VTech is our go to shop for oil change. The price is very reasonable. They make charge a little bit more if you pay via credit card. Though mechanic shop is usually known to be a little bit shady, but VTech is quite the opposite. One of the staff, Jeff, told us our Avalon radiator should be replaced soon. We took it to our usual mechanics, and VOILA, it was an inch away from leaking. Though they see the urgency of it, VTech simply advised us the condition and didn't push and sell the service. It used to be a reliable Car shop. However, I visited it recently and found it was crowded and the service quality dropped a lot. The price charged in the past was fair but now more greedy. I got charged $30 for oil change when I brought my own purchased oil. After waited more than one hour, they finished the oil change and only found they didn't use the oil I provided. I found VTEC Auto on Yelp, and went with peoples' recommendations, & they're all true. Twice now I've gone in for standard oil changes (cheap - $15-18 I think), and expressed concern over ticking noises or 'xyz' about my car (2003 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ). Both times they've checked it out and told me nothing major was wrong, "just little this or that which we'll fix for no charge!" VTEC is extremely honest, and they're very nice guys (I even forgot something & they had it saved for me when I came back asking for it). And, as far as my experience has gone, they are very proficient at what they do. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for an honest mechanic who knows what they're doing. read more

I've never had luck with auto repair shops. The "Santa Ana Honda dealership" General Manager tried to rip me off for $100 for an AC inspection which is insane b/c his website was offering a free AC inspection. They were even sending mailers that stated free AC inspection at the time. "Car Tech" off Bake and Irvine Center Drive, overcharged me for service when my car was towed in. I was in a bind w/o a car so I paid the amount and moved on. Since then i've used youtube to do my own repairs with the help of my buddy who let me borrow all of his tools and provided guidance. Brake fluid, brakes, transmission fluid, rotors, spark plugs. I saved a ton of money but it takes up a few weekends. I was hesitant to check out Vtec, but i've heard good things about them from completely unrelated sources. My 30 year old friends, my 60 year old mom, and my 33 year old coworker who used to be a mechanic at the shop next to Vtec... all had good things to say about Vtec. I dropped my car off this morning and within an hour, I received a call back with information on what needed to be done and what I didn't need to worry about. The list of work he described was shorter than the list of work from my previous mechanic...AND the quote was lower. When I asked about the oil leak, he told me specifically where it was coming from and advised me honestly w/o trying to make a greedy up-sale. He's earned a new customer. Side note: They say they open at 7:30am but I arrived at 7:28 and their doors were already open. Two people were ahead of me. So get there early. read more

Overcharged for replacing an AC Compressor Clutch Relay today. The mechanic did a 20 minutes diagnostic. Simply just unplug and plug in and I was charged $120. Called other two auto repair shops and all of them charge at around $60. One repair shop even asked me to go to a Honda dealer directly to buy the part and he would only charge me $5 to $10 to put it on. read more

I have been going to this place for years. They are fast and inexpensive. They service Toyota, Lexus, Honda, and Acura mainly. They do use compatible parts to keep the repair cost down. However, if things aren't working right with the compatible parts, they strive to correct the situation. I've been going to this shop for years and have suggested them to many of my friends, but unfortunately they let me down badly. Someone has stolen my Visa gift card's information from the center console of my car and used it in a restaurant the day after. I had that card for 6 months and was so unlucky to put in my car the exact same day before I leave home for the oil change. Today, I tired to use the gift card, but noticed only $3 was left out of $100. I'm %100 sure someone in that shop has used it as they're the only one who had access to my car since. I tried to contact them, but they were not only helpful, but also very rude. I have been with them for 15 years, they specialize in Japanese cars and always use the genuine part when I took in for service. The reason I choose them is b/c they are honest and reasonably priced. If my break still has a little bit left, they would tell me to come back in 2-3 months instead of talk me to get it replace on the spot. Cost of oil change is always under $20 and those big service cost 30% cheaper compare with what dealer charge me. I would call ahead to make appointment if I am taking it in for service on Saturdays, since they only open half day and it's usually packed. read more

