This is the second time I've had my Volvo S60 serviced here and I will continue to return. While they were booked out a couple weeks in advance the quality of service was well worth the wait. The 30k mileage service, oil change, and vehicle inspection were performed quickly while I waited in the spotless lounge. They had bagels and coffee in the lounge which was much appreciated. After the service was complete Jose Espejo, the service advisor, took the time to explain to me work that had been performed and items which may need attention in the future. I would definitely recommend bringing your vehicle here as you will receive professional service. Next time I will call about three weeks in advance, as they are booked out on the weekends. I would be VERY careful approaching or working with this car dealer. After they reviewed photos of my used car for sale I was offered a good price. I drove my car to their office (1 hr. drive) and quickly realized that the offer was simply to get me there. They claimed that the few VERY minor scratches I had on the car reduced the value of the car by $1500. No dents, just very minor scratches. I had priced the cost to fix the scratches - less than $300. The staff member I had been working with apologized to me, saying it was up to the manager. BEWARE of this company - that kind of business practice would generalize to car sales and repairs in that car dealership. Would never recommend Volvo Cars Silver Spring to anyone. read more

I purchased a car from this dealership 11 days ago and it is already having a TON of issues. They REFUSE to return my calls or text messages but were very quick to send me to the bank so I could get a check & pay the car off when I purchased it...typical. If it's not a brand new car the warranty is only 30 days and obviously they don't even honor that. I work 13 hour days Monday through Saturday and already had to miss time last week to drop the car off and get a rental. Wouldn't ya know, days go by and no one called me about my car after I dropped it off. I had to call them and ask if it was finished. Finally, once it was finished I had to miss more work to go get it. Not to mention when I got the car back the gas tank was almost on E (had more than a half tank when I dropped it off) and they only detailed half of it (yes, literally half of my windshield was foggy and half was clean). I believe because I'm a very young female and I did all of this on my own, they're taking advantage of me. Do not purchase from this dealership. Save yourself some money & major headaches. My Volvo was acting up on a drive to NJ from VA and I had to get it towed to the nearest dealership. I was a little wary having someone I didn't know service my car, but the people at Herb Gordon Volvo quickly put me at ease.The mechanic quickly determined what was wrong (multiple lugnuts were missing, so scary!) and they were able to fix it that day. I would like to clarify that when the door was broken I alerted the staff present (who said "your car is old, these things break". I did write an email to Joe Devlin and sent a signed letter with the invoice from the autobody shop that did the repair. To the email and the letter I received no response. I had a good sales experience, they're fine for that. My new car had a defect which they agreed to fix, and after two tries the problem is far worse, with a rude and dismissive sales manager to top it off. Only buy a pristine car from Herb Gordon, and for the love of all that is holy, good, or even mediocre: stay away from their service department. read more

My husband started bringing my 2011 XC60 here a while ago, and I really didn't understand why he would go so far for service, when we have 3 other Volvo dealers within 10 miles of our house. However, when he wasn't able to make it and I had to take my car in myself, I understood. The dealership is run by the nicest, most genuinely courteous group of people I have ever encountered. The sales staff listens to what we are looking for and has always managed to find the perfect car; whether it was our family car or my daughter's first car....they took excellent care of us. Excellent service buying a used car from Herb Gordon Volvo! Worked with Ed Sarecky and Neal Hyman who were both outstanding helping us find a deal in our price range. Took the time to find the right car and made the process smooth and easy. There was an issue with a light bulb on the car and so they replaced the entire headlamp assembly to make sure they took care of the problem and there was no extra charge for this. In 2017, my 2012 Volvo S60 that I purchased from this dealership began consuming oil--not leaking it--consuming it. I did not know at the time that this could be an issue with some Volvo's. I worked with service adviser Dana Axtel and service manager Joe Devlin who both made sure that the recommended repair for this issue was covered under warranty. This entailed a lot of phone calls to corporate Volvo, records submissions, and verification that Dana handled. He also made sure that the accompanying issue (oil had gone in to some part of the engine it wasn't supposed to go into and was vaporizing and making an alien sound). My car received all the repairs it needed and the problem seemed solved. Dana and Joe did everything one would expect to keep me happy in spite of the fact that this issue had nothing to do with them or how they serviced the car but with a particular flaw in this engine. Unfortunately, the repair did not work (car continued to consume oil - about 1 quart every thousand miles). Dana informed me that the repair they did works about 80% of the time but the remaining 20% of the time the engine will need to be replaced, and this is what happened to me. Sadly, Dana was no longer working there when I brought the car back for this, but Joe Devlin also assured me that my engine would be replaced under warranty. (I had a little disagreement with service adviser Jose Espejo - he told me the engine was not covered under warranty but that Volvo Cars of Silver Spring would cover it out of courtesy. I didn't want to get into an argument when I already had the outcome I needed, but the fact is that I purchased an additional warranty to 90,000 miles when I bought the car and my car had less than 50,000 miles on it when this problem started, so I was covered.). Jose also did not keep me informed by returning my phone calls like Dana used to but I was able to catch him on the phone sometimes to find out what was happening in the approval process. Joe Devlin was great at returning phone calls and explained where they were in the process of getting approval from corporate Volvo to replace the engine and when the engine would arrive to the dealership. About the time he said it should come, Joe called me to say the engine was there and I dropped off my car the same day. Within 2 days, the mechanic had the new engine in and my car was ready! That was in early August 2018. I wanted to drive the car awhile before giving a review just to make sure everything was okay. In late August, I drove the car to New Hampshire with 3 other people and our gear and the car ran GREAT. I am very happy with the service and responsibility that Volvo Cars took to ensure my car was fixed. Yes, it was inconvenient to have had the problem in the first place, but I do love my Volvo and I am grateful to the service department for making everything right. read more

