This is one of my local go to for flowers. Today for the first time I was so disappointed. I bought a Lily Bouquet. I did choose it myself. Make sure you check the quality of the flowers. Vons - Grocery Near Me - Covina, California

On 7/30/22 I arrived at Vons (932 E Badillo St., Covina, CA 91724) to order a cake. I ordered a very simple cake (8" double layer whipped cream icing, white cake, buttercream and fresh strawberries filling. The lady in the bakery took my order and wrote out an order slip for me to take to one of the registers. When I approached the register, the store manager (as she later identified herself) happened to be working that particular line. As I stood there waiting to pay for my order, the store manager very silently review the order intently for what seemed like a couple of minutes. As you might understand, I became curious to why the store manager was reviewing the cake order slip for so long? Finally, the store manager informed me (very flippantly I might add) that the bakery staff person did not write up the cake order correctly and that the cake should actually be more than $19.99. I responded by saying that this is essentially the same price that I have paid for the cake just a couple months prior at the same location. Well, after a couple of minutes of terrible customer service as well as back and forth, finally the store manager indicated that she would honor the price that her staff person in the bakery had quoted me. After paying for the order, I became curious so I drove to the Vons located in San Dimas. I inquired on the price for the exact same cake, there I was quoted a price of $22.99 ($3.00 difference). What was particularly frustrating, had the store manager at the Covina location, simply stated the correction upon my immediate arrival to the register, another $3.00 would not have been a problem. However, as she stood there and reviewed the order slip for such an inordinate amount of time, I became disturbed about how the situation was handled. It was almost as if she believed I wrote up my own order slip. It is obvious that the Covina store management is in great need of improving their bakery staff's training, with respect to how to write up cake orders correctly. In addition, I suggest the store manager and the rest of their team undergo implicit bias training in order to properly handle any future misunderstandings. The story doesn't end there. After picking up the cake on 7/31/22 and arriving back home, I soon discovered the cake was not made to the specifications of my order. I clearly asked for the cake's filling to have buttercream and fresh strawberries (which was indicated clearly on the order slip). After cutting the cake, I discovered the filling was made with whipped cream instead of the buttercream. I called Vons immediately to report the problem. Upon reaching the staff in the bakery, I explained the inaccuracy of my order. The staff person in the bakery replied "that they were sorry my order was not made correctly". After an awkward pause, I finally asked the bakery staff, so is that the typical response for when a customer's cake order was not made to the specifications of the order? I guess a light finally went off after my question and the bakery staff person informed me that I could speak to the store manager to solicit a redress for my incorrect order. I politely declined and concluded the call. For future customers, if you should be in need to order a cake for any occasion, I'd suggest bypassing the Vons' bakery located in Covina, CA. read more

Expired Products...Again! (*Over 8 months) This isn't the first time I've run across expired products at this location, but it will be the last. I went from a full time shopper here to an occasional visit for a quick item. Not only was the pizza I bought expired 8+ months, but it looks like it was defrosted and refrozen. It has freezer burn and is broken and no longer flat and round. Unfortunately I tossed the receipt on the way out. I always have a great experience at this vons until today. I decided to order a cake for my moms birthday. I ordered the cake a week ago and even paid in advance. I came today to pick it up. My cake was not even made. The order form was misplaced. They told me to come back an hour later. I came back two hours later. It was ready. I get home and the cake has started to crack. Why not venture across town and try the Vons that I haven't been to in ten years. Looking for the pies. Oooh no. Everyone wanted pie and ice cream. I ask the clerk and he says, "sorry we're out." I guess it's frozens pies. (Claim Jumper) I did like the smell of the chili with pieces of steak in it. It did look like it had been sitting there all day. I almost ventured away from it, but then I stirred it and revived it. The smell was heaven. The chili would be hell to pay for later. There were some good deals. Like the little packets of different varieties of mashed potatoes 4 for $5.00. Cheddar and cheese, bacon bits, garlic, were something I'd crave for a late night mashed potato snack. So everything was going along nice and smooth as I tallied up around $50. of groceries and began my checkout. Two lines to choose from. I rush over to the first line with a very alert looking cashier,, but another customer beat me to it. (awwe shucks) Then I get into the second line and the cashier (M----) has her back to me. I begin unloading my basket and this cashier is to busy with an assistant looking at cell phone photos to acknowledge me. I'm unloading my groceries and have to keep going around the stuff I already put on the belt. She didn't even help me by moving the conveyer belt forward for my order. Meantime, the other customer who was on the first register was done with her large order and had already left the store. I then did the worst thing possible that upset this cashier (M----) tremendously. I brought her back to realization; by asking if she could ring my order up, Wow! YIKES! Did that strike a nerve or what? She was annoyed that I had disturbed her. No hi or nothing and you could see on her face that she was upset. She says "Vons Card?" So I take it out and show her