5/27/2023- I came here at 4pm and sat at a dinning table. At around 6pm, the waiter assigned to that table immediately told me that we had a 90 minute interval at the seat. We understood and kept it pushing. At our 90 minute mark, we closed our tab. They said we can sit at the bar however long as we wanted and we took their word as any hospitality experience would, and left to the bar. After paying our tab at a seat, we went to the bar and enjoyed our time. They never said that we had a 90 minute interval at the bar. They never communicated that to us and we proceeded to be at the bar. Now.. at this point me and my girlfriend are just enjoying our time. At this point it was 6pm. 1 hour later, we were confronted by a bartender name Max (or matt) who made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. He did not serve us and he felt he needed to voice his opinion and told us that there were other guests that wanted our seat and immediately put a reservation sign at our bar table. I'm from hospitality and I understand that there's a quick turn around, but if it was communicated from the beginning, I would've understood. The fact that it was at the end, and nothing was communicated to us, it wasn't right. It came off as "get out, I want the next person to come in." It would've been one other thing if my girlfriend and I were causing a scene, causing disturbance to other guests, we would've understood that we had to leave. BUT ----- he chose to put that reserve sign in front of our face and tell us that there were other guests waiting for the bar, which we didn't know that there was a limit to the bar. Don't we also have the right as guests to be at the bar as long as we pay our tab accordingly? To make us feel like we were unwelcome and uncomfortable was so uncalled for and not the standards that should've been represented. I never said you had to give me another drink, I never pushed my bartender to give me more and more. I never was belligerent, Matter a fact, I asked for water from another employee who was also at the bar. He straight up placed the reserve sign at our bar area and disengaged. A few minutes later, He said we have other guests waiting on the table and that's that and he's walking away. Again, I understand that there's a turnaround time and bartenders are wanting more consumers so they can increase their tips and make as much money as possible but there's a way to translate that across without making it seem like your customer isn't enough or isn't paying. As a business, if that was the case, I would set the limitation at the bar too if I wanted speedy turnaround and more tips for my time and it would be known across the board for waiters and bartenders. It's hospitality to stay within standards of reasoning and make sure to communicate that over. We were disrespected by Max and felt so uncomfortable because we didn't do anything wrong. We did absolutely everything we could to keep grace even though we were the guests. I gave the bartender my card every time we left the table just to make sure that she gets all that she needed and felt like we weren't going to "flee." For that other bartender (max) who had nothing to do with us to kick us out for no reason was so sad and disappointing because we weren't belligerent. Bot, the general manager was amazing to hear our side. We appreciated that. As stated above, I also come from high end hospitality where I tell my staff to report to me with "disrespectful" clients. Bot was confused and said "omg, I'm so sorry" which I appreciated. Whether I am on my staffs side or the customer's side, I will make sure to be the best representative to the company because that's what the owners would want and just make sure the customer is happy. That's the nature of service. I am someone who is proud of the institution I represent and would tell my team, "despite what our guests do, take it out on me and voice it to managers who can help guide the situation." Bot took it well and I appreciate that! Overall, it is tacky to make a client feel like they have to leave when they didn't do anything wrong. Never let a client feel like they're not doing enough. The bar is the bar. We paid our dues and gave tips accordingly. Be mindful and very careful about how you come across because you don't know who you're speaking to and sadly, I'm in the same industry who can empathize with service staffs. I know bartending can be rough and they have to make their money, but on the flip side, I know they can make a reasonable amount of money so don't get too greedy here and take it out on the customers. For managers, I would reinforce standards to all my team to keep all things consistent and ensure our standards are communicated throughout the board. So disappointed because we didn't do anything but enjoy our time. Do better. read more

