Overall great experience and would definitely come back, maybe even before my current trip is over. I'd just stick to the signature waffles and açaí next time though. Details below. Originally I was just looking for a new açaí spot to try, but saw this place had really great reviews and even made 4th on Yelp's top places to eat in the US, so I got my friends to come try it with me. Line was moderately long and we waited maybe 15 minutes, which was fine with me since it gave my group time to figure out what we wanted. We even managed to snag a table in the front of the restaurant since a family decided to move for more space. I recommend having someone in your party claim one as soon as they can since this place is popular. It was helpful that they had large versions of their menu posted in a couple places. We wanted to try everything so we got an açaí bowl, eggs and sausage, and one of their signature waffles. The star of our meal was definitely the signature waffles. The lady who helped us with our order recommended the chocolate chip banana since it had less overlap with the ingredients of the açaí bowl. The waffle was crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle and had a decent thickness. Bananas looked to be the amount of ripeness I prefer with no dark spots, and the chocolate sauce was served on the side, which helped it not get soggy too fast. I'll admit the ice cream wasn't amazing, but it was the perfect pairing for the chocolate and provided a great backdrop for the warmth of the waffle. I also thought the dollop of whipped cream on top was more than appropriate. Second place would be the açaí bowl. I've had this at a handful of other establishments, with a couple of them being in Hawaii, and what made this stand out to me was the texture. It was really smooth and somewhat dense, and was served at a temp that kept it from melting too fast, which made it easy to share. All the fruit was fresh as well. Third place goes to the eggs and sausage. While the eggs were nicely cooked and the green onions were a nice bright touch, they weren't anything spectacular. The same could be same about the sausage as well. I added these to our meal though so we could have something savory to balance out the sweets. I somewhat expected this too since eggs and sausage aren't found anywhere in the name of the place. What confirmed for me why they were on the top 100 Yelp list though was the service. Remember that family I mentioned that moved? Well one of the staff members came and started dropping off some food on our table, thinking we were that family. Given we had never been there, we thought it was our food too, but we soon realized that it wasn't and let him know. He seemed so genuinely upset at himself even though it wasn't his fault, and the family even noticed and the mom came over immediately to rectify the situation. We let her know we didn't touch the food and she reassured the worker that it was okay and that he can just bring the food over to their new table. Coming from working in restaurants, I know that once food hits a table it's proper to made new food, but I think the family and my group new that would be such an unnecessary waste of food and didn't want the kids to wait even longer for their food, so we made it clear that we were fine if that didn't happen. He apologized profusely, even after we said it was okay, so that to me shows how much the workers here care about getting things right, which I feel should be felt across all customer service establishments. read more

I work in Honolulu about every other month and I will NEVER miss coming to Waffle and Berry for an açaí bowl while I'm here. The staff is always so nice and the açaí bowl is the best I've had in Waikiki...and I've had a lot. Keep your eyes peeled when looking for it or you might miss it down the stairs ha ha but I love that it's a little tucked away and unassuming, keeps the line from going out the door like some other places near by ;) love this spot! This is his favorite spot for acai so even though it's out of the way in Waikiki, we often drive here just to pick it up. Lots of tourist when we usually go but I'm glad to see this business doing so well. I remember the days back when they were in ohana marketplace in ward and they just had a little stall. Let say- you went to New Orleans and at the moment Mardi Gras had already taken place. You were literally at the end of your visit and you went over to your friends's place whose grandma had just cooked a big pot of gumbo now what I need to express here is... this- that feeling of having to had a very well cooked meal done by your friends grandma now we all understand how grandma's cook right? There's no small deal on that. You don't take something like that for granted. We have a lot of foods that are from Hawaii that have that feeling that is your basic Hawaiian dinner and we all know what LauLau taste like. We also know going over to Chinese grandma's house. We all know that if she had made chicken or turkey "Jook"-- that is not a small deal there either because she had hand cut that ginger instead of Using a food processor for that!!