and she scans it. Then I ask little questions, "Not to busy tonight?" Cashier: Straight silence. I say, "not to long before closing." Cashier: Silence. Aaaah, I give up. Then my groceries were rushed through and thrown in bags. Normally, I pick up the bags and put them in the cart to help out. NOT THIS TIME! I think that she was in a hurry so she could get back to looking at whatever was on her assistant's cell phone. As she threw the stuff in my basket, I said thank you to her. She muttered a very low thank you back. I doubt if I will be back. I'll try it again in another ten years if this one is still in business. Pros: the bowl of chili with steak. This is the worst Vons I have ever been to. First of all, it's a very small store, so they won't have the variety you may expect. Second, they are ALWAYS out of stuff. I have to shop after 7pm most of the time due to my work schedule. Whenever I go in here, I'm surprised they are out of basic things. One time I went and there were no eggs left. Literally NO EGGS. Another time I wanted to buy fresh string beans, oops! all out. Tonight I went to buy soda and the soda aisle was whipped out. Practically nothing in the entire section. Third, there is never anyone working in the store who is not checking whom I could inquire if they have more, or ask for a rain check. All the staff is checking groceries, and are busy. Ugh. I'm confused by the poor reviews here! I, like a few others it would seem, have gotten amazing customer service! I've been here plenty of times and I have been stopping by the Deli as of late. Gilbert - hopefully I got his name correct - is the nicest person I've ever met. I've been late due to my own silliness and he still helps me with the brightest smile and quick service. (I wish there was a tip jar somewhere!) Whereas I've gone to other Vons much closer, and I've gotten snappy remarks or glares. Not only that, but the service is very consistently great as well. At the checkout, there are times where my Vons card doesn't work or I've completely forgotten my number many times and the cashiers would fill in for me no questions asked, while keeping a smile and friendly conversation. Overall, this place is great - arguably the best one I've been to yet. The only "downfall" is that their selections aren't plentiful, but I'm okay with that! Mislabeled and expensive prices. Rude and monotonous cashiers. Lengthy and seemingly endless lines. If that's not enough to turn your car around, then you may need higher standards. I don't know why I always found myself here when I HAD to go grocery shopping, especially with a Fresh & Easy across the street. But on my latest shopping trip, I've decided never to step foot inside this place again. Reason? Freshness. Their Safeway branded products ensure "freshness" in every bag. The $5 organic herb salad mix I took home says otherwise. When I opened it, the whiff of spoiled vegetables hitting my face was enough to classify that the mix had gone bad. I can't imagine how often they check their meats, fruits and vegetables for freshness. The managers on duty seem to never really care about how the store is being run. The lady I presumed was the manager due to her clothing was ringing my items up when she told a fellow employee that she just woke up. Ah, the life of luxury. The only cashier that's really nice is George, who has rung my items a couple of times. Sad to say, I won't ever see him again since I'm never coming in this store again. Never. Again. I just recently started going back into grocery stores during this pandemic the first couple months I was strictly delivery, but I didn't use the Vons delivery because it didn't seem to honor the Just For U pricing. The last few weeks, I've returned to this Vons because they seemed pretty organized with keeping it safer (one way aisles, they spray the cart handles) When I go for my items, I also shop for my 75 year old, at-risk mother. It's never been a problem to do our 2 separate orders, as we're 2 households. Sometime some of the items are repeated for each household, but that's never been a problem. Today when I went to check out our orders, the checker refused to let me do my moms order separate and with moms info because I had already bought the same item with my Vons card. I told her my mom is 75 and isn't leaving her house during the pandemic. She insisted that my mom needed to physically come to the store to be able to get her Vons club savings. Very poor customer service, in my opinion. I worked for Vons for 15 years, and I remember that our customer service was always striving for excellence, which occasionally means a little flexibility, especially under such extraordinary circumstances. This is a convenient Vons on the corner of Badillo and Grand. The parking lot can be a mad house since there are a number of stores that share this parking lot. I do like the hot prepared food items and the made to order sandwhiches. This store does seem a bit dark and small inside. The prices are not wonderful, but you can always use your Vons club card or coupons. Things always seem to be on sale here, you just have to wait for what you want to be on sale. read more

My just for you app let me scan the soda on sale but then it was asking for my password that was linked to my old email. An employee told me they could manually put in a code. When I got to the register the gentlemen said he couldn't do that. Surprising because I've seen them do it before. He also didnt offer any assistance with contact information for the app. So instead of just putting the sodas back I left a whole cart of groceries. When I went to pay, I was greeted by the most friendly cashier! This Vons is in a more crowded part of town, along a very busy intersection. I've been a member of Vons market for decades. But I would have to say their meat department is awful now. Their meat department has been awful for the last few years. I buy only choice and sometimes prime. But what they mark as choice is not choice. This meat is awful. More often than not after cooking it I have to throw it away. I am not a bad cook. I've been in the catering business and I know good meat from bad. I do not know how they get away with mislabeling. I understand that meat prices are high. But please put the right label on the meat. I don't like just throwing my money away I can't afford that and I imagine most of the other clients of Vons can't afford it either. It would be cheaper for the clients to pay more money to get real choice meat or prime and to pay for meat that we have to just throw out because you can't chew it. I'm going to see what actions I can take to get the government to do something about this. It'll take a long time I'm sure. In the meantime I'll look for a better market to shop at. read more

