First, the technicians themselves are great. They show up on time, they clearly care about the customer. We had a unique setup with a rollup door in a residential and an ATA Hiro motor they didn't normally service that stopped working (even though ATA had recommended we use Overhead Door Company). My beef is that when we got quoted to replace the motor, the quote included the removal and reinstall of the door itself. So the job was estimated at 5-6 hours. I didn't fight it at the time. I don't know crap about garage doors. And the charge was for $2,200, which seems reasonable for two techs and 6 hours. When it came to actually installing the new motor, it took 70 minutes. When I asked the estimator (Eddie) if it was possible to revise the bill, he said no. That I had already agreed to the original amount. NICE! This is on top of the first time they came out to try another solution that cost me $900. Honestly, I kind of wish they actually removed the door and put it back just for the show. At least I would have paid for something. So this was probably the easiest $3,200 they've ever made. There were a few red flags in this whole ordeal. You'd talk to Ruth the scheduler and admin, who was cordial but also not of much help on the technical side. Also, it always felt like they just could care less, until it was time to take payment. Then the communication was fast and furious. Communication with the manufacturer was always spotty at best. They clearly didn't have a relationship with ATA and honestly seemed like they didn't want to do this job. If this wasn't a job they were compelled to do, just say so, and I would have tried to find another solution. But I think they saw the dollar signs and couldn't help it. In short, they don't have the customer in mind. Just their revenue. If you HAVE to use these people, try to get in writing that the estimate is an ESTIMATE. Response from them: "A quote is an estimation of what is required to complete the service being requested. If you would have set this up as a service call, you would have been charged an hourly rate for time and materials. Its is unfortunate that you are disappointed with our services even after stating the techs were great and completed the installation ahead of schedule." My door separated from the chain and wasn't reconnecting to the clip. The tech arrived and diagnosed the main drive wheel was cracked through. He had one in his supply cabinet. I have used Overhead Door (OD) for several years (three different garages with three different sized doors). I have been impressed with the service technicians each time as they serviced & repaired the doors, always lubricating all moving parts. I've needed several remote controls (6 cars) in one home. OD has always programmed them carefully and verified them by using them in the cars they would be in. Replacing springs is a normal problem since the springs will eventually BREAK. Changing springs is an important task and done poorly can warp/damage doors. I'm happy to fully recommend them for repair or new installations. Although other clients have had customer service issues, I never have. read more

Revised review from Fall of 2014 to only include facts: I had two garage door openers, lost one.  I purchased one from this company to replace it. They charged $75 but it did not work. They would not accept a refund, claiming that it was the overhead unit that was the problem. They offered to have someone "repair" the overhead unit for $98. I refused, knowing the issue was unrelated to the overhead unit. Prior to posting a review, in person, I repeatedly attempted to resolve this issue, to let them know that they were rude/unkind/condescending with their communication toward me. I gave them repeated chances to stop being rude and stop with the poor customer service, manager included. I only proceeded with this review due to my in-person attempts to resolve the problem with the company had failed. 12/7/14: I purchased a universal garage door opener from Lowes, which worked. I am super duper satisfied with my service from overhead door company. My installer named Andres came on time and even earlier as I requested and was so friendly and professional right from the start. He explained all the features of my new garage opener (which he didn't have to) and told me what he would be doing and how long it would take. He was exactly right and Andres even showed me where he was installing the wireless pad and gave me some tips on how the opener works and what to watch out for when setting it up and using it and even locking the remotes as needed. I really appreciate Andres professional attitude and his willingness to help me since I never had a new updated garage opener before with camera and wireless features. The bitch who answered the phone was rude for zero reason off the bat. She had attitude just saying hello and stating the company. Not sure what's up her ass but because of her attitude but thanks to her, she lost two potential customers. I called 5/13/24 at 3:30pm just so you can refer back to who was there at the time. If you hate your job so much, maybe consider not working with the public so you can do something a little more your speed. I knew this company through Home Depot installation program. Needed to buy a garage door opener from Home Depot and paid the installation $127+tax in store. One year labor warranty with Home Depot plus life time belt and motor warranty with Chamberlain. We purchased the Chamberlain B750, 3/4 horsepower. We just need 1/2 HP, but we prefer a quieter belt and wifi, B750 was the best choice in that store. I paid $218+tax for the opener. If you don't care about the belt, there is a