Worst service. Worst management. In all my years living in LA and enjoying the vibe of Venice joints , I have never been faced with such blatant and intentional discriminatory comments uttered and displayed by the entire management, host, and bartenders. An intentional joint effort by all, including bus staff, to attempt in every way to say "we don't want you here" From the onset, we should have left because they were rude, and gave obvious snarky smirks. But given it was a girlfriends bday and a girls night out, we thought to make the best of it . our reservations were "allegedly" not confirmed at 8 although we showed the confirmation we had on OpenTable, we sat at the bar until a table opens up at 9;45. (Having been forced to make a SECOND reservation on open table. ). Won't bore you with all the details in between from the shoving, pushing, comments , purposeful spilling of drinks unapologetically, and taking full drinks away from us at the bar when not finished just that we leave sooner ...to just name a few, it all had transpired because , come to find out later, one of my girlfriends told the hostess "if a table becomes available earlier, can you let us know because we came down from Calabasas." And that was it ...each time we inquired about the readiness of the table , the hostess said "sorry we don't have one yet , this isn't calabasas." When finally 9;45 came and we asked do we have a table now , she said "oh sure, yes right there ...pointing out to the sidewalk, no lights and heaters removed." I said well it's very cold is they anything else, she said "no sorry this isn't calabasas." the presumption was that just because where one lives, a stereotype develops in one's mind of who we are are . As if we are ALL the social media created "Karen" . Reality was that we were 8 happy girls wanting to enjoy ourselves after a longs days work and celebrate our friend. Throughout all the intentional disrespect and comments made to Us, not once did we ever yell, complain, make a scene, or demanded anything ...and in fact we spent a good amount of money, was gracious in our Gratuity considering the bartenders treatment towards us... and yet we were judged from the time we walked in. If you hate the Karens of the world, then why do YOU judge as if you are a Karen yourself??? It's presumptions thar lead to judgment, and in turn, hate. There is no need for people act in awful ways towards one another as opposed to treating all the same with love, equality and respect. You can never judge a book by its cover (as they did with us) ...but I can certainly judge a restaurant by their conduct , discrimination , professionalism and service. I recently visited Wabi on Rose and I have to say, the service was absolutely outstanding. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome and were attentive to our needs throughout the entire meal. Now on to the food! Let me start by saying that the tiger king roll, blue crab roll, and salmon roll were all incredibly delicious. The flavors were perfectly balanced and the rolls were beautifully presented. The nigiris were also fantastic, with each piece of sushi being fresh and expertly prepared. And let's not forget about the crispy rice, which was a delightful surprise that added a great texture to the meal. But the real standout dish for me was the wagyu chili dumplings. These were absolutely amazing! The dumplings were perfectly cooked, filled with tender wagyu beef and just the right amount of spice. Overall, I highly recommend Wabi on Rose for anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience. The food is top-notch, and the service is truly outstanding. I am partial to the old Wabi on Abbott Kinney, but the new spot is gorgeous and great for photos. The host was adorable and kind and we got seated promptly. We came for my birthday, and everything our waitress (Abby?) recommended was amazing. I can't remember the names of any of the rolls we got besides the Moon roll and the Lion King, but they all tasted complex, fresh and flavorful. The cookies are to die for, and our waitress even surprised me with a candle and a round of shots! Make sure to make reservations well in advance...its packed in the evening, understandably so! With that said, the place is COVID safe - all the staff was wearing masks and face guards, and there are barriers in between tables on the sidewalk. Would love to be able to sit on the inside patio next time. Overall, tasty food, lovely ambiance, and attentive and kind staff Love you Wabi. Will be back. read more

Located in the hip section of Rose Av. in Venice Beach is this bougie sushi restaurant, I think it used to be Wabisabi on Abbot Kinney, and they moved here and reinvented themself. Anyhoo... made reservations and were seated in a timely manner, all the hosts, servers and staff were super hospitable, kind and cheerful. Got a couple of cocktails that were tasty but not very strong. The king roll was very good, and also a good size of portion - not sure about $27 but still very good, the cod in miso was divine ! (Forgot to take a pic - bummer). Not a big portion but so so good. We as also got the crispy rice which was as good as anywhere and the spicy yellowtail which was the best one in my option. Overall it's a nice and relaxed atmosphere on a Wednesday evening. Free street parking all around which is a plus. Would recommend for sure. read more

I have ate at Wabi before, but at this location, it was my first experience, and boy was it a great one! I truly enjoyed the 1st class service and the special touches of exquisite beauty in their bathroom& restaurant. I am impressed by their chic high quality "to go boxes" and "to go bags". I met the owner Tricia in the restroom, which was lovely because she is so friendly & cordial. She made me feel special and welcome in her establishment. I also met the hostess, who greeted us at our table and made us feel very welcome. This is going to be my regular dining spot now that this establishment is open for business. Wabi on Rose is a notable spot on Rose Avenue, perfect for a weekday night with its excellent ambiance and great service. The setting is vibrant and inviting, making it a pleasant dining experience. However, as a vegetarian, I found the menu options somewhat limited, which is somewhat expected at a sushi restaurant but still a bit disappointing. Nonetheless, the rest of my party thoroughly enjoyed their meals, indicating the quality of the food for everyone else. If you're in the area and not restricted by dietary preferences, I'd recommend giving Wabi on Rose a try for its atmosphere and vibes alone. read more

Wabi on Rose is undeniably a cute restaurant with a nice and trendy interior, creating a pleasant vibe. During my visit, I ordered the tuna crispy rice, salmon roll, and blue crab roll. The tuna crispy rice was a standout, offering an enjoyable flavor. One observation was that the rolls seemed to be cut a bit thick for my taste. Place was very busy but had a lot of appeal. Great interior and exterior spaces. We were able to place a reservation before going so we did not have a wait. (I would highly suggest this since the line was out the door). Staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Attentive on refilling water before we ever ran out. We had the Rick James and the sushi plate which were both delicious. The sushi was delicious and the toro melted the moment it hit the tongue. The price was steep but well worth it. read more

Omg where do I begin....here...first of all this place is always packed no wonder why because the food quality is out of this world! Oysters are the freshest and the Brussel sprouts with their lemon sauce I need their secret! Rolls are incredible and so is literally everything else on this menu, trust me I've tried it all. Since I'm lucky enough to live nearby, Wabi is my go to spot. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, though my favorites are the yellowtail special, the lobster roll, the branzino and the crispy rice 2.0! Cocktails, food, and service from beginning to end always exceed my expectations, even when they're super busy. Brent and Abbie always take amazing care of us. We just dined at Wabi on Rose, and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The sushi was subpar to say the least. The fish did not taste fresh and all of the sushi and rolls we ordered were covered with tons of garlic and weird dressing to disguise the bad quality.
