Was worried they were closing due to all the crime, but loved looks like San Fran has improved the police presence here, which is fine with me. They updated the freezer doors where the frozen or ice creams are located (in the back of ground level) where it displays what products are behind so customers don't have to open the door to see what's present. Big store, pharmacy onsite on the second floor. lots of stuff here especially for tourists' needs like cables charger, cords etc. Pharmacy folks are all nice especially Christina (I believe she's one of the pharmacists there). My interaction with everyone here is great. There's a guy who sits by the front doors who I think is the Store Manager and he took is great. read more

Date: 9/21/2018 Time: 11:00 AM 68° Partly sunny My sister and I are heading to SF Chinatown to purchase moon cakes for the Autumn Harvest Moon Celebration (Chinese lunar calendar, August 15, which falls on September 24 this year). Since we are walking from the Powell Street BART Station to our destination and return by foot to the Montgomery Street BART, I need a bottle of water for hydration. Thus, a stop is necessary at this Walgreen's. Wow...I am totally impressed and somewhat in awe. It's not like the typical Walgreen's that I see in Alameda and Downtown Oakland. I never knew Walgreen's could do it up like this one. It's a two story one. Ai yah, I have Walgreen's on Powell Street envy. It is upscale and very clean. Ha! I can't say too much about what is on the outside of this Walgreen's, but the inside is a sight to see. Fresh pre-made sandwiches and panini's, bottles of wines on shelves or in refrigerators, fresh salads, assorted wraps, desserts, snacks and candy. Because I was in there for about 10 minutes, and did not have the time to browse, a return visit is a must, so I can see what is waiting for me on the second floor. I doubt this review will do anything but might as well. This store's workers were absolutely abhorrent and disrespectful in their treatment of me and another customer tonight. I offered to help an unhoused person buy a meal for the night. As she was picking out a drink from the aisle in the back (it had been maybe half a minute, she wasn't disturbing anyone), a ponytailed older male employee got right in her face and started yelling "You smell!" and "I don't want you here! You smell!" over and over again. To top it off he physically assaulted the customer as well, forcibly yanking her away from the aisle because he presumed she was "dirtying the aisle with her blanket." Fortunately he didn't escalate the attack, the customer was able to disengage and said "Please don't touch me again." He proceeded to make a comment about how he doubted "she would buy the stuff anyways." At this point I jumped in and stated I would be paying for her things. After freezing for a moment he proceeded to turn on me and yelled "Then GET HER OUT OF HERE! GET HER OUT OF HERE and there won't be any problems!" What problems? We were minding our own business before he decided to assault a customer. Other customers were staring at us, wondering what could be going on in the back drinks aisle of a Walgreens. Needless to say we did not waste our time trying to reason or argue with the worker and left immediately after paying. There were so many other more respectful, understanding ways to go about this interaction. If he truly believed the customer was "causing a disturbance" (Which again, she wasn't. She was picking out a good from the aisle.) he could have easily said so and we could have reached an agreement from there. Or better yet, been left alone to pick out the food and then leave promptly. This was pointless, needless cruelty in the entire sense of the word, meant to do little than demean and violently harass someone quite literally starving to death on the doorstep of the establishment. What's more, the funny line of "the customer is always right" seems to fly out the proverbial window when a *paying* customer is perceived as associating with an unhoused person. This employee was intentionally going out of their way to harass an unhoused civilian quietly trying to grab a meal and someone trying to help them. Needless to say, I won't be coming back. Also I hope this older ponytailed guy with spectacles operating the back aisle at 8:45 pm on 1/29/2024 gets fired. Thanks! read more

I could not believe how friendly some of the folks are in this Walgreens! I was wearing an orthopedic boot on my foot and the security guard gave me some tips on being more comfortable with it. I came here to get my Covid booster and flu vaccine. My husband made the appointment for me, and I could swear it was for this location, but when I went up to the Pharmacy, I wasn't on their books and they believe it was for a location further down Powell. Anyway, the big burly Pharmacist asked me to fill out some forms and his staff took care of me despite not having an appointment! Tonight when I went into this Walgreens to pick up a prescription the security guards at the door told me I wasn't allowed in there because I had been caught stealing, which was definitely not true. Not only have I never stolen anything in my life I feel constantly ridiculed watching other people in San Francisco