We finished our evening of drinking Little Five Points with beers and more at the Vortex. This place is pretty darned awesome. This is just a cool spot for tossing back, hanging out and generally chilling. Friendly folks behind the bar and in front. After a massive beer, I wondered what that weird purple drink was and I found out. The Skullcrusher is a lot of booze and we sat next to a 300 pound guy who drank three of them. One was plenty for me as my research reveals that it's at least tequila, vodka, rum, bourbon and topped with sparkling peach wine. Wut? Delicious and powerful, I'm glad we were walking from here. Love the ambiance, but the food was not all that great. I love onion rings so I ordered the onion rings as my side but it was way too oily and more breading vs the onions. Wasn't my fav. The waiter guy was super friendly and it was nice to see my friend so I did have a good time overall. Maybe I'll try something else next time. read more

Wow, I haven't been to Vortex in years, and it has not changed which is good! We went on a late Sunday night and had a large party and a long wait due to parties not wanting to leave from their tables. Definitely appreciate the staff encouraging the seat huggers to get their check and continue the fun someplace else. This is a 21 and older establishment and my niece turned 21 and has been wanting to dine here since she moved to ATL so this is where we celebrated her birthday. She is also a huge burger lover! Everyone in the party enjoyed their meal, had a good time, liked their drinks and the server was fantastic!   If this is your first time make sure you take time to read the menu, it's amusing! Essentially the Little 5 Points location is a dive bar serving up good food. If you have a large party, you will be placed in the screened in upstairs patio, I personally prefer to go with a smaller group if you want to enjoy the cool pics and art inside and people watch. If you sit at the bar you will probably hear some pretty interesting stories.   This was back in early December so I can't remember what everyone ordered, I enjoyed the pickle spears of love $8.95, cheese balls o glory 9.95 (no I did not eat all of this by myself, the table shared appetizers J). Scrumptious, you can't go wrong with fried food, make sure to ask for extra ranch dressing. I had the Pickle Rick burger $13.50 (fried pickles, whiskey pimento cheese, and house Szechuan sauce), no bacon since I don't eat meat and had it with an impossible burger which had a sur charge of $4.50. Sat at the bar as I often do. Reminds you of Cheers the pub style is great with pictures and signage. And Miss Shelby's service was better than great plus she was a splendid tender of the bar! Had a few drinks and she obliged me with pouring my straight bourbon in my EDC wooden cup. I appreciate her for that. The cheese curds were simply amazing. As an Atlanta native, I don't think I'll be returning here. From the moment my two friends (both Black men) and I (a Black woman) walked in, we felt targeted and unwelcome. We were the only Black patrons in the restaurant, and based on how we were treated compared to others, it's hard not to question the underlying issue. We walked in proudly wearing our University of Florida Gators shirts, celebrating their NCAA Men's Basketball Championship win the night before. We only came for a quick celebratory shot--nothing more. There were bar stools tucked under the counter--clearly signaling that they weren't available--so we didn't try to sit. I pulled out my phone to scan the QR code near the bar, and before we were greeted or asked what we needed, the bartender immediately said, "Guys, you can't sit there." We hadn't even attempted to sit--just reading the menu. After I explained that, he finally handed us a cocktail menu. We ordered shots and then decided to sit at a table near the hostess stand. Instead of guiding us or offering help, the hostess just said, "That's reserved," with no further direction. We asked if there was outdoor seating, and she vaguely pointed to the back door. We stepped outside and were unsure where to go until other customers kindly told us we could head upstairs and sit anywhere. We chose the closest open table to take our shots and were seated for about 10 minutes. As we were getting ready to leave, the hostess came upstairs--this time walking another party up and checking on them (none of that effort was made for us). Then she approached us and said, "This table is reserved for parties of 6 or more." Mind you, it was 5:30 on a Tuesday and the place was far from full. If seating was restricted, why wasn't that explained up front? Why didn't the hostess do what any hostess should--help us find appropriate seating? The lack of basic courtesy, hospitality, and consistency--combined with us being the only Black patrons--made the entire experience feel discriminatory. read more

