Great fresh seafood! Seafood gumbo is amazing and the Redfish Pontchartrain is to die for!

The Boat is a bar/restaurant decorated like you just walked in off the beach in Port A. There's tons of beachy island knick knacks on the walls, surf boards, life preservers, fishing pics, game fish mounts, etc. When you walk in the first thing you'll see is a half circle, some would say boat shaped, bar with plenty of regulars posted up keeping their drinks company. Beyond the bar there's plenty of indoor and back patio seating options, and if the weather is any sort of good I'd suggest grabbing something outside so you can take in the river view. If you're here for a beer or drink, they have a healthy selection to pick from. Beyond the regular domestic beers and mixed drinks, they feature a specialty cocktail menu of beachy libations like painkillers, Blue Mermaids, Dosaritas, pineapple rum punch, and a few others. The menu is large and offers all the fried seafood you could think of, as well as burgers, steaks, sandwiches, po-boys, and other non ocean fare. We settled on a dozen gulf oysters to start and I had one of their burgers while my wife ordered one of their salads. Everything was great! It's a beach bar stuck in the hill country, so if you're expecting fine dining this is not the place for you, but if you're craving a fried shrimp basket, po-boy, or greasy burger, you'll be fine. Service was very friendly and quick. Our waitress chatted us up on where we were from, what we should make sure to see and do while in town, and overall she did a great job making us feel welcome. Long review short, if you're looking for laid back beach vibes, there probably won't be many other choices in Kerrville than The Boat.

Fish and chips were delicious but I was told burger seemed like a frozen patty that didn't get warmed up enough.

We could not help but notice the gorgeous bar to the right as soon as we walked in as well as the beautiful woodwork. We were greeted immediately, and upon sitting, our drink order was taken. There is a full service bar, including beer on draft! My husband ordered the Lasagna Classico and I the Pomodoro with grilled chicken and angel hair pasta. Hot rolls and REAL butter were brought to the table almost as soon as we sat down followed by both entrees after about a fifteen minute wait. The entrees were steaming hot and fresh and after our first taste, declared delicious. The waitstaff was attentive and efficient. We ended the meal by sharing a piece of tiramisu, which was excellent as well. There is free parking in a four story city garage literally diagonal across from the restaurant which made the location perfect.

Our server was far less than charming and worse, was incompetent. I truly wondered if she were somehow impaired. She didn't respond when we ordered and seemed put-out when we asked if she understood. Turned out the wine my wife ordered was no longer available (so why was it still on your menu?). My wife made an alternate order, but instead of getting a glass of what she ordered, the village idiot came back with a bottle totally unrelated to what my ordered and offered that. My wife politely refused, I got my beer and my wife got nothing. OK, maybe they needed to open a bottle and it would be out soon. But no. The so called server didn't reappear until our food was ready. At that point, my wife asked about her wine again. The waitress, Andrea, then said, "I thought you said no to wine". Well, my wife did finally get her wine after the fight. Now for the food. In the past, it has always been excellent. But today's offering was sub-standard. We both ordered the chicken Parmesan from the lunch menu. The menu said the chicken was hand breaded. It was not and the marinara was basically tomato sauce with with bits of tomato in it. By far the worst food we've ever been served there. Il Posto, today you failed miserably. And I would remind you that you have two restaurants on either side of you with excellent chefs. You may want to keep that in mind before serving us Stouffers to dine on.

Gorgeous in the afternoon, but I bet this bar is stunning in the evening.

Initially, the hostess told us they couldn't accommodate our party, but then they changed their mind. The interaction felt uncomfortable, as she emphasized their policies for large groups and mentioned that they normally require a minimum of $145 per person. She ultimately allowed us to bypass that requirement as long as everyone ordered an entrée. Our waitress, however, was wonderful and provided excellent service throughout the meal. I ordered the clam and mussel pot, which I found surprisingly bland, though the bread was delicious. The rest of my group seemed to enjoy their meals much more than I did. Unfortunately, there were also some cleanliness concerns. A spider descended from the ceiling onto our table during dinner, and another bug crawled across the table. There was even a bug zapper in the corner of the restaurant that seemed to be going off constantly throughout our meal. For a party of seven, our bill came to around $700. Given the overall experience, the food quality, and the atmosphere, it felt a bit underwhelming for the price.
