Still going great, where consistency is the hallmark of this place, maybe not the greatest breakfast foods, but pretty darn good! Always has been served hot, that's another signature of the Waffle shop. The wait staff is friendly and attentive and even when busy you get served in a more than reasonable manner. I say all this after two years of patronage, comprising around 20-25 visits. Of course you'll be emerged in nostalgic ambiance of the brick buildings in old downtown Lincoln. This lends to an entertaining morning stroll to the door of the Waffle Shop. I especially like parking in the old 1930s era garage, couple doors down, in the middle of the block... that is if you're lucky enough to get a spot! it's a little small (mind you, era 1930s) but it's worth checking out. I actually had hope for a nice breakfast, but this time it fell short. The place is always pleasant, historically interesting and this time decorated for the 4th of July, although there were a few US flags hanging upside down in garland. First, the service was excellent, professional, attentive and friendly. Absolutely top notch. The kitchen, however, had some missteps and my meal ended up being at best, so-so. Meh. Looking over the extensive menu the varierty of breakfast options is broad with many enticing choices. This time I went for something I typically wouldn't get, yet sounded good- Ricotta Toast. It comes with steamed spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms and eggs (I ordered sunny side up), plus a side. I ordered Country Potatoes as the side. I also had a choice of toast and went with sourdough. The meal came in a timely manner but immediately I noticed the spinach, tomatoes and mushrooms were barely warm. They smothered the toast beneath it. The ricotta on the toast beneath was fine but as I dug half way through it there were no eggs! I caught the server to ask and when she looked at the plate she bolted into the kitchen. Several minutes later two eggs, over easy, were delivered to the table. OK, but best with it together when first delivered. Also, the Country Potatoes were undercooked, hard and crunchy. My dining partner had poached eggs on a waffle with the same potatoes and enjoyed it all. The portions, as usual, were large. OK, a bit disappointed but sometimes things happen. Still it's a bit annoying when the kitchen falls down on the job. I Just hope it was a one off situation as the food is generally good. read more

I belong to the Lincoln Business Networking Group and we meet at The Waffle Shop every Friday morning. It is a perfect spot for large meetings as they have an upstairs area that accommodates a lot of people and gives a little privacy for a meeting. Every week we have 15-20 people here and the restaurant is on top of it. Our meeting is 1 hour long exactly, and they are able to take our orders, deliver our food, and clear the tables and we still have time before our hour is up. Kelly usually takes care of us and is absolutely amazing. She remembers what everyone's favorite meals are, is extremely personable, and her service is top notch. We thought she would be the only one that could handle a group our size, but last week she was out and we had the pleasure of being served by Jennifer, and she did not disappoint. She stepped in and took care of us like she had been waiting on us for months. Very impressive! I have not heard any complaint about the food from our group either. Everyone orders something different and everyone is always pleased. Portions are substantial, flavors are great, and everything is cooked to perfection. My personal favorites are the California Benedict, the Chicken and Waffles, and the Chorizo Scramble. The ownership and staff are amazing and I highly recommend this place. We enjoy it so much I even bring my daughter here for breakfast on the weekends. read more

I had a little mishap with my hash browns but the waitress was so helpful and brought me out fruit instead when I asked for it. The service is always awesome. I love the atmosphere and the architecture of the place. There's plenty of seating and a small wait because it gets its regulars. It's definitely a "home cooked" meal without cooking at home. 1st of all, Food of my daughter and wife was on Pointe!!! Very good on their pancakes and waffles. Service was good. Our server was very accommodating and caring for my order especially on Father's Day. The ambience was perfect. But I gave a 3 start to the lack of knowledge of the cooks. Ordered Medium steak and eggs at first and then got well done. Then the server acknowledged my order and agreed that my steak wasn't medium , so she returned with a medium rare which the pink in the middle was not medium and was COLD ....WHAT KIND OF COOKS DOES THIS. We visited for the first time this morning and had breakfast. It was really good with large serving. I had the ham and egg special and my wife had the waffle special each for $10.95. Both were delicious. The waitress was very cordial and attentive. It appeared that the chef and or owner came out and visited with customers at their tables. But having dry biscuits and gravy, undercooked hash browns, and mediocre service knock the experience down a little. The weekly special that peaked my interest was the raspberries and cream waffle. At first I was reluctant to have feta cheese on it (because I prefer cotija cheese) but it was still delicious. Both cheeses are good. The cilantro also added a nice fresh flavor. As for the eggs, I didn't finish them. I love sunny side up eggs but I felt like the two different flavors didn't go together. I STILL ENJOYED MY MEAL. My partner enjoyed his omelette as well. I'm not too sure what was in his omelette (though the menu does describe what's inside). It was very packed, even on a Thursday. The wait wasn't that long, maybe 5-15 minutes. Potatoes were way undercooked! Eggs and some cheese, dry. Came with hash browns in the omelette. Horrible breakfast. I