One cook, one server, half the seating is shut down. We each ordered the two eggs with toast and hash browns and watched the cook prepare our breakfasts. The table was dirty, but we sat anyway and wiped the signs of someone else's breakfast away. The food was not awful although we've certainly had better and our option was eating at the hotel. Greasy eggs, greasy hashbrowns, white toast half toasted swiped with Oleo and dumped onto cold plates. Service was minimal but friendly. We both ordered waffles,they came pale,doughy,not cooked in center,so back they went. Another twelve minutes on our order,waffles was still doughy in center,and the place wasn't even busy!! Oh good grief - what a hot mess this place was on the night we came. Yes Covid has really thrown a wrench into everything, but I think they have actually made more work for themselves. Because there was only one server, they roped off part of the restaurant and only had three booths open. They did have the counter open but you could only sit there and place an order to go. That really didn't make sense because it took more work for them to fish out the correct size to go container, put it in a bag, and gather up the condiments. They could've just left the food on a plate and served it at the counter. The server and the Cook were really working hard. There was one lady who really don't even know what she did, most of the time she stood there and either read off an order or hold somebody's check. Nothing quite like arriving in a town where every place to eat is closed (COVID) except Cook Out and the Waffle House. The line at Cook Out was horrendous, so decided to grab Waffle House instead. As far as this Waffle House goes, it is like every other Waffle House. The food is diner gut bomb, but you can have biscuits and gravy with a side of hash browns scattered, covered, smothered and chunked. What could possibly go wrong? :P When we arrived, there was armed security in front. Obviously Tunnel Hill is not the upper class side of town. But, part of the Waffle House experience is the unique nair do wells that pop up. In this case, it was a guy who sat down at the high top section next to the register asking for some g**d*mn food now. He was ultimately asked to leave by one of the employees (ex-military) and agreed when security came in to see what was going on. Obviously high on something and entertaining as hell. The food? If this place thrills you, then you need to really reevaluate a lot of life choices, or confront the need for a twelve-step program of choice. This Awful House gets an extra star for being modestly cleaner than the usual. No undercover CDC truck picking up scrapings, looking for the next unidentifiable virus or bacteria. Food? They didn't kill the eggs, although the bacon, thin enough to be porcine paper, was a few hours beyond overcooked, and cold. The eggs themselves? The cheapest, most anemic looking that money could buy. Hash browns were coarse and less than cooked. Stringy. Star up for the server being cheerful, and helpful, and not wistfully looking at the Denny's, down the way, and muttering to herself: "Someday, I'm gonna make it to the BIG TIME." I survived. The cleanest, most inviting Waffle House I've ever been to. This spot was across the street from where I was staying for a quick visit to Asheville. So convenient and quick prior to a few brewery visits. Our waitress was one of the best servers I've had in any restaurant in some time. She was more thoughtful and aware in the 2+ years she had been with Waffle House than many exponentially more experience servers in high quality spots. Certainly, misplaced her talents. The food was a better quality than most Waffle House locations, too. The Waffle was incredibly fresh and perfectly golden, not soggy, dry or under/over cooked. My eggs were fluffy and hash browns crisp but not burnt. Couldn't be happier with that meal! read more

Just have to say hunter who was from another store who stepped in to help after his shift was over was absolutely a joy. The other two ladies had no sense in what they were doing, but were friendly. Everyone was great. But hunter was above and beyond to get orders out and make sure people were happy. One waffle came out burnt and the other came out just barely cooked. If I could rate hunter I would give him 10 stars, but as of the ladies who decided smoke breaks were more important than feeding or taking care of their customers, low stars for sure. read more

