My husband and I had a very interesting discussion about this Waffle House. You see, we're both amazingly huge fans of the Waffle House. To start with, it's usually less busy then IHOP or Pancake House. It has the most amazingly delicious hashbrowns. And it's set up like a greasy spoon, so you can sit at the counter and watch your food being prepared. So you can see how we are fans. But it wasn't until yesterday, that we realized that while we are a fan of Waffle House *food*...we are very rarely fans of Waffle House itself. I know, confusing right? You had to be there. But let me try to break this down. This particular Waffle House is our usual go-to spot. Although it's technically in Frederick, it's more like Urbana - which isn't *that* much closer, but it's right off of 270, and because it's out in the boonies (as opposed to the WHs in Frederick proper), that there is rarely a wait. There are menus at each table and at the counter, so once you find a seat, you can start perusing the offerings - but if you're new to the Waffle House experience, let me make it easy for you: order the hashbrowns. You'll want at least a double...and you will want all of the various toppings - EXCEPT the chili. If you are desirous of other items - by all means, go and order...however, with almost all Waffle Houses (and I've been to a considerable number of them) - and especially this one - the following rules are true: 1) Do not get fancy with your order. Don't ask for 5minute-egg. Don't ask for egg-whites only omelettes. Don't ask if they have turkey bacon. It's not that kind of place. Don't embarrass yourself by asking for such nonsense. 2) If you order the steak and eggs, the server will ask you how you will like the steak done. This is a trick question, because all steak is cooked to well. It'll be tasty - but don't expect it to be rare, or medium or anything less then well. Accept this, and you will be a much happier person. See rule #1 3) Do not ask for your waffle to be extra crispy. You will either get a normal waffle or get one burnt beyond belief. See rule #1. 4) Do not ask for things "on the side". They will look at you funny - and end up forgetting to bring it to you. Again, see rule #1. 5) Don't order the desserts. If you want something sweet - order a waffle. This is WAFFLE HOUSE after all...not Pie House. The desserts have been sitting there since 1987. You don't want it. Trust. So even knowing these rules...even yet, things still go awry. To illustrate: a) All 3 times that I have ordered waffles (I usually skip waffles and go for the hashbrowns), I have never ever gotten my waffle with the rest of my order. I have had to always remind the server that I'm missing a waffle...and once, my waffle came half missing and completely burnt. b) 50% of the time, my hashbrowns will come with cheese - even though I didn't ask for cheese. When I point this out to the server, I get a completely blank stare. c) On this past Sunday, my husband couldn't finish his Papa Joe's pork chop plate and asked for a box. Our server came by with a parchment sheet that one would use to wrap up sandwiches with. Yeah. You read that right. I think the main problem is the High School Musical drama that is going on with the servers. As far as I can tell, the blonde girl with the piercings is *really* into the guy with the dreadlocks, but we think that she and the guy with the brown hair had a thing going on once. Dreadlocks guy is crushing on the girl with the black hair, but she's not interested as anything but friends. Blah blah blah. Lots of giggling and flirting going on...which is probably why our orders are always so screwed up. However, there is a bright ray of light in this place - which is why we always keep coming back (well, that and the yummy food): the guy at the meat grill and egg station. On the weekends, there is a guy at the grill - medium build, brown hair with moustache. He is always hungover on Sunday mornings, but he keeps this place together, cuts through the servers' shenanigans, and slings out food like it's the only thing keeping him alive. He is awesome, amazing, and watching him in action is like watching a ballet. Only with bacon. So yeah, this place is a bit of a hot mess...however, the food is filling, fairly cheap, and will hit the spot as long as you follow the rules. The servers are all completely useless, but the guy at the grill makes it all worthwhile. Try sitting at the counter, and watch the magic happen. And seriously...get the hashbrowns. Ok, had to laugh at this one. Every once in a while I will stop by waffle house just to grab a quick burger for breakfast. At least I know that the food is actually cooked to order so I can get something hot and fresh. This trip to waffle house was actually comical. My order was simple, a double cheeseburger, large hashbrowns smothered (with onion), and an ice tea. What arrived was a bacon double cheeseburger (fortunately I like bacon), a small hashbrowns plain, and a lukewarm glass of tea with no ice in it. When you order three things and all three things are messed up when they get to your table you know the staff is having a very bad night. I've eaten at many a Waffle House. This was the worst. Did we have to eat watching the crew slop out the kitchen using mass quantities of bleached water that quickly turned yellow with the dissolved grease and filth accumulated on the floor? Just foul. Our server was overwhelmed by the 3 tables he had. My order was screwed up three times. read more

