I moved to a new home and had to find a new Vons; unfortunately, this particular Vons is the worst. I've been there on 4-5 occasions. There is no service what so ever if you're trying to find something. The employees don't even bother to look up from what ever they're doing to say hello, or OMGee, offer you any assistance. They are constantly out of items that I need, which are "basic" items not extravagant ones, and on and off the shelves are bare where there should be product. Most of the cashiers don't even bother to say hello, they check you out, hand you a receipt like I'm not even a person and of course don't even offer a Thank You for my business. Don't they realize my business is part of their job security? I have been shopping at Vons for many years, but it's time to move on. read more

Just wanna do a special shout out for a girl named Kirsten, In the flower arrangement department I was very confused on what I should get for a family friend when it came to type of roses or flowers and vase. Ahe went above and beyond to take extra time to help me. Helping me make a better decision and it worked out beautiful she had a great insight on what I was looking for and I want to recommend anyone that needs a flower arrangement to see her because her knowledge for people's needs are incredible. While they do have a decent selection and friendly/helpful staff, the quality of the deli is preposterous. My 2 star rating is based solely on the crusty old crap they lay out as the deli selection. This Vons is in the same complex as CVS. There is plenty of parking. There is also a Starbucks in the Vons. So this Vons is usually pretty empty, which could be a good thing. Basically, you won't wait long in line. However, I get the feeling that it's empty because it's not the nicest store. It's not updated. Especially not outside. There is a key to the bathrooms up front connected to a piece of wood. The prices are a bit higher than Ralph's in my opinion. The hard liquor is now locked behind glass which can be annoying and inconvenient. And there isn't exactly a chip aisle. The chips are at the end of every aisle. I've never had any complaints here. Sometimes many homeless people asking for money outside. Someone is making a homeless tent city on the other side of the CVS. Also, this store closes early at about 11pm-12am. read more

I'll start off by saying the people that work here are really nice, have never had a problem with them. That being said..... .... there is hardly ever enough staff on hand. The worst is always the registers. They now have those "3's A Crowd" signs all over the place, and last Saturday, they had two registers open, each with 6 to 7 people in them, moving very slowly. It took them 15 minutes to even call for someone to open a new register. Also, they has the weakest selection of groceries of any Vons around. Far too limited. read more

I have previously reviewed this Vons, but today was the latest in a string of recent bad experiences at this store. As of today, no more. Not a single person employed at this location actually cares sufficiently about service to customers to do anything more than mouth vague platitudes about assisting patrons. Geez, if you can actually get any of them to greet you at the register with something like, "Hello, did you find everything you needed today," that would be a revelation. Instead what you get are mumbled "hellos" followed almost immediately by "club card?" This asked often before one has actually gotten to the POS device. Each and all seem as though they find customers to be, at best, a necessary annoyance. Should YOU ever need to inconvenience THEM with a problem, be prepared to act sheepish, obsequious and deferential, since the fact that you are spending your hard-earned money with this store is not ample reason for them to treat you with courtesy or even to tolerate any angst you might be experiencing as a result of their mistakes. At this location, the customer is always wrong. Over the course of a recent period of time, I've been over-charged because of improper price displays on shelves, almost tripped and fallen when boxes of stock were left strewn along aisles, and made to interrogate what was being sold on special or not and in what way because some signage suggests you have to buy two to get a deal when that is often not the case. But forget me. How about other customers? A few weeks ago a very petite and short woman was trying to grab an item placed on the top of one of the shelves in the coffee/tea/beverage aisle. Two employees walked by her and seemed not to notice, utterly oblivious to a patron in need of a little help. I eventually asked if I could assist her and retrieved the item she wanted. This morning, a bag of chips was placed with others in the wrong place, suggesting one price when it was in fact another, which I discovered after checkout when I reviewed my receipt. The money difference was minor, but I finally decided enough was enough. I went back inside and got to a register and explained my problem - and, no, I was not in a good mood - only to have the cashier say she was offended by my "attitude." Eventually the assist manager on duty offered to help, but she also decided to speak to me rudely (the proper words but spoken in a poor tone) and say how my attitude was inappropriate. She assured me other customers had better attitudes. Alas, that was likely so, but they were not having my problems, were they? I did not raise my voice but I did speak sternly. And obviously my attitude was different than the attitudes of the workers - obviously. I was the one with the problem! It was there job to courteously help me resolve it. (Think how the ideals of service have been turned on their head. Rather than workers ensuring the best experience for customers, it is we who have to concern ourselves not to cause a bad experience for workers!) I eventually spoke to the main manager, but I am certain that nothing will come of it. Why? Because I have spoken to store management, district management and even the regional people and nothing ever changes. I will have to drive a little out of my way to get my groceries, but a nearby Ralphs usually has more courteous people. If that turns out not to be the case anymore, they at least have a self-service checkout. I hate the idea of putting workers out of work, but self-service is about the state of affairs at the Vons in question. Staggeringly bad. read more

