Short version: Incompetence behind the counter. Long version: If you have read any of my reviews you know I expect customer service, BECAUSE IT'S FREE. Today I was buying donuts for a customer. I usually go to Winchell's because they don't charge me $.50 to use my card (Village does) and their customer service is always top notch. I had to wait in a long line which I didn't mind because that usually means the donuts are good. It was finally my turn, I ordered a dozen, and the girl put 10 in the box and 2 in a bag. (That's another thing, Winchell's gives you 14 for the dozen price, not so at this establishment.) She then turns to the next customer in line so I told the cashier (Possibly the owner) that I was buying these for a customer, could I please have a bigger box? Instead, she takes all the donuts out, rearranges them and hands me the box back that now has TWO sets of greasy fingerprint all over it. (sarcasm font) Fantastic. EXACTLY what I wanted. This is clearly the local favorite for early morning donut noshing. Donuts are light and airy, which is what I look for when I'm talking donuts. All the usual favorites you'll find here. What makes this place my favorite -- at least over the very similar TK Donut just around the corner -- is their Thai tea boba drink. TK has them too, but unlike TK, Village serves their drinks in plastic, not foam cups. I once poked a hole in my drink from TK, spilling it all over the car. You won't have that issue when you get your drink from Village. Then again, TK doesn't have all the annoying religious proselytizers hanging out that Village does. So pick your poison -- crazy religious dudes or spilled drinks! read more
