Driving back from Ahwatukee, I spotted Wonderful Wanda's and decided to trust the road and my stomach. After wandering through diners, cafés, and breakfast spots from Arizona to Mexico and beyond, I've learned that some of the best meals are the ones you never planned. What a beautiful surprise. I ordered The Wanda, an eggs Benedict with avocado and a homemade hollandaise sauce that deserved a standing ovation. Rich, bright, and silky, it wrapped around the dish like Sunday morning sunshine. I also sampled the homemade biscuits and gravy. Hearty stuff. Real comfort food. The kind that reminds you somebody in the kitchen still believes in feeding the soul. The place has warmth to it. Family owned. Woman led. Full of personality. You get the feeling that Grandma Wanda might walk out and ask if you've had enough coffee. Sometimes the universe sends you a postcard. Sometimes it sends you hollandaise. Wonderful Wanda's is one of those happy little discoveries that make you grateful you took the long way home. First visit..very pleasantly surprised. We looked forward to returning. Second (and most likely last) visit..throughly disappointed. Sat...got coffee from the busser...then sat and waited. Watched another couple come in after, get greeted, order taken....while we sat. Creamer curdled in the coffee as a kicker. She finally came over, and just giggled when I said "oh, is it finally our turn? Up...out...down the street to bigger competitor, where we were greeted, sat, and had coffee on the table in the time it took to wait at Wanda's. Nice spot for Breakfast, decent prices for the portions. Smaller mom & pops style dining so prepare ahead if you do not like to wait at all. I will say we had three parties in front of us, but do to the hustle of the Staff, the wait was exactly what we were told (about ten minutes on a Sat). Friendly Staff, easy menu with enough options for everyone in your party. Overall everyone enjoyed thier choices, I loved the way they do the hash browns. The pancake was not my favorite (but I ate it) - -LOL, it was not bad, just not my favorite. The burrito was good and stuffed with steak, mushrooms & cheese. This used to be one of our favorite breakfast places. We actually met the original Wanda a few times. Over the years, the quality slowly went down. My wife and I decided to give it another try... I ordered the Chorizo Huevos Rancheros. It looked nice, but I noticed a crunchy texture and burned flavor on my first bite. A closer look showed that the chorizo was literally burnt to a crisp and tasted like it was cooked days earlier, cooked again, and reheated on the grill just before serving. All the flavor and texture had been cooked out of it. I asked for a refund. If I would have eaten it, I'm sure I would have felt ill. The salsa tasted more like a spicy pizza sauce than a proper salsa. Yuck! It was very disappointing. You would think that a mom-and-pop restaurant in Arizona would know how to make Huevos Rancheros and salsa, but not this one. My wife ordered the Bacon and Spinach Omelet. The eggs were cooked nicely, and toast was fine, but the bacon was obviously pre-cooked and recooked to the point where it was almost unrecognizable - kind of like shredded bacon powder. The hashbrowns suffered from the same treatment. They used to be delicious but now they are obviously pre-cooked, fried and then refried, oily, mushy, with a burned flavor. The food comes out fast but it's barely edible. Our server, Sarah was very sweet and there were no issues with the service, but the quality of the food will keep us away. Staff is very friendly and accommodating with menu changes. Biscuits and sausage gravy are delicious and savory! Sausage patties are fresh cooked to order and amazing flavor. We took our kids who are 2.5 years old and twin 7 month olds and that may have been a mistake- our kids are well behaved for their ages but obviously are babies and a toddler so they do make some noise and wiggle. The restaurant was not busy but the waitress only refilled coffee once and that was when she was bringing the check. The gravy on the chicken fried steak was overly sweet. My husband's French toast came with no sides which seemed weird for a breakfast meal. Overall it definitely seems like a "regulars only" kind of joint. read more

