**Reached another milestone! My 100th post! :) I have been craving Korean fried chicken for quite a while and am so happy that I got to satisfy that craving with Vons Chicken! Placed the order through DoorDash and the process couldn't be easier. Ordered the 1/2 Crispy Fried Chicken, 1/2 Crispy Yangnyeom, and 1/2 Crispy Padak Chicken which came with pink pickled radish side. The Yangnyeom is coated with a spicy sweet sauce but I definitely prefer the crispy fried chicken over the more sauce-y fried chicken. My favorite would have to be the Crispy Padak Chicken -- the sweet and mustardy green onion sauce topped with shredded green onions were extremely tasty. We also got a side of sweet potato fries and rice cakes which were both pretty good. I highly recommend Vons and would definitely order from here again! read more

Despite being a chain, this Vons Chicken is definitely a standout when it comes to consistency and crispiness. My go-to here is the Yangnyeom Chicken but you can't go wrong with the simpler Crispy Fried Chicken so you can appreciate the myriad of flavors integrated into the batter. Every piece is always juicy and you have to make sure not to burn yourself on the hot juices that come gushing out as soon as you break past that crispy exterior! As a Korean fried chicken joint, the wings can get pretty spicy too, so definitely be cautious of that when picking spice levels. I went to Vons for a quick to go order of kimchi fried rice. In my experience I have found it difficult to make a really bad fried rice dish, yet Vons on this occasion managed it. The rice was over cooked and soggy as mush, not the fried rice experience I was expecting from Vons. They may know chicken but they don't know fried rice. The portion size was also a lot smaller than I was expecting for the money. I will not be coming back! They have a robot so I have to give them a point for that. I don't write a lot of reviews, but there was no way I could not write about tonight's experience. The chicken was seriously on another level. I thought this was a chain? I've been to others, and they've all been good, sure, but this one -- this one seriously stood out. And I might be wrong, but it looks like a family operation, and you can clearly see in their care for the food and service -- they really do care. I've zero hesitation recommending this place to anybody. Does not disappoint. Came into an Empty restaurant. Placed my order before another family that walked in behind me placed theirs. I got a cup of water and a plate. That was all i got for 25 minutes since walking in. The staff were all eating their food. The family behind me got their complete order while i recieved nothing. Just as a bare minimum of staff training you might want to check if customers need water. After 25 minutes watching everyone else eat i just left. Halfway walking to my car the staff member who was eating shouted that my order was ready. Now over 30 minutes sonce I sat down. Decent enough chicken, not at all like the Korean fried chicken found in more ethnic places. The "crunch" and "crispy" are both dry and crunchy/crispy: not a lot of difference between them except that you can get the crispy spicy. The Padak and Yangnyum turn out to be the "crispy" with sauces poured over them, something that doesn't work very well on an already heavily-coated chicken. (KFC does this a lot.) I'm sticking to the plain "crispy" from here on. You can get it in wingettes, which I really like. Very clean facility, friendly staff. Takes about 15 minutes after ordering. If you sit at the front, a wheeled robot waiter will bring your order to you. read more

