Stopped off at the Wagon Train on the way from Reno to SF. So glad we skipped the casino breakfast buffet and opted for this small town charmer. It was a frosty day in Truckee, so stepping into the warmth of this western themed diner was a cozy relief. We were promptly seated at a large table in the front window. I ordered a veggie omelette and my friend ordered a breakfast that included pancakes, bacon, hash browns etc - a grand slam of sorts. The pancakes were light, airy, fluffy and hands down the best I have had in a restaurant. My veggie omelette was pretty good as well. Great old school coffee shop, with charm and heart! We both ordered the Junior Breakfast , 1 egg, 2 sausages, hashbrowns and coffee for $9.50 and it was more than enough. I forgot to ask for my hashbrowns well done and they arrived perfect! I have to say, the sausage links were huge, the size of small hot dogs and they were excellent, very flavorful! We had my dog Henry and we were seated in the outside seating area and was given a bowl for him and they more than welcome dogs! The inside as you can see in the pics is a feast for the eyes and is a great family restaurant. Our waiter Cabot was new and told us how e has come here for years when he would visit and is now part of the family. The dishwasher started when he was 12 and still works there, this is a local treasure. What really made me feel at home, the owner offers the band students at the high school breakfast for $5 if they eat everything on their plates! Now that is heart. Love this place! My husband and I have frequented this place the last few times on our way to Incline Village. I take offense to one of the yelpers comments about "police worship"! I want other yelpers to know that she is trying to make this place political! This place not only serves awesome food, but they have great service! Albeit, sometimes the service is a little slow, but what you get in return is worth waiting for! I grew up on a farm, and this food reminds me of what my mom and dad used to cook in my youth! The pancakes are my favorite! They are fluffy and hot and they will even warm up the syrup for me! (you can't put cold syrup on hot pancakes)! My husband and I are both NRA members and my husband happens to be a retired policeman. And these comments, offend me! I want everyone to know that this place is safe, comfortable and the surrounding people and staff are awesome! This is our go to breakfast place when we are in Truckee. The service is fantastic and we are not offended if the servers are or are not wearing masks. My gosh people, get back in your bubble if you can't handle it. The food is served SUPER FAST! The only two things I'd highly suggest is do some deep cleaning on the chairs and walls near the tables - pretty dirty/grubby. Finally got to try this place out and it did not disappoint! Staff is friendly and fun, menu has options for everyone, and service was quick. The biscuits with the sweet sauce were out of this world and my country fried steak had tons of flavor (make sure to get it medium or medium rare since it's an actual New York strip). The Bloody Mary was a tasty standard bloody (I added some extra dashes of Tabasco and pepper which hit my liking) and the side dish of fruit wasn't your boring melon assortment. We were trying to hit up a brunch spot downtown and the first two restaurants we tried out were closed, so we found this spot while we were walking by. This restaurant definitely has a lot of local charm and is family run and the food and baked goods are homemade with many family recipes. Our orders came out promptly with no issues. I felt like I got a great selection with my order with everything that I wanted to eat, especially bacon! My hash browns were also delightfully crispy. My order also came with juice and they have a good selection including pineapple. The waitress was very friendly and personable. She made sure our orders were okay and she came by to give us some recommendations for the day and was very knowledgeable about the snow and the area. The saving graces keeping this from a 1 star are the neat patio out front where you can sit and people watch, and the fact that they didn't screw up an open faced turkey sandwich (bread, turkey, gravy. Blob of canned cranberry sauce on the side. Bam. If you screw that up, there's no hope for you.) The gravy was actually good, even. The obviously instant mashed potatoes weren't even prepared correctly, super dry and sort of... Powdery? The gravy couldn't even help those. Husband had a club sandwich and fries. Club was super dry and bland, fries were incredibly greasy, to the point that, if you squeezed one, oil dropped out onto the plate. He ate less than half his meal. There won't be much to this review. I stopped by Truckee to check out the historic downtown area and stumbled across WTC. I came in looking for a sweet snack for my trip back home and this aas the perfect spot to get what I needed. My husband ordered a PB chocolate chip cookie and apple juice and I ordered a cinnamon swirl cookies that's made out of left over pie crusts. All I got to say