eat out often, this was the worse meal I've had. For 1.50 more I got a pancake. I ate that. The waitress asked how my meal was and I flat out told her awful it was! I told her the potatoes were hard undercooked hashbrowns were dry and it tasted dry. I said, but give me a to go box and I'll take it home. She never offered to cook my potatoes over again. She never offered anything and I sure didn't want her to think. We were seated well after 8:00am and at 9:05 we were asked to leave due to it being a busy day. I am 60 yrs old and have eaten in restaurants in every state in the US and in other countries and have NEVER, NEVER, been asked to leave a restaurant. First off, this is a far more upscale interior than shows from the front! Brick accents coupled with a black ceiling, black ceiling fans, and an open air second story give it a luxe-country vibe. Not a plastic rooster in sight! Even the bathrooms are nice. Hospitality is at a premium here. We came in on a moderately busy Sunday, no wait and quickly seated in a gorgeous window seat. Drinks came instantly, a sample of a delicious waffle topping given by the owner, Rami, without asking (when we looked at the specials), order taken promptly, and food came out right away piping hot. Our server Alyssa was phenomenal. They gave me a half order of my Benedict because I'm small and hate to waste. My husband had an amazing waffle combo and it was, as advertised, one of the best waffles he has ever had. Even the bacon was top notch. Coffee and iced tea solid!! Our bill was very reasonable. Have been here a few times and it definitely doesn't disappoint! Service was on point once again! Had the chicken fried steak, home fries, over easy eggs, biscuit with gravy , everything was very tasty! My son had the same and he definitely enjoyed the meal, very hearty! My wife had eggs Benedict with ham and said it was delicious, as usual! My daughter had the chicken pesto sandwich and said she would definitely order it again! We decided to go to brunch on a Wednesday morning .We finally got to try this place out . This location is were Awful Annie's used to be at. It's a very cute historic building. It has cute rustic decor . It's pretty spacious inside they have two clean bathrooms and if you go up a few stairs, there's another area with more seating . When I was there, there was a party of 12 meeting up there, which seems perfect since it's a little bit more private. As soon as we walked in, everyone was so friendly and inviting. We had the pleasure to meet Kelly . She's is so funny and we love her energy and her vibe.! Sierra and Jess are super friendly and attentive they kept checking to make sure we had everything we needed. Rami which I believe is the business owner came out when we were almost done with our food to see how everything was and if we enjoyed our food ! That was such a nice touch super friendly guy ! They made us fell very welcome and more like family we really enjoyed our breakfast ! There was an incident where a elderly woman came in the restaurant she was lost the staff immediately took care of the lady made her feel safe . They took care of the situation, and the lady made it home to her family. Just pointing this situation out because they were very kind. Such great people ! The food was excellent! We ordered the chicken and waffles super delicious! We also ordered the veggie omelette, but we added linguiça and bacon it came with county style potatoes, and also a side of biscuits and gravy. I love this little town! My friends, man, and I wanted to get brunch, and they picked Waffle Shop in downtown Lincoln. It is hard to get street parking here with only so many spaces available in front of businesses. I can see why they love coming here. Amazing interior with decorations on the brick walls. There are lots of half tables, half booths along the walls. There was even a back area that was upstairs area for more seating with an operating handicapped elevator! The only thing that kept making me nervous was watching two small children playing below it while the elevator was raised, leaving the underside empty and there isn't a rope to keep the kids from getting too close. As we sat down with our friends who arrived before us, they said they had been sat right away (and they were pretty busy). We looked over the menu, and Tom ordered the Asada omelet, Jewels ordered an egg plate, and Allen & I ordered the Huevos Rancheros with eggs sunnyside up. Tom, Jewels, and I ordered Bloody Mary's. The Bloody Mary's didn't taste like there was any vodka in it at all. The owner just happened to stop by our table (our friend are regular here) and brought us a little extra of the "vodka" (quotations, bc it's not really vodka, I guess...). When our food arrived, our friends' plates looked delicious... but the Huevos Rancheros looked like a big fat mess. After a bite of the not crispy has browns as I requested... they were barely warm. The rest of my plate was also just warm. I didn't want to complain, but my not crispy hash browns at least needed to be warm if I was going to eat anything. The waitress was nice enough to take my entire plate back to the kitchen and remake the hash browns. I got them crispy as requested the first time, but honestly, I have to say I do not recommend the Huevos Rancheros. The tortillas are supposed to be crispy, and these were soggy. As in dipped in hot oil and not at all left in the hot oil to crisp. The sauce didn't taste good... I'm thinking it was canned sauce? However, the sunnyside up eggs were cooked right... my eggs were cold by the time I got my plate back and tried them. This dish made me cringe inside. As I said, though, I didn't want to be rude to my guests, so I choked down half of my messy plate. I have had a wonderful experiences here prior, where my food and service were excellent. This time, just my service was excellent. I can't wait to go back and never try that plate again! read more
