We have stopped at Walker Burger on numerous trips between Topaz Lake and the Bridgeport area and have always enjoyed the meal and ambiance of the garden area. Definitely earns our 5 stars. Our go-to is typically one of the delicious shakes, along with the cheeseburger and krinkle fries. And, we've never been disappointed. During our most recent visit, Walker Burger was very busy as the highway construction on 395 recently finished. The friendly window staff mentioned that our order might take 20 minutes, so we simply enjoyed a table in the garden with our dogs. Out of four hamburgers three were not good. The bacon on one tasted like the precooked kind. Three burgers were overcooked. The fried pickles and onion rings were very good, however, the fries were nothing special. One of our party asked to use the restroom and was told "NO". The excuse was that it was close to closing and they had already been cleaned. Now, this was very hard on the person requesting the use of the facility as that person has medical issues (said person is very clean and is careful to leave restrooms clean) I find it inexcusable to deny someone access to a restroom just because it has already been cleaned for the night. All in all we would prefer to go down the highway to the barbecue for a real hamburger. read more

This is the perfect spot between Mammoth Lakes and Reno Nevada. I will definitely stop here every time. I travel the 395 because these burgers just hit differently. I think I could've ate three burgers at one time because they were just so good! Also, make sure you get a flavored shake because they offer so many. Timing finally worked out to try Walker Burger on 395. Several reviewers have noted that it is on the expensive side, but I think it's reasonably priced considering what a burger chain meal costs these days. The little burger was just right for my small appetite, but I've heard a local worker mention that the portions are not a good value, and he's right. Food: 1.5/ 2 stars. If you want pickles and tomatoes go ahead and ask for it. Shredded lettuce is included. Oasis: There are trees, lawn, and at least a dozen tables with benches. Some of them are scattered about, and some a bit hidden away. The root beer float is worth all of the pennies though. Service: For a walk up kitchen, my expectations are not high. Burgers are solid, onion rings are awesome, the hot fudge milkshakes are amazing. They also have fried zucchini and pickles. Lots of milkshake flavors. They have chicken and fish for people who don't want burgers. People saying the food is expensive for the value fail to realize that this place is still in California so you get California prices and they are not a corporate spot. This area also narrowly escaped fires a couple years ago. We've never had an issue with an order and we go 20x a year. Even with efficient service, Lines can get long around lunchtime so plan ahead. They have some shaded sitting areas which is nice since it's just a walk up order type of stand. Parking can also get busy. read more

We didn't expect to find anything outside of a lone sketchy McDonalds, so you can imagine how ecstatic we were to see Walker Burger up the road. You can tell from the aesthetic that this place does everything right. They have a beautiful backyard area with plenty of grass, shade, and seating. They have a cute little shack with specialty merchandise that is definitely worth the value. The four of us downed some spectacular burgers, fries, and taquitos! Those taquitos have the right amount of cheese, crunch, and shredded marinated chicken. The burgers were juicy and packed beautifully. The fries were crinkle cut, fat, and had the perfect amount of salt. Those puppies vanished instantly. And those shakes, wow! You can mix and match their abundance of flavors in an infinite amount of ways. For instance: I combined cherry with vanilla, my buddy mixed root beer and vanilla, and his fiancé made a chocolate raspberry combination! But of course, the best shake from us four was that of my girlfriend's- and hers was JUST banana! Sometimes less is more. Lastly, I'll say the service here is homey, personable, courteous, and super efficient. Great stop along the way through Coleville, CA and Antelope Valley while driving on US 395. This is a seasonal restaurant that makes great food, very fresh and has amazing malts, shakes and cones. I strategically make sure I'll be hungry when passing by. It's a nice place to stop and stretch your legs. All dining areas are outdoors on their back patio. The patio has many shade trees and pergolas and also sunny spots depending on what floats your boat. Custom whimsical bird houses (for sale) adorn the trees and fountain area. Make sure and let them know what size burger you want or they'll default to the quarter pounder. I regularly order the Walker Burger, but sub mayonnaise versus 1000 Island, which I do not like. We've gone to Walker Burger for years. But this year was quite a disappoinment. As usual, we sat in the lovely garden but were overwhelmed by flies the whole time. No "wind" gizmos were available to prevent the flies from landing on our food. I ordered the salad with grilled chicken. It was way overloaded on a small plate and I couldn't even toss the dressing on it. Very few items in the salad and uninteresting. What I loved: Walker Burger's atmosphere is a little gem along 395. I really enjoyed their spacious patio and garden seating. Outdoor seating is important to us since we usually travel with our dog these days. The garden was well-maintained and the outdoors was a welcomed break from sitting in the car. What I liked: The Ortega Chile burger was pretty good. The Chile definitely made it but overall I was satisfied. My boyfriend enjoyed the Sourdough Pepper Jack burger and the onion rings. What I didn't like: The milkshakes. We ordered Oreo milkshakes and what we got was what tasted like a vanilla milkshake made after someone else got all the Oreos. It was pretty milky and overall tasted like vanilla soft serve ice cream. Not really what I was hoping for. The burgers were a little well done but that's something I can look past. This is by far our favorite place to stop on our way to Tahoe. Nothing fancy here, this is a cute and welcoming little mom and pop burger place with outdoor seating. The service is always friendly and our order is usually ready within a reasonable amount of time. Their food really hits the spot, especially while on the road all day. I usually just stick with a cheeseburger, fries and my favorite - a dipped vanilla cone. The crunch of that thin layer of chocolate is the most satisfying thing ever.