When Trader Joes, Gelsons and Whole Foods are in lock-down for the night, and I'm desperate for some essentials, this is my "last resort" grocery store. Upon entering, I always feel like I'm in a dimly lit, seedy feeling market in some rank third world country. Why, you ask? It feels kind of creepy and depressing, their dark lighting is eerie and almost all the people that shop here look as though they're either on the wrong anti depressants, their meds haven't kicked in yet or they're not ingesting enough of them. In other words, they look depressed and move in an excruciatingly s-l-o-w fashion. My Stuart Smally-like nature just wants to gather all of them up into one big group hug and expose them to the miracle of a loving and supportive group therapy experience, encourage them to get in touch with their feelings, so that they can talk about their sadness or whatever else is ailing them, so that they can cry it out and move on to a better tomorrow. "You're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, people like you!" The food: Most of what they pawn off as organic produce looks like it's been sitting for far too long AND they expect their customers to pay "Whole Foods" prices. Come on people! We tree huggers that purchase organic produce? We do so because we desire to eat healthy nutritious food. I hate to break this to you, but when produce is in the gray-brown, wilted and ready to be read it's last rites stage, it's then devoid of most, if not all of it's nutrients. Kind of defeats the purpose, yes? It's almost as though upper management dashed off a memo to their stores, letting them know that they 'must' carry organic produce and the managers did what they were told, but did it begrudgingly, as if they had no interest in the stuff selling, so they could then report to the CEO that the 'organic produce thing' hadn't been successful. The reason I think it's a distinct possibility, is because a year or so ago I'd nicely asked the manager if he'd please order some soy ice cream, and he didn't seem much too thrilled with the idea. He'd said that they really didn't have the room for it. I said "Well, you might consider making some room, by removing one of the 50 or so brands that you're currently carrying, of the regular ice cream products?" After about a year and a half of me repeatedly asking him if he was going to order any, he finally did but it's in the most boring basic flavors such as vanilla or chocolate, hidden in the back of the refrigerator case and most of the time it's out of stock. I've asked him a couple of times if he'd be so kind as to place larger orders because obviously, the stuff is selling... and I'd also requested that he add to it more interesting flavors. ... Lets just say that I didn't receive the answers I would have liked.. It was a "No Go" on both counts. . Also, the deli items often times look as though they've been sitting in the case for far too long. I wouldn't recommend their selections as the food is nothing special. Next door is Gelson's and their deli is far superior. At this point, I've given up on changing a thing about this Vons, and All I can think of while speed shopping for my items, is getting the Hell out of there. 1 star for the nice guy that offers to help bring my groceries to my car that's parked in their scary parking lot. 1 star because they're open late at night. Update: 02/07 I called their corporate office and read them my review and the woman that I spoke to was really grateful that I'd let her know what my experience had been like in this particular Vons. She also said that the mgr. should of let them know that a customer wanted them to add more choices of non dairy ice cream... Since then a miracle has ocurred! I visited Vons the other day and I didn't even recognize the organic produce area, 99.9% of it looked fresh, and