DO NOT COME HERE FOR SERVICE! I decided to come to the Pasadena site since it was close to where I live. The first time I came for regular maintenance, they said there were 2 other suggested services I should get (about $400 more) and I opted not to get it at the time. The second time I went for regular maintenance...funny, they never mentioned the two previous suggested services again. When I picked up my car after their shoddy so-called 'wash', I noticed that there were scratches on top of my trunk! Not the regular scratches from day to day wear, but visible white/chalky area that would not rub off! I notified the person who gave me my key and then the manager, Norman. Norman then instructed another maintenance guy outside to look at it. I assured them that this was not here before I dropped of my car. Norman then came out and told me they don't use abrasives. He then offered to let me look through their garage to look for abrasives. This is when I just flipped out! He then started pointing out dings on my car. I just lost it! I take pride in the service I usually get from VW, but definitely NOT in this Pasadena site! What kind of customer service is this????!!!! I'm always a bit hesitant when I walk into a dealership, but Pasadena was different. Ben was very knowledgable and let me take my time, making sure I got the package that was best for me. They didn't push me to do any upgrades, just let me decide what I needed, and got me a really good deal on the car (I checked!). This is the last time I bring my car into this place. These people are crooks. I bought my car there two years ago. Yes, this car has been great and I have no complaints about the car or price,but, they tell you something and then they go back on their word about it. They wanted to charge me nearly 60 bucks to install my ipod adopter that broke due to the poor quality, and the unit only cost $50. On top of it, they were already doing something with the radio, but they wanted to charge me an installation anyways. Forget this place. If you have a vollkswagen and need repairs, take it to European Motors in Silverlake. These people are honest, know VW's, and are not going to rip you off!!! read more

Just had one of many excellent services by VW Pasadena Service Department. After calling them while I was driving to schedule a last minute oil change appointment (due to driving out of town early next morning), I was informed by Mario they were all booked for the evening, but suggested they could top it off for me. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted and my car oil was topped off within minutes, while I updated my contact information and scheduled my next service appointment. In addition, and to my surprise, Mario took care of replacing a back light bulb that was out without any charge. I was totally taken back and had to write this review. Thank you Mario and service desk gal for taking care of me this evening. Also, I want to thank Omar (Sales Floor Mgr) and all of his sales guys who took care of me when I first bought my Jetta in 2006 and assisting my former boyfriend with his Tourag purchase in 2014. Had the best experience in the service department, knew my car was having transmission problems and Norman Harrold was the most helpful service advisor I had ever had! He let me know everything that was going wrong with my car and explained how certain things worked and relayed his experience with his transmission. I love bringing my car here for service! I used to go the the Glendale dealership to service my Passat and had the absolute WORST experience and customer service EVERY single time. They even scratched my bumper and denied that it was them when I picked up my car! That is why I switched to the Pasadena one and have experienced nothing but the absolute best! I reside in San Diego and decided to travel to Los Angeles to see other cars in stock, my preference is a Volkswagen. When I arrived to Volkswagon Pasadena, I was helped right away. The salesman introduced me to many options and was extremely patient with my decisions. At the moment I am leasing, but I did decide to go with my first option, a Passat. The salesman and I worked out numbers and made it possible with my budget. After being there for almost 4 hours I am glad to say that the staff is helpful and understanding. Traveling about 3 hours to Pasadena was well worth it! After my lease is up, I'm definitely coming back to Pasadena to finalize my purchase! Thank you to the staff and service department. read more

the service department is dishonest. i think they are good people, but are pressured by management to achieve sales goals at the expense of the customer. over and over the pasadena service department provides a quote, then i go somewhere else and get the same work done for a much less price. also, they will always tell you that your car needs ___________ fixed, too, which is ususally a lie. read more

Taking a car in for service is never an enjoyable experience but the Service Advisors at Volkswagen of Pasadena help make it as enjoyable as possible. Today I dropped off my car for a diagnostic check up. Norman Harrold came out to greet me in the service lane and in a matter of minutes the car was checked in and Harold had called me an Uber to take me home. What great customer service. I had originally written a really great review about this service department, but I had to come back and change it. I went in for a 50,00 mile service on a Jetta. Supposedly, everything had been taken care of. About a week later the Engine light came on. So I took it into the Woodland Hills VW and they said that the problem was that there was no oil in the car. Either the service techs in Pasadena forgot to put the oil back in or they never changed it at all. Regardless, I will not be going back there to get my car serviced. read more

