I went here on this past Sunday and bought some vegetables. When I got back home and my girlfriend started preparing the food for dinner she notice the purple onion I bought was rotted and had to be thrown away. I usually always buy my grocery's at Trader Joe's and for now on I will keep doing so. This place is just only good for buying soda and cat food. Floral section, bakery, decent produce and I'm always on the lookout for wild caught salmon, which they had (although it was "color added" boo!). So just had a Vons cake for the first time, and gotta say it was delicious! Bread was moist, the strawberry filling was smooth, the cake icing a bit to sweet but it was fine also had their cupcakes and as well moist and yummy! I love this Vons... Everything from how simple it is set up to the wood flooring in the produce department, to how nice the butchers are there, and the florists are, and the pharmacists also. They have your basic needs. They are not over priced, though there are a few markets that are much less expensive. It's a great market. There is only one thing I don't like about this Vons- there is a cashier, supervisor, manager, not sure what she is, that has such a bad attitude. She is a very unhappy person and she shows it. It's this heavy set mid aged Hispanic woman. If she is playing cashier, I look for another line. I honestly can't stand going to her. She is the reason I give 4 stars instead of 5. I was going to lower or to 3 stars but that would make the store look really bad and she's not worth it. read more

***update*** Her name is indeed Maria. I was able to confirm that with a box boy. She's an evening supervisor here. That explains why she could treat me so badly without fear of consequence. Initially I stated she was below average height. I just didn't want anyone confusing Maria with Danielle based on my description. Maria is fairly tall and rather large. Intimidating. Scary even. Danielle who is much taller and also plus sized is professional and sweet. Had no problems with Marisol at self checkout the other day. That further confirms it wasn't me, it was Maria!!!!!*** I rarely have a problem with the cashiers here. Some of them I like. Frank for instance. He's robotic at times, but not in a bad way. It's simply professionalism personified. Frank is Caucasian, tall, wears glasses, 50's, well put together, and not bad looking if I may say. He's not here to chat, to befriend, he's here to do his job. If he is at the self checkout machines that's where I go. Otherwise, I hate those darn self checkout machines. They seem good in theory, but I always have a problem. If Frank is there he fixes the problem, if that skinny, younger, white male with the earlobe gauging is there he's likely going to make the problem worse, but as long as he doesn't have an attitude about it I just write it off as him being high. If not I apologize, but he always seems high. It's legal, so no judgement. Yesterday I came in and only one register is open. Jesus was the cashier and the line was long. I believe Jesus is a manager at this location. I remember him substituting all of my monopoly freebies that the store was out of earlier this year. It was last minute and they were out of everything. He substituted similar items for everything without incident. He's nice enough, but not worth waiting in line for. I headed to self checkout. For reasons unknown to me they've added shelves to these registers. Makes it hard to see. Almost discriminatory to short people like myself. As I approached I saw no cashier. Turns out she was crouched down by the register nearest the atms. I scan my items, but the register is telling me my fruit was the incorrect weight. Always something. I look up and around the shelf blockade to see the attendant is looking down at her phone. She looked up at me looking at her, then put her eyes back down to her phone. I couldn't believe it. She saw my help light flashing and could simply care less. So I wave her over and she looked at me stoned faced as she approached. This a a Hispanic woman. Taller than me, but still short. Long black hair, about 250lbs. Not to be confused with another plus sized woman here. She too is Hispanic in appearance, but the hair is lighter and the personality is brighter. Plus she stands at nearly 6 feet, maybe taller. Very sweet woman, this woman on the other hand was not. I've seen her at the store before, but this was my first encounter. She sucked her teeth when I asked why the register did this and said simply I don't know. If she doesn't know, how the hell am I supposed to know? I instantly knew I was going to complain, and thought her name would appear on the receipt, but I was wrong. It says self. I want to say her name tag said Maria, but it may have read Martha. I'm not certain. She was very rude and rude for know reason. She's younger than me. I can't imagine her looking at me in a competitive way, but then again I am naturally trim so it's a possibility. Gang? I've read several stories about gangs like ms13 infiltrating the local schools. Maybe they're infiltrating the work force too? I certainly hope it wasn't race based. I've signed many petitions to keep Hispanic children out of cages. I don't think I'm better than any other race. The same respect should be paid to me. There's definitely a reason for her attitude toward me. It was unprovoked on my end. Working in customer service without a pleasant demeanor kind of defeats the purpose of working in customer service. I work way too hard for my money to spend it at a place or with a person who treats me like trash. This is a fairly simple Vons. I've lived in Tujunga my whole life and I'm pretty sure this place hasn't gotten remodeled in the last 20 or so years. Not a big deal though because we go for whats inside and not what the place looks like, right??? There is a Starbucks and Wells Fargo ATM inside, which is very dandy and convenient! Nothing too fancy like "natural foods" sections that you see popping up in other supermarkets. Just like any other generic Vons, they pretty much have all the grocery supplies you will need. Everything is pretty much great here, but beware of the long wait while you are in line to get rung up. Normal every day grocery store. They have everything you need. Maybe alittle more pricey but Vons always is pricey unless you are buying things on sale. Pretty decent selection of flowers and cards just incase you have to buy flowers or gifts last minute, like I always do LOL!! I liked the fact that they have a blockbuster express there. read more