walk out the door without paying for things while I spend my hard-earned money on everything I take out of a store so to be accused of stealing and publicly embarrassed trying to go into a store to pick up a prescription which my son needs ASAP MAKES ME BEYOND FURIOUS! I don't know if I was profiled or if there really is someone that looks like me that is stealing but either way security guards need to be sure about their accusations. I will not go to this Walgreens ever again, I tried to call the store and speak to a manager in hopes of this not happening to anyone else and I can't get a person on the phone it's all automated. Walgreens in San Francisco have been going out of business regularly and I would think they need all the customers that they can get right now. Anybody who knows me knows I'm a gummy addict. Thinking this Walgreens would have a better selection of gummies, I decided to drop by on Friday, January 20th around 2pm. This Walgreens is a lot nicer than the other ones in the area. They have a huge prepared food section, a large variety of cosmetics, etc. (I believe they even have a frozen yogurt or soft serve machine. And a sandwich making counter? I vaguely remember walking by a section where you could order food.) But I was here for candy, so I went straight to the candy aisle. I spent some time in aisle looking at their selection. They only had a few choices and I really wanted some regular gummies and sour ones, so I decided to grab a big bag of Haribo Gold Bears, Starburst Gummies Sour, and a box of Sour Skittles. When I got in line, I realized they have all their smaller bags by the register. Since I was already in line, I just decided to stick to my choices. A few days later, I found out Walgreens was having a sale on Haribo candy. Buy one, get one free. What?! I had to go and check it out. Unfortunately, this location was not taking part in the sale. I was disappointed since they have such a great selection. But I do remember seeing Ruffles on sale the week before at another location and they weren't on sale here when I went the week prior. I love how I can get everything I need (food, toothpaste, and water)...the only issue I have is there is quite a lot of sketchy people around there....and they tend to walk into the store. This is hands down the NICEST Walgreens I have ever been in. Like, ever. Not only does it just LOOK hipster & upscale, but it's clean too! I can't say that for most of the Walgreens back home in Washington! I stopped in here just to grab some snacks for my hotel room. There's so many choices here!! They have a whole area that's meant just for pre-packaged "fresh" items. Cold sandwiches, assorted salads, SUSHI, and more grab n' go meals. The rest of the store has choices and aisles a typical Walgreens would have, just way nicer and way tidier. There's also a frozen selection here too. For those who like some wine, beer, liquor, etc., they've got quite the selection for that, too! Definitely an asset right in the middle of everything... This is by far the nicest Walgreens I have EVER been to- and I worked for Walgreens off and on throughout my years. This store is clean and the staff is super helpful. There are two stories with escalators for ease. Downstairs you can find all your perishables, drinks, foods, and even sushi (yes, sushi- we got one roll and it was pretty decent). Getting ready for a night out we went upstairs to the beauty dept- we were approached by a staff member, I want to say her name was Danielle - she was amazing! Her energy was great and her willingness to help us find what we needed (Eyelashes) was efficient. She provided us with stellar customer service and we were in and out of there in a flash. I never thought I'd ever be writing a review for a Walgreens but this is the nicest Walgreens I have ever been to! It's a two-story Walgreens, but they had everything I needed on the first floor. I stayed nearby at Parc 55 and came here multiple times to grab alcohol, snacks, and water. It was basically like a Whole Foods with everything you need and conveniently located near hotels. There are a bunch of registers and staff, so the line moves fast. This is the first Walgreens that I have been to that had a sushi section. I had two different kinds and they were actually pretty decent. They got the job done and filled me up! Overall, great Walgreens to get all of your supplies! This is a pretty clean Walgreens but they have all the good Asian snacks in this one. Why don't all Walgreens have Asian snacks and food items? This one even has MAMA noodles with real veggies and base. Oh, my panda, Yes, they also sell beer as well but only from time 10 am-7 pm at this location. Due to COVID-19, stores had limited their time they have to stay open. I have been staying at the hostel around the corner from the Walgreen's and it my everyday location to pick up meals for the day. Now that Walgreen's now have updated their system where your receipts now go to your email if you have a Walgreen's account. Tap to pay is easy and you won't have to spend much time at check out. Some people will hold up the line and there are homeless issues that do happen from time to time at the location but there are always guards and Police on site. Most food