It is a wafflehouse. This one was fairly new close to Frederick in Urbana. The 3 of us pigged out, had excellent service and unlimited supply of coffee and OJ all for an insanely cheap price. IHop will never see my business again. The food is made the way you want it. read more

Had breakfast food here and it did not disappoint. Great place for an inexpensive late night meal/snack. I wonder if their lunch menu is any good. I also think that the place is clean and looks good. Staff is nice too. I would come back. :-) read more

Today was less good. Busy/short handed. Double cheez arrived without cheese. Mustard container was damaged and leaking, could have easity been tampered with. Carry out ran out of supplies! No check back on order, End of shift blues. (1:45 p.m.) Still tipped 20% plus. read more

I cannot say enough about the staff!! You are greeted coming in and going out, they are letting you know right away " Hey I see you". They communicate with the cooks clearly and please and thank yous are at the top of their vocabulary. The food is good and very affordable. I wish I could remember the name of our waitress to give her her props for great service.......the only downfall of this location would be the cleanliness of the floor and bathroom. read more

I love WH. But the one is Urbana is the worst. Bad survive, super dirty.. Not much more you can say that is redeeming about it. I have eaten in WH up and down the east coast and this one is not like any of those. read more

Customer service was mediocre. We were greeted when entering the restaurant and picked the most clean seat we could find( still wasn't that clean) then once we were seated we were greeted by a nice lady and was asked for our drinks I ordered a hot chocolate but sadly they were out of hot chocolate mix. Then we ordered and I got a chocolate chip waffle with bacon and hash browns. Then after about 20 minutes of waiting for our food it arrived. The food was all around ok but the waffle had about 7 chocolate chips on it and when asked for more the waitress added about 4 more. The hash browns were good but the bacon had some weird liquid on it that looked like dog slobber so I did not enjoy the bacon. After we finished eating payment was easy. read more

Folks were so nice! Except the one chic, Dee, who deliberately had my partner and I sit somewhere else to accommodate a bigger party... which was exactly the same size of my 2 person party. I found it extremely rude and unnecessary; no apology, even if it was a mix up. The food was just alright. But the rest of the staff were great. read more

I had it on my bucket list to try a Waffle House and I'm certain I picked the worst one. For the name shouldn't their waffles at least toast like waffles? The whole thing had a greasy, dirty, depressed, creepy truck-stop vibe. The food, if you can call it that, probably all came out of a ten-year-old can. read more

Had breakfast here on Monday at 9 a.m. We were greeted, seated and served promptly. Our waitress was fast & efficient. Our food was hot & delicious. However, the place needs a deep cleaning. The ladies room floor was very dirty. Food & fingerprints were all over the window at the booth across from us. The register needs to be dusted & the waffle irons were a sloppy mess. read more