This Store is cleaner, Milk is in refrigerator row, a whole row of Beer, a whole row of Chips, a Starbucks , Wells Fargo, better Meat Department, outside cart stations which are very nice! They only have 2 checkers and the lines can be very long:( not good Employees are kind of rude which I don't like. I'll see how it goes, compared to Ralph's and just hope things get better at Von's. Two thumbs up for Jesus the manager! This morning I picked up a cup of coffee and some cash at the Starbuck's located inside this Vons... and walked off without getting the cash. When I realized what happened 5 hours later, I went back to see if the cashier had set it aside for me in case I came back for it. I was referred to Jesus who asked if I had a receipt. I couldn't remember but figured I didn't since I walked off without the cash. Jesus was very accommodating, checked the register and asked questions about the time of the purchase, items purchased, etc. When he did everything he could for me, I was informed that I'd have to bring in some form of a proof of the transaction for them to check with their bookkeeper at the end of the day. I was impressed and thankful that Jesus took the time to go over everything even though I didn't have a receipt. When I came back home, lo and behold! The receipt was sitting at the bottom of the tote bag I had taken to Vons earlier. Huzzah! When I brought it back to Jesus, he promptly took care of everything and I got my cash! Besides this job well done, this Vons has a homey, neighborhood grocery store feel. The cashiers are friendly and sweet (this one goes especially to this one lady who asks you to have a good day instead of telling you to :D). There's another cashier with a Hello Kitty bow tattoo on her hand which I think is so cute... another staff member who wants to be a stand-up comic... Pros: Minor facelift for more modern feel Remodeled Starbucks Nice floral and gift area Friendly staff Cons: No self check out Always understaffed registers - incredibly long lines Not fully stocked shelves (especially in the frozen aisles) Limited or no cold non-alcoholic beverages It seems like Corporate should really make an effort to provide more open registers as this is a more recent problem and most complaints on yelp are regarding long lines. read more

I don't ever post reviews but this is just ridiculous- 2 stars taken away for an employees negative consistency. EVERYTIME I come and use the self check out I avoid it Fr*** is manning the station. He never fails to make me feel like I'm the dumbest, most incapable human. (I don't think I am as I'm in advance practice in my field) I didn't see him today, so I used it. Then I saw him at the podium and prayed nothing triggered him to come over. I even debated collecting my belongings and walking over to fall in line. Yes- he's that rude to me. Of course, the bag I brought was too heavy (how am I supposed to know this?) and the dang machine summoned him. I tried to explain myself and make a joke.. he shut me up like I was a little girl and was completely condescending. He made me feel like such an idiot, as always. I actually became emotional and teared up- yes it's that bad- that was my first outside interaction of my weekend. However, he did greet everyone else walking in a "Good morning"! Where's my Good morning? Everyone else there is wonderful and friendly. I will NEVER use the self checkout when he's there! ..until I do..and punch myself in the face for doing so because I didn't see him. I will ask the MOD for the shift roster on my next visit! This store is understaffed because the store manager treats his employees like sh*t. Floral manager is absolutely awful. Items are out of stock constantly because employees are overworked and again... understaffed. Courtesy clerks don't do anything but stand outside and socialize. I get you can only call the cops so many times but the homeless population building up outside is a hazard for both customers and employees trying to get inside and out. It's all fake smiles and is honestly stale. Produce has mold, insects, and old expired products on the shelves. They should be scoped out by those stocking them and thrown away but again... employees are treated like dirt so they don't care to put out the best of what they have. If you ordered through Drive-up & Go... ever notice how some of your produce is "out of stock" or you only get part of it? That would be because the picker noticed that what they have available is disgusting. The only person who ever cares about what goes on is Peter who occasionally works the self checkout but can mostly be found in the pharmacy. Including Raz the assistant store manger. Nothing's changed! In fact I think it's worse! The supervisor Jesus is awesome and tries his best, but it's difficult to soar with eagles when you're working with turkeys. Many of the checkers are just plain rude to customers and extremely LAZY! Ever since they put the self checkout they are even lazier!!!! They are sooooo dumb and lazy they don't know they may lose their jobs one day and be replaced by the self checker. In the mean time I do their job by checking myself out! Can't stand coming to this store. Only a handful of employees are great..the rest are just awful!!!!! Vons was a whole lot better before Albertsons came in. I've switched to Talphs in la Crescenta even though it's not very convenient, but the customer service and store layout is wonderful! No homeless people putting on deodorant in the produce section at this Ralphs like I've seen at Vons Tujunga! read more

