Slowest pharmacy in the area. Even 'off times' they seem understaffed. Pharmacists for consultation are nice and seem well informed.

This Walgreens has to be the cleanest, nicest, most organized and efficient location I've ever been to. Pretty smart for Walgreens to relocate to 14th from Ulloa, way more convenient because the previous location was always cluttered with people blocking the entrance from waiting for the 48th or to catch a transfer from West Portal station. I like this Walgreens, it has a calming atmosphere for some reason, can't explain it. read more

Since Rite Aid closed its West Portal location, Walgreens has served many of the old Rite Aid customers as well as customers from at least one closed independent pharmacy, and, of course, its own customers. This inevitably means that things can get hectic from time to time. The pharmacy bears most of the brunt but they handle busy times with patience and good spirits. Sometimes though, you can see the tiredness around their eyes. I like this store. It's my neighborhood store and the staff and customers are my neighbors. read more

pharmacy has a lack of urgency that's absolutely ridiculous. if i put in a refill request i should be able to pick it up the next day with no wait. not to mention how RUDE some of the pharmacists respond like you are inconveniencing them... if i run out of my medication i should NOT receive backlash because YOUR system in messed up. it sucks i cannot go to another pharmacy due to my out of city prescriber and insurance. very inconvenient and frustrating service for so many people. read more

It's impossible to deal with the pharmacy. I have been tryin to figure out for 4 days whether this location offers a couple of vaccines. Have called repeatedly and held for the pharmacy, most recently for 97 minutes. Every time I would get to the front of the hold line, it would ring through and someone would answer and immediately put back on hold. This has been the story since Thursday last week (it is now Tuesday). I have visited twice and both times met with a pharmacy line almost to the front of the store. This location is simply not equipped to serve and should be closed until the staffing normalizes. read more

I was questioning whether to come to this Walgreens for my flu shot this year based on all the negative reviews. This was Sunday afternoon: I was on the same block and thought why not just stop by and look since I was picking up some canned tuna anyways. I was the only person in line at the pharmacy. The location and general customer service are great. It's the pharmacy that will make you think twice. I understand everything is more complicated and most service teams are understaffed in the world we live in, but this pharmacy has always struggled. Disorganized, unprofessional, inefficient and on. It takes days for them to fill a basic prescription. I breathe a sigh of relief the few times after I've waited in 30 minute lines and they're actually able to fill a prescription. I went in here a while back to get some groceries for the night. And somehow they completely ruined my night. I was walking around with a friend and we were putting groceries in are cart when the cashier accused us of stealing FOR NO REASON. He proceeded to stick his phone in are face and record us until we left the store. I wasn't wearing a hoodie or a hat or anything like that. Maybe Walgreens Pharmacy should rethink asking people picking up their prescriptions to touch the register keypad in order to put in their phone numbers. Got a prescription from urgent care directly across the street. Come to pick it up and am told they haven't received it. Okay, fine, can you please call them and get it? They tell me they have to close for lunch and I should come back at 2pm (20 min from now). I say fine, to have a cup of tea nearby and come back at 2:05. At 2:20 they finally saunter back in and open their window. They then tell me that I'll need to wait another 15 min as they fill my prescription (it's for eye drops, by the way). Extremely annoyed at this point. On top of that, there's only one restroom here that you need a key to access. So I can't even wait comfortably in the store. TL;DR: Walgreens West Portal - Fix your staffing issue, create a rolling break/lunch schedule, and let people use the damn bathroom. read more

Walgreen's has just about everything you need in a drug store plus a very helpful pharmacy staff willing to go above and beyond.

This Walgreens location is clean and sparkly, and not too many of their items are in cages - unlike the location in Westlake Center where even the toothbrushes are on lockdown. Looks like people complain b/c it's not as big as a suburban Walgreens but compared to some of the other SF locations it's pretty damn nice and the selection is good....even La Roche Posay sunscreen is on offer. read more

For the pharmacy only. Avoid this pharmacy! I was near the area and so had my Dr. called in for a prescription and an hour later, in dire need of my antibiotics and thinking there had been ample time for it to be filled, I went to pick it up - there was no such prescription for me! Turned out they were so understaffed that no one even checked the phone messages. I stayed for over half an hour making sure the pharmacist listened to my Dr's message and waited another 15 mins for the meds. Even the nice Walgreen's employee who was cashing me out advised me not to fill up prescription at this pharmacy! Never will I be back for my meds again. read more

A few months ago, I came in to simply buy a pack of gum. As i went to pay for it, my EBT card i was on at the time didn't work. The woman aggressively told me "No ebt cards right now." So I inquired "Why?" The reaction i got was unsettling. "WHY?", she snapped, "Because my machine isn't working, THAT'S why!" I had cash on me, but after being treated that way, i decided to leave. I called the store manager and told him what happened. He seemed almost confused that i was telling him this information and i got the vibe i was wasting his time. Recently, I came back to buy a pair of gloves. She still works there. If you work in customer service, you know that being rude or shouting at a customer gets you fired. This was not the case here. If this Wall-greens location can't discipline they're own employees, they will lose more business. read more

