Ever since this location has been remodeled, I can't hardly stay out of it. It is a two story all in one store. Yes they have a nice pharmacy inside the store but it is so much more. This location has fresh fruit and many other healthy choices when you're out late and don't want fast food. Not only are there a couple of aisles of self serve makeup, they have a makeup counter with someone who can help you choose and apply makeup correctly. Downstairs there is a small bakery counter, juice bar, self serve yogurt station, sushi refrigerator, so much you have to visit to see for yourself. read more

This is my favorite Walgreens store in the city. I love their deli department, I love that they have two floors, it's just cool all around. For me being local, I don't care about the touristy souvenirs, but they have plenty of other stuff that is very useful. Location is very convenient for me, right next to my new office, so anything that I need I can always find at this store. read more

WOW! I have never seen a Walgreens like this. A make your own frozen yogurt area, with 6 different flavors and a ton of toppings. Deluxe sandwiches and salads. Fresh fruit. A barista stand, and a fresh juicing stand. Oh yea, and all of these items are reasonably priced!!! This has got to be the cleanest and most organized Walgreens I have ever seen. When I went here for the first time I wasn't even planning on going to Walgreens. I just walked by and this extraordinary two-story Walgreens caught my eye! The store is in Union Square and has everything you need from food, drinks, snacks, a yogurt stand, bakery, medicine, toiletries, and more! They have fresh sushi and food they will heat up for you (burritos, sandwiches, entrees)! The prices are reasonable and they always have sales. Everything is so overpriced in San Francisco. Without question the most upscale Walgreen's I've ever had the occasion to patronize, this location elevates itself above the usual fray by offering a nice selection of prepared food in the pseudo-deli bar at the front of the store. Items range from sushi to salads, but all seem fresh and relatively healthy compared to what one usually finds in similar establishments. That, combined with the more refined ambiance, give this Walgreen's more of a neighborhood market feel, which is a nice change from the more typically clinical setting of most locations. That said, this place is patronized by some shifty-looking characters, so exercise caution on late night visits. And don't expect much in the way of polite customer service from the staff, most of whom seem too freaked out by the aforementioned weirdos. read more

You can grab everything from shaving cream to an acai based smoothie. Definitely a little pricier than other Walgreens I've been to, but the cleanliness and convenient location make up for it. read more

This Walgreens was surprisingly really clean and organized despite the heavy foot traffic. Never thought I'd get a smoothie from Walgreens, but the Alcatraz Acai hit the spot since it was blazing hot outside. To be honest I thought the smoothie was better than ones you'd get at Jamba Juice. I also bought a bunch of toiletries I forgot to pack. This Walgreens has a really good selection of brands but I couldn't find anything travel/sample sized in the beauty section. Considering 95% of shoppers are tourists/ travelers I think this location should stock more travel sized items. read more

I am all about this Walgreens! It's right by the Union Square BART/MUNI line so if you are a tourist staying in a hotel near here this place rocks. No overpriced items from your hotel - head to Walgreens! They have fresh fruit, sandwiches, cupcakes and other stuff in a deli area, souvenirs, and standard pharmacy items. I've finally tried the juice bar here and I'm quite impressed! Though the order and pay flow is kind of awkward and slow (you have to go to two different counters), the juices are handmade right there and they taste quite good. I've been loving the Powell Street Station which is a green juice blend with a kick of ginger. The veggies though are room temperature, so I often have to ask for a larger cup full of ice for my small size juice. Not a huge issue since I know to ask for it, but the juices regularly aren't cold at all. Make the juices ice cold and consider this a 5-star rating for convenience, ease, and location. read more

Bad customer service. I spoke with Walgreens associate Rusty and he informed me that the store closed at 8:45pm. The store posted hours say they close at 9pm. The sign outside said Walgreens is open 8am-9pm everyday. After refusing to let me in the store I asked to speak to the manager at 8:51pm and he said he would get management but management never showed back and did not address my concerns. Sure this store has great selection for a Walgreens but... WARNING! Don't spend too much time in the makeup department (upstairs) - they will **kick you out** for being there "too long"/ testing their tester products. I was trying to find the right foundation color (which I'd talked about at length with the woman working there, so it was no mystery what I was doing). Without any other interaction or warning from the staff, a security guard kicked me out soon after saying that I was "making [them] uncomfortable," that I "haven't bought anything," and that I "need[ed] to go. Now!" Why have makeup testers, makeup testing supplies, and multiple personal mirrors/testing stations if you're going to kick out the people who use them? My advice- treat their motto as a store rule: "Get in, get out, get on with your life." read more

