Kunjip has become one of my favorite Korean restaurants near Palo Alto. The food is consistently delicious, and you can immediately tell they use high quality ingredients. Every dish is packed with flavor, and the portions are generous enough to share. The restaurant has a warm, authentic atmosphere that feels both lively and comfortable. The staff works incredibly hard to keep everything running smoothly, and despite how busy they get, the food comes out fresh and beautifully prepared. The banchan is fresh, the soups are rich and comforting, and the grilled dishes are absolutely worth ordering. If you're visiting for the first time, I highly recommend the food. Every meal feels thoughtfully prepared, and it's easy to see why this place is always busy. While it doesn't necessarily have a traditional Korean vibe, but more of a modern take on Korean dishes, it is truly delicious and highlights Korean cuisine. I ordered to-go and was thoroughly impressed! Packaging is fantastic and the banchan selection is super diverse. You only get a little bit of everything and so I do recommend going to the restaurant for a dine-in experience where you could ask for re-fills (I was too tired after my flight). The spicy pork belly was well seasoned and had a really fresh taste to it. I order this at many restaurants, but the marinade really shined on this one. I wish it came with a little bit more meat, but they did include a lot of vegetables. You're definitely paying a premium for their food and I think they do their best to show that with their ingredient quality and packaging. They really do go the extra mile, but it did fall short in some ways. The rice was a little mushy and again the portions for to-go are a little tough to swallow the price for. Once we sat down, I was asked how many water for us and that water never came until I asked again after we finished our appetizer already. Water was never refilled either. We have been fans of the OG Kunjip since they opened and it took us awhile to make it out to Kunjip Tofu, but would definitely be back. We could only get reservations at 4:30 PM on a Sunday with a 90 minute dining limit and was surprised how packed it was even at that time. The waiting queue did not seem to let it up even when we left. The restaurant is warm and inviting and service was great until after we placed our order, which is why the minus one star. Once we got our food, the cart of banchans appeared, but many times she just passed us by even when I kept saying excuse me to catch her attention. Our waiter also never stopped by to see if we needed anything. On to the food, we had appetizers of the Kunjip Tofu, Wagyu Yookhweh, and Wagyu Dduk-Galbi. They are all size in portion but all very good. The yookhweh was my favorite. All the textures and flavors went so beautifully together. For the entree, I went with the spicy octopus bibimbap. Loved the presentation on the tray and not having to share my banchans! I actually enjoyed the banchans more, as the rice was just too mushy in the bibimbap. The octopus was cooked nicely though, very tender. Sadly, I do think this dish gave me some stomach problems, so would not order this again and try their tofu stew next time. We had lunch here before the concert. Honestly I really do not know what was ordered as our friend ordered before we arrived as we were short on time. This is a Korean restaurant on the fancy side, very pretty and well decorated. The service was very good and the sweet lady pushed the cart of banchans to refill without us asking. Instead of variety of banchan to share, they actuall offer individual set of banchan so we do not have to reach over to get to the ones we like. Whatever ordered were very tasty, but the portion was a bit on the small side, but with enough banchan it was okay. I think we had short rib stew, cod, grilled spicy pork, and others. I have already been back to Kunjip Tofu 5 times and I've only been living in the Bay Area for 2 months. This spot has quickly become one of my favorites. All of the banchan (which have free refills) are so delicious and provide a nice variety of textures and flavors. I usually get the Wagyu galbi or the crab bibimbap. My friend introduced me to this place cause she says it is one of her favorite places and now it's definitely one of my favorite spots. We came on a Saturday and the wait was an hour long, but they have a machine that provides drinks and there are heaters while you wait. I got the abalone galbitang which was already seasoned and flavorful. The meat was super tender and every bite was delicious. I tried the wagyu galbi which was absolutely delicious and it had me thinking about it the whole time on my 45 minute drive home. The wagyu galbi was also tender, seasoned well, and delicous. I also tried the spicy oxtail which was fall of the bone and great flavor. We got the spicy which had a kick but wasn't too bad. The have carts to come by to ask which one of your banchans needs to be refilled, which is a nice touch. Service was great - everyone was nice and attentive. Their service is definitely top notch. One of the best modern Korean restaurant in town. We reserved couples days earlier. It was busy when we arrived. The interior is modern looks and doesn't assembled a korean restaurant. The menu