I keep thinking of this location as the old Rite Aid. But unlike Rite Aid there is no longer an ice cream counter in the store. It is not just the photo developing center. I feel like Walgreens offers more products than Rite Aid, but I think Rite Aid was cheaper. Me and my family members have to use medical sharps on a regular basis for our health conditions. As part of San Francisco's safe disposal program, all SF Walgreens locations accepts sharps disposal boxes for proper disposal and issues our new boxes. In other words, prevents people from dumping it in the regular garbage or in the streets. The West Portal Walgreens pharmacy counter people are total idiots. I brought four full sharps containers and only accepted two of the four because they claimed they are "contractually obligated" to only accept the canisters issued from Walgreens. What made this insulting is what the heck was I supposed to do with the other canisters? Break them open, endanger my health just to transfer them to the ones they will accept? And to add insult to injury, I visited another Walgreens pharmacy and they took the ones the West Portal location rejected. I even disclosed to the other pharmacist what I was doing and they had no problem taking it. read more

This review is to say "BOO" to the fact that this was a Rite Aid and Walgreens systematically ran them out of SF by opening a nearby each one and, eventually, taking over them. In this location's case, WG opened a store at corner of West Portal and Ulloa, which they closed after taking over the Rite Aid here. I'm not saying I'm a fan of Rite Aid more than Walgreens. By a Walgreen's Pharmacy life long customer who rarely goes negative. If looking for a good or even decent WALGREEN's PHARMACY - Hurry, EXIT this one now & remove it as an option on your Rx website. Eek! Me thinks they dispensed the wrong medicine two weeks ago (eligible refill misapplied?)- shoulder shrug! Big problem because I'm out of needed med, have too much of wrong stuff (which # of refills remaining confirms) - double shoulder shrug!! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING they can do - triple shoulder shrug!!! Come back in a week. My fault.... if not mine it must be my Insurance Company (Blue Shield), if not mine or the Insurance Company, must be my Doctor's fault. Never mind they wait until Friday night to let me know. This particular Pharmacy is a customer service black hole and the Pharm tech has a chip on his shoulder. This Walgreen's Pharmacy is the slowest pharmacy I have ever been to. Their "drop off" area is never open forcing you to go the pick up line. There is consistently more than 5 people in line. They have two windows, yet have only one employee working at all times - at least it seems like it. They spend 10 minutes with each person just to pick up a prescription. Nice, clean, bright Walgreens. Pretty big for a city location as well. Parking usually isn't too bad during the day, but bring quarters as it's metered. I came here because of the terrible service I received at the Outer Sunset (Irving) pharmacy. The staff here is very nice and very responsive. There was some confusion with a gift card I was owed for transferring a prescription over and it took FOR-EV-ER to work out but the manager eventually did. Check out is always fast and the service there is always friendly. This and the Parnassus location are my go-to Walgreens now that I've left Irving. If you come here it won't let you down. read more

I've been coming to this Walgreens for over 5 years; in fact if you include before they moved from the corner near the Muni station over 15 years. Staff: The staff have always been courteous, they've helped me find things, given me a frank opinion about the product (pros cons) and have done small courtesies including holding my paid for goods while I went to get my car. Time to time you get someone cranky but in all these years, have to say it happened once with this guy about developing film. They recognize me and always take time to ask how things are when I show up, sometimes months would go by between visits. Pharmacy: The pharmacy gets over whelmed.. I don't know why but we all seem to need drugs at the same time; over the years they've always been timely. They have suggested different generics over more expensive brands, given suggestions and have always gone over how to take the drugs when I forget given the doctors run through it so fast. Product selection: It's uneven, time to time they run out and the pricing is not often the cheapest compared to Target on certain items. Their Senior Day discounts great, I once made them ring up 20+ items with the Senior discount then again with just their special sale discount to figure out which way was cheapest. I know, bad on me. They were THAT patient. My Mom and I wanted to know. Location: Near public parking, relatively decent street parking just avoid dinner hours. Decor: Bright, big space so, if you plan to shop, you should get a trolley and not a basket. Check out time: Pretty decent, although they wait until there's at least 5 people in line before opening up a second register. Can't complain for a neighborhood chain drug store. Done with this place, second month in a row I was told that my prescription was not ready because of it not being approved by insurance. Rose the pharmacist got snarky about it and was quite rude. I was told last month ROSE, that this is your standard procedure when you're out of stock. I won't believe a word you say from this point forward when it was revealed last month that this is what the pharmacists due when they are low or out of stock of a certain prescription. If you're tired of the lies, move your prescriptions to CVS, that's what I am doing this week. From January 2018: Walgreens has a nasty habit of saying your insurance is invalid when they're actually out of medication. I can in yesterday to buy some Desatin for my mom. It was my only item. Had to wait about 10 min to be rung up. After the clerk press the "I SEE THREE" button, someone finally showed up. I made my purchase & the clerk didn't talk, smile, or even hand me my purchase. He just placed my receipt on top of my item & expected me to pick it up. What has happened to Polite Customer Service?