I got my XC60 serviced here for brakes and tires, and they really went above and beyond. Paris greeted me and was very courteous, and he got me in and out quickly with a loaner (from Enterprise). Although I live in N. VA which is 35 miles away, I decided to try this location because of so many shady experiences and the good reviews on yelp. Everything about this location was fine from the start. They were quick to answer the phone, Jose (who has many years of experience with Volvos) was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He answered all my questions about price and service without ever having to transfer me or look it up. Definitely knows his stuff. For me, Im always scared to go to the dealer because you think its going to be through the roof $$, especially with a nicer car, but they were very fair, reasonable, and really the same price as the Volvo specialist shop in Virginia. So may as well go to the dealer. Car was fixed, cleaned inside and out (nice!) and they checked everything out without a bunch of extra charges. I would def travel to Silver Spring to go to this location again. read more

I went in to buy an XC40 but was persuaded to lease instead. The finance manager was not friendly and did not explain things I had questions about regarding how the lease was calculated. She and the manager told me that all XC40 leases are the same. I looked into it a bit and found out the total price of the lease I was quoted, including payments and down payment, was much higher than the Volvo website total lease price, so I complained. Another manager I spoke with said I had to put down more money to get that deal. For some reason, putting down extra money dropped the rent charge quite a bit, lowering our overall cost by lease end by over $2,000. It seems like something strange was going on. The rent charge we are paying still seems really high so I'm not convinced that they figured it correctly and am also not convinced it was better to lease rather than buy in this case. I guess time will tell. The first finance manager had also slipped in a paper to sign saying they did not owe me anything for my trade! This made me lose trust in the dealership even more. I did like the second finance manager we worked with much better and he gave me proof that they owed us a check for the balance of our trade when I asked for it. We have always had good experiences buying cars in the past with other dealers who seemed to be able to balance our best interests with their need to sell us a car. Those dealers understand that reviews and repeat business are just as important as quick profit. I'm giving them 3 stars because they did at least lower the rent charge by 2K when I complained and gave me a fair price for my trade. Next time I will get prices from other dealers on leases for the same car and do a lot of homework first to make sure I can look out for my own best interests down to the very last detail. I would also take a couple of hours to read every last detail of the huge stack of paperwork they make you sign to make sure nothing is being slipped in that I would not want to sign. This goes for any dealer from now on. read more

Don't get your vehicle serviced here. They overcharge for work that is not guaranteed. After you question why they charged for repairs not completed, they tell you that it will take another $2K for them to fix the issue. If they knew it wouldn't be fixed from the beginning, why charge the customer hundreds??? It's unethical and simply WRONG. Do your job, and do it right. read more

I have never bought a car from Herb Gordon Volvo. I am a Volvo 240 nut, and I started to bring my cars for service here over a decade ago. The Volvo 240 is a pretty simple car mechanically, and I am able to do most of the service I need myself. I just don't have the time. You wouldn't believe how many gas station and random service shops can get it wrong. After years of dealing with independent mechanics I got tired of the BS. The prices at the Service Center at Herb Gordon Volvo arent much more than other shops, but I get the assurance of genuine OEM parts unless they are unavailable. I have always been notified if they had to use aftermarket parts. I have had the same service advisor for over 10 years, Dana Axtell, which tells me that they know how to retain valuable and experienced staff. They have earned my trust and loyalty when it comes to service, and I don't even think to go anywhere else. I do not hesitate to recommend them to everyone I know. read more