We were in this part of town for a doctor's visit and decided to find a place to have brunch and spotted Wonderful Wanda's. With a name like that how could we not try it, so we did. It's a relatively small nondescript place in a strip mall kind of situation. They were really busy when we visited, which is indicative of how well liked the place is. I'm sure they have a well deserved local following. I had the chicken fried steak and eggs and my wife had violet's classic Benedict, and both were excellent. Service was friendly and prompt and the decor basic, but nice with a number of excellent framed pics of the Grand Canyon nicely displayed on the walls. The big question for any eatery - would we return - and the answer is, yes. This was an excellent brunch experience and we'll be back. Wish we lived closer. read more

Stumbled on this place about a month ago because I didn't want to go to a chain breakfast place. When I got there, I was happy to see that the owners are from small towns in Nebraska. I ordered the breakfast burrito, which was delicious however the salsa flavorless so luckily there was some hot sauce on the table. The next time I went back, I took my husband and he got the chicken fried steak and I can't remember what I got, but it was really good. My third experience was a to go order and I ordered that same breakfast burrito and got home and it was 90% Bacon. It was inedible. I threw it in the trash. I don't know if the place is inconsistent or if getting items to go is not a good idea. The service has been good with the wait staff being friendly. I have mentioned that I'm also from small town in Nebraska and wondered if the owners were there and both times they said no the owners weren't there so that was a little disappointing. Their menu doesn't really represent to me. what the menus in small town Nebraska cafés have but overall I liked the quaint atmosphere. I have eaten at a lot of a small town cafés in Nebraska (due to a travel job I had for 15 years that took me to many small towns in the state) and they all have a daily lunch special. Came here on a Sunday morning. The wait was not too bad. We were told 30-35 mins and only waited maybe 15? This is your typical local owned, feel good, breakfast spot. Service was friendly and they had good options on the menu. Portion sizes are good. My friend ordered their breakfast special which was a pancake topped with strawberries, eggs, bacon and hashbrowns. I got the meat lovers omelette. I would certainly say they did not skimp on the amount of meat they put in the omelette! I tried some of my friends pancake and it had good flavor and was chewy/fluffy. Good experience here and I would come back. read more

It has been awhile since I have enjoyed service above and beyond what is generally expected. This place ROCKS! Hot coffee, quick ordering and then unbelievable delivery of food - so quick and accurate. At check out time, a fresh to go coffee was given and this was a big surprise. We ate breakfast two times while in Arizona and had a top notch experience both times! Brandy and her staff are amazing - kind and welcoming, fast and efficient! The first day - my husband had the Ross and I had the Eggs Benedict and they were both SO GOOD! The second day - my husband had the corned beef hash and french toast and I had the breakfast sandwich on a bagel - once again AMAZING FOOD! Great prices and a fun, small town atmosphere. First time here at wonderful Wandas young lady moved from Nebraska to Arizona and started a new life. The place is small, but quaint, personal service by the owner scratch made food I had the Monte Cristo, which was awesome. I'm actually taking some home because it was so big coffees delicious. If you can believe this, but this was actually our third choice for breakfast. See, we were looking for a nice spot to eat outside on a patio for breakfast but our first two choices in the area with patio seating didn't actually have chairs and tables set up when we arrived. Luckily, I saw Wonderful Wanda's while driving around, with a nice little outdoor setup so we turned back around and decided to try this spot out! It was really busy with a lot of customers inside but plenty of seating outside. It was a cloudy not-as-hot morning so eating outside was perfect for us. Our server was attentive and very sweet. I ordered the South of the Border omelet and had a bite of the redneck benedict. Both dishes came out in flying fast time and looked delicious. The omelet was soft, fluffy and filled with house made chorizo, plenty of green chili, and ooey gooey melty jack cheese. Good stuff! A small container of sour cream was served on the side, as well as some salsa. The meal was served with 4 triangles of toast which were pre-buttered. Unfortunately half of the toast triangles were super soggy but the hash browns that also came with the meal were superb. While I won't be investing in mullet hair couture and breaking out the Jeff Foxworthy comedy albums anytime soon after ingesting a redneck benedict I did appreciate the hearty gravy, house made sausage and fluffy biscuit underneath the pile o'sauce. For great outdoor seating and generous breakfast portions with friendly service, Wonderful is truly the best way to describe this place! It was a lucky accident that we stumbled upon this restaurant so thanks to the other two breakfast spots for not bothering to get their patios set up haha. read more