If you are shopping from Vons located in 7789 Foothill Blvd, Tujunga,CA 91042 be warned because many products at this store are expired and they are still on the shelves. Last week I was there buying a thousand island dressing and I noticed it was expired on October 2016 and again yesterday June 28 I was at the store looking for Pastrami, I checked the expiration date again and it was expired on June 22nd. I checked the shelf and there were 3 more packages with the same expiration dates and they put the new one on the back of the shelves. read more

I've lived in the town most of my life. Went to high school here. Raised a family. I've been coming to this Vons for the past 40 years. I've usually have no problems. The staff is usually great (with the exception of the baggers who have NO idea what they are doing). But today, I reached a boiling point. For some reason, this Vons is allowing the high school kids take over the store from 3 til about 5 pm. They loiter inside and outside the store to the point they make it impossible to shop. They yell out profanities, chase each other through the store, sit on the cart wall and proceed to graffiti the top...not to mention I've seen several steal from closed food boxes, then put them back (yes, I reported it). The kids are a joke. And it hurts me to say that....since they come from MY alma mater (VHHS). But the store does nothing. I discussed this with one of the cashiers and they said that the school has been told and the school responded back to take pictures of the students and they will handle. But Vons has a policy of NOT taking pictures. SO...they do nothing. Here's an idea. I've seen a security guard in there at night. How about having a few patrol the store...inside and out between 3 to 5 pm. At least make it harder for them to loiter. Put up "No Loitering" signs outside. DO SOMETHING besides shrug your shoulders. This review is Not about the overall experience at any Vons, This Review is Only About 1 Extremely Professional Manager named Claude. I've shopped at this Vons for close to 20 yrs... when I'm in town. I Agree with 99% of the reviews I viewed re this specific location. Here's the Real Issue. Vons corporate is interested in 1 thing, Profits! Let's be Real, if there's no Profit.... there's No Location. It's called Business. The folks that work Anywhere can Only Be at Any store, or Location... When the Location is Granted, Given the Hours for the Manager, Supervisor to arange their Associates, Employess Schedule to Work at the Location. U Cannot have ur store, Location Effectively Staffed when the Manager, Supervisor is NOT, REPEATEDLY NOT GIVEN the Hours... to Schedule the Necessary Staff to run the location Professionally. Claude is the Only Reason I will purchase Anything, Anything at Any Vons Location. I have Witnessed on Dozens of occasions Claude going Out of his way to Accommodate Ever Customer. I've Witnessed again, Dozens of evenings when I stop in and I see Claude monitoring the store and Personally Opening up cashier lines so the Wait Wasn't as Painful as.... Every other Visit to Vons. Claude has a True Sense of Professional Responsibility, and is Extremely Aware of his surroundings. One of my Biggest Issues with this Vons is, Wait For It.... they sell Day Old Bread. I Love La Brea Bakeries bread. Vons Policy on fresh BREAD is .... they put a Date Stamp on the DAY OLD BAKED GOODS. SO THEY KNOW WHEN TO THROW IT AWAY.... UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Unfortunately, now I primarily shop at Ralph's in La Crescenta. Completely Different Experience. Ralph's Doesn't Sell Day Old La Brea Bread..... Claude, Thank You for being a True Professional. This Vons is a pretty good store, they'd get a much higher review from me if there wasn't one key problem. Their liquor is locked behind plexiglass doors. ALL of the liquor. Even the stuff that's $5.99 a bottle. There's a bell that one can ring for service. We ring. We wait. 5 minutes. 10 minutes. We ring again. We wait. Another 5 minutes. We give up, and go find someone to open the doors, get our 1 bottle of rum for the party, and go to the checkout line. While we're checking out, another frustrated customer, who rang the bell and waited patiently JUST LIKE THE SIGN SAID, comes and asks for assistance in the liquor department. I say, somewhat jokingly to the cashier, "Does that bell even ring anywhere?" She says "It used to." I didn't investigate further- but really? It used to? IF THE BELL ONE RINGS FOR SERVICE DOES NOT, IN FACT, GARNER SERVICE YOU NEED TO TAKE DOWN THE SIGN THAT SAYS 'RING BELL FOR SERVICE'. You can replace it with a sign that says 'Ring Bell to be Ignored'. read more

