Wonderful brunch, served outside next to the beautiful creek. I recommend this as a Sunday drive destination.

I've dined here several times in the past with trips down to Bodie, Yosemite, Mammoth, and have found the restaurant quaint, charmingly eclectic, and with solid food fare with seemingly fair pricing, given there are few other restaurant options nearby. It was previously a worthy stop-off when the trip north or south was long and you needed a decent quality comfort-food bite on the fly. Sadly, this restaurant is now crossed off my list of options. Pricing here has gotten out of control (a hamburger is 30-35 dollars....a *hamburger* ?!?), with service nothing particularly special. So you will be paying roughly double, or more, for the price of a menu roughly equivalent to the quality of an Applebee's. The restaurant will argue these are the new inflationary market prices, supply demand dynamics, summer travel pricing to offset slower winter travel season, etc etc. But reaming the customer ain't a great recipe for having folks like me ever returning. It simply isn't worth it to dine here anymore, so I will keep driving past Virginia Creek Settlement and wave. read more

Stayed here during a trip to go to Sacramento and it was a great experience. We happened to come on a new moon and it was pretty much my first time seeing the Milky Way. I really enjoyed the trip here from Los Angeles and the staff was very friendly too. The food was super tasty and I don't remember the name of it but it was a chicken pasta dish that was unique. The hotel rooms and the restaurants feel really homey and they give us fish food to feed the aquaculture set up they have. read more

We ate dinner at the restaurant the night we checked in and had breakfast the morning we checked out. The service was great both times we ate here. They have lovely decor in the restaurant and old style photos that were taken on site over the years. It has such charm to this place. If you have reservations, check in takes place inside the restaurant. They had alot of pasta options for dinner and most everyone got pasta in our group. We had mosticholi, chicken marsala, eggplant parm, lasagna, we also had a pizza, pulled pork sandwich and a salmon Ceasars salad. They bbq pulled pork was made with their house made whiskey bbq sauce that was delicious. Their marinara is also made in house. All of the food was so good. For breakfast we had pancakes, breakfast burritos, scrambled eggs and sausage, fruit and an omelet; all come with their country potatoes which were cooked to perfection, you can tell they put love in their food. After a long day of fishing, the family needed to eat something close by before heading back to Mammoth. So I turned to Yelp and was hopeful for this place. The service was great, the restrooms were clean, and the ambiance was fun. A lot of signs to read LOL. But when it came to the food, I was really hoping to like it. One thing that was really good and that they have down is their veggies. Their salad was good, although it did have a runny blue cheese dressing on it, but it was still delicious. Their roasted veggies on the the steak plate were also very good and done right. But when it came to the steak itself, we ordered it medium rare and it was delivered rare. It was also under seasoned and we had to ask for salt and pepper. When we cut into it and showed our server the raw parts, he asked us to put the raw pieces on a small plate so that he can take it back to the kitchen and they can cook it somewhere. When we received it back, all the pieces were basically well done (see pic). He did tell us he took off 25% off of the steak plate so that was nice of him. Look at the picture that I posted of the fettuccine alfredo. It literally was just made out of cream only, and was missing cheese. At least the chicken in it was not dry and that was good. I had to ask for parmesan cheese and put a lot in it just so it could taste like fettuccine alfredo. We gave this place a chance, but we know we won't be coming back. read more

This is one of those places that you drive by at 65 and think, I should stop and try that place some time. Well we finally did. Please keep in mind the three stars could be in part do to 11 of us showing up all at once for breakfast. Amber our server did a great job accmidating us and the food came out mostly all at once. Good in the past but a total miss this time. Our server, Monica seemed to not want to serve us. We asked what the special was since they usually have one, none this time. When she finally came back to take our order, we asked for separate checks and she said no problem. We asked for what drinks they had and she said she would bring a menu. She took the rest of the orders. Dropped by the drink menu but never came back to actually take that order. All of the meals were under cooked. Two of the stakes were almost raw when ordered medium rare. The well done stake came out very rare. The pizza had no sauce, just hamburger and cheese. She never asked how the meal was and just dropped by the single check. When asked about the separate checks, she said the desk could handle it. Unfortunately he could not and when he asked her, she said just do it. When he still could not, she pushed him out of the way and begrudgingly rang us up. No apologies for the bad service. We go to Bodie every year and usually have at least one meal here, but I doubt we will ever return. I was telling some folks who were asking about places to eat and the owner of the place we stayed, said he keeps hearing bad experiences at this restaurant and does not recommend it any longer. read more