heavy duty chain 1/2 HP with wifi model for only $178. I actually got several estimates from the professional garage door companies. None of them provide Chamberlain garage door opener. It is easier to find door remotes and parts of Chamberlain, and the reviews are good. That's the first reason we chose Home Depot. The second reason is the price was competitive. It's more than $100 cheaper than the other companies. Brian called me on the next business day after we paid in Home Depot. The contractor is Overhead Door Company. Lic# 215098. The first available date was 5 days later. Dan came on the scheduled day. He spent 2 hours to finish the installation. He was easy to communicate with, and gave us some informations about the project. He installed the opener well and fast. He did such a great job. The best part I like is the way he made small coils for every wire. The wires will have rooms to adjust with weather or future projects. He also fixed an old issue which cause the garage door break for free. We were also considering to change the old spring. Brian told me to get a quote during the installation. If you choose to go with Overhead Door, please be advised that you may have to wait a long time for nothing to happen. I needed some basic maintenance performed on three of my commercial warehouse roll-up doors. I contacted them at the beginning of 2017 and was told that I would need to wait a month before they would have an appointment available for me. I did not receive a call back. The problem my doors were experiencing wasn't a big deal, so it didn't bother me too much. I called them back in the middle of November and attempted to schedule service again. At that time, I was told that they would need to call me around mid-December. On Friday, 12/1 at 5PM (right at the time many warehouses shut down production for the week) I received a voicemail letting me know that an appointment was available. I called them back as soon as I listened to the voicemail on Monday morning, 12/3. Their customer service representative answered, and she told me that my appointment was no longer available. Despite the fact that I had waited two to three weeks already, and despite the fact that they had called my office at 5PM on a Friday night, they did not want to extend the courtesy of giving me until lunch on Monday before they gave away my appointment window. She then told me that she would have to call me back "at a later date" in order to schedule my appointment, but refused to say when that date would be. I called back to politely explain my frustration, but she refused to empathize and instead insisted that there was nothing available today. I said that same-day service wasn't essential, and that I'd be happy to book something for January or even February, at which point she just waited about 10 seconds in silence before simply saying "No". When I asked to speak to a branch manager, or anybody else, she simply said that, "There's no one else." Frustrated, I found a smaller mom/pop shop in the area, called them up and was able to make a next-day appointment in a matter of minutes, and with a very friendly customer service rep. When I called Overhead Door back to cancel my appointment request, a man answered - proving that when the previous rep said "There's no one else", she was lying. These kinds of doors are essential for commercial services such as my business. Telling businesses that they need to wait an indefinite period of time before you *might* schedule an appointment for them is not efficient for your customers. The services that you provide have an impact on your customers bottom lines, and to insist that they wait in the dark while talking rudely to them is simply asinine. read more

Rough Start but Followed Through Honestly we had a rough start with Overhead Door, the wrong parts were ordered and there were delays, but in the end they followed though and did a good job. I can't give enough praise to the two installers who came out to finish the job, they were very professional and went above and beyond to make things right. Our 1/2 HP Genie accelerator started to make some noise when closing after 15 years of service. I called Overhead Door Company of Santa Clara because of the rating on the Genie Web Site. When making the appointment I was quoted $110/ hr for service. I was pretty sure the noise was coming from the motor and or the connection to the screw drive. I thought that an experienced tech could remove and replace the whole drive unit in an hour or less. The Home Depot price for a new Genie 1/2 HP is $193.00. I am thinking around $350.00 to $400.oo for the Job. The on site quote was well over $800.00. Paid him $115.00 for the service call and requested that he leave. My advice is to get a quote for a new unit before they show. Save yourself some grief. read more

Brian from this company first scheduled me on Friday 1-3pm then called me on Friday morning saying that they have to reschedule to next Monday 12-2pm. My 288 Se ries sectional Overhead door, with 950-CD opener, finally had the torsion spring break after 24 years of reliable service. I talked to Ruth on a Friday, who set me up with an appointment for the following Monday between 1-3pm. The service tech, Dan, arrived at 1:30 on Monday and proceeded to determine what it would take in time and materials to do the repair. He clearly knew what he was doing and had the door repaired and working again in an hour. Along with replacing the spring and lifting cables, he made sure a couple of screws that had come out were properly placed and tightened. The office employees here have always been very nice and have provide prompt, professional, courteous service