Waffle House in Ahwatukee was so good to us this morning! When my husband and I arrived with 5kids and realized they didn't have room for all of us, were ready to leave. While we were getting in the car, two employees came out to the parking lot to convince us they could accommodate us at the counter and an adjacent booth. They gave presents to all the kids from Santa, the food was beyond delicious, and they comped our meal! Needless to say we don't always get such a warm welcome at restaurants with this group. This place has gone down hill. I know it's a waffle house, but they don't even try at this location anymore. The last 3 times we have been there the staff have been behind the counter watching You Tube videos, complaining about customers, and complaining extremely loudly about the prior staff on the shift. Today we sat there for 5-10 minutes with a dirty table while the manager complained to everyone in the restaurant that the previous shift didn't do dishes. I visited on a very busy Saturday morning with a line out the door. I managed to get a seat at the bar because it was just me. I was served right away and my food was out almost immediately. Mimi was my server and she was very attentive, but if she was busy with other tables--as they were understaffed this morning--Lulu made sure to check in on me periodically as she continued to call out orders to line cook staff. After a morning of running errands, my hubby and I needed food. We decided Waffle House was a good, nearby option. We hadn't been to one in many, many years. Let me tell you we were disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the prices were decent and the establishment fairly clean. We were seated right away and took a few minutes to look over the menu. I thought the menu was very confusing. Why? It was like a kindergarten picture book. (See my photo.) Give me a straight forward list with prices not all this back and forth, look here and there, here are the up sells, type menu. What the heck? I can read, I don't need a picture of a scrambled egg. I know what they look like. Service was quick and our order came out very quickly. I had a waffle and a side of bacon. My husband had eggs, hash browns, grits, biscuits with gravy, and a waffle. I could not believe the look of my waffle. It was such a sad little waffle. I don't know what I was expecting, but has my husband said, "It's the WAFFLE House" meaning we were expecting amazing looking waffles. Ours were overcooked and so, so THIN. I think all I wanted was a pretty waffle for breakfast. Poor me! My bacon was so tiny and overcooked as well. I was good though, cuz bacon is bacon! The syrup was so so sugary and the "spread" (aka butter substitute) was disgusting. It's nothing but hydrogenated oils. I didn't use it. My husband said his biscuits and gravy tasted like English muffins with gravy on top. They did not look very appetizing at all. It wasn't my favorite meal ever and we likely not be back. Waffle House is Waffle House. Of course you don't expect it to be fancy but it's cheap good eats. This particular location is clean. They clean off the tables and sweep the floor/area before seating the next party. I went on Sunday around 11:45 and was seated in about 15 minutes. It took about another 15 minutes for the food to be served. The location at this time was busy but they kept it things moving along. Me and my boyfriend are highly disappointed with the overall visit to this location on 48th St and Chandler Blvd @7AM on this Sunday Morning. We should have known better as soon as we walked in there was zero customers inside and the workers were asleep on the tables, very unprofessional! We were greeted and our waitress did quickly attended to us. There was a younger girl on her cell phone having a personal conversation super loud where food is being prepared and she was even using vulgar language to one of the guy coworkers as if they had no customers in the place. The next problem is the girl preparing our food seemed to be tired and our food tasted exactly that way! Her shift was ending we figured because after she served out food a guy came in and took over. I wish we would've waited for him because he came in happy and preparing food that visually looked delicious. I question if our food was even fresh, our grits were super thick as if they had been sitting for a while and had no butter I've never had to add my own butter to waffle house grits, the sausage was sad looking, the eggs were questionable, and the waffles didn't even taste fresh or maybe they use a different batter at this location but they were not what we are use to. I still ate a good portion of my food not because it was good but because I was hungry and didn't want to waste our money completly. My boyfriend however took 1 bite of his waffle and his bowl he barely put a dent in it. They sure made it a point to charge us for every single thing but the service and food was garbage. whoever the owner or head manager is clearly does not care at this location Because it shows in the service and food! We will never return to this location, but anyone reading this do yourself a favor and drive a few miles down to the location on Baseline and the 10 freeway you will NEVER be disappointed regardless what time of day or night you go there the food and service is always absolutely amazing!! Place was so loud. I could hear the employee scream and their conversation were so loud it was very annoying and disrespectful in an sense. I was meeting coming there for breakfast and the waitress was nice. The entire staff seem over attentive where they kept asking if we needed anything every minute and if they can take things out of our way when we hardly had anything left on the table. I could not have a descent conversation with the person I was with. It was extremely noisy, and staff was so loud I actually ended up with a migraine just being there. I was craving some wafflehouse, and after spending the AM at coffee buzz, I decided to drop in here. Ive eate at this location before, but not in some time. The service here is usually pretty consistant. Its one of the cleaner locations too! I ended up getting 3 eggs over easy, with toast and hashbrowns. YUMMY. Sure, sometimes it's a lil greasy but, it's not as bad as some and in a 24 hour breakfast joint like this, a lil grease is to be expected. This location is a lil newer and cleaner than the average Waffle House. They make up food that's just as good as all the others... my typical orders are the biscuits and gravy, grilled chicken sandwich or various breakfast combos (but never the waffle - don't go there). Took my brother to Waffle House on our trip back from Texas to California. He's never been to a waffle house before and he was a little nervous about going in. Once we were seated and he looked at the menu he was amazed. Our server Kevon and his sidekick Karee we're the best funniest servers I've ever had the pleasure of waiting on me. Karee Carrie wanted my brother to put on one of the Waffle House hats. When he went into the bathroom I placed a bet with her that she couldn't get him to put it on. I let her know I would buy her breakfast if she could get him to do it. Without telling him that she and I had placed a bet with each other. That kind of tweaked her a little bit she had to think. I ordered the American All Star breakfast and a side of bacon for my dog. Let me tell y'all about Darrel and Matt. It's about 5 am and I approach the CLEANEST Waffle House I have EVER seen. All Waffle Houses are not created equal, if you know what I mean, so I am understandably blown away. Somehow the image of that sweet waffle and the smell of bacon and syrup continues to drip into my dreams.. Back to Darrel and Matt these two are holding this spot down! Darrel and Matt knew how to go the extra mile with service that was honestly topping experiences I have had a 4 star restaurants.