I would like to start off my review by saying that I have been a patron of Waffle House for over 30 years. I have traveled to various places and enjoyed my experience 8 out 10 times. But, today made me question some things about the quality of WH now. My husband and I were traveling home and decided to give the WH off Exit 26 MD 80 (Fingerboard Rd. Urbana/Buckeystown a try. Upon walking in we could see that it was not busy for 3:00pm on a Saturday. Once in we saw 3 booths to our right dirty with dishes, 2 guys seated at the counter, and 2 booths to our left occupied. There were 2 of 4 booths to our left with dirty dishes scattered about. We waited for communication to determine where to sit but no one suggested or motioned to us. So, we sat at the counter, which by the way was filthy and syrup bottles sticking to the counter. Finally, a server says, "hi what can I get you to drink?" I replied, "a towel to clean off the counter first". She looked surprised at the request but wiped it off half heartedly. There were 3 cooks, 2 servers and no one bothering to tackle those nasty tables. We looked around the restaurant and could tell that there hadn't been any real cleaning taking place that day. The waffle iron area was ridiculously messy, I have NEVER in 30 yrs of dining in WH seen that. Disgusting. No one appeared to be part of a team, but instead talking and complaining. Two people left, 1 cook and a lady that we assumed may have been the shift Mgr. If she was, she should be reprimanded or let go. That place would have made the GM close it down for a thorough cleaning and retrain leadership as well as staff members. Where is the "pride" in what you do? read more

Dear Waffle House, I just wanted to say THANK YOU to the 3 employees who were working last night at the Urbana, MD location. Yesterday was my daughter's 6th birthday and she wanted to go to Waffle House for her birthday dinner (waffles, bacon and hash browns). We were the only ones there at the time. She asked the server if she would sing Happy Birthday and she responded with an 'ABSOLUTELY'. They proceeded to make her day, by giving her a Waffle House hat, playing the Waffle House Birthday song and they even found candles (which they said were in the back for when the power goes out), they sang Happy Birthday and had her blow them out. Those 3 employees went above and beyond anything I expected. As we left, they wished her a Happy Birthday again and in the car my daughter said 'This was the BEST birthday EVER.' and she wants to do it again next year. Showed up to a packed WH at 11 pm on a Tuesday only to watch Chris and Kim handle it in stride. There's a reason the local Denny's went under and it's because the hard work of these two will always beat any corporatocracy. We love you Chris and Kim, keep handling it and bringing that fine food that only you know how to do! We will be back, happy to drive those 30 miles just for "this" waffle. read more

It's been a while since I ate at a Waffle House. They have good greasy-spoon food for an excellent price. They serve American-style waffles (which seem to be hard to find now-a-days), not the abomination that is known as the "Belgian waffle". For those Belgian waffle lovers, American-style (and who knows if that's even a legit term) translates to thin and soft or thin and crispy as opposed to some giant thick waffle, that doesn't even taste like a waffle, drenched in junk that makes it more of a dessert than a breakfast item. Nothing against the Belgians, mind you. LOL. Anyway, they make darn good cheesy eggs and the grits weren't that bad either. I also got toast and sausage. The sausage were the flat rounds as opposed to the links that I prefer, and isn't the best, but still not horrible. The staff was super friendly and attentive. I like it and would come back if I was looking for a quick and decent breakfast at any hour of the day. read more

Waffle House is one of those places that exists on a sliding scale--the more intoxicated you are (or everything else is closed and your options are limited), the more accepting you are of their food. Slinking away from Waffle House after a meal, is like that one night stand you don't want to own up to; it may have been good, but you sure as hell don't want to be caught seen or leaving there. read more

Ok -- not perfect, but the power is out and these guy as all positive and working hard to provide great service and make good food. They are even giving customers a "Power Out" menu with what they can do. You really can't expect more. Actually a lot of fun to watch! read more

The food was very good, inexpensive, and arrived quickly; just what you want when traveling. We had cheesy eggs, bacon, hash browns with onions, raisin toast, a waffle and coffee. I ate at this Waffle House several times during the week of March 7, 2016. Staff are friendly on every shift. The food is always great. My favorites are cheese eggs with tomatoes and raisin bread. Urbana is a developing area 10 minutes north of Montgomery County, Maryland. This Waffle House is right off I-270 N and conveniently located next to a 7-11 with gas station. There are two strip malls down the street and a really big new local library there. read more