Full disclosure: I am already partial to this store because, well, I live a few blocks away, it's a small town, I see several people I know every time I'm there - it's our neighborhood market. I feel kind of silly writing a YELP review on a chain grocery store, but I'm gonna - and it's about their bread! Yes, I said it. This chain grocery store has REALLY good bread. Okay, I was raised on bagels, love bagels, have been to bagels places all over the country - New York, Philadelphia, blah blah blah. This Vons has the best bagels I have ever had. They are really that good. And I never would have bothered trying them but I was in a hurry, didn't have time to run to my favorite local bakery and grabbed couple of Vons bagels. SO GOOD! My favorite is their "everything" bagel with their jalapeno and cheddar bagel as second runner-up. So, go figure. You never know where a good thing might pop up. This is a nice, clean, newly remodeled chain grocery store - with a Starbucks, floral shop, etc. - that happens to have AWESOME bagels! Props to their other breads, too. I have since tried a few "Artisan" breads (Vons/Safeway's premium bread brand) - the olive bread and the french breads are delicious! Be sure to swing by this store's deli department if you're in the mood to be ignored for extended periods of time, even when you're the only customer there and you're politely waiting. Also be prepared to be attended with complete attitude. This morning I was waiting to be attended at the service deli for at least five minutes... nobody was anywhere in sight. I just patiently waited. When I finally saw a short elderly woman come out of the back room, she looked at me extremely annoyed and started throwing everything around and opening the warm food doors, throwing the chicken in there like her husband cheated on her and she was throwing his shit out the window, and SLAMMED them all shut. Still didn't acknowledge me. She walked hastily to the back and threw an empty chicken bowl on the counter. At this point, I would rather pass on breakfast than to kiss this woman's ass for a fucking breakfast burrito. I left as she was finally walking towards me because she looked pissed. Forget it. Listen, we all have bad days at work... Don't take it out on customers. We want to get out of the store just like you want to leave your shift. And preferably, not in a bad mood. read more

This market is pretty decent. The meat quality is good and so are the fruit and veggies. A big plus also is that people drive properly in the parking lot unlike the Ralphs down the road in Sunland where the parking lot seems to be most people fun bumper car zone! read more

Been coming here 2-3 times/week for at least 1 year (since moving into the neighborhood). Stay away from a cashier named Frank. I had a terrible experience with him today. There is a lot more to this review that I am not going to share here only because I know he has a family and I don't want to jeopardize his career, but just know that my situation could have been handled much differently/professionally. I still love you Vons BUT you need to get your act together in the deli, specifically the sandwich making area. The ice part of the drink machine doesn't work so the clerk tells you to "go to Starbucks to get ice." Then when I come back and fill up the cup there are no lids available for that size drink and the drink is completely flat with no carbonation. Not the worker's fault. The in store Starbucks will be closed for a month for renovation so where will people get ice for their drinks? Just saying, pay some attention to this. read more

This is a very well-run store shelves are always stocked in the store is very clean too bad that the kids at the nearby high school ruin it by loitering raising hell. Summertime is like a whole Different store, much more relaxed atmosphere and much quieter. They have one of the best checkers you could possibly have, her name is Cindy ..... Fast, efficient and friendly, nobody works harder and has a nicer personality. My most visited store. It's clean and the employees are very professional and nice. However my last visit I was buying strawberries, and every non-organic package had a nasty moldy gross strawberry on the bottom. We literally went through 75% of the packages. The organic ones were fine but there were only 4 packages left. I was disappointed. Not that I mind buying organic, I prefer it if the price is right. But the idea that every package of strawberry next them had mold in them wasn't appetizing to say the least. read more

I will never step foot in this Vons Grocery Store again. I have filed previous complaints with corporate regarding filthy grocery carts. I have never received a response. I have moved almost 95% of my monthly shopping for a family of 8 equal to approximately $1500 a month to Albertsons up the road and only going to this Vons to get a single forgot item out of convenience since last November, 2012. I went to the Vons Pharmacy 6 days ago to get Diabetic test strips for an elderly lady who could not afford them and could not reach her doctor to renew her prescription. She ended up reaching her doctor before needing to use the box I purchased for her. It is unopened. I never even took it out of the Pharmacy bag, yet the Vons Pharmacist refused to let me return an unopened box of 10o Diabetic testing strips that cost $143.00 To make matters worse, the Pharmacist implied I was lying. Nice, clean grocery store and very nice staff. Hate their express lane because they make you bag your own groceries so sometimes it defeats the purpose and it's actually faster to just wait in the longer lines. Go figure.... That being said, I do love the fact that they're now offering a wide variety of organic foods. Only thing I'll say is the vegetables aren't as fresh as they should be. Hope they work on that, because I buy all organic if possible and have had to opt for the conventionally grown on several occasions because the organic option wasn't fresh. read more
