Awesome restaurant - great service and the award winning burgers are amazing. Parking: it was a Thursday night and we had to park in a parking garage because all of the street parking was occupied. The parking garage was wel within walking distance so even on a chilly night, it wasn't that bad. And it was nice to experience the vibes of a new city. It was pretty busy so there were a lot of people walking around. Outside presentation: the restaurant was built basement level so you had to walk down a small flight of stairs from street level to enter restaurant. No big deal, it added more mystique based on the architectural design. Inside presentation: pretty small inside, enough room for 75 people or less. However, this didn't affect my experience because the capacity wasn't full. The ambience was pleasant, definitely a pub type of vibe, but with class. Service: AMAZING. Our waitress was friendly, she was informative and helpful when we weren't decisive enough. And I love servers who will take control or aide customers in a professional manner when customers are indecisive or need guidance. She was on top of our order, drinks and checking on us frequently. She was great. FOOOOD: 5/5 - the menu was consolidated, not to many items to confuse customers and just enough items to make a customer feel like they have a good selection to order from. I ordered natural cut cheese fries and they were mouth watering, addicting and cooked just right. The award winning burgers were everything I hoped they would be. I requested my bacon cheeseburger to be cooked medium and it was perfectly cooked. The bun was lightly toasted and the cheese was melted perfectly. Truly mouth watering. THE ONLY REASON I gave it a 4/5 overall was because they didn't serve wings!? I expected an establishment like this, based on the entire look and feel, to serve wings. Wags!!! Food- I had the Rueben, it surpassed expectations. The fries were outstanding. I am defiantly coming back to this place to have the same meal. Place- It looks like an old bar. It is an old bar. Doesn't smell of smoke, and you'd be afraid to bring you kids in at first glance. It wasn't busy when we went, we sat in the back and our kids enjoyed it. Service- The lady working the bar was also our server. She did a good job and even took time to show my kids a magic trick after my kids tried showing her one. She was very nice and didn't get phased my by grumpy father-in-law who was complaining about their coffee. Great little bar right in the heart of old Fredericksburg. Park in the garage across the street you can walk here in 5 minutes. The atmosphere is friendly and neighborhood bar like. Yes, Wags serves up a really good burger. I got the Wag burger medium-rare. It comes with tomato based sauce, onions, provolone cheese, and chips. The burger was perfectly cooked and came out like in five minutes. I ordered two draft Yuengling to wash it all down for around $10-something, on a hot 95 degree day. If you love beer and burgers, Wags is your place. Wags is probably the best burger & beer combo value in Frederick! P.S. You can have any beer you want on tap, as long as it's Yuengling. The "best burgers", I wouldn't say that at all. I ordered a double bacon cheeseburger - medium rare and it was well done, what a disappointment. The bacon cheese fries were okay but, they were really greasy and no flavor. I also didn't know and wasn't told when asked if I wanted ranch or sour cream to go along with the fries, that would also be an additional charge of .95 cents and to boot I was cheated out of my pickle. Came here with my volleyball team after our tournament. We were looking for a divvy bar since we were all in sweats that had cold beer and good burgers. This place looks like it hasn't changed in the past 20 years. It is your classic basement bar with lots of browns, wood, and low ceilings. There is seating at the bar and then a bunch of 4 person tables. So it isn't great for big groups since you have to split up. There was only one waitress in the place and she did a good job in keeping up with all of the tables. The reason I am giving it such a low rating is the burgers are rather expensive, even if they are pretty good. Also, none of us noticed, but adding fries to your burger is an additional $3+. Granted I was very hungry from playing all day and they do have a classic flavorful burgers and lots of topping options, but I was kinda surprised by a $19 bill for one beer and a burger. Also, they only have one or two beers on tap. So if you are looking for good draft beer this isn't your best bet. Overall, if I am in Fredrick I will probably grab a drink here again for the divvy atmosphere, but will probably skip the burger. read more

First off, I know this is a bar. But we called ahead and asked if kids were allowed at 515 on a Saturday. They said yes and even had nice high chairs. Our waitress clearly did not get the memo that kids were welcome. She was obviously irritated that we were there, and I even overheard her complaining to other customers that she cant wait for the kids to go to bed and one just spilled a drink. My daughter is 6 and was completely behaved. My 1.5 year old threw his toys from time to time but never hit anyone and never got in anyones way (including hers) and I picked them up. He sat there and ate his food. About the drink - MY HUSBAND knocked over a QUARTER glass of WATER and she complained about my kids causing a mess and literally threw napkins at us and walked away. She also never got us two of our drinks we ordered. Miserable waitress and not inviting. This tiny burger joint packed big flavor into my bacon cheddar jalapeño burger! The bacon was crisp and the cheese was melted over the top of it to keep it in place-so smart! The fries were fresh, perfectly cooked, and on par with Five Guy's fries, my favorite. Happy hour is 2 for 1 domestic so I enjoyed quite a few Angry Orchards with 7 of my friends! The bartender had perfect timing on asking for my food order and keeping those Angry Orchards coming. It was like she had a sixth sense. To get this place to a five star rating, they'd have to tidy up a bit behind the bar and refresh the interior. A bit more lighting would help, too. Waitress is a scam artist!! A friend and I ordered two wag burgers,fries and two drafts. Paid cash and added 20 % tip. FYI my friend and I both counted the money twice and made sure the tip was included. Paid with twenties, one five and ones. Scammer takes the money and comes back to the table and says we short changed as she was showing us the currency given to her. Oddly enough the five was noticeably missing. I told her she was wrong we both counted the money. Here's the clincher. With no