This is the closest Grocery Store to my lair, so I shop here all the time out of convenience. It's a standard Vons; higher prices on many things but everything else is pretty much the usual: Clean stuff, Bakery, Starbucks coffee stand. The workers are are either young people that you'd see at an underground punk rock house-party or midlife pros have been in the grocery biz for years while they work on their side projects. What will sway your opinion to shop here or not is the sketchy characters in the parking lot or right outside the building. Many are panhandlers, some old toothless people, some young teens who want your change. There are also creepy watchers; guys who park, put the car in idle while they watch people in the parking lot. Do they follow people? Do they just jingle and jangle the change in their pocket? I don't know, and I don't stick around to find out. Oh, and another thing that bothers me about this place is how every time you go to the register, they ask you if you want to donate money to Cancer, or Haiti or some other non sense. I tell them no, and not to ask me again because I'm there a lot, but they say management requires it from them so they must do it. I don't have time to look into their donation program to find out if it's legit, so If I say don't ask me, just don't, man. I've avoided this place many times just because I hate this repeated begging from the cashiers. The last time They asked me to donate, I said no and pulled out a little jar from my sweatshirt with "Starving African Children' written on it, and asked him if he would like to donate. I want to comment on the meat manager, Wady. He gave me outstanding service with such caring and attention a few weeks ago while I was shopping. Answered all questions with a communication level so friendly and competent in this area of meats. When I looked a bit confused about all the different eggs, he came over and sorted that out with me also. His willingness and professionalism is highly appreciated. For the most part the customer service is great! The staff are helpful & I rarely have trouble finding what I need. However the reason for my review is to point out that they should consider getting rid of some of the cashiers there, especially the older woman Michelle. Every time I go in there, she is unpleasant, rude & extremely unprofessional even before Covid-19. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt because we are human & are entitled to have our bad days but I have been going to this location for years & every time I encounter her she seems unhappy to be at work. read more

My family has always shopped at this market, but as of today probably never again. The young guy working in customer service was a complete a-hole to my mom, after embarrassing her in front of other customers and saying something along the lines " I'm not going to explain because you don't understand" and then tossing a refund at her while all she wanted was a price adjustment on two items we were overcharged on when their price stated otherwise. Did you know the lot that this Vons is situated is where the original San Pedro High School was located before it moved to its current location? The store is a bit on the ghetto side, mostly because half the patrons are of the WIC and transient variety. There's always kids and adults loitering at the front either smoking cigs or getting high, asking passer-by's for money to feed their munchie habit. Inside, the Starbucks kiosk brings a little class and integrity to the set-up. For the most part, the vegetables and fruits are fresh-looking, but I never buy crap from there because the prices are exorbitant. Try avoiding the store on Friday and Saturday nights after 9 pm, because the lines are insanely long from people buying booze. On Friday's, there are some good deals for $5. Went with a friend, who warned me that the checkers are usually teenagers of the mind-numbingly stupid and slow-working variety. They weren't, but the lines were unnecessarily long. What really got me was the prices - holy crap! Sure, they had Vons Club bargains, but even those seemed as if your savings merely brought the prices down to average. It was certainly more expensive than Ralphs, and brand-name products are far cheaper at Target. The produce was in good condition, but the selection was small, and not on your life am I paying $2.69 for an organic avocado!!! That's an entire dinner at Del Taco! My shopping partner just reminded me of what actually made me freak out and say I'M MENTIONING THIS ON YELP!!!: they were playing Britney Spears's version of "I Love Rock N Roll." Now, I really do like me some Britney and I adore me some Joan Jett...but this is one of the worst covers ever ever ever, and after I heard it in "Crossroads," I was hoping to never encounter it again. Unpleasant. Wow. I was driving by fairly late one evening--say, 9pm--and decided to stop by this Vons to pick up a few items because I didn't think my local grocery would still be open by the time I got home. The store itself and its contents were pretty typical for Vons, so no complaints there. However, as I was pulling up into the parking lot and heading into the store there was a guy with his palms on a cop car getting frisked not fifteen feet from the front door. His own car was parked kind of askew and halfway onto the sidewalk. It seemed like a weird place to pull over for the cops, but I figured hey, who was I to judge..? Until I got inside and all the late night staff were abuzz with opinions about what was going on outside. It seems the guy was getting booked for drunk driving--a fact which I discovered when the checker ringing me up announced to his compatriot at the next register that HE'D only driven drunk LIKE, FOUR TIMES, and he was always SO CAREFUL, with the compatriot concurring throughout. It slowly dawned on the loud checker what he was doing (interacting with a customer and confessing to dangerous and illegal activity at the same time! with the popo ready and waiting outside!), he suddenly realized this was perhaps a poor idea, and belatedly added, "uh, just kidding." Horrified, I left. I will be driving in San Pedro, and specifically in the vicinity of this Vons, as little as humanly possible from now on. read more

Beware of the times you come here. If it's before 830am it sometimes gets crowded and I do not understand why they do not open more registers they have only 1 in the morning. I don't get that. If it's after 3pm they are swamped too and they only have about two cashiers. Still, I don't get that. Their staff is outgoing and very polite. That's an A plus in that area. read more