October 22, 2025. My wife and I drove here from Mammoth because we saw the reviews and decided to combine a trip for lunch over here and closer to the mono Lake which we wanted to visit. Must say we were very disappointed in this restaurant. Yes, it's nice and homey and rustic, but the food was sub par. I ordered the ravioli. The tomato sauce had so many onions in it. You couldn't even see the ravioli. I can't stand onion so I couldn't even eat it. I pretty much left it on my plate uneaten. My wife had the lasagna. Exact same sauce. Full of onions. No can do. If you don't like onions like me, be careful what you order at this place it might be full of onions. read more

I finished a backpacking trip out of Tuolumne Meadows, drove Hwy 395 and was looking for a place to stay the night and shower near Bridgeport. I happened on this place and was delighted! It was quaint and perfect. They specialize in pizza so I asked if they happen to have gluten free and was told that since the wife had Celiac they had loads of GF options including GF pancakes in the morning. Not only was my pizza excellent, so was my GF avocado toast in the morning. They also have a little fishing business (too bad I hadn't brought a pole). Thank goodness for this place. It was 7:30 pm on a Monday and every restaurant on our trip was closed even though yelp said they were open. This restaurant was our last chance at nourishment after a long day of travel thankfully it was open. We loved the homey atmosphere. This little gem was an accidental stop that we did not plan on our way to the Zephyr Cover campground. The ambiance was eery and the only person working seemed indifferent to our arrival, but we sat down and ordered anyways. At first we were caught off guard by the high prices ($24 burger meals seemed absurdly high), but little did we know that not only were the burgers made with super high quality beef, they were accompanied by a salad, garlic bread, grilled veggies, fries, and with a scoop of ice cream. The portion was great, but the shining star was the burger. I've had very few burgers with such great beef flavor and texture. You could tell they didn't skimp on the meat they chose. For a restaurant that prides itself on making their dishes inhouse the food tasted more like it came from Costco the last two times we have eaten there. If we had wanted to eat Costco food we would have eaten at home. My husband and I have eaten here five times and have recommended the Settlement to friends, however, the last couple of times we have been very disappointed in the food and its quality. THe tomatoes on the salad were wrinkly and old, and the beet was also old, the tomato sauce was watery, and the tater tots were undercooked and lacked flavor. The iced tea was pricey ($4,25 per small glass) and we had a difficult time getting refills. read more

