You know what Yelpers? This place exceeded my expectations. I thought it would be something like Perkins and meh. Nay! Their menu is simple, but good. Nothing fancy and that's just fine by me. Sometimes you just want a nice waffle without trying to disguise it with bananas and chocolate. Their waffle is like the original style waffle that should be. Sure, they can add on chocolate chips and a couple other options if you like, but it's not necessary. Their basic has the right flavor. First time going to a Waffle House and we were so excited! As we arrived, all of the windows were covered in grease, should have been our first clue. Next we sit down and notice there are numerous ants on the table. The waitress says casually "we've had an ant problem for months now, just can't get them to go away..." as she squishes one on our table. Yuck. Went in because they were the only place open on a late night and I was starving. The lady behind the counter said sit whether but the tables were not clean the back side was blocked off. She repeated herself and I informed her there was syrup on table and food crumbs on seats. She reaches in a bucket grabs a wet towel and has an attitude while wiping the table off. There were 2 men at bar area and she reaches in the ice machine grabs ice with hands and proceeds to fix them water. Disgusting! Hey there! We are on our way back home and we must say this is the best experience we have ever had in a Waffle House! My wife and I both work in the food industry and understand what hat it takes to pull off what y'all did today effortlessly. Great training, great team work, and there was a guy that was mediating between the people coming in and the people sitting down, it helped make everything flow well,his name is Nick we just discovered, lol. Also there was Maddie! She needs a raise for putting up with us and for trying to learn Spanglish from us!!! Waffle House is one of the things I miss about living in the South, and I came here for my condemned man's last breakfast at the end of the golf trip on the way to the airport and back to the world of work and school and taxes. Place was packed - wait list was 10 or 12 deep for a table or a place at the bar at one point - and all the staff were working their butt off, and I got a great breakfast. I'm giving it three stars because as a customer I obviously love the food and they do a tremendous job. We were avid fans of Waffle House until this incident. As an overall business I am terribly dissatisfied because we have an international food brand across the way in Destin commons. I think it is extremely poor business practice in our community to poach employees right inside their place of employment. It comes across as intimidating, you can also say it's trespassing, and you can also say that it is just plain tacky. If anyone from their corporate office or local location condones this, then it's worth having a conversation about staying out of our stores. We have placed advertisements in many different online the venues which obviously takes resource/money to post. We have gone through extensive interviews and screening with background checks and feel that we did our homework to staff properly. Hiring in advance of this time of year takes a great deal of preparation. Success is not an accident. My advice to waffle house is to plan properly, don't use the convenience strategy of poaching your business community neighbors. Also as a sidenote we have protected ourselves against this tactic by offering a wage that is significantly higher than yours. We also provide tips to our cooks (as you highlighted to our staff in your visit) and share in the success and satisfaction of our guests. There is also a significant opportunity for advancement in our multiple Gulf coast locations. It is worth noting that the bulk of our staff are referrals from existing staff. That is the ultimate employee retention tool because our culture has convinced team members to bring on their friends and families to be part of our team. Another point worth mentioning is that our brand has a bit more affluence to it than a waffle house shirt or hat. I would much rather wear almost any another franchise gear than be associated with the stigma attached to waffle house. This type of recruiting tactic of course shows much of why I categorize you this way. So in summary, having great food is only part of the equation. Running a respectful business is a completely different situation that escapes many managers and business owners. We are locally owned and operated and we feel that you can revisit your poaching tactic. We would not set foot in your store unless we were going to eat and spend money in your establishment which after this experience will not happen. read more

I was confused why this section of Florida does not have Starbucks, and I guess it's because people go to Waffle House instead. this is by far the worst waffle house ever. i ordered a cherry sprite and it came out with ants in it!!!!

Me and a friend came in and we're ignored for a good 5 or so minutes before someone finally told us they'd be with us. I ordered my food and told them specifically I wanted hash browns lightly cooked. When they placed them in front of me they were very dark and burnt. I politely asked for them to be remade and they brought them back slightly lighter than before but not even close to what I wanted. A cook came over and even admitted they were "medium" but didn't offer to remake. My friend nicely went and explained what happened asking to not be charged for the hash browns, our waitress replied with "okay whatever" as she threw a hand in the air. When checking out we got horrible attitude. They even threw the change in my hand and it fell on the counter, she gave us a fake apology. I'm a very understanding young adult who is also a waitress and this was the absolute worst service I have ever received. I somehow maintained composure and continued to be polite but someone needs to correct these workers!! My cook was blonde Kath or Kathy? Our waitress was Jessica. Keep in mind I consistently go to Waffle House, both the Niceville, Defuniak and Miramar location. I can't promise i've always had 5 star service.
