Our favorite veterinarian on island, Dr. Peacott, has always been exceptional with our furry family members. He has treated us kindly, is very honest and upfront, he explains procedures and medications well, and he stays current on the literature for the best modalities in care. My dog Kolu goes to the vet monthly for his Cytopoint shots. It's always quick and easy to get an appointment and I like having the ability to text them. Recently Kolu hurt his neck and I was able to get an appointment that same morning. He was uncomfortable when we arrived and hadn't eaten any of his breakfast and treats. By the time we left he was taking treats and looked like his normal self. He LOVES all his doctors, front desk, and vet tech aunties. Thank you to Donna, the manager, for calling (May14th) and apologizing and allowing me to book an appointment for Saturday (May 17th). I would like to add that in the original phone call on 5/5, I did request to speak to a manager or Doctor at least twice. Call me a Karen, but I really wanted to speak to someone higher up to see if an exception could be made but the receptionist told me that the managers and Doctors will not make an exception. Clearly, there is a break in communication there because an exception was made and Donna did mention to me on the phone call she had no idea about the scheduling mistake until I made my initial Yelp review. Reader's Note: I did not attend the vet appointment due to having a prior commitment so my MIL took Komori. Everything I state about the appointment is from her POV. My MIL said Komori was comfortable and well cared for and we were able to get all our questions answered about Komori's health. Overall, it seemed like a great first experience. Why did I take off a star? - Maybe this is just a personal preference but apparently they didn't give Komori any treats. At his old clinic, the Doctors and Vet Tech constantly gave him treats or at the appropriate moments to make him more comfortable. I believe that because this was a first appointment, to ease Komori's anxiety of a new place, new people doing random things to him, some treats should be offered or used to associate a positive memory with going to the vet. - After Komori came home from his vaccinations we noticed the injection site was swollen. We also noticed if we pet him a certain way at the injection site, he would yelp/whimper so it must hurt. This never happened at his old clinic which is a YELLOW FLAG for concern. This review is 36 hours after his appointment and it is still swollen. If this does not go down, we will be returning to check on it. Overall, if we don't come back to check on the injection site, we will be coming back for any follow-up appointments. Waipio Pet Clinic has obviously proven with past Yelp reviews that they are a great clinic, which is why we considered coming here in the first place (besides how close it is to our home). We are grateful for management for communicating with us and correcting the scheduling issue we had previously and look forward to growing a stronger relationship with them moving forward. read more

We came here for my Shiba Inu when we were in a pinch. I had just discovered a flea on him! We got an appointment very quickly! The staff was helpful in assisting with getting him some flea and tick oral medication that worked within hours! It was a little on the pricey side because we had to establish care but it was well worth it and convenient to where we live! read more

Receptionist and certain staff is still amazing. My last experience has altered the way I feel about this place. I had a dog that I took in from a friend that died from Cancer. This dog wasn't eating and looked as if it may be in its last days. Called to make an appointment possible Put to sleep. Was asked pets name I said it hasn't gone there before but, my other pets have, was told not taking new clients due to Covid. Wouldn't even look at possible future appointments. Which I understand the pandemic 100% but the tone and the lack of care is something I never thought I would hear from Waipio Pet Clinic. I guess for routines this is the place to go. Staff are all very nice but their computer system is outdated. We arrived 10 minutes earlier than our scheduled appointment but have been waiting over an hour for paperwork due to computer issues. Would recommend a vet clinic with more updated IT system if possible for you. I would definitely recommend this place. The DRs and nurses here really care for your animal. I found a kitten in my backyard. My niece decided to call him Joey. He was very sickly and looked like he had been left behind due to the high rain in our area (Waipio). While caring for him, we saw that he had a pretty bad eye infection, and we also saw he had worms. We took him to the vet, and they diagnosed that he had both plus a heart murmur. They reassured us that it would probably go away as he gets older. They gave him meds for his eyes, and told us he wasn't heavy enough to get tape worm treatment. After several visits and a couple of months, Joey is a happy and healthy kitten. The reason for the 5 stars is that I was trying to schedule him for a follow up booster shot, and they advised to wait so I can get multiple shots done versus