about this joint is that they provided me with good service, friendly smile and great tasting goodies all for $5. Cute place, quirky, prob one of the older restaurants in the area. Super friendly waitstaff, good, fresh breakfast food- portions are large- the two of us only eating 2/3 of the food served. Inside and outside seating options. Some alcohol options such as Bloody Mary, mimosa, screwdrivers, beer, etc. There's a bakery inside with some delicious looking goods baked in-house. Such a great old school diner. They have homemade jam which was excellent! The place was packed and the two waitresses handled it like bosses. My partner had the meat lovers scramble and loved it. During a day trip with some friends to Truckee, my friend texted on the way and asked if I wanted to meet at Wagon Coffee Shop. With not enough time to open my Yelp app and check it out, I really wish I would have. If I would have known sooner I probably would have whipped out my phone, sent a group text with a not so subtle hint that breakfast was not going to happen here, followed by a GIF that would have included a cartoon wearing a shirt that said "Yelp critic". This restaurant is a small coffee shop located by a bunch of cute shops and is seat yourself. There are some big tables in the back that fit can fit groups over 5. We all sat in the back but had to clear off our table. There wasn't that many people in there and the servers were just hanging around. The waitress came over and took all the orders. I ordered a bloody mary, however, when I asked what kind of vodka they carried I was given a dirty look and told just regular vodka. Regular vodka like UV was what I was thinking. My biggest fear when ordering a bloody mary but it was worst. Im 99.9% sure it was Smirnoff but atleast I was warned. What really topped it off was the brown super soft celery stick in it. I broke off the first few pieces but there was no saving that one. I didn't expect a fancy bloody mary filled with all the fixings but rotten celery stick? I'm not down with that. The food came out pretty quick I had the chocolate chip pancakes. Seeing that my drink was not a great start, and eyeballing the salad bar that had every topping mixed in and dirty utensils, pancakes sounded the safest. I lifted up one to butter it and a found a few french fries mixed in it. That wasn't in the description on the menu of those two flap jacks. I also had tasted some of the french onion soup which I was warned that it was extremely salty but proceeded any ways. Holy Salty Batman. It was basically Morton's salt with onions in it. I'm not sure why a restaurant who knows it's that salty wouldn't change it because the overall flavor wasn't bad once you got past the salt factor. Service was rude and grouchy. Asked for waters 3 times and never received. Place was beyond dirty. I wanted the bad reviews to prove wrong but I just can't find one good thing to ever come back. read more

I stopped in here after a long night in Reno and it was OK. We tried to go to the squeeze inn, but it was too packed so we went here. It's not the cheapest, healthiest, freshest, or cleanest place but my friend and I weren't really looking for that. We were just looking for coffee, food and water. I told the waitress that we needed a lot of water and she brought us 2 pitchers (nice touch). I ordered a big greasy meal to calm the chaos in my stomach and proceeded to go to work on my pitcher. I flagged down the waitress again and asked if anyone had ibuprofen. She said no at first, but came back with 3 for me. The fact that she was willing to break several laws to help out a guy in need adds a star to this place. The food was pretty standard diner food, nothing special. Portion size was very good but prices were high for similar menu items found elsewhere. Lunch cost about 2x for two what it typically does, I had a turkey sandwich and Ron had a turkey BLT with a cup of chile and we both took home 1/2 the sandwiches because they were stacked a mile high! We ordered 3 chocolate milks and a hot chocolate and they didn't bring them out or say anything to us for 30 minutes. Finally we asked about them and they said they are out of milk now. We get our food and the chicken fried steaks were terrible. They tasted burnt and very salty. The hash browns were not good either. There were 10 of us in our party so the wait was going to be awhile... our family was hungry so my bro in law walked to wagon train and asked if they could fit 10. And I tried their fries and whoa... that's a delicious fry! It's light and crispy, I think has a very light batter... just pure fry heaven! After she took our order, another woman came and took over for the woman that was helping us. This new person was holding and eating a sausage link with her bare hand. After finishing eating her sausage, she began to bag up the cookies we ordered; needless to say I was appalled. I ask her if she would wash her hands or put gloves on before bagging our cookies. I was looking for a bite to eat and everywhere else was too busy or closed, but this place takes the cake for how hostile it is.