items are on the ground level as you walk in and upstairs is other items and electronics. There were at times where people will stand on the check-out line but one register open? then another will open after the line already will or has gone longer. I honestly believe a bag should not cost so much especially if you're spending more than $20 But the good place and happy to see more Walgreen's having more Pacific Asian foods in their stores. When I first walked in, I walked out to the sidewalk to double check the sign. The first floor is filled with food and drinks including beer and wine. They have coffee, smoothies, sushi, fresh fruit, packaged sandwiches, noodle bowls, etc. They have tons of snack foods and other groceries. The upstairs has the items that you expect at a drugstore. I'm used to small town Walgreens - small, slightly messy, limited selection. This one on Powell was large, well lit, and clean. We actually went in here for something to eat, because we were on our way to a play and ran out of time for dinner. They have a large pre-packed food selection in the front, and we grabbed a pita. I found out later they have sushi as well. The food looked nice and fresh and they had four cashiers so the line, although constant, moves quickly. I have been to this one before for things like cough drops or a candy bar and they are well stocked. Although I am not tempted to visit my local Walgreen's any more often, I would definitely stop in here again, either for a quick bite or just to grab something. read more

I am 100% sympathetic with businesses affected by rampant shoplifting. However, that does not mean you have to treat all customers as shoplifters. A $5 food item I wanted was in a locked cabinet (seriously??? $5???.) I had merchandise of more than $5 in the shoping basket. The employee unlocked the case and pulled out the food item I wanted. The employee could not give it to me to add to the other items I was purchasing. The employee had to take the item to the checkout area. we Are not talking about a Rolex watch but a $5 jar of food. Fro-yo girl here. SF finally has its own flagship, upscale Walgreens location. It opened last week and yes, it has self-serve fro-yo. The frozen yogurt bar features 6 flavors of fro-yo (though one machine wasn't on or working during my visit) and a limited number of toppings (about half as many as usual) for a flat rate price of $3.99 or $4.99, depending on the cup size. The toppings bar featured fruit (the berries looked like they had been frozen and were defrosting), popping boba, cheesecake, nuts, candy, cookies, chocolate chips, etc. They had about 16 toppings (a limited amount). I didn't see mochi. The toppings in the refrigerated toppings bar area were covered. It's hard not to make a mess with the mounted dispensers even if you put your cup right under to catch the toppings. Fro-yo flavors of the day: * Tahitian vanilla: too icy, too sweet...but texture was smooth, this was okay * Birthday cake (not available) * Strawberry sensation (not available) *Cookies n' cream * Triple chocolate * Tropical sorbet I didn't see any employees in the fro-yo area, nor did I see sample cups. You get a cup, swirl the fro-yo, add toppings, pay and get a spoon at the register. I asked if they planned on rotating flavors and apparently they don't plan to rotate, so they won't be carrying tart flavors. Many Walgreens locations already carry fresh food, including salads, sandwiches, sushi and fresh fruit but the mega flagship Walgreens is larger (two floors), with more space devoted to beauty/cosmetics (including some brands that I haven't seen before), local suppliers like Café Madeline's pastries, ICEE machines and a fancy Coke machine. There's also a section for souvenirs, electronics, sporting goods and more. I like the faux wood flooring and the general layout and look. I'm gonna give some mad props to this Walgreens in Union Square. Although, there are a few around the area, this one by far is the best one I've seen in SF. Heck, I'll admit that it's the epitome of what a Walgreens should be. I wish we had something like this in LA, cause it'll really inspire me to visit my local drug store. The best thing about this convenience store is that it's designed to accommodate the foot traffic and for people on the go. Not only is the venue humongous (2 floors), it's pretty much got everything you need. The traditional drug store and pharmacy is located upstairs and for you ladies - the cosmetics and toiletries. I'm talking about fully stocked, long aisles, full of merchandise. On the ground floor, most of it is food, including beer and wine. They section off different areas for things like sushi, fruits, snacks, sandwiches, and salads. They even have the Coca Cola Freestyle machine that can formulate over a hundred different combinations of fountain drinks. How about a self serve frozen yogurt machine? I recommend checking out the store for yourself. It's really spacious and quite a sight, even for a layman like me. It's a great place to pick things up for your hotel or maybe grab a quick bite, on or from your way to work. With plenty of registers to match the employees manning them, it should be against the law to make it this easy. read more