coming in right away and having to spend for 2 visits. Have had very good experiences with working with Dr. Uruu. He is rather quiet but exceptional in follow up and takes really good care of my pack. I've had several lab studies done and results were always provided promptly and allowed me to coordinate getting my dog to the States at the right time interval, I've had several dentals done and the procedures have always been handled very well with positive outcomes. Dr Uruu always communicates to me about his findings and recommendations and I really appreciate this. Dentals are not inexpensive but it was well worth the $$ with excellent outcome. Tried several times, went to voicemail. I was referred bc my puppy is a rescue. While they did respond in text and I did eventually aquire an appt. Today I finally got through to speak to someone and asked if I can add my older dog to their vet so I don't have to visit 2 vets for both dogs. The response was, that they aren't taking any new pets and that she would have to get back to me if/when I would be able add my other dog. :( Needless to say, it sounded like they are too full to care about new customers. A blocked off lunch time seemed to take precedence over serving customers. I have been coming here for 14 years and will never go anywhere else. Dr. Uruu is very informative about what's happening and is so gentle with all my family animals. I like that he is straight to the point. I'm in my early 20's and sometimes I feel like people don't take me seriously as someone in their 40's but the staff and Dr. Uruu treat me as an adult and takes me and my concerns for my animals seriously. The staff is so kind, they remember you and your pets just after a few visits! Any time I call someone always answers, and if they don't, they always call back as soon as they can. My dogs are always getting into trouble and coming to the vet for so many different things, from having allergies to certain dog foods to having their neuterings. The staff and Dr. Uruu are the best. The pricing can be shocking sometimes as it is expensive but I have no problem paying for the BEST care. I have no doubt that anyone who comes here will love it. Dr Nanbu knew my dog had bad cancer and Still wanted to operate. During the operation she told me she found another tumor and asked if I wanted it removed. I said no unethical. still after operating on my dog she will told me he will not live longer than 6 months and that's what happend to my dog AFTER she operated on him. She operated on him only a month and a half ago and he is no longer with me. His quality of.life would have been much better if he did NOT have the surgery. Other vets told me he should have never had surgery done to him. It's like having a tumor removed from an 80 year old grandma or grandpa. They would be better to keep the tumor and just live then to go through the pain,stress and recovery process at such an age. My dog was happy, but I thought removing his bumps would allow him to have a longer and healthier life. However after the operation, my dog was no longer happy, became very gloomy and he didn't eat. I had to hand feed him. I began to see him suffer and I suffered as well. I cried for him and to stop his suffering, I had no choice but to put him down. I could not have the last person he sees be Dr.Nanbu. I wanted him to see a Dr. That has a heart and not a dollar sign in their eyes! Dr Nanbu puts her business first, meaning she just wants to make a profit off your pet. I would never wish bad on anyone, but I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND DR NANBU TO ANYONE. read more

our puppy is a COVID rescue, we too are first time pet owners. Although it has been a year since we rescued our fur child, yet we're still learning the ropes of how to care and all the other medical issues that arises as we raise our fur baby. With that said we have been coming here for an entire year already. Today's visit was very frustrating and i won't be returning to this location. Brought our puppy in for a skin condition on his back and groin area & questions about anal gland sac (our groomer suggested to inquire with vet as to why my puppy is scooting & constantly licks its rear). Exam lasted no more than 7 minutes, the medical assistant brought him back out to me with the saying, the vet will be with you shortly to explain. i asked if they had looked at his anal gland & was told, it's empty & didn't need to be emptied. Dr. Uruu shortly came outside for the follow up. As i was asking him questions about skin condition and the sores in his groin area he simply said, that was the same issue you brought him in for the 6 months ago & will be issuing the same antibiotics but a higher dose. i inquired about looking into doing an allergy test cus idk what's causing it, but this Dr. was very short with me as if he doesn't want to help and kept saying we'll try out the meds again. I know from the last time it did help and skin cleared up. BUT i want to know what can i do differently to avoid it coming back. (the groomer had already suggested to change up the food type we feed him, etc.) Dr. Uruu DID NOT suggest anything other than telling me, try the meds and that's all we can do at this time. I KNOW THE MEDS ARE GONNA