For a delicious comfort food stop, this is it. Covid precautions were done well. Our food was fantastic. Wife had a huge chicken fried steak that was tasty along with a huge plate of hash browns and eggs/toast. I had the portuguese skillet which was heaping on the plate. The potatoes were nice and crispy, sausage delicious. Our son had a waffle with eggs and bacon. We could not finish it all, everything was so good. Came here for the first time for Fathers Day. Upon walking in, the woman right in front of us behind the desk never looked up or even acknowledged we were there. We sat down to wait. Finally got a table and I sat my purse down. Took forever to take our order. The waffle I got was good, everything else was not. The biscuits were super dry and seemed old. My gravy on top was almost cold. My husbands meat was cooked way more than he asked. His hash browns were almost burned and tasted like old oil. When picking up my purse, I discovered how very dirty the floor was. Our waitress never gave us our bill, we waited almost a half hour after eating before finally just going up front to pay. My daughters apple juice was $4!! The small cup of coffee was $3. May come once more to try lunch but not likely. I was shocked when I entered the restaurant with my county mandated face mask on to see the cashier without a mask talking to an unmasked customer. The customer walked past me as I was waiting to be seated and looked at me with my mask on and made an approving sound. I was disappointed to see several customers coming in the door, no mask, and no attempt by the management to require masking. I was unimpressed with the lack of respect for others by the management and customers. Given this, I will not be patronizing this establishment again. read more

To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect when we drove up to this place but it is definitely a unpolished gem in the middle of a bunch of rocks. The breakfast here is amazing especially their waffles, which they've won countless awards for. They even make Bacon Waffles for you bacon lovers, that consists of bacon on top with bacon in the middle of the waffles, it sounds pretty nasty but it's actually quite good. The decor is very run of the mill, (What can you expect your in the middle of nowhere), but the service here was great! Our waitress was funny, friendly, and very helpful. Eventhough, this is about a 5 minute detour, from the 88, I'll be making this my stop for breakfast on my way up to Kirkwood. read more

My hopes were it was going to be big country eating, like Cracker Barrel or the Original Pancake House. Unfortunately, it's more like a Denny's. "Belgian" waffle was Eggo thin and while I could get it with bacon AND pecans, it didn't hold up. They sure like their bacon salty. Waitstaff was minimal in both help and frequency. The walls of this place bleed desparation of a forgotten foothill town, burdened by the elevated big-city movement of its large Indian casino. I had the Mediterranean omelet. It was fluffy and a perfect balance of feta, spinach and sautéed onions. Hash brown was nice and crunchy. Biscuits and gravy were OK. Too much gravy. Next time I would order gravy on the side. My friend had the waffle combo and thought the waffle was excellent. High marks on the hash brown too. Service was slow and inattentive but it was around 2pm and looked like they were under staffed. Next time I'm in the neighborhood I'll definitely come back. read more

Food quality and size have continued to dwindle over the years. The real complaint is with their excuse for service. I have been eating here since I was a child but have slowed going after having to deal with insults from a certain waitress. A few weeks ago, I was getting my car fixed down the road and stopped by to get some breakfast while I waited. The same waitress that insulted us in the past cut me off at the door. Rather than asking if I was ready to be seated she gave attitude. I didn't feel like dealing with her again so I requested a different waitress because I didn't feel like being insulted that day. Her response of "I don't even remember you" didn't change the fact I didn't want to put up with her again. When I repeated that I did not want her as my waitress, she started screaming and told me don't come back. This is the 3rd incident I have had to deal with from this cashier. I will be taking her advice and not coming back. I recommend everyone else do the same and avoid the headache. read more

Came here on a Saturday morning around 8:30. We were seated immediately and checked on regularly. Kate or Katie our waitress was attentive. She even gave my one year old a banana as starter. Have had a few waffles this year that weren't bad and today we went to the Father's Day special T-Bone steak special, and the steaks were surprisingly good, but the potatoes were awful and they failed to have the banana cream pie that was in their ad and supposed to be the dessert included. They still have a lot of work to do to get back up to the excellent standard they once set. Also, the manager who I think runs a fairly tight ship was not there today. On the other hand, there was a lot of extra staff, and they had to move very large numbers of people which they were doing fairly well. i don't know what other reviewers are talking about when they say the waffle palace (my name for it) is understaffed or that the waitstaff are slow. we eat breakfast here every other week and have never experienced anything like that. the waffles, especially the cherry, are lovely; they have real buttermilk pancakes; omelets are huge and packed with stuff (try the shop omelet for tons of meat); they have huevos con chorizo as a breakfast special on occasion (ask for jalapeños!!!); i LOVE their coffee; and they have yummy bacon. Sherry is our favourite waitress (we've known her since we all lived in the SFBA and were DELIGHTED to find her up here). the staff keep your coffee cup full and there's only one waitress who is a pill, so avoid her (she's really short W/O glasses). ***UPDATE*** Sadly, Sherry has retired now (Jan 2013), so ask for Laurie, especially if you have cats! she's now "our" waitress after Sherry's sad departure. we'll miss Sherry, but Laurie is as perfect as Sherry was and makes our breakfasts just as special. read more

I've always gotten a nice waitress with a big friendly smile on her face. And the food is your typical American breakfast food. No complaints there! We have eaten here dozens of time over the years even with all the different owners. Today was the worse, neither of us even finished it! The hash browns tasted nothing short of the grease they cooked it in, the corn beef hash was nothing but a, for lack of a better word, gross taste of moosh! This is always been my favorite shop until this morning We ordered two meals to eat there and three meals to go and I don't believe the waitress liked her job today because of that in the to go meals she put open syrup packages (used) so they spelled out all over the containers and our car. We wanted a strawberry waffle, With the strawberries on the side so the waffles did not become mush on the way home. She neglected to tell us that ordering the topping separate would be an extra $2.00. That the biscuit tasted like cement and looked like it yesterday's leftovers which was so disappointing. The skillet meal was so greasy, that the bottom of the container looked like an EPA clean up disaster and the potatoes were completely raw. They offered toast, biscuit or tortillas, so what's with the extra charge for these Does toast not come with breakfast. If I could give this place no stars, I would! Went in with four adults and one child for lunch. Altho we were seated promptly and offered coffee, we waited over an hour to get our food! When we asked what was taking so long, we were told the cooks select the orders by size - as in smaller groups got their food faster then larger groups. HOW THE HELL IS A GROUP OF 4 ADULTS AND ONE CHILD A LARGE GROUP? I watched numerous other tables of four come in after us and get their food faster.... in fact, even leave before we received our food! The waitress and the manager were 'apologetic' but even when the manager went back to help get the order cooked, it came out wrong - which delayed one item an extra 10 minutes. My food was cold (grilled chicken sandwich); another's was so greasy she couldn't eat it. I do not recommend this place! I encourage everyone to stay away!! read more
