The level of communication incompetence: mis-scheduling, mis-quoting prices, sending two people out accidentally, adding random charges ($60 service call is added extra on top of their $89 show up fee, which was on top of their $89 estimate cost, and materials quoted has an extra line item for...."parts" making cost almost 80% higher than quote), straight up not showing, calling and saying that they were there when they weren't, asking us to be there immediately because "now they have time", having two different owner's tell me different things, having something "fixed" and it not working within 24 hours and charging more money to show up. Mike Saved Me on A Rainy Day. Today I couldn't close my garage door & gave Vulcan a call since they fixed my garage door 4 years ago. Mike picked up and said he was in his car and would pull over to help me. He called back on facetime and I should him the problem. He focused on the problem and said the latch needed to be parallel with the chain and suggested I play with it to see if I can fix. I got my pliers out and did a little straightening out and voila, the latch hooked into the pulley. The garage door now works to open and close. I contacted Home Advisor and Mike, the owner of Vulcan Garage Services, called me and was pretty confident that he could handle refabricating our original wood tilt-up door to match our other garage door (3-car garage). He helped figure if we should go with 2 new metal doors or stay with wood. Mike employs a master carpenter who helped scout out the materials to match. I'm very satisfied with the price since I could see that Mike was making a lot of calls to compare door types and prices. TLDR: They are expensive but I thought it was worth it. My garage door was acting up and I needed to get it fixed. I paid $20 for a diagnosis from another company and was told my limit needed to be reprogrammed and it could be done in 15 minutes for $200. That sounded way too expensive to me. Vulcan told me they would charge $60 to send someone and ~$90 to reprogram if that was indeed the issue. Vulcan's technician told me...actually, my limit is fine, and the problem is I only have one bad garage door spring when I need two for the weight of door that I have. The cost to redo the springs ended up being triple what the first company would have charged me for the limit fix, but I felt much more comfortable with the Vulcan technician's knowledge and demeanor. He was also able to explain and demonstrate to me how he reached his conclusions. While he was fixing my door, he did a very thorough job--unfortunately, this included replacing 4 brackets and that was added to my bill ($100). He told me that it was necessary, but I was disappointed that he didn't consult me first for something that would add a significant cost. Everyone from Vulcan who I talked to, whether on the phone or in person, was extremely professional and patient. They offered options and explanations and really worked with me to find a solution I was comfortable with. The managers who picked up the phone were experienced and were able to discuss the issue with me, while the other companies only had dispatchers who just told me how much it would cost to send someone. Not even worth of 1 Star. 1: Extremely rude service. Person over the phone is rude and does not care to help you out. He kept my call on hold and then never called back. I called again and then Lady promised that someone will call in 1 hr and nobody called 2: They fixed the settings on my garage door and during that they damaged the garage door motor bulb. Now its does not lit and my garage is dark when door is opening or closing. When I asked for help they asked for 200+ door again. 3: This place very costly and does not provide good service either. They charged me 300$ for 20 mins service and also told me that my garage door motor is very old and needs replacement and that will cause 1500$. The technician came out was very polite he did some repairs and said the garage doors are working fine. She let the company know that The garage system was still making a weird noise. They said that everything was installed correctly and that it correct it's self in time. But I was referred by a prominent fence company and Vulcan didn't call me back until I called, sent a text as they requested, and had to call again. I was asked to send an email which I did. Then a third guy calls, with no information and wanted to start the process over again. For the second time in a few months Vulcan came through for me and my family. The first time I needed their help I was opening the garage and I heard a loud snap. A cable had disconnected but what I didn't realize is the spring had also busted. I searched and found Chad and he called back within minutes to schedule a time that day to come over. Chad and Cory examined everything suggested a fix and got to work right then and there. They were finished replacing the spring and installed a second one to make sure this problem never occurs again. Well the second time I needed them just happened. The garage door opened and then stopped half way. I checked everything I could think of and even power cycled the door lift. Nothing worked. Two springs had to be replaced for which they've quoted me $400 (You get those for $80 at Lowes). Paid another $80 for the center spring bearing. On top of that They've charged me $450 as "Racked door fee". I was informed by Chad that the developer (William Lyons) hired a contractor to install the garage doors for all units at Palmilla, and supposedly installed them using inferior products. I was quoted more than $800 for the shaft that holds the cable lifter and $585 to replace the Genie motor. I had second thoughts about the cost so I checked other garage door installers, and was quoted a lot less. I worked with Mike and Cori to get a quote on a garage door and a garage door opener (GDO). Mike arranged for Cori to come out and provide a quote. I also called a couple of other companies but neither would provide the option of painting the door. I decided to go with Vulcan and it was an excellent decision. Cori and Matt came to my home at 10:00 am and were finished by 2:00 pm. They did an excellent job and went over all the features of the GDO and the options I had purchased. Cori even programmed the GDO to both our vehicles. They cleaned up and left the garage in the same condition as when they started. The day they did the installation it was pouring rain, yet I did not hear any complaints from Matt or Cori. I thought I would give an update since I was concerned that perhaps something bad would happen with the garage door that we had serviced in November. I am pleased to report it is January and my garage door is still working perfectly. I am not sure that Vulcans Quora reference supports their position. It states: ONCE YOU LEARN A FEW SAFETY TRICKS THE CHANCES ARE VERY LOW EVEN IF YOU ARE WORKING ON THEM. IF YOU HIRE OTHERS (THAT WOULD BE VULCAN), TO DO THE WORK, THE CHANCES OF BEING HURT BY THE SPRINGS YOURSELF ARE ALMOST ZERO. I assume Vulcan was experienced in fixing garage doors and therefore knew all industry safety tricks. Having all options and risks explained to me rather than starting off with significantly higher bid and giving other options that were EVEN HIGHER, did not gain my trust. Why not 5 star? He tried to upsell me for $35 bearings that only needed to be greased. He did not have the right size spring in the truck and used one slightly too strong that was OK, but not perfect. Most people would not notice, but I am a stickler for detail. I was going to replace the torsion spring on my garage door myself after it broke. I was looking for parts which most people do not want to sell because of the liability.