as well as basic simple instructions on how to program my new remote controller units. My garage door springs broke and I needed an emergency service call to get my car out of the garage. Think again about calling this company as they provide an emergency number for service but I had to leave a message (Saturday, 2:00 PM). The message stated the office hours had just closed as of 1:45 PM and that and they were now closed. Well, it's Monday at noon and my call and message (left as urgent too) were never replied to. So much for their concern and offer of an emergency phone number if they never reply. I don't know how a business can remain with such a poor service response. This is a service industry and the one thing this company does NOT have is customer service. Every other shop has 4-5 stars and look at this company that should be at -1 star if at all possible. I will say that when they came out the first time the tech took car of the problem, but 6 months later I'm thinking that it might have been replaced with a board that goes bad right when warranty is over probably as another reader has stated. My other issue is booking appointments. The person who does this should be fired or better yet get a personality of some sort. I work 6 days a week so getting them to come on my day off so I can spend the rest of my day with my family is a task. I booked something 2 weeks in advance because they didn't have any tech that could come out that week I was off. So guess what my wife and kids get to do for 2 weeks, open the garage door manually and do that while our neighbors aren't looking so they don't break in. The day of the appointment they call that morning and tell me the tech can't be there until the end of the day, when I had something planned not in the area after the 8-9am appointment. I tell her that this really sucks since I waited this long already for a tech to come out here and now you can't come. I tell her I'll call you back if I can schedule something later. She calls me back 1 hour later stating that a tech will be there by 12pm now. Awesome, let me delay the rest of my day so this can get taken care of. 1230 goes by, then 1pm, then 130, then 145pm... call them to find out status of tech. Oh you didn't get my message that the tech won't be there until 4-5pm? Are you kidding me? Why did you call me back in the first place saying that he could be here by 12pm then? Why? I told you I would call you back to schedule. Needless to say I was very frustrated and wasted half my day waiting for this company. Moral of the story, don't waste your time and money with this company. At this rate they won't be around much longer. There are plenty of other companies out there that want your business and will make a better effort at preserving it as well. Overhead Door Company of Santa Clara Valley, Inc. had this company install a replacement panel for my Overhead Door, model 390. Only called them because they were the only ones who had replacement parts for my out of production door. WHAT A MISTAKE!!! Replacement parts were installed (very expensive) but the repair person over-tighten my Torsion Springs and it broke just 2 day latter. After calling the company (Melissa), said it was a "coincidence" and not their fault. I explained my springs were only a few years old and was working fine prior to their repair. House is vacant, and was only opened 3 times before it broke. Bottom line: AVOID this company they do not stand behind their work!!! You have been warned not the use this company!!! read more

Do not patronize this business. You will be sorry. I have never experienced a business with such horrible customer service. This is despite the fact that they claim "Service is #1" on their Web site. We have had problem after problem with our garage door since we bought it. Each time we call for repairs, the 1st thing we get is a bunch of excuses. And the attitude on the phone when you call the main office is downright appalling. After they were rude to my wife on multiple occasions, I decided to call. They were not exactly pleasant to deal with, but they weren't as rude to me. It's sad when a business only responds to an irate man's voice. When they finally do come out to your house, they're always (repeat, always) late. Forget about the time window they give you, they won't make it. Worse than dealing with Comcast. And the repairman will not apologize when he arrives way late. Nor will he even be friendly. For me the kicker was that they tried to overcharge me, despite their being extremely late for the appointment. They called to get my credit card, and they said, "it will be $xxx". I asked them to itemize the bill over the phone so I could understand the charges. After some hesitation, they costed out the replacement parts (fine) and the labor. They were overcharging on the labor, and they knew it. They wanted 1.5 hours, and I said "the guy wasn't here for 1.5 hours." The response: "We're showing that he arrived at 2:50 and finished at 4:00". Last time I checked, that's only 1 hour and 10 minutes. In other words, you know that he wasn't there for 1.5 hours! Yet, if I hadn't asked them to spell out the charges, they would have tried to slip it by. I then told them that I didn't want to pay more than an hour considering how long they made me wait. To their credit, they agreed to this after "checking with the accountant." A real business would have apologized for being so late and voluntarily minimized the labor charges to a fair amount. These guys decided, instead, to act like being late was the norm (like I said, worse than Comcast) and then clandestinely try to overcharge. If I could give ZERO stars, I woud. read more