WORK but WHAT ELSE CAN I DO DIFFERENTLY?! Then i asked about the scooting & constant licking and he said it's all tied in with the skin condition (?!) told him the medical assistant that brought him back out said that the doctor checked and it didn't need to be emptied. he gave me this confused look like he was caught in a lie or something. as i continued to ask questions about our puppy and how what can we do about his current conditions, Uruu said we'll follow up the next time and at this point i'm already frustrated & confused with the short answers & his body language read that he didn't want to assist me no more but send us off with the same meds from the last time! He said he'll check on the anal gland again if i had time, ummmm i just asked you that and was told Doctor had already checked, told him forget it i'll take my puppy somewhere else that'll be able to help me thoroughly. and he walked away. This is only my 2nd time seeing Dr. Uruu & felt the same from the last time i saw him. I usually see Dr. Nanbu (has helped us with our many questions on obedience, training and random dog stuff) but my work schedule doesn't work with the times when she is in the office. ANYWAYS, i usually never leave bad reviews for places i go to but this was a different type of frustration especially if i was seeking help on how to care for a part of my family. the groomer that we go to gives me the best suggestion and "how to care" for my fur child than me seeing Dr. Uruu where i pay a hefty fee to be seen for less than 10 minutes versus the best groomer @ Petsmart that we see every 3-4 weeks! I'm gonna take a wild guess and bet Waipio Pet Clinic would love your pet too! :) We heard about Waipio Pet Clinic because they offered to have a free initial visit for my puppy. I hadn't had a pup before so I didn't know of many vet clinics. And fortunately, this location was much more convenient than whatever other clinic was offering a free visit. So, I scheduled my first appointment and brought in my new puppy. I remember my dog being very frightened but the staff and Dr. Tamura worked so well with her. Well, she had to get distracted by some Puppy Kong but oh that's normal, right?! We ended up taking our dog to get the rest of the series of shots at Waipio Pet Clinic just for consistency. Each time, my dog seemed okay with it (and she gets frightened easily by sticking her tail under her butt). Quite a few years have gone by and we're still a regular customer here. And we continue to make appointments. I love that they are open later and if necessary, I can bring in my dog after work hours. They are also open on Saturdays which is extremely helpful. Personally, I really like Dr. Tamura. She's very friendly to both me and my pet. Although no one likes having shots through your nose or injections in the shoulders, she comforts my dog and of course always rewards her with a treat. The staff is very, very friendly too and always makes small talk with us. We almost never have to wait long once we come in for our appointments. Thankfully, making appointments isn't too difficult and they send you a reminder in the mail for their annual checkup. They usually have something available (unlike human doctors when you have to wait 3 months for a slot.) My dog has gotten spayed here as well. You drop your pet off in the morning and by the afternoon, they'll be ready for pick up. My pet had no complications thankfully but I had to be very cautious of the wound. They gave thorough instructions and answered all questions. Other places require you to leave your dog overnight. I'm glad my baby could come home so that she's not in an unfamiliar place with a bandage and wound in her belly. I have had two appointments with Dr. Uruu because Dr. Tamura is only in on certain days. In my opinion, I prefer Dr. Tamura because she seems more personable. However, Dr. Uruu was very knowledgeable and helpful too. Honestly, though, I probably wouldn't let my dog see Dr. Uruu unless it was urgent (which it was). I really trust Waipio Pet Clinic even if he seems like a grumpy vet. LOCATION: Conveniently located in the Waipio Shopping Center with Foodland. There's plenty of free parking in the lot. My dog loves coming here because she'll get to go riding in the car and once we arrive, there's numerous trees and grassy areas for her to relieve herself. They accept major credit cards including Visa, Mastercard and Discover. I would recommend this place to pet owners. Actually, I have recommended Waipio Pet Clinic to my co-worker who brought in her cat. My co-worker said for a fussy cat, he didn't mind Waipio Pet Clinic compared to some other vets! :) In the end, it's really your four legged critter who should get to decide. I did not have a good experience with Dr. Nanbu. First, she and her assistant had trouble handling my female cat and seemed afraid of her. They finally had to muzzle her. Second, she was treating my male cat for diabetes. We had to go on a trip and had asked if they could board him for one week, since our pet sitter had moved away, and my male cat needed twice/daily insulin shots. They initially said they could board him. One day before we were to leave, I called the clinic to ask what time to bring my male cat in. The receptionist said they would not be able to board our cat. I asked why and she offered some flimsy, vague excuse, ending with they were unable to care for him. This was after they told us we could board him. This clinic didn't even have the courtesy to let us know in advance that they could no longer board our cat. We had to make alternate arrangements and fast. After this, I never went back to this clinic. We almost could not go on our trip because of this clinic. In addition, after we got back, we took our male cat to another more experienced vet, he reduced our male cat's insulin intake to just one a day, saying that the previous doctor (Dr. Nanbu) had prescribed a bit too much for him. read more

