I was so excited that we have a brewing place down the street from our place. I took my kiddo here for a quick bite and he loved the pizza! Beer is delicious, food is good and our waitress was amazing. When our waitress clocked off for the day, no one came back to the table. My husband showed up after work, and still no one came to the table. We waited for about 10 minutes and asked someone for some menus so he could get some food- mind you, I had been there already for about 40 min so it was time for a new beer. There was 3 waiters In our area, and no one offered us drinks. A fresh table was seated next to us, they received beverages right off the bat. At this point it had been 30 minutes and no one still had not come to the table. I got up to retrieve a box for my food and asked someone at the counter for one. As I asked him for a box, he directly asked the person next to him to grab it instead. I'm a little disappointed that the waitress I had left, she was truly the best. read more

I drove down from Battle Ground WA to meet one of my sisters for dinner, excited to enjoy a meal together at beautiful Glendoveer, just blocks from where we lived as kids. So sorry to have to post a negative review but we had an incredibly AWFUL experience from the minute we sat down, starting with a snarky "server" who treated us disrespectfully when we politely said we'd rather not use the QR app...she snapped "Then go order at the bar". We then (again politely) asked if we could have a menu....she brings ONE soiled, grease-spotted, wrinkled one and tossed it on the table! My sis and I debated for a few minutes about getting up to leave. Instead,we took a deep breath, selected our food, went to the bar to order and were a bit surprised to be asked for payment up front...doesn't one generally pay/tip AFTER food is served?? (We weren't in the drive-thru at McDonald's!!!) We offered our credit cards to pay as requested. While waiting for our food to be delivered, we noticed the crowd had thinned out a bit and there was a nice booth open with a good view of the patio, so we picked up our water glasses & silverware and moved across the room from the small uncomfortable table where we originally sat. After about 15 to 20 minutes, I noticed a man (bartender??) walk over to that small empty table, plopped down two plates of food and walked away. Bear in mind.....empty table! Nothing to indicate anyone was sitting there....no purses, no jacket on the back of the chair, no glasses or silverware. You know.....empty!!! We stared across the room for a minute or two and decided that it certainly LOOKED like the food we'd ordered so my sis got up, walked over and picked up the two plates to bring them to our booth. For the remainder of our time in the restaurant, our server never once checked on us. The only time she approached our booth was to remove our half-empty dishes and walk away without a word. Thankful that I got to spend time with my sis, but I can guarantee we will never meet up at this establishment again....next time, we'll meet up at the McDonalds up the street!! read more

Excellent addition to an area that is starving for food and beer options. VEB is definitely on my rotation of weekly lunch or dinner options. The menu has a pretty good range of options to include my personal favorite the Cubano sandwich (perhaps my fav in the city and I have had quite a few). The only opportunity that I could mention which impacted my star rating is my favorite beer is no longer available Sector 7. A really really tasty Hazy IPA that ranks up there with the likes of Modern Times, Revison and Great Notion. BRING BACK THE HAZY! read more

Went for a girls night out with my friend. We often dine out together buy a bottle of wine and some appetizers etc. and just enjoy a few hours out without kids. First time trying this place and I was excited! The bartender was spot on I had my drink within seconds of sitting down. Onion rings were to die for and HUGE. Our server however was not good! We literally had to ask for everything we wanted. Asked for water two times, asked for a wine list, asked for a check.....but what was worse was her attitude about everything. It seems like she didn't even like our table and would literally walk by not even look at us and go to the next table. We eventually asked another server for coffee to go with our dessert. My friend and I are super chill. We just want to chat and hang out and be checked on now and then. This was not our experience. My last straw was when she brought our check. She slid it across the table and said "whenever you're ready" with a snotty voice and didn't even look at us when she said it. At that point I was done. My friend had a manager come over explain that we loved the food the bartender was amazing and that we would come back but the server was not good. She gave us a card for a free appetizer. I told her that I did not want anything free. That was not why I was complaining. But she gave us one anyway. I would go back and give this place another try but if I got that server I would request a new one. My friend and I are good tippers and super laid back. Great beers with tons of indoor seating and they also have some outdoor tables as well. Minors are welcome in their dining area and the outdoor seats which is nice if you are visiting with friends under 18. Although we came for the beer, their steak fries with truffle aioli was definitely my favorite. $16 bucks for fries and steak is a little pricey but it was cooked very well. The steak pieces were all medium, nothing too dry and the fries were nice and crisp. The truffle aioli was just the bonus on top of everything and I am just a huge sucker for truffle in general. So if you decide to try Von Ebert, the beers are okay but the steak fries were bomb! read more

My husband and I love coming here anytime we are able to have a date night. It's our go to however we haven't been since the whole menu change. Either way I think we will still be happy. We've gotten seated right away each time we've come (which is a lot) never had to wait and the same goes about our food and beer. Axe to grind is our favorite beer and the steak bites are delicious! Employees are always smiling and on top of everything. So happy we found a place we love to come and enjoy ourselves and not have to drive 30 mins too Update: they still have steak bites which is awesome and added truffle fries which is cool however when we came here for a dinner date there wasn't nothing we had interest in on the new menu... so this is now just a place for us to come grab a beer. So this is almost exclusively a do-it-yourself-er experience now. You have to order through a link on your phone which is very impersonal and clunky and then you also have to build your own cocktails on the link by choosing the alcohol and then trying to find a drink you want and it is pretty slim pickings. Our food was brought out with no silverware and we had to ask after the beer my partner ordered which seemed like a no brainer, fill the glass from the tap kind of situation. Our desert was brought out with our dinner and then was reheated probably in the microwave before it was served again to us later as it was both rubbery in parts and hard, chewy and carmelized in others. We found the experience at this restaurant to be very frustrating and it was far from the nice night out we had hoped. We miss the way the restaurant used to be. Maybe have folks view the menu on their phone but take an order table side again. It goes a long way! I'm sorry to say I don't think we'll be back. read more

