Very nice people working here. I went in for an oil change it only cost me 20 dollars! (including tax,labor,everything!) I don't know if you can get a better deal anywhere else. My dad has been coming here for years (seriously, close to 6-7 years now I think) and when I got my car, he recommended this place to me. As everyone says, this place is very honest and fair. I have a 99 Mazda 626 so it requires a bit of maintenance. Every time I've brought my car here it has been very fair pricing. Oil change for around 12-15$? I'll take it! They repair brake pads at very fair prices as well, according to my dad around 130$ for brake pads. I don't know dealer pricing, but for me, that seems pretty good. You can tow your car here anytime. I once towed my car here at like 10P on a Saturday. We wrote a note and taped the car key to the note and put it in their mail slot. They gave my dad a call Monday morning (so it sat on their lot over night + Sunday) and said they'll take a look at it. They honestly told my dad about the problem and told him how many days it would take to get the parts and stuff. I brought in my car recently due to a fuel pump issue. After 3-4 days, I received a call and they said they were unable to do anything about it. Jeff suggested I take it to the Mazda dealer. I must say, it was easier to deal with this place than the actual dealer. However, because of the unbelievably fair and honest pricing they have, they are a popular place. They open early so stop by early! If you come later in the day, expect a wait on even the simplest of services. They can fit four cars into their garage at time and they're always busy with customers because of their reputation. If it's your first time here and you get discouraged by the wait, don't be! Jeff is an honest guy and they'll do great work on your JAPANESE car (yeah like everyone says, they specialize in Japanese cars). They are the most honest Japanese car only mechanics I have ever encountered. They never suggest things that aren't necessary, and are spot on efficient and good at what they do. Their prices are realistic and reasonable. They also do oil changes for less than $20. Because they are just so good, however, the lines can be long, very long especially on a Saturday morning (they close at noon Saturday). I was skeptical to bring my car into this place at first, when recommended by a friend. I generally go to a dealership to ensure that any work i need done gets done. To my surprise the guys here were awesome. So every few years my s2000 will have the same problem with it and needs to be adjusted. These guys did the job, amazingly fast and charged me less than half of what a dealership would. i didn't have to sign a ton of paperwork, or sit around forever. They were on top of everything the whole time and now my car has never run better. I find it hard to actually find a auto shop that is trust worthy, but I finally did. I called in once to get a tire rotation done and they told me that if I got my tires from costco that they do it for free. I was astonished at how honest they were especially since I was willing to come in and pay for their service, yet they saved me money by telling me somewhere else I could get it done for free. I have been introduced to Vtech a few years back. I have been taking my cars there when needed because I felt that they are reasonable and they don't try to push you to do unnecessary repairs. Yesterday was the only time I had an issue with them. Jeff called to give me an estimate of $550 to do the repairs. When I picked up the car, he made me pay $568.96+tax. I questioned him about the subtotal & he said, "oh, we were busy and didn't call you for the addition charge". No apology or anything. The difference was not much but it wasn't what we had discussed and I didn't appreciate his reply. Not good business! Other than that, his workers did a good job. read more

My friend recommended Vtec Auto Repair when I asked him where I could find an honest mechanic. I bought my Civic in 2003 and used them almost from the very beginning but I haven't been there in about a year because I moved farther away. Their oil changes used to be $16.99 and when they did the oil change they would also take a look at the tires, fill up the fluids, and check the brakes. At other shops it could cost $40.00 and up. I would always know in advance when something needed to be taken care of and I've never had any problems with my car. So I've been taking my car to a shop closer by my work and I thought they provided the same services when they did an oil change. However, recently my car's made a grinding sound occasionally when I brake. I took it to get checked and I only had 5-10% of my front brake pads left. You can't beat the value of the oil change and they are definitely honest. They've never claimed that anything outside the ordinary was wrong with my car. I will probably try and start going back again. read more