This is my first review ever, and it's mainly because I feel quality work and outstanding customer service should be recognized. I bought my 2015 GTI in San Diego but moved to Glendale and have been bringing it to Pasadena VW for general maintenance and whenever any check engine lights have come on. There are a few VW dealers closer to me but like a doctor, dentist or barber... Once you find a good one, it's hard to leave them even if it's further away. My first time there I was helped by Wendy. She was so helpful and nice. Probably the main reason I came back to them. The next couple of times I brought in my car Claire helped me out. She's the best. She was super helpful, knowledgeable and professional. She sent me constant updates on my vehicle and answered any questions I had. Finally, just today I took my car in for a check engine light. Norman helped me out. Again, like everyone else... Very helpful, professional and great to work with. Having to take your car into the dealer for any kind of service is never fun, but VW Pasadena go above and beyond to make the experience as pleasant as possible. I have been thinking about writing this review for a while now. Everyone I share my experiance with says I should. I had an older jetta that was on its last leg. I needed a new car but didn't know if I could really afford it. My bf finally convinced me to start shopping and recommended I talk to the internet manager because they give better deals. I wanted another vw and called the Pasadena vw dealer and talked to the internet sales man. I explained to him I was on a right budget and didn't need anything fancy. I told him I had great credit and was ready to get a new car if the deal was good. He invited mi to the dealership and told me to ask for jamal as that was the salesman he worked with. I went in and did this. Jamal with a different person so a young sales guy helped me pick out a new car. Every car had a added markup on the window. This really turned me off and i told the sales guy I had no intent on paying a markup on a generic vw. He assured me that I would not have to pay this markup that was about $1500 over the sticker price. I came in and Jamal was ready to give me the price on the car I had chosen. I told him I was looking for a really low payment and I had no intention of paying the markup price on the window. He was very nice and told me don't worry he would give me a really good deal. At this point he really did seen to have my best interest in mind. He came back with a very high payment for the vw I was interested in. I remember being shocked and saying I had seeing lower payments advertised on TV and in the internet. He assures me I ESS getting a really good deal and I was getting a special bonus from vw that was helping lower my payment. On this paper he had with 2 payments it had no price of the vehicle. I asked him what the price was and wanted to make sure it was not that inflated markup price on the sindow. He said he would go find out but assured me I was getting a really good deal and the deals I saw online had hidden charges and higher down payments. When he came back and still could not tell me the price but lowered the payment slightly. He again assured me I was receiving a bonus and getting a really good deal. He is very persuasive and believed what he was talking me. I was tired and pretty worn out and agreed to take the new vw. Fast forward about a month everyone I talk to says my monthly payment is really high. A friend of mine has a friend that works at another vw dealership. I took NY paperwork there to have them look at it and explain everything to me. They looked at the car u had and reviewed the paperwork and I paid over $3000 above the sticker price. The guy helping me even asked his manager if this was legal. They all looked at it and said they are shocked that I paid so much. Even if I paid full price my payment should have been $100 lower. They said realistically if I got a good deal it could have been about $140 lower. I told them that the paper with my payment never had the price and every time o asked I was given the runaround and only back to the payment. They said they always five the price every time and this should have been on my quote. Every time I am in my car and think about this I want to cry. I am a single mother and that $100 -$140 could buy my groceries for the month. Jamal seemed like he really cared about me and now I see how bad he scammed me and I just want to warn everyone else that might go to this dealer. The bonus he kept referring to as if he was doing me a favor is given to everyone that had a vw. I had good credit and no trade in. I am told this should have been a very easy process and they are shocked a dealer can even sell a CSR for this much. I was thinking about calling a manger but then realized that is the person that gave Jamal the price togive me. SHAME ON PASADENA VW SHAME ON JAMAL FOR COMPLETELLY RIPPING ME OFF AND LIE TO MY FACE. SHAME ON THE MANSGEMENT FOR ALLOWINF THIS TO HAPPEN. Honestly who in there right mind would agree to pay more then $3000 above the sticker price. It is so obvious I was scammed and lied to. I have read other reviews and I know the manager is going to write me a comment and say this is not how he does business. I call BS!!! I have a 2007 VW Jetta that bad a battery that had seen it's last day. I live in Reseda, CA and always prefer to make the drive out there because of the awesome customer service. I called at 7am to make a walk-in appt for 8am and I was told sure we can fit you in. I got there at 8am and as soon as I pulled up Tom Andrews was right there greeting me with a smile. My driver side window stopped going up/down and these guys charged me 500 bucks to have that fixed. It's now been just over a year later, and now the same window just stopped working, same problem as before. And they won't repair it for free beacause it's been over a year. Aaargh... In the interim, I also had the same experience with these guys telling me I needed my cv boots fixed which cost another 500 bucks. I'm starting to think this service department is shady... read more

