I have a 2005 Honda Insight. The odometer and the tripometers were not working. The "Maint Required" light was also on. I was told by another Honda mechanic that I needed to take it to the dealer and have a computer module replaced. I took it to the gentlemen at Vtec and I was prepared to spend a lot of money to get this fixed. It turns out that there was nothing wrong with my car and that the other mechanic simply did not know how to properly reset the "Maint Required" light. They had me drive away WITHOUT PAYING ANYTHING. Good service, decent prices, but they don't check their work. I had a door handle replaced here today based on all the good reviews (even randomly met a friend here who said they were good too). I came back in half an hour and they had just finished up. When I tried to unlock the door using the buttons on the side, the locks wouldn't budge. I told them and they immediately checked it out. Turns out they just needed to start the car for a minute to get power working again - but this is a mistake they should have caught in the first place. Anyway, the owner Jimmy was friendly, nice, and honest. Just make sure that you check up on their work if possible. One star off for that mistake. read more

I was on my way to take my mom from rehab center to a dialysis center, unfortunately my car won't start, lights lit up but it just won't start. I called roadside assistance and he told me it could be the starter. After I've made arrangements to get my mom to dialysis I immediately called Vtec and told them I need it to be fixed, since I need to pick up mom after 3 hrs. Jesse said he needs to see it first to make sure if it really was the starter and he has to order the parts. He said they are closing at 5:00 pm, it was almost 4:00 when I got there. Jesse got on the phone and ordered the parts, had a mechanic take care of it. Before 5:00 pm, I was already driving away from there. It cost me more than what I expected but the part was from Mitsubishi itself and the most important part I can pick up mom from dialysis. read more

Simply put, I love this place. This is the place to go if you need an oil change for your car. They specialize in Honda, Acura, Toyota, and Lexus. No need to make an appointment, it's first come first serve. I suggest going during the weekday because they do get quite busy on weekends. They are efficient, straight to the point, and really nice! I know nothing about cars so when I needed my first oil change, I wanted to go somewhere with reasonable prices and excellent service. Thank the Lord I found this place on Yelp. They don't try to add more services when you're there: if you say no, they politely oblige. I tell EVERYONE about this place. I go there to also check basic car stuff: tire rotations, brake checks, etc... Oil changes range from $20-$43, depending on what type of oil you want for your car. Good hourly rates, quick turn around, and honest. Brought in a 2000 Accord with a check engine light and squeaky brakes. Car was ready in less than 24 hours, and they waived the diagnostic fee for the engine test because the car's on-board electronics reported no fault. Been coming here for years. Oil changes are the best deal, but I do all my maintenance at Vtec. Jeff and Jimmy are very professional and honest. They don't do appointments, so it's first come, first serve, so be sure to go as early as you can. There used to be a long wait time in the mornings, but ever since they expanded across the way, service has become super quick and efficient. Great service. Very nice people. So much better than any dealer. I don't know why people still go elsewhere. Costs are very reasonable and they usually take care of your car relatively quickly. And just like the dealer they have all your information in the computer system so you don't have to remember when you had all your services done. read more

I have been using Vtec for my auto repairs since they opened; sorry, but I've lost track of how many years ago that was its been so long ago now. Back then I was single and getting my car serviced was always a problem with no one to pick me up and drop me off. They actually gave me a ride back to my place of work in Newport Beach and picked me up when my car was ready! Talk about service oriented. They saved me money over and over again in those early years when other mechanics would tell me I needed something and they would check it and show me how that wasn't the problem. They proven themselves to be honest, fair priced and thorough to the point I sing their praises to everyone who will listen. As a single woman for 31 years, I've been taken to the cleaners by car mechanics more times than I care to think about, but no more. It's such a pleasure to drop off my car and know it will receive top-notch service that is genuinely needed and won't be over-charged for the work. I love these guys!! read more

