I got my first car 2 days ago a honda civic 2005 lxi sedan and of course like every new owner needs is a honest and reliable mechanic. So i was searching the net to find a lot of reviews on different auto repair centers. and VTEC AUTO REPAIR caught my attention cause i saw majority 5 stars so i went in today to have my change oil and 27 point inspection that goes with it and i could say that the mechanics and the owner are all very friendly and nice. I know nothing about cars and engines so they could easily have told me that there were a lot of things to change but they were very honest and told me everything is working perfectly and performed the change oil very fast at a VERY VERY reasonable price. They specialize in Hondas & Toyotas & the lines start early so be prepared to drop off. We love these guys. They were recommended by a coworker who, like just about everybody else, loves them and has had great experience with them. Our 2006 Toyota Prius went nuts one evening, the main computer (a warranty item) became defective and falsely indicated that a bunch of stuff needs replacement. Although vTec told us what they believed was wrong, we needed to get the main computer replaced at a Toyota dealership (Power). The dealership handled the fix, but did not look as good as vTec did; it took them a lot longer to reach the correct conclusion. We would have wasted $$ on nonwarranty fixes had we not spoken to vTec first. read more

Vtec Auto Repair is of the most honest, efficient and ethical car repair shops I've ever used in my life. Having gone there for the past 8 years with an 98 and 09 Lexus, I can attest to their superior care and customer service at very low prices. Originally I found them because my wife's car had a head gasket leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold. Lots of smoke. Lexus dealership quoted $850 and I went with Vtec after Jimmy said they would do it for $350. Of course you don't get a loaner or plush waiting room which to me are not worth the extra charge. After my first visit I was hooked and have had nothing but satisfaction since. With our 09, we recently had to fulfill a recall through the dealership and of course they did an inspection and noted the something in the front suspension needed replacing at approx. $1,200. Took the car to Jimmy and his mechanic said that it really didn't need to be done and that they'd watch it. They're the best. read more

One of my friends introduced me to V-tec for oil changes after I had been complaining about how expensive the dealership always charges for them...dealerships also always tell me I need to fix this when they are perfectly fine. Their price is really good here so this is a place I definitely recommend. Their wait can be long especially on weekends but it is worth the wait. Nothing negative about this place. Very honest and accurate. Brought in my acura for new brake pads and oil change, took about 1:15 minutes. Prices are so reasonable, they love what they do. Will never ever go to dealership again, have you every checked their labor cost compared to parts? It's outrageous. V-tech, is pretty even. They were so busy too, that tells your something. Got to give them a five-star rating! Vtec was highly recommended by many of my friends, so I thought of give them a try today. I'm glad I did. Their check up on my car was thorough and Jeff took time to explain to me of what needed to be fixed and what doesn't. He pointed out some minor problems but they are not in urgent to be fixed right now. He even took me inside the workshop to see my car and show me where the problems are. The service time was within 1-2hours, and the report was clearly listed of prices of services and parts, as well as the problems they found. The best of all is the price that I paid was much less than what I expected, and I am very satisfied with the great service that I got. Vtec is my auto shop from now on. read more

I used Vtec for almost 10 years. Jeff and Jimmy have excellent experience and service. Price is reasonable. One time, I tried to fix the windows regulator myself for 3 times (part cracked within one minute each time). They fixed it only 1 time and charged ~$100 labor. The job included to take off the entire door panel, remove the airbag, remove the window regulator and put everything back. That's a lot of work as I tried myself. After that, I know their price is very fair and never check their price after. read more

Finally an honest auto shop! I went to them after reading all their reviews on this site. I had just taken my car to another shop that had basically told me that if I didn't have my entire brake system re-done, my entire family would die in a firey car crash. I can't say enough good things about Vtech in Irvine. Not only do they offer competitive prices and quality work, but their customer service is also impeccable. We've had times when they haven't charged us at all for looking at our car and letting us know there wasn't a problem. I am so impressed about Vtec service today and would like to share with you my experience . I just moved in Irvine from Chicago west suburb. I have a 2007 Toyota Camry with 66k miles only . I have noticed my tires were squeaky and have been checked a couple of shops including Toyota dealers when I went to do oil change . No one has gave me a solution just told me that I need to change my brake pad soon. When Vtec checked my car and they told me that the brake pad is ok only need to balance . I was told that I need to change pad for$280 but Here I only paid$65 for balancing. They beat every one else. I have not met any shop as good as Vtec . They are no doubt the most dependable shop for Toyota in South Bay Area!!! read more