Spicy bbq:5/5 probably the best Korean fried chicken I have ever had , Savory and a little bit of spicy. Hubby picked up large F2: crispy soy fried chicken large, with coleslaw. Coleslaw was only green cabbage with a couple of match stick carrots w/a dollop of coleslaw "dressing" - mayonnaise like..which needs acidity-needs a little bit of lemon or light vinegar. The first time I had their coleslaw was when we ate in the restaurant. The coleslaw was simply refreshing. I was a fan. But now, it seem it's just made me feel not so good: heavy and dull. I should have asked for the pickled radish instead. As for the soy garlic chicken, it's very lightly glazed. Today it tasted just over cooked dried fried chicken. I've had a few good experiences with Vons; but my last time is inspiring me to speak up. I adore Korean Fried Chicken-- but this chicken is usually just okay. The sauces are mediocre, and it's always a hit or miss on whether the chicken is warm or not. This last time, their grilled chicken, which I usually adore, was dry and cold. Horrible service! Went in around 11:30am to have a sit down lunch with completely empty seats and one customer waiting for take-out. Ordered and paid 18% tip since I intended to dine in but not to-go. Got my order with To-Go box but didn't complain since it's the way since COVID. However, when asking for napkins, the waitress said I can't sit and eat inside but was willing to allow me this time. She said I need to tell them I am DINING in otherwise I can't eat inside sitting down. No good deed goes unpunished. The chicken is really, really good! That said, their menu utterly lacks any description of the six or seven different types of sauces you can order the chicken to be cooked with. That's true of their written menu, their menu board, and their website. So unless you already know what you want, or unless you're willing to sample, you're kind of shooting in the dark. The staff isn't particularly helpful either, though they try to be. Now on to the shocking part, at least for me. Not knowing how much to order, I ordered a full serving of chicken and a clear noodle dish (I'd name the dish but I can't find it on their website) to round things out. Dinner for two was $50 (FIFTY!) dollars! No other side orders, bo drinks, $50 from what is essentially a fast food chicken joint. Granted, I had enough chicken left over for lunch (for one person) the next day but even so that's just much, much too pricey for what you get. While I completely understand that everything is going up in price and we just have to accept that everything costs more these days, I'm not willing to drop $50 on a fast food chicken dinner for two again, even if the chicken is very good ( it is.) There are many local full-on restaurants where I can get a very nice dinner for two for less, maybe even with a glass of wine or a beer included (though that might be pushing it a bit.) read more

I tried bonchon twice and I had Vons at least 10 times. The other review seems unreal to me, but well it's propably personal choice. Vons is always the choice for me. The meat is well-cooked yet juicy and the coating is perfect whether I dine in or take out. This location of Vons is good just like the other locations, and the flavor and crispiness are just perfect. They also serve alcohol and I don't remember that with other locations. One thing I can agree is that the portion is probably a bit smaller... but one or two drums less. My half-order came with 5 big drums. The honey cheddar fries was the same size and very tasty and cheesy and perfectly done. I did take out from this place, so I don't know about the location or seating, but I can talk a bit about the food and price. For me, the food is pretty average. For a place that suggests that they specialize in chicken, I think it was decent. It was not anything spectacular, but it wasn't bad either. Just didn't really jump out at me. I also ordered onion rings and cheese balls, with a soupy Dukbokki. These three were also mediocre in my opinion, and nothing really special. Overall a 3/5. As for cost-to-proportion and taste, I'd say that the sizes were a little small for what they cost and the average taste made it feel a little more expensive than it should have been. 2/5. I love how Vons is taking over the Bay Area, and it's nice to have one between Sunnyvale and Redwood City. But based on early impressions, this branch seems like a notch below the others. First, their lunch specials aren't as good. Despite opening really recently, they've already revamped their menu so you're forced to buy a drink, thus the deals start at a minimum of $15. More importantly, the cooking isn't up to par. I ordered a big batch of Crunchy and while the texture was right, the taste was way on the bland side. I know that their taste varies somewhat between batches, but we're talking about a level of flavor that stands at maybe 10% of the Sunnyvale / Milpitas branches. It was almost like they forgot to add salt/spices entirely. Hopefully with time, they'll improve to the franchise average. read more

Chicken was over sauced, yet the chicken itself wasn't very flavorful. Order was ready quickly and staff were friendly. HOWEVER, since the restaurant was almost empty (only 2 other people dining in), we asked to eat there. We were told NO. Yes we ordered take out but they also had plenty of space AND we paid 15% tip on a take out order. I would understand if the restaurant was crowded or we were trying to bring outside food in, but we just wanted to eat their food there that we already paid for and tipped them generously for. I just stopped by because I have been waiting for them to open the entire Covid shut down. They are open. What a fun place to go to. I picked out the soy sauce and black vinegar, fries, fried shrimp, and crispy fried chicken. The little robot bright me my order. So cool. Super clean pretty inside. Chicken was juicy inside and crunchy outside. Size wise were mixed. I ordered the half combo. Drumsticks some are larger than others and the same with the wings. Flavor was great.
