Got here around 3:30, promptly sat at a clean table, put our drink and sushi orders in. 10 minutes later a table sat beside us. 10 minutes after that, the table that sat after us got their sushi orders I suspected immediately that it was our sushi order, but I kept waiting patiently. I then overheard that table say something was wrong with their order. About 4:10 our waiter says that the other waiter brought out food to the wrong table. And it would be another 10 minutes before our food would arrive. We finally got our sushi and two of the rolls were good but the other two were "meh"... Food/ service are extremely poor. I walked in to ordered food Togo tonight, udon soup and stir fry noodles. They say it will take 20 minutes, I went to sit in my car, I went back before 20 minute food was ready. I went straight home only 5 minutes away, I poured my soup into my bowl, there was no broth. They mixed the broth with all the ingredients so then the broth got soak in with the noodles. It's quite upsetting when you're excited to finally get home and enjoy your soup and yet there is no soup. The soup I ordered it looks like stir fry noodle as well. I called the store and spoked with Clair ( mgr) and informed her about the situations all she said sorry it's how we do it.. I asked her why wouldn't they separate the broth, so people can enjoy the actual soup instead of looking like stir fry? The food is always good, the service is good, the ambience is fine but they always try to sit my family (of five) at the same three booths in the middle of the restaurant and they backs are always wiggly and squeaky it's very obnoxious. We got seated rather quickly and staff was nice, the only reason I'm even rating 2 stars. Food came out really quick. Which is nice considering we have a toddler however it was not great tasting. Miso soup was a weird warm cold when it came out and the food was overall not seasoned very well. The fried rice looked to be just greasy brown rice with onion. This is the new volcano restaurant I am at. Walking into the restaurant there seems be confusion on where To sit folks. I am by myself so they sat me at the sushi bar. Sitting here for a few mins I was asked what I wanted to drink. I asked if they had a drink menu they said all they have is bud light so I just got a water. Basically the same thing. Not even 40 seconds of ordering a water another waiter asked me what I wanted to drink. Let's continue..... I ordered a house salad because I love ginger dressing. Well by ordering this in the past it always came with a Slice or 2 of cucumber and cherry tomato's. Well this came with very watery iceberg lettuce and a ton of dressing. So there for it was Watered Down. Kinda bummed about that. So I ordered a few sushi rolls pics coming soon. So while I wait I am freezing. Oh look the food. I did t finish the rolls. The experience is great if you've done hibachi before but if you havent or want to impress someone who hasnt, go to another hibachi place. The wait staff and customer service was lacking. Our waitress never came to check on us so our appetizer dishes were piled up and in our way. I had to flag people down for drinks, and even our chef seemed like he didn't want to come to work. Granted it was busy and I'm sure he cooked mulitple meals before us, but I had planned on the experience being great since I had invited someone who's never had hibachi so unfortunately it was quite disappointing for her. Also, this is the only hibachi place I've been to that doesn't have prime rib steak. But all are not the same so I simply choose another dish. my mother and i came here after we got a hair cut while i was visiting them on vacation. elizabeth city is the nearest big city to where they live in edenton. we ordered the shrimp tempura and the vegetable teriyaki kitchen specials, and shared them. i also ordered a patron margarita and later got a grey goose dirty martini. food tasted good, portion size was large. i did end up using the yum yum sauce and the soy for the veggies, bc the teriyaki sauce was a little bland on its own. the shrimp tempura was huge, a little greasy and did have a lot of breading, which we just peeled off but it tasted good anyway. drinks were also good. the margarita wasnt too sweet and the martini was not too dirty, they were just right. we had no problems with the service. our waitress was attentive but not overbearing, and everything came out quickly. we will be back, but maybe we will skip the shrimp tempura and opt for something else next time. read more

My daughter and I enjoyed a very nice sushi dinner in their new location. The new building has better ambiance re are basically two separate sections, one for the Japanese Habachi and one side for normal dinner tables and booths. The waitress was very helpful. We ordered coconut shrimp, California rolls, Philly roll and Green Dragon rolls. All the food was very good. The coconut shrimp was very sweet and crunchy. The green dragon roll impressively came with two decorative skewers on both ends of the roll of breaded shrimp. I recommend you try this place especially if you haven't been there recently. read more

Good lunch option for a quick decent sushi meal in Elizabeth City. The business is located in the Walmart shopping center area. The lunch specials are convenient in price and selected. You get to select two options from the menu. In addition, you get soup and a small salad w/dressing of your choice. I chose the chicken teriyaki, tuna roll and white rice. Other selections cost more and are not part of the lunch special. You can tell they are headed toward the lunch crowd as the meal was ordered, prepared and brought out within 10 minutes. All dishes and left overs were taken away with in seconds of us putting our silverware down. The check was brought out within a minute after our meal was eaten. As hibachi steak houses go, unless something is terribly wrong, they're all about the same. I've been to quite a few around the country. This hibachi is pretty good, especially for the location. Notice that I said "about the same" there can be slight differences in the quality of meat etc, and a lot depends on the actual chef cooking your food. Everything that I ordered on the hibachi here was fine. Tasty, well presented and filling. The 3 star rating is because this place is touted as a hibachi AND sushi bar. The sushi is okay.. I had a California roll and a boston roll and it's pretty hard to screw those up, but I probably won't order sushi here again. If you're in EC and want some hibachi this is a safe bet. read more

Understandably this is rural North Carolina, not Boston or San Francisco but all Japanese restaurants have to uphold a baseline of quality. Volcano is your typical combo teppanyaki/sushi bar. I went to the sushi bar to give my usual evaluation. We ordered gyoza that was fried; kani salad that was stack of shredded crab on a plate; and their sashimi dinner: my acid test of quality. The sashimi quality was poor with sticky pieces, slightly off color, and bland taste. Sashimi is my favorite Japanese dish and usually there are never enough pieces on the plate for me. But at Volcano for the first time in years I left slices on the dish. Overall other than the edamame everything we ordered was a disappointment. Again this is rural North Carolina. For those locals that stay local Volcano's teppanyaki experience would probably be fun. But if you get around like me you are better off with supermarket sushi. Pass. read more

I wish there was a way to put a negative amount of stars. My husband and I have been here a few times and every time the service/ management gets worse and worse. Not to mention the food is never that good. I personally would rather drive the hour to Virginia to get better sushi but this is where our friends wanted to go. This time was the last for all of us though!!! We had a group of 6. All of us love sushi and aren't super picky. After we started to eat my friend noticed a very long hair in her food. It was pretty clear that it wasn't hers so we waved down our server. We tried to be as nice as possible about it but the servers took the hair on a fork and literally held it up to compare it to my friend's hair trying to blame her while yelling to another server in a different language clearly talking about us. We continued to be nice about it and just brush it off. Once we got the bill they made a big deal saying they gave them a "discount" for the inconvenience. It was like $6 or something like that off of a $18 meal. When we told them we are all military (because they usually offer military discounts) they said they couldn't do that and their "discount" for the hair in the food. We asked to speak to a manager and some other girl came over tossed a $10 gift card on the table and rudely said that the owner was only doing this to be nice. I couldn't believe it!! They tried to blame my friend for destroying her own meal that she was looking forward to all day and then was rude about making it right. Any other restaurant would have comped the meal and would have been more apologetic. I understand there are people out there that abuse situations like this but we were not and it was pretty clear that we were trying to be as understanding as possible.
