I am not a regular shopper at Smart & Final, but after stopping here at 630 am to purchase ice, I think I am a fan of the store. The store is so clean, well-organized, and fully stocked with MANY items I use and need. Prices were very reasonable and competitive, and the employees were very friendly and helpful. I not only purchased the one item I came in to buy, ice but I also purchased canned nacho cheese, canned jalapeños, and a few other items I needed for a fundraiser. Smart and Final is one of those stores you're just genuinely glad to have in the neighborhood. It's clean, organized, and feels way more put together than Walmart or Stater Brothers. Every time I go, I see employees actually doing stuff like restocking and keeping things neat, which says a lot about how they run this place. My favorite part is definitely the discount food section because who doesn't love finding snacks for cheap? The meat section can be hit or miss, but when it's good, it's really good. When i got to my car and realized i was charged incorrectly, i went back and spoke with the assistant manager Frank, who kindly took the time and patience figuring out a solution and refunding me back the items i was over charged for. Not only did he not seem annoyed, he was gladly willing to help out the puzzle that took place. This store showed professionalism and great organization, during this hectic time of shopping. With giving out tickets to the first 50 customers and blocking the toilet paper, paper towel sections, it worked out totally fine. Start opens at 8am with tickets being taken and 10-15 customers allowed in. 10am regular store hours. What I saw is that the toilet paper and paper towels are be given and when those are out, more comes to the shelves but again with organizational hand out. 1 per customer and either one or the other... hands down the best I've seen, they have enough produce as well. Luckily I didn't have to wait long line before entering. I noticed when coming out. Good to see people are obeying the 6feet distance rules. It was very organized & clean and the lady manager was very professional. (Forgot her name ) I already finished shopping & as I was coming out my husband txt me & ask me to grab some beer & wine & frozen food while I was there, so I had to go back in. I noticed that they didn't have the beer he wanted (Newcastle) But Bluemoon 12pk was on sale. So I got Bluemoon instead but when I was at the register, noticed the price wasn't the same as the sign & told the cashier. And she called the manager, she checked the newspaper ad & said there were minimum purchase to get the price. I told her that I was here couple of minutes ago & purchased & showed her the receipt. She said it had to be on 1 same transaction but she will honor it. So I got the credit back. Huge savings little over $7.00 Bucks. Good Deal!! I was pretty pleased how she handled it. I like Smart and Final, but honestly its more like a grocery store than a restaurant supply place. I miss that. I liked it when they had aisles full of catering supplies, giants pots and pans, and 10-gallon size salad bowls. There are certain items I like to get here still, but there's no big reason for me to go out of my way anymore. Sam's Club has a lot of the party stuff I buy now. They do have dry ice, good to know. Only thing I seriously dislike is the shopping center (rudest drivers I have ever encountered, almost run you down as a pedestrian--why?) and the lines. Went here using a purchase order for my high school softball team. I dealt with Dave the manager initaly my but the day I went in to pick up all my items I spoke with Brandon (he went home early) so I was dealt with Sonia (I think). There was no communication between these three managers which I thought was very unorganized. Also, I had to go in and get the items myself. I assumed my cart would be ready for me to pick up, since I saw bug orders and carts to the side of the registered ready for other people to pick up. Guess I misunderstood? Anyhow, it took some time but everything was squared away and we were able to walk away with everything for our banquet. Thank goodness! It was a headache, but it wasn't Sonia's fault. This store isn't far from my house. I just barely started coming here even though its been here for a long time. There is so much stuff in this store. They always have good prices and specials. The downside there were no carts so I had to go get one in the parking lot. I forgot my pin number but she saved my cart while I called the bank. I locked my card. The cashier was very friendly, patient, and helpful. I ended up getting my stuff because she sent me to her assistant manager. He ran it as credit. My husband and I shopped at the Smart & Final in Covina, #367. The varity, value and prices of merchandise were great. The store was well organized and clean. The cashier who helped us was courteous, helpful and friendly. Besides wearing a mask, the cashier also wore gloves. We found everything we needed in this one store so this saved us time. Update to the review below. I've been back to this store four times since my initial review. A lot has changed and it appears that they have the adequate staff. Saturday evening at 5:20 on 11/25/17. There is one register open and 10 people in line. Finally a young man opens another register and takes the people from the back of the line that have only been in line for about 2 minutes. While the people in the first line are still waiting. There is a lack of training at this place, a lack of customer service and a lack of employees to handle the amount of customers. This is the second time I've been to this location and had to wait in line over 20 min. This time I decided to to wait and I walk out. This place just opened last month and there needs to be a banner outside that says, "under new management" because I won't be back until there's changes. As the years go on, and times have changed, so is the quality of Smart and final extra. I've been going to the Smart & Final for over 25 years, and it has just gone to the dumps. The lines are very long, if you try to ask an associate where something is, half of them don't even know, and I noticed that management stays in that little office instead of being on the floor, and being helpful to the cashiers with the lines are long. read more