I always appreciate good honest business owners. I feel like the guys at Vtec Auto Repair are just that. Not only do they take the time to explain what services are being performed on your car, but they also make sure that everything works with your time and budget. While their shop is not the like some luxury dealers in the OC, they are honest, affordable and extremely knowledgeable about Hondas, Acuras, Toyotas and Lexuses. I liked that if these guys find something wrong, they'll just give you a FYI kind of attitude, and not scare you into fixing it, unless it's urgent. Been going here for over 2 years now & still as satisfied as I could be. Went in on Saturday to get the front brakes done, got there at 7.40 & there were already 4 or 5 people ahead of me so they're mega busy as always. However it looks like they've taken on another 3 bays in the premises opposite now so that's 6 bays instead of 3. Brakes & oil change done in 1.5 hrs so I was happy. Only negative thing about this place is the waiting room is a bit spartan (no water/coffee) and there's not much to do nearby if you're stuck there waiting for your car to be fixed. There are at least some shops/places to eat down Rockfield Blvd though. This is meant as an FYI. not a gripe (I go to get my car fixed, not for a spa treatment). read more

I came here a couple of days ago for an oil change. I came in at about 10:20am and drove off at around 10:45. I have a 2004 Honda Accord, so the oil change only cost me $20. The whole process was super quick and easy :) I've heard that the place gets really busy later on in the day, around 2pm and later. I've been coming here for 3 years. There's no way I am going anywhere else. Honest, affordable, fast. These are qualities that lack in 90% of other auto shops. I got ripped off when I was young, and that feels sick. I wanted to cancel their service, but they were old and slick and look like they were going to smack you with a crow bar if you said you didn't want their service anymore. I also read a review where they said this place checks your fluids etc and to my surprise they did. Came in with my tire light on on my Scion and needing an oil change. Should have asked for a price quote, but I'd read on here that they were reasonably priced so I didn't think to. I came in, they took care of it right away, and 40 minutes later, for a grand total of $20!!! they had inspected my tires, fixed the problem (tire pressure too low) AND changed my oil! So far I have had two visits to Vtec. One being a brake pad replacement and the other an oil change all for my 2007 CR-V. I usually show up before work.. around 9 ish.. for the oil change, it wasn't TOO busy, granted there were a few other people waiting. But it only took about 30 minutes! The brake pads were estimated to be longer... after lunch. This was expected. They were right on time. Knock on wood, nothing bad to say.. will update if anything goes wrong. This place was great! I just moved up here to the OC and was looking for an honest mechanic. After doing some searching and Yelp and other similar sites I found this place. Jeff and his crew were very helpful. I test drove my car for one of them to let them hear first hand what my problem was. After lifting my car, they called me into the garage and showed me that my wheel bearing was done. Jeff then gave me a free estimate of parts and labor along with a worse case scenario if they had to replace the entire hub as well. I then thought to myself they can easily say the hub was bad and totally charge me for it when nothing was wrong. Well after further inspection they took the hub of the axle showed me what was wrong with it. I wasn't happy that I had to shell out more money to replace it, but was glad they were honest about it. All in all, they did a good job, plus they use genuine parts from you cars manufacturer! The prices are good as well. If you're hungry they'll also offer you some donuts =D Definitely taking my car as well as my girlfriend's car here. read more