My only complain is that the vehicle we purchased needed a wash and at least vacuumed the inside, but our salesman was Peter, he was very professional and assisted my husband and me right away not to mention how knowledgable he is about cars. He was not to pushy or seemed desperate to make a sale. I would like to mention he was helping out another family as well while helping us out and he managed to give good cust. service to both clients. We called ahead to let them know we were on our way and Peter already had the vehicle outside for us. We test drove it and ended up purchasing the car. Our trade in was pretty fair. My husband and I dont have the kind of time to go to different dealerships so we knew what we wanted. I think our best experience was with Bryan over at Subaru. Dishonest. They charged us $300 for diagnostic and told us we had a broken air compressor which would cost over $1200 to replace. We took it to another mechanic who fixed it with $75 worth of Freeon. HG Volvo is not to be trusted. I brought Volvo from them 4 years ago and always walked away feeling a little jipped (after some problems with purchase and again after some service appointments), but nothing was ever really significant or too definite. This place's service is absolutely terrible. I called just to find out how much a service for a product would cost and got transferred across 3 different departments and disconnected twice. Really? So to get a full cost, i need to re-explain what I need to parts, then to service then back to parts because they cant communicate with each other? HG Volvo, Silver Spring gets an A+ for the ladies scheduling the appointments and initial phone contact with service rep. But the actual appointment and wait time drops customer service to a C for poor time management. Lack of follow thru and dishonesty forces me to down grade significantly to an F. I bought an XC-60 at the end of March at this dealership. Peter was my salesperson and he was very helpful, knowledgeable and experienced. He said I'd get the tags and registration within 30 days. Two days ago, I was stopped by the police and almost got a ticket for not having a registration. I called and left a message for Peter, asking him to call me about the status of my tags and registration. However, 24 hours later, I still hadn't received a response from Peter. When I called again, Bill Curry was able to provide me with an update and the information I needed. That's why this rating is 3 stars and not two. My advice: Get a salesperson who is responsive after the sale--like Bill Curry. read more

There was no pressure or annoying sales people. The entire process was very easy and stress free. I worked with Iris Harley in sales and Patricia Pruitt with financing. The same day I purchased the truck I had a family emergency, which made it impossible for me to come back and pick up the truck. Iris and Patricia went out of their way to help get the truck to me. The salesman was disinterested, even refusing to go on a test drive with me after I told him I had never been in the vehicle. I drove the vehicle and loved it, then I went to Herb Gordon for the deal. Laurie MIller has a warm and welcoming personality, I felt at ease and not in the typically adversarial situation that can happen when buying a new car. Working closely with the sales manager, Ed Sarecky, Laurie put together a deal that was far better than I had hoped for. Ed was fully accessible to me, via text, email and his cell phone. There wasn't any back and forth to the manager, I was right there in the mix. Was looking for a used car online and stumbled upon Herb Gordon Volvo that had the car I wanted at a price that was significantly lower than other sellers. I called and was greeted by George Awad who asked me to stop by the same day to check the car out. I got there when everybody was busy with customers but I was able to test drive the car right away. I sat down with George and started discussing price and financing. Not once did I feel pressured or uncomfortable during our talk. Also not having any type of credit to go on, he promised me they would find the right deal and price that I could afford. A day later I met with the finance manager who went over with me the financial plan that he came up with. I was more than pleased with what they could find and signed the papers to be the owner of the car that day. The entire process was easy, painless, and enjoyable (something that you don't normally find at dealerships). UPDATE (October 2009): The general manager from here contacted me and after a few days of discussion he agreed to return all the money that I paid them. Both he and the service manager apologized for what happened to my car. ORIGINAL REVIEW (September 2009): Disgraceful thieves... I took my car there to fix a fuel leak and after $1100 it came back to me and leaked even more fuel. I had to drive it back down there for a second visit with all the windows rolled down because of the smell. I got it back the third time and the car was cutting out from a lack of fuel. First I was told they put in the wrong fuel pump and now I'm being told they didn't. The service manager has told me that another part went wrong from the fuel leak and that they want about $700 to fix it. He said that they did not touch this new part so they couldn't have broken it. I looked the part up and it plugs directly into the fuel pump that they replaced. Additionally, the car, even with the two fuel leaks, didn't cut out and start stalling until after I took it for that second visit. I've had very bad luck with Volvo dealers in general, but this is an all time low. I'll never go back to this dealer again and I will NEVER buy another Volvo after this. read more

This review is late because I have a small child who keeps me so busy. While I was pregnant I took my car in for an oil change/maintenance. I was waiting to pick up my car and glanced over at the lot where it was parked and I could not believe what was happening. The man who went to get my car was too lazy to move the car in front of it, so he took my s40 over the curb next to my car WTF. I complained and they did an alignment to make sure the car was OK, the manager said they would clean the inside and outside also, but only the outside was washed. TERRIBLE SERVICE and they didn't seem too shocked. I do have to say that Jose is great, and besides that one incident I haven't had problems since. It is the closest dealership to where I live so that I why I take my car here. My husband is in the market for a new car and is very interested in the Volvo SUV but I don't think he will be purchasing it here because of what happened with my car and also we had a bad experience here years ago when I was first in the market to purchase a new vehicle. read more
