Chinese takeout with fantastic prices and serving sizes. Inflation will be in your stomach rather than on the bill. The owners are very sweet and the food is wonderful. We go every week. Don't try to go too late, as they're not always open if it was an especially slow day. read more

Not good. When I was a kid (30-40 years ago now) my parents would only get Chinese food from two places in Fresno: Fung's and Wah's. Fung's is apparently still operating but way too far of a trek for us from North Fresno now (Cedar and Butler, roughly 30 minute drive). Wah's has apparently remained open all these years as well - much closer to us, same location in the Headliner shopping center at First and Barstow. But my parents stopped going there way back in the 90's. Tonight I learned why. We ordered plain pan fried noodles, BBQ pork and chicken lo mein: - The "pan fried" noodles were just flavorless, boiled noodles that maybe spent 30 seconds or so in a wok for color. - The BBQ pork was dry, flavorless and just boring overall. - The chicken lo mein was just horrible, to be honest. Again, boiled noodles with boiled chicken pieces. No seasoning or flavor whatsoever. Unfortunately, a lot of this ended up in the dog bowl. When asked, the two "front" employees there said that the restaurant had remained under the original ownership since the beginning. But it was nothing like I remember as a kid (same for my dad). So sad to see a great family tradition like Wah's fall this far over the years. I expected so much more but was disappointed. Times change, I suppose. We'll be sticking with China Chef from now on. read more

This place is a small to go only kitchen, without a doubt one of the best Chinese food restaurants in Fresno that I have been to. I would recommend calling in your order, prior to picking up the food. This is a husband / wife operation and they work hard just the two of them. There Mongolian beef, (add- water chestnuts) yum! I asked for beef and broccoli w fried noodles and rice. They sloppily put my rice under the beef and broccoli which made it all soggy. Rice tasted horrible as well. Meat was super chewy. Good old style Chinese food. Nothing fancy, but does satisfy the taste for fried shrimp and pan fried noodles. We have ordered takeout a lot over the last year and Wah's NEVER got an order wrong! Wah's never disappoints. The food is consistently delicious, and the portion sizes are generous. I go to Wah's every time I visit Fresno, and my parents who live there, are frequent customers. Being a fan of war wonton soup I've had it from many restaurants and this place has the best I've ever had. I've ride some of their other dishes and they were good with the exception of their egg foo young which is inevitably hard and burned on the outside. I used to come here frequently when I lived in the area. Hadn't been in several years and was on the neighborhood so I decided to pick up dinner before I headed home. I'm in total agreement with Luke on this one vis-a-vis the cleanliness factor. The partner and I stopped here once for dinner, but we left before we could be seated. The joint smelled of old grease, and it was so grubby and dingy that we - both veterans of 3rd World dining - didn't want to stay. If they let their dining room get that god-awful, one can only imagine what their kitchen is like. Honorable Wah: If you want to expand your business to include more than just the regulars you've accumulated over the years, try the following: 1. Close for a week. 2. Buy ten gallons of an industrial degreaser. Thoroughly scrub every square inch of wall and ceiling space in your restaurant, including the area by the cash register, which looks as if it hasn't been touched by so much as a damp cloth since Bush's daddy was in office. 3. Follow with a rinse of a mild bleach solution in hot water. 4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 on your tables and chairs. 5. Thoroughly wash every blackened light fixture in the dining room. Get the fly spots off the pictures, too. 6. Re-paint the walls, and replace the flooring. 7. Hire a biohazard response team to clean and disinfect your kitchen. Although I have not seen your kitchen, I can only image that it needs more attention than amateur cleaners can give it. 8. Open all the doors and windows to give everything a complete airing out. 9. I think that the previous review are a little harsh on this place. If they are to be believed you would think that you are walking in to a stinky cesspit of a restaurant, yet when I walked in it was exactly the same as 99% of the take-out Chinese places in town. I am not sure what all the hubbub is about because everything looked about as clean as its going to get, perhaps none of these people have ever actually stepped foot in another Chinese restaurant? Anyways I placed my order and 5 minutes later I left with a steaming hot, and I do mean STEAMING, plate of food. I got the hot and spicy chicken which despite the name, actually had a sweet flavor in it as well. At first I was worried I had inadvertently ordered some form of sweet & sour chicken, which I hate, but it was actually pretty good. The chicken was good but it seemed like it didn't absorb a lot of the flavor of the sauce, but still it was ok. The vegetables were all actually very fresh, I haven't had carrots that flavorful in chinese take-out in quite a while. The noodles were pretty standard, its hard to mess up noodles.