is pretty comprehensive with option from tang, bimbimbap, grilled, tofu soup, and appetizer. Each person have to order one. The order come with individual tray for each one with set of banchan. The banchan is refillable except the abalone if I am not mistaken. This is the first time I have abalone as part of banchan. Kunjip is a one of a kind restaurant in the bay that offers homemade Banchan, tofu soups, and Wagyu beef dishes. I was able to call ahead to be added to the waitlist which was amazing! On a busy Saturday we pulled up and was able to get seated immediately since we had already been waiting. They have a parking lot in the back which is really convenient. I was really pleasantly surprised throughout this whole meal. I was a little skeptical based on the price of the dishes but all the dishes have extremely high quality and fresh ingredients as well as huge portion sizes. Each dish is definitely worth the price and felt like a good value. My seafood tofu had 2 pieces of snow crab, 2 scallops, 3 massive shrimp and octopus! The soup had a great depth in flavor. The banchan is also unlimited they came around 2 times asking if you want any refills of specific items. I've never had a lot of the banchan they provided but they were all so delicious. The Wagyu bulgogi was great as well. We loved how they gave butter lettuce so you could make lettuce wraps with the meat. It was well seasoned and not overly salty or sweet. The decor of the restaurant is so pretty and comfortable. The tables felt very private and the bathroom was very clean and modern. I did end up finding out that Kunjip has the same ownership as 10 Butchers which makes total sense in their approach to experience and food quality. You get a timed spot for 75 mins. Food: Our group ordered the mushroom and snow crab tofu soups with medium spice preference. The entrees came with a side of several banchans. The banchans were unlimited and you could ask for more, standard in most Korean restaurants. The crab was sumptuous and the soup was flavorful without being too overpowering or spicy. Apparently there is a Kunjip in Santa Clara that I found pretty mid, but this one in Mountain View wowed me - I am not sure if they are related but this one is a solid 5 stars experience. I showed up on a Thursday for dinner around 5:30pm without any wait, but if I showed up 10 min later, there was a 1+ hour waitlist as every table was occupied shortly after. This is definitely a bougie, modern Korean restaurant that redefines classics like tofu soup, galbitang, etc with more premium ingredients without much pretentiousness. I tried the Chilean sea bass twigim which is a type of fried dish, wrapped with gamtae (seaweed) which added a nice depth of flavor. It is pricy at $22 for 2 pieces, but this is actually my first time having twigim despite having visited Korea and explored the markets before. I probably would not pay this premium again, but I would recommend a twigim here based on the quality - it is memorable I also got the abalone galbitang. Normally, the soups are intentionally not salty so you can add the amount of salt to your liking, but here, they do it for you and it is the perfect amount of salt and flavor. It is served with a wide spread of banchan, including kimchi, quail eggs, crab salad, mini seafood patty, pickled vegetables, plantains, etc. I particularly loved the quail eggs which has some sesame oil below. I opted for purple rice as it is healthier and more traditional pairing to the various Korean dishes. This is now my newest go to place for any celebratory occasions, or just a casual Saturday lunch. The restaurant decor is very inviting and modern and when you walk in, it feels like a completely different place. The servers are really friendly and give really great recommendations. There's a parking lot in the back and I have not had trouble with finding parking but I often see it very full. I've gotten the same thing every time - the wagyu kalbi - and I think about it often. Side dishes are refillable and very filling. Each one is a different flavor and there's no duds in the line up. Recommended by a friend from the local area. We came here on a weekday for dinner. The resturant was very busy, but we were able to be seated in about 15min. I ordered the mix tofu soup. One unique feature of this restaurant is you get your own servings of banchans (Korean side dishes), and these are delicious! And you can get plenty of refills. The mix tofu soup is just delicious as well with large shrimps and whole scallops. Great service with very attentive servers. Our friends have been recommending this place for a while now and we finally had the chance to get together and try it. We camefive minutes before opening on a Sunday and the parking lot was empty. Move over SGD, I've got a new favorite place for gopchang! The intestines were stewed so well that they practically melted in your mouth -- even my toddlers could chew it. The broth flavor was so deep, you could tell that they stewed the gopchang in it and didn't just throw it in last minute. The wagyu was rich without being nauseatingly fatty. My husband and I swapped bowls in the middle and were both struck by how the two broth flavors were distinctly different. We tried the beef tartare and agreed that while it was good, we didn't need our raw beef to be so fatty. We also tried some of our friend's galbitang and the meat was ludicrously tender and fall-off-the-bone. Every dish was excellent but we were truly blown away by the panchan. Everyone gets their own array of 10 small dishes and they also bring a cart around with refills. My favorite was the marinated quail eggs, I think I ate an entire generation of unborn quail. Other standouts were the fried shrimp cake and fried burdock root. I heard they used to give an abalone as well, but as my husband says "I would rather eat refillable quail eggs than one booger sized abalone". 