--now let's take it back to this Gumbo Monday here at Waffle and Berry- made by owner Cal. He's possibly the closest to what his Grandma is to the making of this Gumbo!!!! I've had gumbo and that gumbo that I've had for the first time in a place called "Orleans restaurant" Denver, Colorado. I don't know if it's still there or not but they had a gumbo and it's nothing like this gumbo. The sauce, which, in my opinion is outstanding, it hints to the right spices for something that would be reminiscent of what Cajun eating would be. I don't suspect that there was anything overly done. I feel it was perfectly done. I feel like I was really given that heartfelt meal that you get from going to grandma's house For that so-called cooked meal. I prefer this gumbo compared to any other gumbo I've had in the past.... The rice is well suited!! and it pairs with the sausage, the chicken and of course the shrimp --that is exactly how I would've liked my shrimp to be in the gumbo I've had in the past--it was not like that in the gumbo ive eaten at the place in Denver. Nothing like it.... The difference is the rice and the way the sauce is done. It is completely different than what I've had in Denver. Just a quick comparison, there is a thicker tomato type of sauce in the gumbo. I've eaten in Denver and it had potatoes, not rice. This gumbo is divine . There's something about the way that saucy soup and the whole shrimp and the whole chicken and whole pieces cut fairly well cut sausage in the bowl. It is a divine dinner. It is what I would call the way- Gumbo should be made. Now that I've had two different styles of gumbo, I am hands-down favorite for CAL's gumbo at Waffle and Berry.... I'm gonna look for gumbo that's done that way. He's done it here. I'm sorry it's just not the same. If it's not done this way it is not gumbo . He's just managed to take me to New Orleans to his grandma's place with one dish. As always with this exquisite meal basing around, I heard $35-$50 is well worth the time that great spice in the sauce and the rice is so much better than potatoes and tomato sauce and chopped shrimp !!! This has whole shrimp and it is just awesome!! Plus, dessert comes with it and of course you know if you've been to waffle and Berry hence the name then the giving is not small be prepared to have your best Cajun styled gumbo at waffle & Berry!! My friend and I wanted to go someplace new to celebrate retirement! We came across Waffle and Berry. Its in the Waikiki Shopping Plaza downstairs. The restraunt is very warm and cozy. There are lots of tables and you can also eat outside of the resturaunt where there are tables and chairs. We were greeted very warmly by the person taking orders. the servers and staff are all very friendly and helpful! We chose their breakfast combination and a chocolate waffle with strawberries. The combination breakffast was Ok. There's a choice of granola cereal or grits with soft scrambled eggs and sausage with toast. We chose the cereal and it was the best thing on the combinaton. The crispy light, chocolate waffle was loaded with chocolate flavor ! I will be returning to try something new. I was pretty disappointed with my experience here. The customer service was lacking and the menu setup is really confusing. Instead of an actual menu, it just uses AI-generated photos, which feels weird and doesn't work well for a local spot. The staffing situation was also totally disorganized. There was only one girl out front trying to do everything, sweeping and restocking, while multiple other workers just hung out in the back. One of the employees was walking in and out while talking super loudly on her phone. Our favorite acai bowl place in Waikiki! The people here are so friendly and nice, and the acai bowl texture is always perfectly creamy and super solid, not like the ones that melt immediately. The toppings are so good too! It's pricey but so are other places, so I'd prefer to come here instead. It's usually super packed, especially at breakfast. This is one if those places that will help save this Asian food hall as many stalls are slow. At first, I thought $18 was a lot for an acai bowl, but the size fools you! As you keep eating, you find that the portions are actually quite generous and definitely could've been split with another person. Located on the backside of Victoria's Secret downstairs so hard to miss coming from the other side. We got the breakfast platter with grits, their chocolate chip banana waffle that comes topped with ice cream as the standard, and lemonade. Ice cream was a nice change to waffles but I don't feel this should be the only option. You can swap ice cream for eggs and sausage for $8. I feel that is steep given the regular size is $18 and $12 for half size. $2-4 is more appropriate. The regular waffle portion is a good size so I'd opt for half size. The platter portion in my opinion is small for $18. Not many eggs or sausage provided. The grits, however, came in a large bowl. I'm from the south where grits are popular. I was not a fan. The grits were too watery which made it hard to improve the flavor with salt and pepper. It still tasted watery. I'd opt for the