it looked tended to... and the whole area was far more attractive. In the past, the bins were half empty and the produce was unappealing and old. This visit, the only negative thing that I noticed was that the celery was brown on the ends, as per usual. I added one star! Thanks Vons! Now, if they would only get rid of the ancient looking flooring (which makes the place look unkept and dingy), add good lighting, do a remodel, and clean up the parking lot, the inside and outside of the store would look clean and bright. Hint Hint. ;-) Update: 06-02-07 I'd figured that there would be an improvement in their selection of non-dairy ice cream but absolutely nothing has changed since the call. The last couple of times I've visited the store, I found nothing other than dairy ice cream. Shame on you Ms., and you seemed so sincere... This entire shopping plaza needs a lovely, highly localized earthquake to remove these outdated shops and Minosian-maze like parking lots. Walking from car to store is like running a gauntlet of Dickensian street rabble and Bedlam rejects. Human feces... on the sidewalk... between the Longs and the Vons. No, I don't want you to show me what you are selling out of the trunk of your Ford Fiesta. Yes, as a matter of fact you are driving the wrong way down the aisle. But that's not Von's fault, right? They must be doing something right. Day or night, the fucking place is heaving with bodies, like a rave and you are beautiful and just drunk enough to feel good about yourself and comfortable with your body. The sickening green light makes everyone look like Soviets waiting for a ration of toilet paper. Smiles look ironic, or psychotic. Food? Yes. They have it all. Bread. Meat. Vegetable matter. Food preserved in cans. Homogenized milk. Yes. We are an abundant society. You know who else has these items? Ralph's. Gelson's. And... every other grocery store you visit. So what is remarkable? They have a Starbucks. This is good because I think I heard you can't get coffee anywhere else anymore. That is literally the last coffee merchant in Los Angeles. So, points awarded. What is remarkable is looking at the queues for checkout, looking at the loaf of Wonderbread and jar of Nutella in your hand and saying "Yes, this is worth it. This is JUST like waiting for Space Mountain. Yes. The children waiting in the car will have grown up and had children of their own by the time I have receipt in hand, but standing in the dull, green light of THIS Von's... at this time... in this country... with Obama almost in the White House... it is worth it. Vons...You were my first grocery store. I saw you grow up from a grocery store with aisles of motley cereals and a small produce section, to a sandwich bar, a Starbucks, and an expanded produce and organic aisle. Vons has made numerous improvement in the past years, but it still has a long way to go. The organic and vegetarian section is small and the choices are limited. Their vegetarian section is approximately 4 feet long in between a frozen food section and lettuce. While the red meat section spans almost one side of the whole store. It seems like the store is trying to make the transition to healthy and organic foods, but one can still see the vestiges of preservatives, calorie-filling fake foods from its past. The lights are dim, breads and wines are in wooden baskets giving off the illusion of antiquity, the farm, and home. Suggestions: 1. Expand the vegetarian and organic foods section. 2. Stop selling pre-packed meals such as Hungry Man and all the other meals that have limited nutritional value, a large intake of calories, for the mere fact of selling something. 3. Keep researching and innovating foods and the shopping experience. Vons is Ok. I wish it would broaden its horizons given its large scale and dedicated customers. read more