These are the first honest auto repair people I've found. I skipped out on my last 'free' maintenance at the auto dealership for my new car because I was tired of their BS. The AutoNation toyota dealership told me during my 2nd maintenance at 10,000 miles that my car was due for 'brake rotation' and that my brakes were almost gone. Ummm.... WHAT THE HELL IS A BRAKE ROTATION at 10,000 MILES?!?!? The service guy had a very awkward time explaining that to me. He said it makes the brakes wear out less quickly. Personally this is the first I've heard of 'brake rotation', especially when my car is new. The 3rd time I brought my car in for maintenance at 15,000 miles the service guy told me my brakes were at 80% and I don't need to worry. Go figure, my awesome brakes actually wear out in reverse! The 4th time they told me my tires are starting to wear out at 20,000 miles and would need replacing soon. Yes I drive my corolla on dirt roads, but not that many! So after these experiences I had enough and went to Vtec Auto Repair and what a relief to find honest repair people! They told me that my tires were actually at 80% at 25,000 miles and I laughed out loud. Apparently my tires wear out in reverse too. Yea, I can't take AutoNation Toyota seriously anymore. They must have some magical calculator or ruler or I must look like an easy mark or something because it's amazing the kind of stuff the dealership tries to tell me. If you're like me and dealership service centers see you as an easy mark due to your youth or gender or both or maybe you just have a stupid looking face, come here to vtec and don't deal with the dealership BS anymore : ) read more

Althought I didn't end up using their service but they are the most honest mechanics out there. everytime I walk into an auto shop I expect to get scammed. I owned a TL and took the car in to see what was wrong with it. The guy took the car for a test drive and told me it's the transmission. By hearing the transmission was wrong I knew it was going to cost alot of money. The guy then perform diagnostic tests on the car and confirmed it was the tranmission. Instead of telling me to leave the car to have them fix it for couple thousands, he said although the car is out of warranty but it has low miles that I should take it to the dealership and have them call Honda Corp. to see if they would still cover it. If Honda won't cover then I can take the car back to them to fix for at least couple thousands. Luckily I followed what he told me to do and Honda did covered 75%. What an honest, nice guy. What can I say that others have not already mentioned? I feel like these guys are the elusive honest mechanics that are so few and far between these days. I have two Hondas that get serviced here and I wouldn't have it any other way. I get there first thing in the morning and their crew is always ready. The two guys who run it, Jimmy and Jeff, are really good with customer service and let everybody know what their car needs. Most importantly, they don't pressure you to make a decision right away. They seem like they genuinely care about your best interest. I have had my oil changes (both engine and trans) here for the past 2 years, the biggest job being an Oxygen Sensor for one of my Hondas. The service is always quick and thorough, with a multi-point inspection which they report to you at the conclusion. They tell you how much of your brakes and what other recommended service are upcoming. Do be aware that they get really busy really quickly, but they still manage to have me in and out for an oil change in about 30 minutes. Then, I drive over to America's Tires on the next street over and have my tires rotated (every 5,000 Miles so same interval). It's kind of silly but I am actually looking forward to having them service the timing belt and water pump soon! read more

This was my first visit to Vtec. A couple of my coworkers and friends had good experience with Vtec and I decided to try it after going through the reviews on Yelp. I reached their premise at 7:30 am and was promptly attended to. My concerns were noted down (Oil change, tyre rotation, vibration in the steering wheel, excessive noise at higher speed, replacing a turn indicator). After about 30 mins, They had diagnosed the problem with the noise to a possibly faulty bearing on one of the rear wheels. So they removed the tyres for rotation and noted that upon removing the tyres, the noise in the wheel disappeared. The inspected the tyres and noticed serious "cupping" on one of the tyres and wearing in other tyres requiring replacement. They suggested that I change the tyres, have it balanced and aligned and that should correct the problem. They also mentioned that my battery was weak. I went to costco, had the tyres replaced and replaced the battery by myself. Now the car has no vibration or noise. I am pretty impressed with their work and will surely visit them again. read more