One of my first dates with my boyfriend was at this place. I remember really liking it because of the food and it's a nice sit down restaurant. The thing that sold me was the golf course out back though. After dinner we walked along the edge of it and it is so pretty and made that date memorable. We won a year's supply of wings off their Facebook so now this place is providing us with a cheaper date than usual once a month. It's so generous for them to give away so many supplies of wings (once a week). We love coming here. My only gripe is that I have a gluten sensitivity and there isn't much on tap that I can drink, if at all. Luckily there is a full bar though! I know, I know, it's a brewery so I can't complain, hence the 5 stars. :) read more

Literally the worst service. If you don't create an online account and order for yourself, you have to flag someone down. We had 4 different employees come to our table at different times but no follow up. Have to get your own water. They took our order but only three meals ever arrived. Upon flagging someone down a 5th person came out and rudely said the 4th meal was never ordered and did we still want it....as if it were our fault? A waitperson took the order in the first place, it was not our error. During the entire meal no one ever asked if we wanted to order another drink, as we gladly would have. Walk up ordering would have been much more predictable and efficient. It was not busy and there were empty tables. Won't be back. read more

I've been here a few times and thought it was good. Better beer than food, to be honest. That changed this week. I brought my 87 yr old former coworker out to lunch and she wanted to sit outside so I suggested the patio at Von Ebert. We walked in and the manager sat us and was so sweet and patient as it took is a while to get to our seats. My senior side kick told him stories of working at a brewery 45yrs ago and he was engaging with her. And...they changed the menu. We both got the Ensalda de Casa with steak bites. Holy hell. It stopped us both mid sentence when we took our first bites. Seriously, the best salad I have ever had. Hands down. The guy who sat us also picked a beer for my senior lady and also grabbed me a couple of glasses from the Farmhouse beer fest. I mentioned that my bf and I had left ours there. Previously I would have given this establishment 5 stars however they recently made some poor choices to remove several items from the menu. It was these items that kept my family and friends coming back. And, not only did they change the menu but they also raised the prices on some happy hour items. To the manager; bring back the deep fried pickles, the Cajun tots/fries and the salads you previously had and my family and I will return. Wow! After visiting VEB's first location, I didn't know what to expect with their Eastside location. This place is seriously awesome! The patios are so comfortable that I felt literally "at home". Same menu as the Pearl location but with a few added grab-and-go golf course items. My server, Troy, was absolutely fantastic and treated me and our party of 4 like we were long time friends. He was very helpful finding beers that my group would like- we ended up ordering a tasting tray of a few IPA's, their "Fest beer" and a Pilsner. Beers were delicious, bright and true to style- the Sector 7 and Pilsner are two of the best beers I've ever had. I ordered the European charcuterie board for an appetizer which was so colorful and fresh and I loved every meat and cheese on there! For dinner, I ordered the Margherita pizza and it was fabulous as well. No complaints AT ALL! I'm so happy to have another location available of this place! Great job, VEB! read more

Oh where to start... this location is clutch since there is nothing decent that's remotely close. With that being said, it gets 2 "free" stars. The problem is that it's certainly lacking in food quality and service though. I've been here twice and both times food was not good. This place is great for date night or drinks with friends. They have a wide selection of beers, I was a big fan of the pineapple isle, and a good menu with vegetarian and gluten free options. I had the chicken wings and tachos, which I would suggest sharing as potions are large. My friend had the Mac 'n cheese and loved it. I would definitely order again. Not a good start. Recently opened in an area "hungry" for Portland's best things: great food and craft brews. Sadly, missing the mark in the first few days and my first two visits I've left I unsatisfied. Here's why: 1. Brisket was overly dry and tasteless but was barely made edible by the au jus, 2. Guest tap tasted skunky (not fresh), 3. It wasn't even half way through happy hour and the kitchen was already out of half the happy hour menu, mid week! 4. The spinach/artichoke dip wasn't really a dip, something more like artichoke petals doused with a little cream and wilted spinach, 5. Pita served with alleged artichoke dip was burned in spots, 6. The place was awash with frantic help but we couldn't actually order or get attention from our "server" (literally Von Ebert shirts were running every which way but we were told multiple times, "I'm not your server but I'll try to find him,") 7. The pretzel was good but the mystery cheese dip was scary, or was it mustard, no, I think it's cheese... hmmm 8. So we tried a pizza. The sausage didn't seem cooked, sigh. 9. Only good beer I've had there so far was Chapter 3, but of course, it wasn't available on second visit. And 10! TEN concerns in one review! 10. Seas were covered with crumbs when we finally got a table. Bleh. Points for steak bites tho, with a nod to Ringside Grill to which I'll add, thanks Ringside for leaving this bit of sanity for us. Good luck. I really hope you pull it together. Our area really wants an awesome local watering hole. But today I was kind of embarrassed I brought my friends to meet you. The burger was really bland and dry. if you want high sodium count in your blood, get the bacon fries; The chicken was drier than and 80 year old liberal. Pressed for time, we left and the cocky waiter walked by and commented "see ya". What happened to customer service?