I recently shopped this Vons and was quite happy with their selection and service. The shelves were stocked and although there were some items that they didn't have in stock, I was able to get everything I was looking for. My cashier, Teresa, was awesome. She is friendly and fast at getting the line moving. I can only imagine how much patience she and her colleagues have given some of the attitudes these days. I never complain or do reviews, especially not bad ones. So one of the cashiers here rang me up. I was having trouble with my debit card. It kept saying error twice when I swiped. I told the cashier kindly "I'm sorry I'm having a hard time , it keeps saying error" the girl rudely said "well I can't do anything about it" and just looked away. I was so pissed lol just the tone of how she responded was rude. I've gone to other stores where the same thing had happened and the cashiers kindly help me out. This is the Vons closest to me, so unfortunately I have to stop in sometimes for quick items. I hate it. Several reasons: 1. The parking lot is like asking for an accident. Too many people going different directions and two of the aisles are actually made in the wrong direction. I've had many a scare here. 2. My god have they heard of a mop? The place is dirty and disgusting. 3. Selection - this is maybe the worst in terms of space and management of what they have in each section. 4. Prices - why are the prices higher here? I'd rather drive a bit further and go down to the new Pavillions near Corbin. MUCH better overall experience. read more

She calls for help every two seconds, and can't even bag items herself. She called for a bagger for 3 items. I mean seriously you're getting paid to WORK so work! This is a terrible Vons. It's an older store, which is fine, but they need to update it...BADLY. The deli section is awful. I wouldn't want to purchase any meat from there. The produce is awful but expensive. This location is only good for pre-packaged items. I agree with other reviewer's assessment of the parking lot. It is an absolute nightmare. No one can drive and there are so many ways to enter that it becomes a daunting task just to park. I think I will be driving a bit further to visit the Ralph's Fresh Fare from now on. read more

This is only for their sandwich section. The guy who works there is terrible at his job. I've encountered him twice and honestly-- could you guys put him at another station? I wanted two sandwiches yesterday. Turkey pesto avocado. I get to the counter and he's helping someone else which was ok. When he finished helping her, he said he would be right back. I don't know what 'right back' meant in his world, but in mine, I would like it be under 5 minutes. Took him about 10. Anyways, he starts helping me. Me: Can I have this sandwich warm? Him: Yes of course ...Starts making my sandwich Him: I forgot to tell you this sandwich is cold Me: Could you make it warm? Him: Oh (already had the mayo on it). UGHHH. Not the friendliest Vons I've ever been to. Many of their deli employees often seem too apathetic about the buying needs of the customer. I always buy their Chicken Meal Deal but their signage needs updating and clarification. I read their sign that says I can get two Signature Salads. It didn't have any price restrictions or retrictions on type of salads that I can choose from. So I picked up a tuna salad that had the Signature Salad label on it to try it out and the cashier daid this was not included in the meal deal. I told them that the sign said ANY two Signature Salad. She called the assistant manager and explained my situation. The assistant manager said because no one eats tuna salad with chicken it is "obvious" that Vons doesn't have to clarify that certain salads are not included. I told her that the sign should be changed so it doesn't confuse anyone else but she said I should at least "know" this already and not argue about it. I think this place only deserves two stars... if they change their attitude, I will at least give three the most. read more

Worst customer service ever!!!! Just stopped to get some flowers around 7:20 PM, the floral department was closed. We asked one of the associates to help us in order to put some flowers together. The lady said that she doesn't work at that department but she was nice enough to give it a shot. After 10 minutes trying to put all the flowers together The very rude lady ( store supervisor)came to us yelling that why the associate didnt charge us for arrangement!!!!!!! I have tried to explain the situation to supervisor but she was so impatient and unpleasant. I told her that she needs to take some courses to learn how to deal with the customers. Ugh. Gross. I'm about to pick out some frozen chicken thighs, so I reach into the shelf and find a bag of soggy, warm chicken. In the frozen section. I notify a staff member, who thanks me and says it's been a problem before. 10 minutes later, I'm at the check out counter, and I can see that this "frozen" section hasn't been attended to yet. I get home, slightly agitated and paranoid about the quality of the other food I bought. I'm starving, however, so I go to pop the ribs I just bought in the oven...only to discover they expired 5 days ago. Never going back there again. read more

I normally shop at food 4 less but every once in awhile I come here for a few things. I went in today to grab a chicken for dinner and I was really excited about it being $5 Friday until I got home and saw that my chicken was missing a drumstick. Someone had to slide off the cardboard cover, open the lid, pull the elastic, and rip off the drumstick. Why not just grab one from the deli counter.
