We had a great time with a Captain Ryan with our 7 and 3 year old! Booking was easy. Finding Captain Ryan next beach side of Whalers Village next to UFO Parasailing was easy. You know what isn't so easy? Wakeboarding!! That didn't matter for Captain Ryan, he was patient with us and taught us how to wake board. My husband and I were able to pick it up quickly and it was so much fun! Be prepared to feel sore for a week . My kids loved belly boarding and tubing. We had a special treat while tubing and had a huge pod of dolphins - probably 25 - all around us! The snorkeling spot had many turtles and wasn't bombarded with tourists. We weren't sure what to expect on this adventure, but it by far surpassed our expectations! We started off about to wake surf, when a huge pod of dolphins paid us a visit! That was a sweet surprise. Booking a half day trip with Wake Maui was the highlight of our trip!!! Captain Ryan and his team are amazing! Even before our trip, Captain Ryan called us to tell us about weather conditions and ask if we wanted to reschedule. We could not, and the water was a bit rough for us to wake board the whole time, but we still had a blast!!! We got lucky and saw several humpback whales right at the beginning of our trip. Captain gave us a little history and science background and allowed us to enjoy their beauty for as long as we wanted to. Then we snorkeled and he told us where the best spots were. And he gave us a little history lesson on the places, boats, and things we were seeing. He was amazing and made our trip an excellent one!!! 4 years ago, we had a great time wake surfing with Captain Ryan, and we knew we had to do it again. Captain Ryan is so encouraging and helpful in learning how to wake surf. There's also tubing, which was hilarious and so fun. He also took us snorkeling at an amazing spot with dozens of turtles while he blew up the raft, so no time was wasted. Totally worth every penny! We visited Maui without having any plans because our schedule kept changing. When we got to the island, I started looking into private guided snorkeling tours since we are celebrating my boyfriend's bday. I can't swim but I wanted him to have a great time so I ran into Captain Woody's site. I called and he was fully booked but he recommended Captain Ryan. I got all the info and booked through Wakemaui site and texted Captain Ryan as well. He is very responsive! And was able to accommodate us the next day! Finding him on the day of was easy. He took us to Mala Wharf 1st. I was really scared because I've never snorkeled without holding on to a rope or something since I can't swim but Captain Ryan made me feel so safe! I was able to snorkel around and see some turtles and lots of fishes! He then took us off the coast of the Westin and got to see some natural coral reefs. Very unreliable for booking. We called on a Tuesday and booked for "Saturday" with no date mentioned, and it turns out we were booked for a Saturday three and a half weeks after booking. We called on the Saturday we thought we had booked and asked where our boat was, and the first person who picked up said the boat was probably running late. We waited 20 minutes and called again and someone else picked up and told us they were closed. Do not book here if you would like reliable service. If you manage to get on a boat, I'm sure you'll have a great time, but expect a long and difficult process beforehand. read more

We had a great time with Capt. Ryan Hickey. He was recommended by another Captain as a great captain with a great boat who provides a great time and a safe experience. He did not disappoint. We all (5 of us) had a great time. We did wake boarding, wake surfing (neither of which any of us had ever done before) and snorkeling. Capt. Ryan was completely flexible in terms of whatever sports we wanted to do. Capt. Ryan was very patient with our younger kids and got them up wakeboard and wakesurfing in no time. Everyone who tried it did it successfully. My 16 year old son commented that this was probably his most fun experience of the entire trip. We then went snorkeling near an old collapsed pier which was great. We saw several turtles, sandsharks and lots of fish. On the way back Ryan took a short detour so we could see a giant pod of porpoises. Overall we had a great time. Ryan was a great host, very friendly, knows the area, and the water sports. His boat was very clean and comfortable with plenty of amenities. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. So, i've never been wake boarding before but figured it would be fun to try! Going with my usual breakdown (+3 start) (+1) Captain Ryan is really encouraging, knowledgeable and all around nice! Definitely helps to have such a chill "guide" on board! (+1) The boat is impeccable, great even if you're not out on the wake. Having only 6 people on the boat helps too. (+1) Different options available! Wake surfing, boarding, and even tubing! (+1) Water and soft drinks complimentary on board (+/-) You will be SOOOOOOOO sore the next day. (+/-) Not the cheapest activity on the island, but so worth it! Do this instead of zip-lining anyday. ( -1) The laces from the wake board came loose a couple times in the water, not sure if it's a "user error" or just the equipment Overall: it's 6 stars! Amazing 4 hr tour with captain Ryan! He is very personable and knows the waters/area very well. 4 of the 6 of us wakeboarded and wakesurfed (if you haven't tried it, it's much easier to pick up and easy on the knees!) on a pretty calm morning session. Ryan then took us out to a snorkeling place off olowalu and we were able to get in 12-15' of clear water and see multiple colorful fish and sea turtles. He keeps his boat in good condition and offers soda, water and ice for storing whatever food and beg you decide to bring. Overall a great time and would highly recommend to any small group. I've been coming to Maui for about ten years now and have pretty much done it all when it comes to activities on the island. I am writing this review because of all the overpriced and misguided excursions I've been on. My boyfriend and I finally found something to do where we didn't feel like we were getting ripped off in some way. This company is owner operated and Ryan was a genuine captain who showed us a genuinely good time. On our trip ( I say ours because we had the boat to ourselves) we cruised around the blue hawaiian ocean spotting humpback whales for a while, then we found some calm water and did some wake surfing (even I was able to do it first try), some quick snorkeling to see some turtles, and had some lunch that we were able to bring ourselves (most places make you pay for a lunch that is marginal at best) and refreshments while listening to some hawaiian music. This trip was well worth our money to not be herded around a big ship like some cattle and Ryan's patience and big smile make it hard not to relax and have a blast. read more

We've been coming to Maui for three years and last year we were very fortunate to hook up with Captain Ryan for a half day charter and it was fantastic! When we came back this year our first call was to Captain Ryan to schedule a dawn session and it was AWESOME! I'm not all that comfortable in the water, but with Captain Ryan's encouragement and help was able to get up on the wakeboard on my first try. My 10 year-old daughter says this was the best activity of all the things we've done, and my wife and I agree. Wake Maui is the best activity in Maui!!!! In April 2011, we did our fourth trip to Maui. Our 15 year daughter loves to Wake Board and found Wake Maui online. We check out Capt. Ryan and his reputation was excellent. Our wakeboard, snorkeling and whale watching adventure with Capt. Ryan was the absolute highlight of our trip, which included all of the usual Maui activities. I had never even water skied before and Ryan got me up on a wake board in no time. Everyone on board got up and had a great time wake boarding. When we saw a whale nearby, we got as close as respectfully possible and Ryan turned off the engine. Hearing the whale spray and being that close was mind blowing. Ryan then took us to a great snokerling spot. Before we knew it, we were surrounded by giant sea turtles, which are docile and somewhat friendly. Ryan is a very cool guy and it is just fun to hang out with on his boat. There were five of and it by far is also the best cost deal on Maui. read more

Great time for all ages and ability levels. Ryan so awesome: a great teacher and guide and wish we had spent at least a day, or more, out with him every trip we've taken to Maui (been multiple times). Recommend a day out on the water with him every chance you get. Captain Ryan was great! We had the trip and boat all to ourselves...just me and my husband. I was hesitant at first to try wake boarding because it looked so hard, but after a few tries, it got easier. It also helps to listen to Captain Ryan's instructions.