How can a Walgreens get 5 stars? Well, this isn't your typical Walgreens. They have sushi! And the sushi from this Walgreens isn't like the sushi you'd get at any drug store or bodega. It's freshly made at a sushi bar *inside* the Walgreens. I'd argue that it's even better than Safeway's sushi. Their fresh food counter also sells smoothies (which I haven't tried) and fancy desserts from Café Madeleine. This Walgreens is also four times as big as a typical Walgreens, so they have literally *everything* you could ever want to find at a drug store. And they sell hard alcohol! Plus, they have the same "fresh" section that other premium Walgreens in the area also have, except they have a vastly larger selection. They have a bigger selection of sandwiches and wraps, and also sell other fancier things like soups and noodle salads. I swear, this is like the Disneyland of Walgreens (except without the long lines because the checkout counter is very efficient). read more

One thing I like about this Walgreens location is the very large display and selection of ready made sandwiches and other food items that greet me as soon as I walk into the store! I also like that there are tables and chairs near the front windows where I can relax and eat. I wish more Walgreens stores would provide eating areas like this one. read more

I walk the extra blocks to this Walgreens in a city dotted with Walgreens on every corner for one reason only: the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine. I know of no other place besides the magical Freestyle machine to get my Fanta Strawberry Zero fix. In my opinion, it's the only soda that tastes as good as its full-calorie counterpart*, and with its limited availability, it's the elusive unicorn of soft drinks. Besides the Freestyle machine, this Walgreens boasts a ton of food options, including a juice bar, baked goods, pastries, deli sandwiches, salads and fresh fruit along with souvenirs, travel essentials, wine, liquor, and an extensive cosmetics section. It's a Mega Walgreens. It's different. It's massive! *I do realize that despite being calorie-free, this stuff is nutritionally negative so I only enjoy it sporadically. read more

This Walgreens deserves a review. It's the nicest one I've ever been to with 2 stories built-in to accommodate your shopping needs. The 1st floor is unbelievable and spacious with a lot of offerings that a typical Walgreens store do not have! You'd think that you somehow entered a completely different world upon stepping in here. It can get busy and crowded but multiple cashiers are there, so long lines move fairly quick. The center section of the store has fresh foods for you to grab as to-go for lunch/dinner. This 2 story Walgreens that is open 24 hours will seriously BLOW YOUR MIND. 2 stories!! Hot damn, I hit the jack pot choosing to stay at a hotel just half a block away during my visit to SF. Intimidating security guards are on active duty right by the front entrance, so be on your best behavior!! Everything from a smoothie & espresso bar w/pastries to freshly packed fruit cups, deliciously packaged cuisines (sushi, soups, noodle bowls, salads, etc.), freshly prepared and packaged variety of sandwiches (I loved the ham & swiss, the chicken salad, & roast beef), assortment of snacks, souvenirs, a self serve frozen yogurt machine, on the shelves-pretty much everything you'd find in a typical grocery store, Ghiradelli Chocolate section complete with chocolate gift packages & etc. The 2nd floor is where you'll find cosmetics/make up, pharmaceutical items, OTC meds, infant/toddler necessities, & personal hygiene items. During my stay in Union Square for 3 days, I probably went to this Walgreens 3 times to 4 times per day. SUPER convenient!! read more

Never thought I'd review a Walgreens, but this one was amazing. On top of its great location in Union Square, the store itself is huge and very well organized, stocked, and laid out. It's really a lovely shopping experience. Downstairs, you will find food and groceries, including sushi! What?! I have never seen a Walgreens sell sushi. I did not purchase any, but it actually looked very fresh and the prices were similar to Whole Foods sushi (which is so good). Upstairs, you will find your standard drug store items like toiletries, cosmetics, vitamins, household items, etc. They should have more of these fancy Walgreens around! read more

This is, multiplied by a million, the best Walgreens I've ever seen. Not that this chain was setting a very high bar to begin with. I walked in for the first time and spent a good couple minutes convincing myself it's actually a Walgreens at all. Here's why: 1. It's well-stocked, modern and organized. Gone are the flickering fluorescents, decaying aisles and understocked shelves of the typical Walgreens store. They're replaced with a setup that very much resembles something you'd see in a Whole Foods. Everything is aesthetically pleasing and laid out in a fashion where the products on the same aisles make since to be placed next to each other. 2. It's clean. Apparently updating your interior brings a sense of pride to both the patrons and the employees. The shelves no longer resemble those of a grocery in Cold War Russia. Everyone is all smiles, with not a single customer in a stained sweatsuit to be seen (a common sight at Walgreens in my neck of the woods). 3. The Coco-Cola Freestyle machine. They really should have these everywhere. Do your best to imagine endless combinations of soda flavors and then visit this machine and expand on that fantasy. Any drink you want, any way you want it. 4. For-yo service station! It's not easy to hand out 4 stars to a drug store that I usually think represents everything that's wrong with the modern drugstore. What Ana amazing Walgreens! Our KS one is nothing like this one in San Fran. The location is great for downtown, to point we stopped in daily and even made late night runs over for items we forgot at home. Overall the place was clean and had great help. There is a line for checkout on both floors and though the lines can seem long at times they go by quick! They have an entire area of quick bites from meals, snacks, to that nice desert to finish off your appetite. They have everything you need for a quick stop! read more