I am writing this review as to an instance I recently had with this Vons location. I have lived locally and come here for almost 10 years now and service is always normal (what you'd expect from a grocery store), but I never really had any problems or encounters until recently. I had a charge in my account that left me with a few questions, so I decided to go in and talk to the manager. I was greeted by the manager (I think her name was Mel). And she IMMEDIATELY handled it. One other employee named Celeste helped me out as well and it turned out to not be their fault and it was just a mix up on my part. First I am a Vons employee working at different department, proud of working for Vons, but today will be the last day I shop at this store. Went for shopping on a Wednesday afternoon around 4:30pm which the new flyer starts. Rib eyes on sale this week, great, however there's 0 package left on the shelf after I took 1. at the meat counter, nobody working, there's a underage young guy covering meat dept which can not operate any equipment. raw shrimp and cocktail shrimp, steaks, raw fish all in the same display refrigerator next to each other. No one in the store cares about cross contamination. In my "just for you" app there's a free item, after I check out I found I been charged for it. So went to the customer service, some one let me wait there 20 minutes to refund me 3.99. She claimed that she had to call "just for you" to remove the item from my app, then she can refund me. Which sounds ridiculous, she can refund me and work it out with "just for you" on her own time instead of let me stand there for 20 mins, that's what rep from "just for you" said: just give the customer refund and they'll take care of the rest There are so many choices for grocery shopping in the area. Customer service is so bad. We went to return an item, and the supervisor didnt seem to want to deal with it. We went out our way just to return the bread because one of the bread was marked with a marker! (I know, Weird!). Anyhow, we came in to the store and asked politely (with a smile) about what we can do about the situation, and You would think he would apologize that the store would sell items like that. But he just said "If you guys are buying we'll just deduct it, then walked away". We werent there to shop. And so when we saw him again, I asked if we can just get a refund. He gave it to us but I wish his attitude was just better. Also, in other places, they would try to make up for it. But i guess this store doesnt have those kind of policy, which is fine, no big deal. However, I hope that the way he approached the situation was better. We felt ignored. I get that sometimes we have bad days, but if you're working in a place with customer service, it is your job to keep customer satisfied at least with an excellent customer service. P.S. The manager at this store is CLUELESS. I go in every morning to get fresh bagels for my coworkers and kids. They always have plenty of employees walking around doing nothing (including manager) and a LONG line to checkout. I've addressed this with the female manager MANY times but they do not care or respect their customers, if they did, they would ensure they did not wait so long to check out every morning. Alicia is by far the best worker and cashier at Von's Covina that I have seen. She is helpful, charming, charismatic, and calls most people by name. She knows many of the items people buy and reminds them if they have forgotten something. I have watched her go out of her way to help older people understand their bill. Those who have forgotten their bags have their purchases placed in a cart by this busy cashier. She is the first to notice that a checkout line is too long and calls for assistance. I've shopped at this location a few times and service gets worse each time. Usually, there's only one checkout open regardless of how long the line is. Employees are not so friendly and chatter between themselves as if I was not there. The last time, and will most likely be the last time I'm shopping there, was when I went to buy corn. I was picking through the corn and a young employee passed by and said (in borderline rude tone) "you don't have to pick through the corn, I just brought out a fresh batch". The reason why I was picking through them was the fact that they were far from fresh. I can see he was annoyed since I was moving the corns around. I thanked him anyways and bought some corn since I was in a rush and did not have time to go elsewhere. Well, when I took the corn home and cooked them, I had to throw about half away since they were bad. The only bad thing I can say is that sometimes they are short on cashiers, but thats more of a corporate problem than a store problem. All the people that work there are pretty friendly and I've never picked up any expired food. We decided to use the delivery system conveniently offered by vons for certain bulky or heavy items. First time we ordered we only had one item out of stock. Not a problem and well understood. The next 4 times we used their delivery service they were either one day late, brought different items than ordered even when the no substitution option was checked. Also twice have missing items purchased and said they were delivered.. horrible service and even worse customer service. Good luck if they even answer during business hours.Don't waste your money paying for delivery and just get it yourself. This service is still in its infancy, and will cause headaches read more