I took my VW in as there was a warning light on they came back with a repair estimate of $2600.00. There were at least two problems with the car. I said no as that was a lot of money. They called back a little later and said because I was such a good customer they would reduce the repair price by a significant amount. It was still more than I wanted to pay without getting a second opinion. I had read online that one should turn off the warning light (which I was able to do myself) and then start the car up again. If the warning light came on again, it needed fixing. If it didn't, it was fine. Well, the warning light didn't come back on, and the car has been running just fine. Saved myself a lot of money. They are very nice people in the service department. But, it seems somewhere along the line, someone decided to charge me for something that didn't need fixing. They all told me that this was "MY PROBLEM" and that i would have to go fix it myself. Please Please Please shop for a VW somewhere else, and if possible I would suggest a different car! I had the WORST experience with my "certified" used 2003 Jetta, originally purchased in 2005. Being a first time buyer i of course went against my gut feeling of "the unimpressive USED CAR STAFF." They lack customer service skills. I actually had to come back in a few days to even test drive the car b/c they realized they lost the key to the car and needed to make a new one? But I went against my initial gut feeling of maybe looking into different cars b/c "I want this cute car SO BAD!" Worst decision ever! I was ripped off on the price and warranty, my fault, lack of experience, fine... BUT my car shut down completely TWICE and once on Wilshire due to "battery, engine, electrical" problems; needed to completely replace my transmission: AND learned from a repair shop that it was previously in a major accident with noticeable cosmetic repairs all over the car. I also had a string of other smaller problems early on and the rude sales staff absolved themselves from any of it, that it wasn't their fault and I started going to Downtown LA VW instead. They were more friendly, however the vehicle should never had been sold in the first place, let alone labeled as certified. PLEASE do not give this place your business! read more

well... my story begins with 4 visits to different mechanics after purchasing a 2003 vw jetta 1.8 turbo....after driving a 1986 toyota land cruiser for 15 years and having a positive relathionship with a trusted mechanic i was looking at what now seemed a bently with power windows a great stereo system and gosh even turbo and a a constant rattle .... i took the new jetta to 4 different mechanics...before stopping at independent vw in pasadena- and yes that included the vw dealeship in santa monica...which with respect...dont go there. I heard 4 different daignostics any where from "you need a new clutch" to "you need a new transmittion" to "wait until the problem gets worse" to "leave it here for 3 days, we still don't know whats wrong" all estimates came in at well over four figures. Eventually the unavoidable happened... a plop, metal, a sound and a friendly tow truck driver and a recomendation from AAA to pay a visit to Independent VW. i had given up, now without a car a i thought that after not trusting any of the privious daignostics - which ended up all being ...well..let say uninformed to be politically correct- at the mercy of ....finallly.....HONESTY.... Norm over at INDEP VW took my call, assured me the car would be looked at and a proper call would be given back to me...sure i thought...then he called on time as he promised...shock... -never before- delivery ofthe vehicle was on time, the cost of repair ended up being less then estimated...every step was followed with diligence, friendliness, him and his team had a diagnossis..it was just a mount... i have never expiriences such great service, honesty, follow through, from every single member of the team of the VW indepenent team, in any other mechanic expirience period. Owning a newer car - after driving a land cruiser for 15 years- can be daunting. Norm, Stephanie the kind mechanic that worked on my car to the fine fellows who showed up to pick me from work and take me to my car were tremendous!!!!!!! i found a trusted place, where i can take my car to and trust that from the person that greets me to the fine talent that work on the car have trully the best intrrest in mnd. if you own a VW go here. Do no go to santa monica, i dont care were you live, come here. Personally, i have made new friends and finally, finally, finally found trusted folk to work on my car which sees endless road trips, mountains, lakes, bays and deserts. Thank you to the Indep. Yeah, as you can tell this dealership sucks. I can only comment on their service department though not their sales. I brought my Passat in a few years ago because a repair light kept going off in my car. They said they would check it out and give me a call. When they called and gave me the price, I said that I would like to to compare prices with some other places first. The VW employee responded with "but we already started working on the car!" What the heck!? That really made me dislike them. Also, I brought in the Passat there to get a recalled part taken care of and one of the first things the lady employee did when she came to greet me was say "There's a dent on your car right here! I'm telling you so you don't think we did it!" Now I was well aware of that dent, but her reaction to it was pretty shady. An independant car shop that my family trusts highly recommends NOT going to VW of Pasadena. There was an emissions problem with the Passat that they told me to get taken care of at a dealership because it was supposed to be a complimentary service by VW. They said to go to any dealership but Pasadena. I wish they had told me that before my first visit there! I don't have a VW car anymore but I would not recommend this place to any VW drivers unless maybe for a complimentary service. I decided it would be fair to give them 2 stars instead of 1 because they did fix the problems I brought the car in for and the shady female employee I mentioned above did tell me to use my AAA card to get a discount. read more