This is now the fanciest walgreens ever! It's 2 floors with a coffee bar serving madeleine pastries, froyo, tons of premade food, a wide variety of alcohol including wine and champagne, and an upscale cosmetics section. The cosmetics section has common brands you'd find at other walgreens like maybelline, olay, etc but also has some higher end ones i've never seen before! There are also beauty consultants on site to help you shop. This is definitely my new go-to walgreens! read more

Wow .. I have never seen a Walgreen's like this one! It is really big and has so much to offer. The aisles were neatly organized and the employees were quite friendly, too. They have two floors and the first floor was more snacks, drinks, Ghirardelli aisle, etc. Some of the prepared sandwiches and other stuff were so well-stocked that I ended up buying one even though I was going to go to a cafe or something up the street originally. They also have a sushi "bar" where the chef makes rolls, pre-packs them, and puts them in a cooled area for you to pick and choose to your liking. I tried one with raw salmon in it and it was actually pretty good. The pricing is not that cheap but it tasted like a legitimate little sushi place so that is all that matters right? The upstairs has toiletries, cosmetics, feminine care products, vitamins, allergy, pain etc etc. There are escalators going up there and a security guard is standing at the top to make sure everyone is well-behaved hehe. The cosmetics area has their own "dressed up" employees who look like they work at Sephora or MAC. This was pretty cool because people usually always seem pretty lost at Walgreens when they are looking through their skincare products. Like I said .. I have never seen a Walgreens like this one and I have already gone there three times during my visit here. I think I will end up going back a couple of more times before I leave. read more

This Walgreens has everything you would probably need on a regular day, great! And I love how they have a "fresh" food counter. However, the sandwiches are dry and things like data cables are overpriced. So, I mean, there's a lot you can find here and it's definitely handy to grab a quick drink, snack, lunch or any of the items from the drug store upstairs, but don't expect high quality from their so-called "upmarket" section. Since we were in Downtown for some shopping, we had to check out this upscale Walgreens after hearing the talk from friends. As you enter the store, you stare at a large island counter that has packaged food items such as sandwiches, sushi, salads and fruits, as well as a self-serve froyo bar, soda and slurpee machines, juices and smoothies that you can order and a selection of pastry and desserts items. Then I noticed the wine and spirits section and the bottles of Dom Perignon and Veuve Clicquot Grand Dame. Wow, for sure this is not your average Walgreens. Upstairs, they feature a large cosmetics section and your other health and beauty products. As downstairs, the store is nicely lit and the aisles are not narrow as in a typical store. Walgreens are a dime a dozen. But they did a great job with the concept to create this flagship mega store in the tourist heavy Union Square area. It might be geared to the average Walgreen shopper, but to the tourists and visitors that want to get some reasonably priced food items compared to what you would expect to pay for this area or for the big spenders that want to pick up a nice bottle of champagne to celebrate and not be charged twice as much by their hotel, this Mega Walgreens fits the bill. read more

This place is huge! I was impressed during my first visit, but it faded after that. They have a counter for baked goods supplies by Madeleine bakery, a smoothie bar with real juicers, a frozen yogurt bar, and alcohol. You would think that I would come here everyday, but all these new things have their drawbacks. The yogurt bar has weird toppings, the smoothie bar doesn't allow substitutions, and some of the bakery items look stale. Also, there weekly sale items are not promoted here, which leads me to think that those prices do not apply at this location. I wouldn't be THAT surprised if this place has emergency rockets built into its foundations. You know, just in case it gets annoyed with the two H&M neighbors it has to deal with. Should things get too sparkly, it can just peace out and find a location with less gratuitous sparkles. H&M peevishness aside, this place probably has rockets in its foundations, and I'm almost 100% sure given the advanced nature of the rest of its features. Do you mean to say that I am in a Walgreens, and I can buy a smoothie, pick up my drugs, and buy the lavender perfume of my dreams all at the same time? Don't tell me you also have to-go sushi, and seaweed salad, and fresh spring rolls. Shut your beautiful mouth. The probability of those rockets is increasing exponentially. If you're a drug store beauty section junkie like myself, be prepared to be inspired by their cosmetic section. They have this "Demeter" fragrance section with every kind of smell in a bottle that you can imagine. From the more traditional scents like lavender and rose, to the more unique persuasions like play-doh and dirt, I'd say these scents have your personal preferences covered. The nail polishes beckon and call to your nail-painting obsession, and the makeup section really makes you believe that you need all of those shades of red lipstick. You really do.