A fantastic choice for lunch I also found that they has confectionery for same at discounted prices and walked away with 2 big bags of peanut butter M&Ms for $5 The helpful staff also gave me a discount without a loyalty card when I explained I was from the UK. Wow, this is the most amazing Walgreen's ever! It's open 24 hours and has more than processed food and candy to eat. There's a little cafe front and center with seating by the window. Upstairs is the drugstore portion with toiletries, cosmetics and other health needs. The space in here is more than twice of what the old Walgreen's was. Escalators take you up and down. The cosmetic section takes half of the upstairs. There are also check out counters in the department. It's located in the heart of Union Square and definitely caters to everyone. read more

Wow. Just. Wow. To cut a long story short, it has been quite sometime since I have been in SF. The Nephew #Two is in town. He wanted to go to SF to explore on his own, so I thought I would accompany him. He would go where he wanted to go and I would go where I wanted to go. And we would go back home to Berkeley together. I wanted to browse around Union Square (while he went to explore SF elsewhere). I stopped by this Walgreens after having visited Christian Louboutin, VS Pink, BCBG Max Azaria, Hervé and Apple. I was quite surprised when I walked in. I was expecting to walk into cramped aisle space and complete disarray. OMG! I could not believe when I walked into a spacious first floor devoted almost entirely to food and drink takeaway. And it is quite organized rather neatly. The first floor is designed to purchase takeaway food and drink, electronic accessories, and other types of sundries. One selects, pays, and goes out the door. Wow, there is a second level?! I went upstairs. My goodness--the pharmacy and cosmetics department. It is just as spacious and well organized on this second level too. The cosmetics aka makeup and skincare department reminds me of Sephora in the early days--spacious to move around to browse and study the product. There is a specialist or two to answer questions and assist customers. If I was not already pressed for time, I would have loved to spend some time there checking out and learning more about some familiar European brands that are here in the good old USA. There is security stationed at the entrance and at the top of the stairs of the second level. And these guys look like that they mean business. One word: Don't. I do feel safe at this Walgreens. And next door neighbor to Uniqlo. The old Walgreens had narrow aisles, fluorescent lighting, and was dated. This one has high ceilings and a very contemporary feeling to it. This Walgreens offers food, juice bar, bakery, etc. And a long cafteria style eating counter. Upstairs is the cosmetic area. Kind of like a Sephora but not. And a huge pharmacy. Walgreens could do so much to revitalize the drug store, so much that they create their own Target-like experience or their own mini-mall. Well, it's a good thing they didn't completely overdo this concept. I have been on Powell to stop by Urban Outfitters and Uniqlo many times, but today I just noticed this Walgreens. I have seen the one in the basement of Westfield and the ones on Market...but this...this is a truly new Walgreens experience. The sushi...the cafe...there's so much! I got a lemonade cherry slurpee and it was like $1.49. I came back later and went upstairs to check that out..it's stocked for the traveler. I got 2 packs of earplugs for going to music venues. I liked the experience and will come back. Usually going to Walgreens is so banal, trite, everyday, boring, but this...this was amazing. read more

Walgreens say what?! Imagine your childhood, a European grocery store, Sephora and Subway - all thrown into one building. That is Mega Walgreens. You walk in and are immediately greeted by a huge smoothie, salad and bakery bar with sweets and fruit cups a plenty. They have sandwiches, salads and small snack packs that consist of yummy things like apples and peanut butter. They also have an entire aisle dedicated to Ghirardelli chocolate. There's a souvenir section, slushy machine (what the what!), custom soda flavor machine, tons of grocery items and a massive candy section with candy from all over. Go up the escalators and you are presented by the gorgeous beauty section. The layout is so sleek and sassy - the collection of things they have, from nail polishes to name brand make-ups is insane. Although I did feel like I was trapped in a sweat box. The upstairs was wayyyy too hot. They somehow decided that everything needed to be back lit like some crazy fashion show. Ever since this location has been remodeled, I can't hardly stay out of it. It is a two story all in one store. Yes they have a nice pharmacy inside the store but it is so much more. This location has fresh fruit and many other healthy choices when you're out late and don't want fast food. Not only are there a couple of aisles of self serve makeup, they have a makeup counter with someone who can help you choose and apply makeup correctly. Downstairs there is a small bakery counter, juice bar, self serve yogurt station, sushi refrigerator, so much you have to visit to see for yourself. read more