I'd have to say the sales dept here is good and bad. They have probably the lowest prices for new vw cars compared to other dealers. However, they lie about the availablity of their cars/colors/models. So I went to cars.com a broker who found me the car/color/model I wanted and directed me back to volkswagen pasadena. When I showed up, guess what? They brough up the car, but it wasn't the wolfsburg edition, which is the same car, but an upgraded version. So they brought the wolfsburg with a different price tag. It was clearly a bait and switch from both the dealer and broker. However, I negotiatied hard and they were willing to lower the price tag. So I was happy on that end. This is pretty much what goes on at every dealership, so overall the experience wasn't bad. As for services, it is really expensive to get it done there. And based on the reviews so far, the people got it right with the people there. Mario is definitely the most cocky person of the group. I had an issue with the steering wheel that was not aligned because I hit a concrete column. He quoted me $1800+ to fix everything including the suspension. I know they all quote the worst case scenario, but it really sounded like he was going to make them do all that work. I called up my insurance and they sent and assesor out and he told them to fix the control arm first and do an alignment test. In the end, the alignment test worked and fixed the car for only $500. So I only had to pay a $200 deductible. So do yourselves a favor if you have damage done to your car make a claim and have your insurance save you from high costs, instead of trying to pay it by yourself to prevent premium increases. The insurance companies also work with independent shops, so you can ask them to refer you to cheaper places to get your car fixed. Don't need to go to the dealer for everything. read more

They are always incredibly helpful and friendly here when I bring my car in for service. Both Wendy D and Claire have gone above and beyond for me on numerous occasions. I usually have my hands full with a baby or a toddler, and they have helped me entertain him as I move the car seat to a loaner or sign paperwork, etc. The wait times are never too bad, even on weekends, and the indoor and outdoor waiting areas are nice. It also helps that there's a Starbucks in walking distance. Recently, my fuel door was stuck (I found this out the hard way at the gas station on empty), and I rolled into VW on fumes, without an appointment, and they gave me gas, fixed the fuel door, replaced the battery in my car key, and updated some mechanism on my car that I didn't even know had been recalled, and I wasn't even charged although my warranty had just run out. They are so accommodating even as my son is running all over the showroom trying to climb in the cars or spilling Sun Chips in the waiting room. And they usually remember us and do not treat us like strangers, which goes a long way. read more

Buyers beware! Do not purchase your extended warranty here! I purchased my warranty when I purchased my car. I decided to sell it back to the dealership, and lease a new model. Before I signed the papers, I asked how the extended warranty refund would work, and they said it would be pro-rated and I should get most of it back considering the fact my car had just fallen out of the factory warranty. I just got my "check" it was for 50% less than what I paid for it! I understand, I wasn't going to get the full amount back, but I was expecting only a few hundred to be taken out of the almost $2300 I paid, they went on with some bs, but it's not worth purchasing... you are throwing away your money! I was never told that they charge $25 to cancel, plus 50.22% was to be taken out to cancel as well... I hate this VW dealership! I will never go there ever again! read more

Got a 2014 TDI Jetta Sportwagen a few weeks ago from Eric. We went in maybe half an hour before closing that day so for that I apologize but it was a spur of the moment decision to go and I knew that I wanted this car (I had been researching it very thoroughly for about a year). Test drive was smooth, I didn't need much info on the features since I had researched everything. Signed all the paperwork and the car was now mine, except the car was super dirty so instead of having them wash it that night (I felt it was too late to make them wash it) I said I would come the next day to pick it up. Because I was in a rush to take it home, I didn't notice that there were a handful of scratches on the hood and left fender... Probably from transport of the car to the dealer? Who knows. I called Eric and told him and he set an appointment to get that taken care of! I took it and the VW peeps tried to take out the scratches but had to end up taking it to a body shop, and when I got the car back, the body shop guy told me I needed to bring the car back to VW a month or so later to have it waxed because he had to take off a significant layer of clear coat. The car looked great and I just got the waxing taken care of yesterday. Eric has been really great about solving this for me and he's very polite. I look forward to getting another car here in the future. read more