argument she says "oh ok sorry! If she was really short changed she wouldn't have walked away so easily because that would have been her tip she'd been ripped off of and/or would have to make up the money out of pocket! Went here with the wife recently and loved it. We had cheeseburgers, beers, and a pile o' fries for about twenty bucks. Not bad if you ask me. It's even better now that there is no smoking. The food came out pretty quickly but was definitely cooked properly. The cheese on my burger was melted over the bacon, which is awesome because the cheese helped the bacon stay in place and not fall all over the table. The lettuce on this burger was pretty cool, it was like a finely shredded lettuce that I really enjoyed. Boyfriend really enjoyed his sandwich as well. The fries were delicious!!! They were like the boardwalk fries that you can get on the OC or Delaware boardwalk. They were a bit hot when we first got them, which is fine, except that you want these so badly because they smell amazing that you burn your tongue because you can't possibly let them wait a few minutes to cool. Next time I want to try the fries with cheese and/or bacon bits on them. For what you get, the food is pretty cheap too. I think you have to be specifically looking for Wags to actually go there. I saw them on Yelp so, when we were downtown last week, we opted to pop in for lunch. Turns out we have passed this place numerous times without noticing it. I guess we just never looked down. It's very dark inside and definitely has the bar vibe. Their menu has pretty much any type of sandwich variation you could want. I went with the cheesesteak and got my son a basic ham and cheese wrap. I thought each was pretty good but was not digging the fries. They were light and not greasy at all, which was nice, but they were also lacking any real flavor and were almost spongy. Maybe the trick is to get a topping on them or something. Overall, I liked the ambiance and the staff was pleasant. I think this could prove to be a solid place to grab a quick sandwich, wrap or burger. They were decently busy for lunch on a Monday so I would say other people agree. In my opinion, the best burger in Frederick, MD and in my top 5 of all time. Wags is a very unassuming place. It's on the basement floor of a building on Market St. in downtown Frederick (you have to walk down stairs to get to the front door). The dining room is very narrow and includes a roughly ten seat bar that only serves Yuengling lager on draft (as a Pennsylvanian this was wonderful) and a couple popular bottles. There are maybe 12 - 16 tables - not many - so it is consistently filled. This may bother many, but I personally find it cozy. Just grab a beer there or down the street and come back, no big deal. The food is top notch. The burgers are of a good size and cooked perfectly. Their roast beef and pork subs are also excellent and are slow roasted in house. I personally recommend the blue cheese on anything.. The fries are a favorite as well. Order a big batch and ask for their BBQ sauce...good stuff. Also, the wait staff are very friendly. It's nice to have a friendly conversation while having a meal - it creates a nice atmosphere. So if you want a very laid back, "local bar and restaurant" (which Maryland has little of), Wags is one of the best out there. Really, the burgers are some of the best in the area and eating there is much better than some of the stuffy places that are throughout Market St. read more

Visited Wags after being recommended there by a local business owner. I had looked over photos of the sign so, I knew what to look for when trying to locate the restaurant and it was easy to find. The restaurant is fairly dark inside, but it wasn't loud or overcrowded when visiting. My husband and I went there on a Tuesday evening and we were delighted to find it was happy hour (4-7) and there were 75 cent drafts of Yingling. I ordered the Wags burger and he had a bacon cheeseburger. We both thought the burgers were fresh and we enjoyed the fries. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Great customer service! I have tried four of their burgers so far, two of my own and two of my boyfriend's, and each time it has been great. The bun is great, the burger is great. I can actually taste the cheese!!! Some other places you can't taste the cheese at all. Even if the patties are a little small than what i'm used to working at a different restaurant, they will still cook it to the temperature you want it!! Not only do they serve burgers but they also have other cold and hot sandwiches. However I definitely recommend the Wag burger or the Reuben Burger (burger with swiss, sauerkraut and russian dressing) I love the atmosphere here. It looks nice but it is relaxed and casual. It says to me "Come in and have a seat!" You can sit yourself here and someone helps you in a timely manner. Our food came to us within 10-15 minutes. Its not a bad wait. The service is here is nice and friendly. They fit the same atmosphere as the restaurant. It is also CLEAN!! This place has been very clean so far. No dust anywhere I could find, even the bathroom was clean. I want to bring all of my friends here. This place is just great. The food is pretty good here but the atmosphere is not my cup of tea. This place is in a basement and has an old school dive bar feel where everyone used to heavily smoke inside and the smell just continued to linger. It wasn't run down or anything like that, it was just old. And that's fine, that's what they're going for. The menu has so many options but if you're a vegetarian don't bother coming here as it's primarily carnivorous. We got the philly cheese steak on the homemade sub roll and the Russian corned beef sandwich. The homemade sub roll was good and definitely tasted fresh and the sandwich itself was surprisingly good and came with sauteed mushrooms and onions. Heavier on the sauce, patty soft and juicy. The fries were incredibly underwhelming for a joint who boasts the best burgers in Frederick. What is a burger without fries, anyway? Nancy at Wag's, if that was even her name was nice and accommodating at first. She was finishing up her shift and I assumed by what she was saying that someone else would be taking over my tab. She accused me of not wanting to pay my $4 bill then said she had asked me three times to pay my bill. Most other bars allow you to carry on your tab to another server. I'm sorry, but don't accuse me of not wanting to pay my $4 bill just because you want to finish your shift. I found it extremely rude and it ruined my entire evening. I normally love Wag's but I will never be going there for a happy hour where Nancy is the server ever again.