I have been a loyal customer of this particular Smart & Final for the last 11 years. I have enjoyed my experiences there & even stopped a shoplifter who was trying to steal a bunch of steaks a few years back. I usually do not wear a mask in the store because when I do, it makes me hack & cough & I know that makes the other shoppers around me uncomfortable & I always see other customers unmasked as well. I usually do my shopping experience without any issues & pay for my items with a friendly checker who most I know & recognize. Well last week, a young girl who I have never seen before approached me & told me that I had to have a mask on. I tried to explain my condition but she abruptly cut me off & told me she was getting the manager. Another young girl came out with purple hair & glasses & told me if she has to wear a mask, I have to wear a mask. I have never been spoken to like that in any market I have ever been to. I told her that I shop there all the time without a mask & have never had an issue. Also there were other customers in the store without masks on & I asked her why I was being singled out. She was rude, condescending & disrespectful & told me if I didn't comply with her orders I could just leave. Now I had been shopping in the store for 45 minutes & had a cart full of items. She them called over another guy who was working there who told me that he disagrees with the masks but is forced to wear it or lose his job. At that point I didn't want to cause any more of an issue so I told the manager, whose name was Kat, that I would just go across the street & spend my money there. She rudely snatched up my cart & I went across the street to Food 4 Less & did my shopping without any issues. It makes me sad but as long as Kat is the manager, I will never shop at this Smart & Final again.... read more

I love it here! Now...they don't always have everything I want but I love the great deals they have on produce. They normally always have some sort of fruit on sale. Last time I went they had 4 pounds of navel oranges for $1!!! Then 2 pounds of apples for $2. It is always clean, well organized. Things are easy to find and everyone that works there is very helpful. They have saved my butt several times when I do catering events since they carry the large hotel pans, sterno, etc. They have a large alcohol section which was nice on New Years! This place is convenient for me to shop. Yesterday, January 22,2018 at approx. 5pm I shopped at smart and final in Covina. I went to pay for my food and there stood Valerie the checker. Let me tell you this lady was very unapproachable, with a stale serious face that it made me feel uncomfortable. No smile, no customer service etiquette whatsoever. I initiated a greeting and she barely acknowledged my presence. She began to scan my items and as my groceries were piling at the end of the conveyer it didn't seem to be a priority for Valerie. I became concerned because food was about to tip Over the side of the counter. I requested to purchase bags and she gave me two and literally gasped and threw them on the counter. She didn't attempt to bag my groceries. She just looked at me and rolled her eyes. I could of sworn this place was a food for less where you bag your own groceries. I mean i don't mind it at all , but keep the attitude for some other place and don't throw my groceries. My 9 year old daughter ended up bagging the groceries and needed additional bags and as i asked for a bag she handled the eggs with no sense of delicacy then handed me a dirty grocery bag with gunk on it. I'm certain this lady had her fair share of misfortune for the day. So, I let her be. Wanted to point out this was a terrible interaction. I'm a grown women and don't need another grown women behaving this way towards me when she's suppose to be providing a service. Plus, I didn't do anything to instigate a poor interaction. I know it's important to respect and be kind . But boy, did she make it hard for me to form a positive opinion of that interaction. Tired of the incompetency that goes on here. Ever since they remodeled it seems like the service went down drastically. But to be fair a majority of the people here are paying with EBT cards and food stamps with their Prada and Michael Kors wallets. Every time I'm at the checkout the customer in front needs some sort of overwrite. Manager or supervisor needs to come back and forth like 4 times before everything is done. 10 mins later I get to check out. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere! read more

I was very disappointed in smart and final because every morning I drive by there and I see the water out in front in the heat, and then again in the evening I drive by there and still the water is out there in the heat.