It's hard finding a mechanic you can trust but I think I've found them. My boyfriend first discovered them and he liked their service. Since then, I've brought my car for oil changes, for a transmission pan gasket leak, and a starter replacement. They are honest about how much it'll cost (I've looked up prices on the internet to compare) and they will get things done when they say they will. My transmission pan gasket leak repair cost about $107 total, and the starter replacement for my corolla cost $305 total. And oil changes are only $17! You do have to come early on Saturdays because there are always a bunch of people getting their cars serviced as well. It's a good idea to call ahead and schedule a day and time to drop your car off because then they know you're coming and they can fit you in. Overall, super service and honest mechanics. These people are so honest and nice. They also give me the best prices. I would suggest calling ahead and making an appointment because a lot of times when I go, they seem really busy. I noticed their business was doing well since they've expanded to the garage across from theirs. I would recommend them for Hondas and Toyotas. I've been bringing my Lexus there since I moved to Irvine and I will continue to while I live in the area! I don't know much about cars, but whenever I do come here, I don't feel like they try to sell me things I don't need. They're always so honest about what needs to be fixed and what can wait (whereas at other places, I feel like the just tell me I SHOULD have something fixed). Background I moved from NYC to SoCal in 2001, and never really bothered looking for a trustworthy mechanic. Back in NY, I used these guys named Jack and Tony.. They were also Chinese, but spoke Cantonese. Jimmy and Jeff are just like them, except they speak Mandarin. Culture Here's the thing, their "western" mannerisms may not be there, they probably haven't read a single sentence from Emily Post, they're not here to be your friend or to buddy buddy with you. They will listen to what your problem is, fix it and get you on your way, at a reasonable price. My Experience My neighbor actually recommended them, so I decided to make the additional 10 mile drive (each way) to these guys. I had two vehicles that needed service. One that definitely needed either brakes, rotor resurfacing or both. The second required an oil change and "possibly" replacement struts as recommended by another shop. I decided to take the sure thing in first, the vehicle that needed new brakes. They looked at it, and said the brake pads were still at 70%, but the rotors are warped. The pads were actually aftermarkets and tend to be more "abusive" to the rotors. Abusive is my term, I think Jimmy said hard. He said they could just resurface the rotors, and that should work. I asked how much for the Toyota factory pads and resurface. I thought the price was more than reasonable, and had them do it. The odd thing is, I THOUGHT the last time I did the front brakes, it was at the dealership?!? But I may be wrong. It was just over $200 out the door, compared to my previous front brake job at the dealership for $515!!! I liked the vibe I got from these guys, so the next day, I brought in my other car. Changed the oil and inspected the strut.. Strut had a little leakage, other than that, nothing to worry about!! The other shop wanted to replace the strut for $1K! I've now gone to Vtec Auto Repair twice and both times rank among the best experiences I've ever had with an auto mechanic. The first time I dropped in without an appointment for an oil change. They told me it would be an hour and sure enough my car was ready an hour later. The waiting area had a few chairs and an air conditioning unit, but it was a bit weak for the full fury of SoCal summer heat. I forgot how much I paid, but it was under $20 which is a fair price. The second time I made an appointment to get my Check Engine light looked at. Showed up on time and they immediately took my car to the back to be serviced. After waiting for about 10 minutes, they told me it was fixed. Apparently it was only a minor issue because they sent me along without charging me a dime! With the horrible reputation that auto mechanics have for ripping off customers, I feel that this shop stands out by looking out for their customers and charging a fair price for services performed. A few extra notes: - Bring a book or some work to do. They don't have wi-fi like some larger chains and there's not much to do while they fix your car. - I have a 2005 Toyota Camry and they haven't had any problems fixing it so far - They seem to be busy a lot, not sure when the best time of day to go would be read more

Seems a nice enough place, dropped off my car for an oil change, the price is now 10 for the filter, 10 for the oil and 7 for labor. A little higher than expected for the change compared to past reviews but prices do go up. Scheduled a rear brake pad change for to tomorrow for a quoted price of 140 on an Infiniti sedan. We'll see how that goes. Service was great, but as others said they are BUSY on Saturday mornings. Charged what they said they would and even worked in my wife's car for an oil change. This was my first time coming to Vtech, but I know many other people who come here all the time. My car had a broken motor mount. I had gone to both my Honda dealer and another mechanic. Honda told me $300 and the other mechanic told me that I had two broken and it would be over $500. I went to Vtech, and they were very honest. They told me that I only had one motor mount broken. The other was was weakened, but with the new one, the other one would still last a very long time. They originally gave me a estimate of $130. I got back to the shop to pick up my car and it was only $97 for work and the part! They're honest and very considerate! I am happy that I found them. We've been getting our car serviced with vtec for over 10 years. I hadn't been in a while because we recently purchased a new car where the first 25,000 miles maintenance is covered. I called this morning and spoke with an unfamiliar voice quoting me $70 for an oil change which is not the usual $20 that they charged me in the past. I always speak to Jimmy or Jeff. Does anyone know if the owners changed and if so when? I'm thinking for that kind of money it might be better to take to the dealer. read more

I used to get my 2008 Civic oil changes at the Fladeboe dealership for $40. My roommate recommended Vtec so I decided to give it a try. not only was the price $15, they finished the job in under ten minutes! Not much else to say...amazing service from these guys.