I bring my dog here and I really like it. There are 3 different vets that work here. All of them are very nice and friendly. Dr. Nambu is great. The ladies that work the front desk are suuuuuper nice. They are very good about sending reminders and calling you the day before to remind you about your appointment. They are open all week except Sunday and I believe Saturday's have shorter hours. Our dog loves coming here. The pet clinic is located between foodland and nancy's. There's a lot of parking so you don't have to worry. The reason for 4 stars is because I can't say its as good as it gets because this is the only vet I've been to. read more

HIghly recommend to take your pets to this clinic!!!! The doctor, vets assistants, and even the receptionist were very friendly and helpful. It was my puppy's first visit and I was very hesitant for what to look for in a clinic. The doctor and assistant took well care of my puppy and made her feel comfortable - you can tell they know exactly what they are doing. The doctor explained very thorough of what she is doing, options that we have, and results. My puppy had a bald spot in her back and the doctor gave me all the options of tests they could run and the prices. The assistant was also very thorough in the medication choices and prices. The initial exam was $42 and we purchased medication to prevent heartworms and flea eggs that was $15 per pill (takes once a month). Because of that bald spot they did a light test at no charge and a scrape test that was $22. I only spent $150 total for her exam, all those tests, the pills for flea and heartworm prevention, and antibiotics they prescribed for the bald spot. I was expecting to pay much more but they made all the options available to me and explaining each one with its price! They are totally there for you and your pet from the beginning to the end. I took my childhood dog here, and they were thoughtful and helpful all the way thru her last year of life. I got another dog shortly after and they were nothing but the same helpful and thoughtful people with my new puppy. I love this pet clinic, went there randomly. It was one of the one's on that list you get after you adopt a kitty or a doggie and I stayed with them since. The doctor's are great and the front staff is always nice and helpful. They call you to remind about appointments and send postcards with reminders on when your pet needs to come in for shots or check up. They are loved here, you can tell by all the cards and pics on the walls in the reception area. My kitty had to be admitted there overnight and they took great care of him (as far as I know anyways). I got a huge silly dog and 2 cats and I am glad I have this place to rely on if they need care. I, too, love this place! I purchased a puppy and was told to go to any location on their list for a free check-up. I Chose Waipio Pet Clinic because it was closer to where I lived. First thing that makes this great place is the phone call. Very pleasant and curteous receptionist answered. She was friendly & helpful trying to figure out an appointment for us. Once there, they have very friendly & personable front staff. Even the customers that were already waiting were friendly and bright (and you know they are treated well, grumpy customers usually mean bad customer service!). The wait time to get seen by a Veterinarian was not long either! The vet asst was also very knowledgeable & knew how to handle my nervous puppy. Once my dog warmed up to her, she brought my pup around to meet everyone else! The Vet was also very helpful, she helped explain what she was doing while looking at my pup. She was also very honest and did not try to sugar coat things. My puppy has a heart murmur (not very bad) and she explained it to us gently, yet also gave us what could happen and what to do next. Customer service here is also consistant, I had to go back for an emergency visit yesterday and still got the same, bright, personable staff greeting, nice customers, wait time not long and a knowledgeable/friendly vet asst! I can't say enough about how impressed I am with the care my dog gets here and the customer service that I am provided!! Due to work, I was unable to bring my dog (Kobe) in for his appointment this morning so my grandpa brought him in for me. I called their office when they opened this morning and faxed over a little bit of what was going on with Kobe over the last 2 weeks. Dr. Nanbu is so awesome! Before my grandpa left the office she called me on my cell phone to go over everything (diagnosis, medications, options for treatment, etc). I called the office back to add on additional flea medication that I planned to pick up after work. I authorized Erin to just charge it on my card. She gave me some options on how many I should get...whether I wanted it to match up with his heartworm medication or buy #4 tabs which would get me a rebate. I opted for the larger quantity in order to get the rebate and was glad she gave me all the options rather than just letting me buy #1 tablet at a time which would end up costing more money and time (to drive down and pick it up every 3 months). The main reason that I decided to take Wheatie here was initially for its location to my apartment. HC and I are able to walk here without breaking too much of a sweat. However, I've grown to love this place because of its workers. The receptionists, vet techs, and vets are awesome! Sometimes while HC and I are walking Wheatie, we see them and they recognize Wheatie right away and always say hello. He loves going to the vet too and will always wag his tail furiously as we're waiting in the lobby. They're also very quick to answer my calls. There was one time where Wheatie had been limping in the morning and didn't want to walk anywhere. I called in a panic and they were actually able to squeeze me in that day. Fortunately, the limp went away and I was able to cancel the appointment. Another time, Wheatie had been vomiting and I was able to take him in right away and they made a diagnosis then and there. I was able to get antibiotics for him that day. I do appreciate the staff at this clinic and I know that Wheatie loves them as well. read more

Friendliest staff ever!! I came in with my puppy La'akea and they greeted us right away. I was asked to do some paperwork but didn't want to put my pup down so nurse Jenn gave us a private room to fill out our forms while La'a ran around. I was surprised that the place looked and smelled so good for having animals in there. Jenn shortly came in and put a towel on the exam table and held La'a till he stopped shaking. She gave him a few treats and he warmed up to her in no time. After some brief questions, she gave me the opportunity to ask questions since it was my first time to a vet. When Dr. Tamura came in La'a freaked out and Jenn quickly calmed him down again. I was a little sad cause I thought Jenn was my doctor. Jenn kept him occupied while I talked to Dr. Tamura about the shot process. Dr. Tamura made me feel at ease after answering what felt like 1,000 questions. They gave us a free sample bag of puppy food and even emailed me with a thank you note and reminder for La'a's next appointment. I definitely want to give five stars to this pet clinic. We went in today knowing that'd we'd probably have to put our little dog to sleep. I had my toddler with me and the staff was incredibly patient and understanding through the whole process. They made it easier to say goodbye to our dog Bear. I found a little kitten on the street and decided to keep him. I took him to the nearest vet I could find, which ended up being this vet. This was a mistake. This "veterinary office" is one big cash grab. The actual veterinarian refused to answer even the most basic of questions and tried to tell me my kitten had a heart murmur and needed to have such and such testing done, but would literally just ignore me when I asked questions about the MEDICAL ISSUES he was claiming my cat had. They would always schedule me out at inconvenient times and say "the doctor wasn't in" whenever I actually needed them. When they actually did get me in, they'd sit me in the little waiting office for like 30 minutes before the vet actually showed up to just give me an extended sales pitch. The clincher was when they never scheduled my cats vaccination booster and told me later I'd have to pay for and start over from the begining. I later looked them up on yelp and found similar reviews, showcasing their unwillingness to actually advise the owners of animals on what's going on as well as their BS money antics. I told the vet techs that I was displeased with the vet and my answer was to switch vets. Thanks for the tip. I went to the waikele VCA down the street. Their ability to schedule me in a timely fashion and handle me with due cordiality was a BARE MINIMUM level of competence that waipio pet clinic could not provide. My outdoor cat got a wound which needed attention and when I called late in the am, they were able to see her thst same afternoon. What a relief! The wound was wheeping, itching, and she was scratching it. Not good. When they removed her from her kennel, she was calm and that means the world to a worried guardian. She allowed them to check her, wrap her in a towel and took her to the treatment room where surgical procedures are done in a sterile area. She returned to me shortly thereafter, still in the towel and very calm, and explained what was done. They placed her in her kennel and I felt very relieved that she was treated properly and with care. Advise was given by he doctor as well as his assistant, which I appreciated. I left the office knowing i had made the correct decision to go to the Waipio Pet Clinic. I strongly recommend them if you are a guardian of cats or dogs. read more