The hotel we stayed at during our visit in Asheville was next door to this Waffle house location. We did have a breakfast included at the hotel (which we usually take advantage of gladly), but this time, the temptation was too high, so we gave in and went to Waffle House for breakfast. We live in California and they don't have this chain around, so we have it every so... years. You gotta go for their Cheese'N Eggs? Who else make them so good and so soft? They're a mouth watering treat, best thing about this restaurant in my opinion. And they come with raisin toast, which doesn't come often as a choice. Can't go wrong with that! Their raisin toast is delicious. I got their hashbrowns, solid choice. My Southern boy husband fixed his cravings for grits and apple sauce. A happy meal! We got their orange juice and coffee, both just OK. The tables are kinda small and too close to the kitchen, you witness the action too much, hear the banging and slamming. Prices are reasonable, portions not too big, just right. Service was very good, our waitress was very professional, welcoming, called you "Hon", attentive and no-nonsense. As you hope for. Great place for breakfast if you travel/live in the South. For us, it's a staple. You need Waffle House in your life once a while. My girlfriend and I decided to go out of town for a concert and stayed at a hotel pretty close to here. The night of the concert when the show was over the only two places were this Waffle House and a Taco Bell. Originally we were going to go to Taco Bell but the Taco Bell people decided to kick everyone out of the drive thru line and close early so as not to deal with the post concert rush. That resulted in basically everyone going to Waffle House. Place was so busy we actually had to sit outside for a good 20 minutes or so. When we got in the staff was great considering the circumstances they had just been thrown into without warning. Food was good and they saved us a shitty night with no dinner. Honestly. I've never seen a staff deal with so much disrespect. The poor blonde girl that took care of us has nerves of steal. From people just walking out with their whole plate, to some fool screaming "the customer is always right!" in the face of some little girl with red hair, to just general disrespectful tone and mannerisms by maybe 15 other patrons. I can't even fathom doing their job, and then actually be pleasant afterwards. These people don't get paid enough. Have some respect. We both got All star breakfast's and they were bomb. Even in the midst of the chaos. Thank you guys. This was a great example of why the service industry is dying though. And why people are leaving it in the dust. Great employees, everyone was extremely pleasant. A nice waitress held the door for my boyfriend and I as we entered. I ordered my favorite; hashbrowns with extra mushrooms. Always delicious. I also ordered a $1 cheeseburger for the first time and was very impressed. They place the insides of the bread on the grill and it comes out crispy and delicious. Much better than mcdonalds for $1. Our server(s) have all been great when we stop at a Waffle House (they know they'll make better tips when they are) but we don't go very often for a couple of well know reasons - first of all, it's super noisey and yes, we know that and some people probably like that atmosphere but also, even during winter months, the a/c is cranked up high (to keep the staff cool we suppose) but you need to wear a winter jacket inside! And it used to be a reasonable $$ for breakfast but lately, it's now on par with almost all the other similar places (ie IHop) so we will choose the later over WH for some peace and quiet and warmth. read more

I am a huge fan of the Waffle House . I try to avoid this one in East Ashevillle. Because of the loud music . I have been here and have asked if they can turn the music down and they barely do . Went on my 30 minute lunch break to grab a simple order- crispy triple hash brown topped with bacon. There were four tables seated (two already eating) and three to go's between two servers, the three to go's being orders for individual people, not groups. The servers were touching the food going on the grill without washing their hands, and if you know WH you know that servers also do the dishes. It took 20 minutes for my hash browns to go on the grill, the bacon must have been sitting for a while because I didn't see them put it on or take it off. Three minutes after my hash browns were on the grill they were placed in the container, soggy. The server crumbled up the bacon by hand and tossed it on. I was charged $8 for a $6 order that wasn't even correct, and when I went to eat my food I discovered over a dozen onions and a few mushrooms in it- both of which I hate. I've not had good experiences with this location in the past but to take up my whole lunch break for the fastest cooked items on the whole menu, give me a wrong order, and charge me extra, is ridiculous. Walked in to place a Togo order and no one greeted us for 10 mins , once we were able to get someone's attention, we were told "I just clean and don't take orders" , then we proceeded to get someone else's attention. Next person then said "we're not doing Togo orders" . Meanwhile she's was checking out 2 other customers with Togo orders . Busy productive staff. Manager stood in corner watching Rome burn. All spaces dirty. A helpful staff member struggled to reach some plates over the counter. I stacked a plate to make it easier. The manager awoke and screamed at me to not touch plates. I asked if they had considered helping the people actually working. She yelled at me again that she could not. Not until all the plates were moved. Faced with such sound logic, I turned to leave and wished the busy staff member a good day since they were clearly struggling. From behind I was yelled at again. To leave immediately and to know that they were in fact good for something. Never said they weren't. Also do not agree that they are.