Blew a head gasket...2005 Honda Element. Was quoted 1500.00... however as we all know head gaskets are a symptom of something greater. They tore the engine down, machined the heads, fixed the valves, new seals and gaskets.... additionally the cap for my power steering reservoir blew off and was lost when the engine blew...they replaced it without question. Have had the car three days now runs great so far...very optimistic...I would recommend. Total cost was a little over $ 1500.00. Very happy. read more

The workers here are trustworthy. This is a huge requirement that I have for auto repair shops. There's also a nice, quiet seating area for those waiting for their cars. I am taking one star off because it's hard to communicate with the owner in any language other than Chinese. Also, this is not a one-stop-shop and does not offer many services. Toyota dealer quoted my car for repairing engine water pump, CV boots and front break with total cost 21xx USD. However, Vtec Auto only charged 7xx USD that is almost one third of the cost from Toyota dealer. Especailly, they can finish their job within 4 hours. it is pretty effective. I've been to Vtec for oil changes, brake pad replacements, and some other service items that needed attention. I've always been promptly greeted and had my vehicle assessed in a timely manner. Like other auto repair/tire shops, the better they are the earlier you need to get there. It pays to get there early. The key factor in earning my repeat business is that I never feel like I'm being sold something my vehicle doesn't absolutely need. There have been times where I was told something was wrong or needed analysis at another shop, but it was quickly diffused as a non-issue at Vtec. Another huge plus is that I've called in with service issues to get an idea of what the costs might be and Jimmy trouble-shooted the problem over the phone and had me back on the road at NO COST. Let me get this out of the way. I am very skeptical when it comes to auto repair shops. I have been burned numerous times by repair shops, namely: Jiffy Lube, Golden Wrench and multiple Nissan dealers in the area. I have been double charged for labor, sold parts I didn't need, and been lied to straight to my face. Where these places go wrong, Vtec goes so right. The owners are incredibly knowledgeable and actually have the chops to back it up (Automotive Engineering degrees! When's the last time you met a mechanic with an engineering degree?) Anyway, I brought my car in for the dreaded "Check Engine" light and I was expecting the worst. The guys looked at it immediately while I waited and just found that the car was burning a bit of oil and it was low. I was out of there for $19 with an oil change and the light turned off. (Phew). Since then I have been back a few times and have always received that same amazing service. Bottom line - This is the BEST mechanic in the area and I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who has a Japanese car. To everyone else, I would tell them to go buy a Japanese car and let Vtec handle the repairs. read more

Took my Honda Odyssey in to figure out what this noise was turns out it was my catalytic converter. Mr.Dang diagnosed it correctly and lessoned the noise. Mr. Jeff told me if I wanted it completely gone then it would be a K. He said it wasn't worth it. In other words the shop is looking out for your best interest. Whenever I get too lazy to change my oil myself, I go here to get it done. Of course I'd always rather change my oil by myself, but 17 bucks for one is decent in this area. The owners are very nice and easy to deal with, and the service doesn't take too long. They specialize in Honda and Toyota, and they treat my Toyota very well. They even use OEM Toyota oil filters. Wished I found Vtec earlier. The dealer quoted $2000. to change out the CAT converters(both) on my 2005 Toyota Sienna with 135,000 miles. Decided against that and brought it to Vtech. Confirmed that the CAT converters needed to be replaced. Vtech did the job and saved me about $500. read more

I have been loyal to this auto repair shop for 4 years and have numerous oil changes done to my cars. Both Jeff and Jim are very honest and only charge you what your car needs. The reason why I didn't give them 5 stars is because of the break service that I just did for my car. I changed my car break about 4000 miles ago and now it starts to make squeaky sounds every time I break. I will have to go back and see what they say but my experiences for the last 4 years have been great. Edit: Went back and explained to them the issue I was having. Right the way Jeff took care of my problem and confirmed that another car was having similar issue. He mentioned something wrong with the Toyota break pad that they ordered and agreed to replace it for free. It has been 2 months since I replaced the break pad with a better one (cost $19.99 additional) and so far so good :0). Thanks Vtec... I've been going to this place to service my car since 2009. These guys are pretty much what all mechanics should be, honest, professional and affordable. I've mainly gone in for oil changes and not only do they use genuine Honda parts but they charge less than half of what the dealership charged me. My last service there was a major 60,000 mile service and also included front break replacement, it ended up being lot less than what the dealership would have charged. I am extremely happy with these guys and would highly recommend them! The only draw back to them being so good is that they are usually busy so get there early!! read more