Despite being one of their signature items, the Corned Beef Hash single handedly kept this from being a solid 4 star experience. Im always glad to see Corned Beef Hash that isnt potted or minced. But it was served some parts cold some parts warm(er). Which means it was pre-made and either slapped on a flat grill briefly or microwaved. It also tasted ever so slightly off, like something had turned. Sure enough i didnt feel so great later in the day. If it wasnt for this i would applaud the service and simple breakfast fare. read more

I've always wanted to eat here as I'm always seeing positing about it on my news feed but everytime I'd want to go out would be closed due to Covid, then maintenance or something I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GO!!! YAH I drive by here often and never noticed it. The location is easy to find but I've never noticed this location prior as it's a strip mall with other businesses in it but it's a smaller stip mall. Who knew‍‍ First impression was, again, never knew this was here. Secondly, the staff were all so nice especially DAVID AND BRANDY! If you're a coffee drinker this spot will keep your cup full at all times without you having to wait, which is a huge plus!!! This alone will have me returning The service is fast paced as it gets busy here and you won't have much time to chit chat as they need the tables for other customers so if you want to catch up with that chatty pal, bring them here as you would definitely be in, eat, and out before you know it. Thanks Wands The staff doesn't rush you but, the wait line will ( courtesy ). The pancakes are HUGEEEEEE and you get plenty of BACON which is a HUGE PLUS!!! Yum! We found this gem while yelping places on our way to the outlets and my community members didn't steer us wrong. Upon arrival, it's a seat yourself establishment with inside or outside options. The waitress quickly brought over menus and offered beverages. I went with the Farmer Breakfast Burrito and my husband got the Kings Breakfast while my kiddo got the pancake kids breakfast. It was a ton of food for the price and sooo delicious! All ingredients in the burrito melded perfectly and were mixed properly so I never got too much egg in one bite- you know what I mean. Oh. My. Goodness. I had heard about this place in other searches for amazing breakfast, and idk how or why I passed it up until recently. It's like 5 minutes from me, and the food is SO good!! I honestly wish it was further because I feel like I'm going to be here 1-2 times a week now. The portions are pretty good - you definitely won't leave hungry, and you'll probably have leftovers. I ordered the cinnamon raisin French toast on a whim. I love cinnamon raisin toast, but I typically shy away from sweet breakfast dishes. Something was calling my name though, and I'm glad it did because it was insanely good. Ya know when you see or smell that cinnamon roll or sweet waffle, and you're like, "omg that smells amazing, but I know I'm only going to take a bite, and not want more"? This was 50% of that moment because I had to stop myself from eating the whole plate. The slices were fluffy, soft, and just the right amount of sweet. 10/10 will order again and would recommend for anyone on the fence. Now normally I wouldn't write about a ham slice & some scrambled eggs, but honestly I feel like I have to. Lately I've had some really strange ham steaks where it's overly fatty, too thick, bland, etc. Not at Wanda's! I was like (*o*) finally!! One that's cooked right, and I don't have to cut half of it off. Then the scrambled eggs came in here like BAM! Perfect cook. REAL eggs - so real there was a little shell in it lol but I didn't care because I was just happy the eggs I was eating didn't come from a carton. My boyfriend order the breakfast Cuban, and he said it was really good. I personally don't like any ingredients in a Cuban, so I cannot confirm or deny, but based on my food, I'd bet it was absolute fire. He took half of it home because it was super filling (but he def started eating at the rest of it while we waited for the check). The service was fast & friendly, and though it's a quaint spot, it wasn't overcrowded.