1/1 Stars for Value -- Even though the prices are higher than your average tofu house, you get what you pay for. The soondubus ran between $26-30, but your average mom and pop shop is easily charging $20 these days. The silky delicious broth by itself is already worth paying extra for, the elevated panchan just sweetens the deal. 1/1 Stars for Customer Service -- I noticed that there was an unusual amount of kids in the restaurant but then I realized it is because they are extraordinarily kid friendly. Their high chairs were much nicer than the one I have at home (although that's not saying much). They also gave each kiddo a sippy cup of water and a complimentary wagyu rice ball. For the adults, they gave judgement free panchan refills and also a complimentary dessert at the end. Another nice touch was that the changing station was outside the gendered bathrooms, which allowed my husband and I to split diaper duties. I would recommend calling ahead to reserve a high chair if possible because I did see a family eyeing our high chairs when we left because apparently they had run out. Overall dining experience was phenomenal. There is a wait time but it is very much worth it especially with tea, coffee, or hot chocolate option. Once seated, the overall ambiance was bright and pleasant. The seating is plentiful. Servers are attentive. Upon receiving our food, I was shocked by the quality and quantity. The meat was so fresh and tender. All the bangchan was delicious and flavorful. Personally very impressed with servers asking if you'd like more bangchan. Second time here and the wait was just as long as the first time (2+ hours for a party of 4 on a Friday evening). Food and service were great but wait was long and parking lot fills up fast. There's a shopping plaza next door where you can park and walk over. Our server, Tong, was very friendly and welcoming. There's a cart that comes around and you can request more ban chan. Kunjip is easily my go-to spot for Korean tofu soup in the Bay Area. The soondubu (tofu stew) is absolutely packed with flavor--rich, comforting, and hits the spot every single time. It's the kind of dish you crave and keep coming back for. One of the best parts of the experience is the banchan. They come around with carts offering what feels like endless rounds, and everything is fresh and delicious. There's that saying that a Korean restaurant is only as good as its banchan, and Kunjip definitely lives up to it. Overpriced and disappointing flavors. I've tried both takeout and dine-in here, and unfortunately, it didn't live up to the price point. The Aged Kimchi Tuna Kimbap lacked the acidity I expected. It was 95% tuna mayo, leaving the kimchi undetectable. This was especially frustrating as it didn't match the promotional photos where the kimchi and tuna are evenly portioned. Donkatsu and Vegetable Kimbap were also quite bland. For dine-in, we had the Galbitang and the Spicy Octopus Bibimbap. There were two abalones in the Galbitang, and they were tiny and tasted fishy. It was also served with Chinese-style thick glass noodles instead of the traditional Korean dangmyeon. Galbi was good and bibimbap was okay. While I appreciate the use of Yugi (bronze) tableware, the atmosphere isn't fancy enough to justify $90 for two entrees. This place does not disappoint. Easy enough to join the waitlist or call in to be added. I've been here twice now, both for birthdays, and it always feels special. The decor is so pretty and modern. Great service and the quality of the food is top tier. It is a lot of food because all the appetizers and banchan add up. Highly recommend the sea bass twigim and wagyu galbi. read more

Wow I was seriously so impressed by this place. I now consider this place one of my favorite spots in the Bay Area! There is a decently sized parking lot in the back. We came for an early dinner on a Saturday night...I think the groups that came at 6 had to wait upwards of 90 minutes. 1. Snow crab twigim 4/5 Really delicious with a light batter and a couple of sauces. However, each snow crab piece was $4 which seemed a little bit overkill. 2. Wagyu bulgogi bibimbap 5/5 My favorite of the ones we got! You can choose the sauce and I went with perilla soy, which was nicely flavored. 3. Snow crab tofu soup 5/5 Flavored really nicely with seafood you can actually taste. 4. Wagyu patty (duk-galbi) 4.5/5 This was sweeter than I was expecting but I liked that you can eat it with lettuce and varioius mushrooms/condiments. Overall I think it's pricey but for the amount of food (as well as variety of food) that you get, it's a must-try. The banchan were definitely the standout! read more