I came here for service three or four times. I just don't feel this place is that much better than everyone else. Oil change is really cheap. Lowest I can found. Other services, the price is about the same as everyone else. Changing oxygen sensor cost me about $300 here. Others charge about $280~$300. They also sell services which appear to be non-necessary. One time, I had hot-start issue. They were not able to diagnose the issue. Overall, I think this place is as good as or slightly better than other places that I went to. VTEC is the very best mechanics shop anywhere! My wife and I have been taking our cars there for well above a decade and we love it. Their diagnostics have been outstanding and always 100% correct. Their fix-ups have always solved whatever problem was experienced. They always discuss the repairs with us and explain everything that needs to be done and why. They take special care to save unnecessary expenses. Their honesty and professionalism is unequal, very rare these days! The first time we got to them was when I had a quote for repairs for $3000 from a Toyota dealership. A friend referred us to Vtec for second opinion. Jeff and Jim repaired it perfectly for $100. They always tell things as they are and keep their word to perfection. We have full trust in them. There were times when we were sure that some expensive repairs were needed. They checked out the car, made a tiny change, charged very little for it, and it lasted for years. And there were many times when we thought they charged us much less than they deserved. I have a 1996 convertible Celica which I love. These are not manufactured anymore and mine has more than 200,000 miles on it. The only reason why I can still enjoy it is thanks to Vtec. Jeff & Jim take good care of it at very reasonable prices, and with all the miles and years, it spends very little time in repair. I have had sports cars before, and have had many great mechanics, but Vtec have been the very best. Thank you, Jeff and Jim, for taking such good care of us. this place should be alled VCRACK! so I have to give it to these guys they do charge you $17 bucks for an oil change, I went there recently since I was in Irvine on business and needed an oil change, so I decided to head over to Vtech, waited there for about 25-30 min before I was told that my front break pads were going bad (about 5% left on them 500 miles) and was taken into the shop to see, while showing me the break pads they tell me oh the screw rivets are bad for my engine where drain the oil from. so I finally get back home from business and take my car to my usual mechanic and tell him about the break pad issue, well HOT DOG! guess what I had 40% left on my front pads and 60% on my rear pads, but not only that these guys over torquing the screw from doing an oil change. (now I'm really worried) and told them thanks and paid for the oil change. These guys are crooks and I will never take my car there, I suggest you guys get a second opinion before going in for the repair. read more

As a Chinese referred by my friend who raves about this place, I was not impressed. The oil change is cheap, they do overcharge for parts and repairs. I can do the spark plugs and coil packs myself instead of paying 500 bucks here. For those who can speak English, you have better options. read more

VTEC is great. They are timely, reasonably priced, reliable, honest, and helpful. Some positive stories: - I took a car I was looking at buying there to get checked out ($20). They found a number of serious issues and told me they wouldn't recommend it. Great! - Took a second car there, same price, and they recommended that one. I'm very happy so far - Ran over a basketball in our garage with our car, which produced a rattle at higher RPMs when turning. Couldn't figure out the problem, but took it there and drove it around with a guy to illustrate the problem. He lifted it up and found that a piece of metal had been bent by the basketball and was rattling against the exhaust. He bent it back and sent me on my way, no charge. I was so happy I had them do a fluid change I needed on the same stop; when do you ever leave a mechanic with a fixed car and no charge?!? - Sent relatives from out of town there with an A/C problem. They couldn't fix it, but recommended a shop a couple doors down in the same complex, which managed to get the part they needed in over the weekend (this was a Friday afternoon) and have them back on their way Monday morning The atmosphere is a bit "old school" - front desk management is done with handwritten slips of paper, etc. But they manage to be efficient this way, and in a way it's refreshing in a day of electronic everything. The waiting room is nothing to write home about, but tolerable for a short wait, and there is a Panera within walking distance if you want a nicer place to wait. read more

I'm giving these guys a solid three stars. I have been taking my car here for more than 3 years. Mostly for regular maintenance. They have also replaced my brakes in the past. What I have always liked is that they are good about telling you and showing you any work that needs to be done when they are doing your regular maintenance and I do love that. But it is the details that earn a business a 5-star rating. Everytime I get my car back the seat is scoot way way far up and I'm a tall guy it's very annoying and I really think they should be a little more conscious of that. I'm not happy with the hours. I feel like they are too limited and the only time I can really come in is if I come here at 7:30 in the morning which would be the shortest wait or right before lunch if you go after lunch that's too long of a line and they usually won't be able to see your car and they have lunch breaks so if you try to go during you won't be able to get service then either. I once took my car here to have the air conditioning looked at and fixed and they told me they couldn't do that there, so I found another mechanic that I started taking my car to for the bigger repairs. One day I bring my car in for a scheduled maintenance and they bring my attention to a leak in my power steering which I already knew about and was going to have fixed with my other mechanic. I was then lectured on how it is not fair to that shop and that they could have done that there. I appreciate that they told me they could have done that there or that they do that there but they could have saved me the lecture. One of the only reasons I kept coming here was because the oil changes are only $20 for my car and I really can't beat that anywhere else. read more

This is a true and unbelievable story: I have a 1996 Mazda Miata that runs great but I've been driving it from the OC up to LA a lot and wanted to make sure there weren't any hidden problems that would leave me stranded one night on the 405. I basically gave them a blank check -- saying, please check my car from top to bottom and tell me if anything is wrong. So what happened? They came back and said all I needed was front brakes -- a job that cost less than $150. I will be a customer for life!!! read more

took my 10 yr old lexus for break pad + rotter change for one side. everything came out to be $250 and i was happy with their service. on Saturday morning, i got to the shop at 7:15 am and there were 6 people before me in the line! then I left my car, walked to mcdonals (20 minutes) for breakfast and kill time. it sort of worked out since the car was done around 10:30. there were few other places within walking distance. Chinese owner was very nice and he works with you for schedule. he'll also call you to let you know what is wrong with your car before starting the work. price was very straight forward and they replaced light bulb for free for me. will use them again for sure!!! read more