I have only gotten my oil changed here but they were extremely helpful. They went above and beyond by filling up the air in my tires. They were are quick and nice. Not exspensive, brought my own oil and they charged 13$ to change my oil out and install a new filter. read more

To be completely honest, my capability with my car is limited to gassing it, washing it, and driving it. Needless to say the chances of me getting swindled by a mechanic to do unnecessary and costly crap to my car is pretty high. Too many times have I been scolded by my car-aficionado brother for allowing the dealer to overcharge me for both required and unnecessary maintenance to my car. After my vehicle-savvy friend recommended VTec to me, I haven't taken my new car anywhere else. Every time I bring my car in for scheduled maintenance (15K miles, 20K miles, etc.) the work summary I get back corresponds to exactly what was needed (tire rotation, check fluid levels, blah blah blah). One time I brought my old car to the dealer and they charged me almost $2,000 to change my brakes, when they didn't need to be changed--all without telling me! The guys at VTec are nice and explain what needs to be done. If they come across additional work they hadn't anticipated, they always call me to get my permission to do the work first and even give me a cost estimate. I've never felt like I've been ripped off here and they're always prompt in opening and getting my car back to me in time. Their waiting area isn't luxurious and I'm not sure if they have Wi-Fi, but Albatros is so close by you have no reason to wait there anyway. read more

Brought our Honda Civic in here for a check engine light. My mom recommend this place. She was recommended by her friend who's brother is one of the owners there. Pulled my car in and using there diagnostic code it read the engine light as "cylinder 1&2 misfiring" He asked me if the cars been running rough. I said yes. He said he needs some time to get a quote. I called my wife and she picked me up. I also told the guy to change the oil also. Three hours later he calls and said I need new spark plug wires and new spark plugs. Total estimate $170. The wires were $75, plugs $12, and $75 for labor. I thought it was fair. Did a quick froogle search for wires and they run from $60-90 online. Told him to go ahead and fix it and also to change the oil. He says pick up at 4:30. Surprised by how fast they work. Didn't expect to pick up on the same day. Called me again at 4:15 and said car is ready. Showed up for the car. The guy showed me the bill for $169 and I asked did you do the oil change? The guy says no. I said I told the other guy to change the oil also twice. The guy said they don't have time to do another oil change. Come back tomorrow. I thought that was too much of a hassle. He went inside and asked the other guy and the other guys said he did change the oil..hmmmm makes me wonder, how do you tell if they changed the oil or not? we didn't even get the oil change sticker on our windshield and had to request. they charged another $17 for the oil change. I called my mom afterwards and she still vouches for them.. i don't know.. I'll wait and see how the car is. Oh yeah they're chinese so if you have chinese speaking only parents with car problems.. perfect UPDATE: brought my civic back a couple more times for oil changes... 30-45 minute wait.. owners are pleasant to deal with... adding one more star.. read more

I bring my car here for repair, maintenance, oil change, etc. I love that they're honest and that they don't try to cheat you. The prices are really affordable and its something I can manage. If they discover a problem, they bring me out to talk to a technician before they make the repair. The staff there are really nice and helpful in making suggestions since I'm not that car savy I'd like my car to last a long time. My only wish is that they accept appointments rather than having a first-come, first -serve. It would shorten the long wait time. I guess its worth it though if I get good service? read more

Vtec is a great auto shop. Honest people, and super cheap. As the other reviewers have said, it only costs about $20 for an oil change with OEM Toyota filters. (Jimmy actually showed me the old dirty filter too). They also have electronic records, which helps for keeping good car service records. read more