Always long slow lines. It is Saturday afternoon and only 4 lines open out of 7, each with a dozen impatient shoppers. No management seen anywhere, all home watching the Dodger game. I read an entire National Enquirer while waiting. One lady who was only 3 months pregnant when starting in line, went into labor and delivered before finally gave birth when she got to the cashier. When I entered the long line, George W. Bush was still President. It was the last time the Cubs were in the world series. I am convinced that this is ABSOLUTELY the WORST Vons on the planet! Seriously, it's bad enough that Vons steals your entire check from their prices alone, but on top of that you have to deal with far below standard quality. I only come here when my gas tank is on empty and I can't bother stopping to fill up. Even then... I always end up regretting that I even bothered coming here. Why?! There hasn't been a single time where I can go in and find everything on my list. Aisle after aisle has empty shelves where items are sold out and haven't been restocked. There's never more than 2-3 registers open at a time, despite lines being ridiculously long. Everyone who works here hates their job. The produce guy (older gentleman who wears glasses) is rude and very condescending. It was Jesus alone who didn't make me lose my religion up in there. The cashiers are always having sidebar conversations with the courtesy clerk and will snap at you if you even attempt to interrupt them. Ghetto but ain't even in the ghetto. The starbucks in the Vons pissed me off so bad. I ordered Iced Coffee and she gave me old watered down coffee that looked like iced tea. I would never serve that to someone... trying to get away with a fast one. What a bitch. So I gave it back to her cause I COULD NOT drink that shit and when she started brewing the coffee she never said "OK ITS GONNA BE A MINUTE MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME" she just ignored me cause I had obviously annoyed her with my complaint. Then the redo coffee tasted like a shoe. Yes it was at least dark enough to be called coffee but it tasted like she burnt the beans. They have a Starbucks coffee for you caffeine fenners, i am one of them. I only go to this location when I absolutely have NO other choice. I have to agree with the majority of the "yelpers" here . . . the lines are extremely LONG 99.9% of the time. Not during "high peak" hours, not during holidays, but ALL THE TIME!! I don't know if they are short staffed. I don't know if the registers are "down" (highly unlikely) but management needs to really take notice and make some improvements. It really sucks (for lack of a better word) to want to run in and out to get a few items and be stuck in a line for 15-20 minutes. I haven't had any problems with cashiers. This Vons isn't as nice as the one on 25th. And there's a security guard for the interesting people both inside and out. I rarely stop here since a nicer Vons is just a few blocks away. The prices aren't very good at any Vons, regardless of location. Everything that's on "sale" is almost always at least a dollar higher than Target. The lines can get very long at night. Several people were stocking shelves while the line had at least 6 people! Talk about bad customer service! The selection is adequate but not all inclusive. I can't find my Ling Ling Potstickers here, I have to go to the other Vons. It's not as well stocked either, like somebody always raided the shelves. Vons is supposed to have a standard of service that I just don't get here. And it's only at this location. If your going to have a store, do it right and have it at least as nice as the one in the same city! read more

First off, kind of a dodgy neighborhood but we were in the area and needed to pick up a few necessities. It's a small-ish store and they don't carry (or don't have room for) certain items we normally can find at say, Albertsons. Also, prices seemed higher than average. We have a Vons card and most of the things we purchased were on sale so, no big deal. The produce section was a bit lacking. Wanted bananas and they were all but picked through and bruised up - meh. There were only 4 checkout stands open, one being an Express lane so it was a bit of a wait. Then again, it was around 4p so who knows. Nevertheless, the cashier was efficient and helpful. My review is like the majority of the negative reviews about this location. I am a frequent Vons/Pavilion shopper, but occasionally will stop by this location. Produce is fresh, a lot of good sales, but the there isn't a lot of selections. Maybe because of the part of town they cater too, but that isn't their fault. The staff is not friendly. I had one experience with the checker and bagger having a conversation without acknowledging me when i was paying. Another time, they handed me a receipt without thanking, like the place on 25th, where they are very friendly. Parking lot holds a lot of shady people. Just not the best VONS. If you go after 6pm, they have the store on lockdown and you have to go though a single enterance and exit. The isles are narrow and the selection is limited. They don't have a ton of stock of each product as well. The produce section is good and you can't complain about that. The checkout lines are long at times and their is limited space between the isles to the checkout stand. Overal, look it's a small market and not in the best area. They get the job done, but it's worth considering a drive a few miles away to another Von's or other supermarket. read more

From the get go you're welcomed by a mob of panhandlers. Not your typical panhandlers either. I felt unsafe in the parking lot and was actually worried about walking back to my car after I shopped for a couple items. As soon as I walked in placed looked dirty and unorganized. The floors looked filthy. The customer service was acceptable, but nothing special. Made it out safe. The store is one thing but the panhandlers is another. Some looked like they were on heavy drugs. A cracked out, possibly homeless, guy was banging at my window to get him money for gas for a bike that I'm sure he doesn't take gas....nice try guy. Pretty crappy customer service at the WesternUnion counter in Vons , where I stood by the counter and the employee walks off and leaves me hanging, when I asked for help they tell me that she just went on break and she will be back in ten minutes, even the manager came out and said that she will be back in 10 minute, The counter doesn't say that WesternUnion counter is not available if employees are on break and only certain hours are available! The manager should have stepped in or have a sign that says that someone will be back in 10 minutes read more