granola instead. The lemonade was very tart. Couldn't drink it. I'd opt out and just get water. Everything else was good. Overall, a pretty good experience, but the pricing as discussed to substitute ice cream for eggs and sausage for $8 to a meal that is already $12-18 and the portion of the breakfast plate at $18 with a small amount of eggs and sausage are not in line with the high price point for breakfast. Took my niece to my favorite Açai bowl spot so she could experience it, too. The place was hopping when we arrived around 10:45am but Cal made it a point to take our orders and make us feel like VIP's. We both ordered the Acai bowls hut my niece added a waffle, which we shared. We enjoyed our bowls so much, along with her iced tea and my iced coffee. I was craving waffles so bad and searched on TikTok and kept seeing videos about 'Waffle & Berry' and since it's about a 2 minute walk from my hotel I decided to check it out! Workers are SO incredibly sweet and I ordered the berries and cream waffle and it was so delicious and for the price the portions were so huge! My mom & I couldn't even finish lol! They also had a free fruit stand in the front which was very sweet of them. Located on the lower level inside the Waikiki Shopping Plaza in the heart of the tourist mecca that is Waikiki in Honolulu, Hawaii, Waffle and Berry is your classic mom and pop restaurant that specializes in all things waffles and additional sweet treats that are perfect for all time of the day from breakfast to lunch to dinner thanks to their perfectly crafted waffles, acai bowls, and specialized beverages. The no-so-secret success is due in part of the charisma and charm of the hard working owner Cal or Mr. Cali as he is also known as, as tourists and locals alike come for a visit to taste one of their many handcrafted waffles and treats. Waffle and Berry came highly recommended by my fellow Elite Yelpers and I for one am so grateful to be able to try them, even as a solo diner, as I was worried that they would be overcrowded with loyal customers or my meal would be so big that I wouldn't be able finish my meal as I simply wanted to try a sweet treat on my own without being overindulged. Luckily neither came to be as there were plenty of seats and tables available thanks to the hard work of their crew always being there for their customers and the fact that they so wonderfully serve half portions, which is not the most heavily advertised option, and for good reason. Despite arriving at a relatively early hour of 9 a.m., business was booming at Waffle and Berry but thankfully upon entry there were still some tables available. All visitors have to do upon walking into Waffle and Berry is approach a service representative who stands adjacent at the counter and approaches you with friendliness as you peruse the menu. The menu at Waffle and Berry is sweet and simple with five different waffles offered up on their menu and one additional catch-all Kireina Hama which combines multiple fresh fruits and many features of their acai bowl. Although the fresh fruits that Waffles and Berry serve up sound delicious, there was something lightly appealing about their Chocolate Chip Banana Waffle which at half an order at a reduced price of $12 was one piece of their golden waffle topped with chocolate chips, sliced bananas, powdered sugar, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and their homemade whipped cream. It wouldn't take too long for my small meal to be delivered to my table and it would be a joyous single waffle topped with all the fixings, with an additional ramekin of maple syrup ready to douse every waffle bite. Sitting inside their restaurant that had no light thanks to their location being subterranean was a real treat as a number of customers, most of which you can tell where tourists come in and enjoy themselves. My single waffle wasn't too sweet thanks to the enriching scoop of traditional vanilla ice cream and their creamy whipped cream that I enjoyed with every bite. My total bill was $12.57 before gratuity was added in, which was more than worth the price of purchase. In and out and totally satisfied is just the way I like it, and I cannot wait to return to Waffle and Berry on my next visit to Waikiki as I cannot wait to share in their The Hutch sharable waffle meal or even enjoy their namesake Berries and Cream. Perfect crispy waffles with creamy ice cream is the only way to spend a day or evening while walking around Waikiki. Who would ever think to pair acai bowls with waffles? This was one of my favorite spots to try in Oahu. It's hidden on the bottom floor of the McCully Shopping Center in Waikiki. It's definitely a hidden gem. Walking in, we met the owner Cal, who explained the menu and topping station. We ordered an acai bowl with waffles on the side and it was amazing. We would scoop the waffles into the acai, which was the perfect combo. The acai was more of a sorbet with/ added fruit in the bowl. The Waffles were crispy and had a sweet touch to them. Honestly it was pretty addicting. After we got our bowl, we went to the topping station to add coconut and granola, there are other options too.