Vibe: The entrance is pretty whacky looking with the skull theme. Even the indoors have some neat unique stuff hung up. Like the skeleton biker. Food: They've got unique themed burgers. I got the Pickle Rick, coz I'm a Rick and Morty fan, plus the description sounded good. Cheese and fried pickles, bacon and patty. It was delicious. You can park in the strip mall next door for $10. There is a guy to take the money. Convenient but annoying to have to pay $10 The place is also small. April 13, at 22:15, we stepped into Vortex. Coming in, the place was packed and we were told to sit at the bar if we wanted while we wait for a table. Not a problem, as long as we got a table. We were told we could order food and drink, but just to close out the tab once our table was ready. We ordered 1 drink and 1 appetizer. Once our table was now ready and they told us "oh sorry, you ordered food so you have to stay at the bar". We tried to work it out to still get the table, but we were told no such accommodation could be made. At this point, we asked to cancel our food because of the bad communication. The managers on duty denied our request. Not very accommodating service. Not coming back. Not recommending. Poorly managed. read more

I think the vortex provides a rockstar and upbeat vibe for specific people on a quest to have fun, drink and be judgement free. In addition to the eye-grabbing external masked entrance. The inside is full of photos(some moderately explicit), vintage license plates, beer cans and taxidermy Coyotes. The waitresses are kind and free spirited exuding rockstar vibes, painted faces and gothic love. This is not a place I would bring my children but moreso link with friends and family. (By family I mean cousins, not parents lol) the ambience is judge free with a metal soundtrack. Food: The options were wide spread for sure. The food is fresh and made to order. I ordered a CLASSIC BYPASS burger with tater tots. My date ordered ATL CHOPPED CHEESE. We both agreed that although the toppings for both of our entrees were fresh we wished they would have seasoned the meat more. This alone is what made us be like.. "eh.. it's just another burger place". We could taste the "plain beef" taste when eating. BUT the diverse and extensive menu along with ambiance will make you choose this place over another. Customer service: VERY nice waitress. Some people were bothered the waitress didn't have on a bra but I didn't notice and again this is a place for a carefree crowd. Vibe/atmosphere: nice, loud, welcoming Cleanliness: I didn't use the restroom but the table and condiments were very clean. Parking: the parking... a headache. The actual space for parking at vortex is VERY minimal. Maybe 10-15 spaces alongside the building. With Vortex's heavy crowd, most people are forced to park in the shopping mall right next to it which is monitored and comes with a $15 fee. They give you a ticket to put in your car or it gets towed. The small parking alongside vortex is free for vortex customers but good luck trying to get one. I was lucky enough to get the last spot left but if I had to pay $15 I don't feel like the experience would've been worth it. *also note our wait time was VERY short and it was busy. Probably 5 minutes maximum for a table of two. That was nice.* *the prices are GREAT for the amount of food you get. The portions are big* *I won't return but I think it's more of a personality thing then a "bad place" thing. We all have preferences. Service is absolutely horrible. I was told that I can sit at the bar and order drinks/food while I wait for a table. My table was ready and I hadn't received my one appetizer that I had ordered. Management told me I had to stay at the bar now and that I lost my table. How easy was it to accommodate me? Extremely. Just have the server send my appetizer to the table. And this is coming from someone who has zero experience managing a restaurant. It's probably because it's kind of common sense. But the least of their priorities is customer service and more of a "force them to sit at the bar now so that we can free up a table" attitude. Let me remind you that I was told by YOUR employee (hostess) that I was allowed to do this. She just shrugged her shoulders. I tried cancelling the appetizer I ordered because at this point I did not want to contribute any of my time or money on a place that makes me feel not cared for. They told me that it was too late to cancel and that I had to pay for it. For future reference...treat your business as if someone is visiting your home. Such terrible hospitality. Never have I been treated this way in a restaurant. Would never even think of coming again. read more

This has always been a solid place. Me and my buddies popped in here on our way to a concert at Variety Playhouse. I will say that it took a while to get served, but I really can't blame them because it was dinner hour and super busy! My burger was good, the beer was cold and the waitress was friendly. I definitely recommend stopping by this place if you are around the Little Five Points area! They are known for their burgers but they definitely have other good stuff on the menu! They are nothing fancy but they have great greasy bar food! The prices run about average for what you would expect from a good beer and burger joint these days. This is one of two locations for the Vortex. I got the zombie apocalypse burger, which is a burger between two pieces of toast with an egg and drizzled with barbeque sauce. It was pretty good. I wouldn't say amazing or anything out of this world. It was what you'd expect from a barbeque burger. The tots were okay as well. Maybe I'm being a bit critical here. It's a decent place with food for a decent price. I will say though I would definitely like to try their coronary bypass burger. read more

The Vortex never disappoints if you're in the mood for burgers. I hadn't been in a long time so I forgot it was like a real bar and they check id upon entering. Service started out a little slow, but they got it together. I forgot what burger I had, but the beer and tater tots accompanied it well.