Wow! What an oasis! This is my new favorite place in the Bridgeport area! I was traveling over the Sierra last weekend, and ended up camping across the street from the Virginia Creek Settlement Restaurant. What great fortune! We had checked in to camp, and asked the host for a restaurant recommendation in Bridgeport, and they said "hey, there's a place that has steaks, prime rib, and Italian food just up the street about 200yds". That ended up being a great tip! Not only did we not have to ride back into Bridgeport, against the the threat of rain, but the VCSR was an awesome surprise! We walked down, and were met with a friendly reception. It seemed like everyone in the place was super friendly. It almost felt like a family reunion! Ha! It was a Saturday night, and the special was a Prime Rib - so we decided to go that route. It was well priced, and included choice of starts, a number of optional sided, and a scoop of ice cream for desert! Perfect. We ordered a half carafe of the house cab, and started in on our salads. They were nice and dry, crisp, and had a wide range of vegetables, including beets and black olives, and pepperoncini! We loved their tangy house-made blue cheese dressing too! The real deal was the Prime Rib though. Wow! The vegetables were perfectly al dente, had just the right amount of butter, and were still steaming hot. Baked potato was perfect, and served with butter, sour cream. The Prime Rib itself was AMAZING though! Nice bark, perfect medium, tender, juicy, and the au-jus was delicious. We were in heaven! We finished with the bourbon ice cream -which was also a treat! It was so good, in fact, that we decided to forgo making coffee in camp the next morning and just headed back down to the VCSR. We met the owners, who were super funny and friendly (again, made us feel more like we were in a family home, more than a restaurant). We had an amazing breakfast too! I had two eggs with sausage patties, house potatoes, and biscuit and gravy - all at a bargain price. The eggs were perfectly prepared and fresh. The sausage patties, I expect, were flame grilled which gave them an amazing flavor, and they were very tender and juicy. The house potatoes were incredible, diced with green peppers and onions - and were perfectly crisp and steamy! The owner brought out some of their house-made salsa which was also a real treat - the spicy one had a real kick - and went really well with the potatoes! They kept our coffee cups topped off the whole time. So, in short, we had amazing friendly service, delicious food that was all served promptly and piping hot! AMAZING! If you are in the area - I can't recommend this place enough. If you are lucky , you may just find me there with a big smile. I've passed by this place several times over the years and never knew there was a restaurant here, but glad we found it and gave it a try. The food was better than average in my opinion. It's fairly pricy for what it is, but I guess that's expected for one of few restaurants out in the middle of nowhere that is open in the winter. Wow... I have traveled most of my adult life and I don't think I have EVER been more in love with a destination like Virginia Creek Settlement. It's the whole package. First off the food... OMG it is insanely good, everything is literally to die for, you cannot go wrong! The decor is so cozy, welcoming, warm and all the signs are hilarious! They got awesome swag and everything is so reasonable. Top tier quality! Ok now moving on to the lodging. You NEED to experience this, I'm not suggesting I'm telling you! Do not pass this opportunity! We stayed in the tent cabin which puts typical glamping to shame. Each cabin has its own theme, gas fire place outside, two heaters, cozy as ever beds, lights, electricity, a water spicket, a generous stack of towels and table. They have a camp kitchen which is absolutely darling! Super close by with a fridge, microwave, toaster, sink with soap and sponges... it's decorated so perfectly and have dishes to use on request! It's even got a heater inside! Pics below :) they have a bath house with two restrooms in the front and showers in the back. Both have heaters and along with everything else is completely spotless! The showers have shampoo, conditioner and body wash super nice quality and the water gets super hot and stays hot! They have other lodging options as well and the pricing is SO generous! They have covered wagons right on the creek which looked SO cozy and quaint. They have cabins with two rooms, one with bunk beds, the other with a big bed, kitchenette and shower. These also have a patio and fire with picnic tables and camp lounge chairs. They also have a motel to stay in so you have tons of options! They have multiple bbqs with all the tools, picnics tables, fresh grass, a fire pit, a hammock, swinging chair and games to play (cornhole, chess, Tetris) When you check in they give you a welcome gift bag with s'mores, fish food for the hatchery, a map, and coffee pods/utensils. Or you can opt for a complimentary cup of coffee from the resteraunt and sit on the patio! The WiFi works great, its kid friendly and dog friendly! I cannot say enough great things about this place. I am currently daydreaming about packing up my life and moving here. It's close to everything with SO much to do! You got hot springs, Mono lake, Bodie ghost town, less than an hour to Mammoth, less than 30 minutes to Lee Vining which takes you to Yosemite Natl Park via Tioga Pass, June lake... endless places to hike and explore with views that will literally take your breath away! You will be mind blown at how affordable such an unforgettable and unique getaway can actually be! THIS IS THE SPOT! What are you waiting for??? Ran into this awesome lodge by sheer luck during a power outage while I was unable to charge my electric car. Jimmy welcomed my family into the restaurant to wait it out & stay warm. He gave my daughter fish food to kill some time with his trouts, and even hooked up his car charger to his generator & made an adapter (yes, MADE) for us to be able to charge up. We ended up having lunch & dinner here (which were also 5/5) & stayed the night. Jim even gave us his personal number to keep us updated on the power situation. Perhaps it was an off night but the food was awful and insanely overpriced. I was hoping to have a nice birthday dinner for my daughter on a road trip. The $32 lasagna was basically all ricotta (Diet) and appeared regurgitated. The staff/owner advised against the Ravioli. Thankfully, I inquired first. The $50 steak was something you would see (and taste) at Denny's, and the vegetables were clearly frozen. Read the room! I wanted to love this restaurant!! It is adorable situated on the 395 just outside of Bridgeport. We stopped as part of a road trip. All the tables were having pizza that looked delicious-hint hint order the pizza- we didn't Instead we ordered Mohave desert dry as a bone $18.95 crab cakes-spaghetti and meatballs with a sauce full of onions and tomatoes-meh And the special of the night ginger scallops over linguine. I never tasted ginger and it had par boiled carrots too. ‍ The salads were delicious-spring mix, zucchini slices, beets, grape tomatoes, and peppercinis. Hubby had bleu cheese I had creamy Italian. It tasted homemade and yummy. Also the lemon sorbet at the end of our meal was so creamy and tart. Next time we will keep driving and eat in Bishop. read more

Came here on a Friday on our drive down to Bodie, CA and we were starving and eager for breakfast. I ordered the eggs (poached), sausage and hash browns, while my friend ordered an omelet. My meal was perfect, and exactly what I wanted! My friend liked her omelet but didn't love that they melted cheese on top of it. We dined at the Virginia Creek Settlement Restaurant for breakfast following our overnight stay at the motel's Tent-Cabins. It was a convenient choice for beginning our camping journey in the Eastern Sierras and making sure we were fed before our travels. While I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to dine here, we enjoyed a very nice meal on their cozy patio. Vegetarians, delight! They offer Veggie Sausage as a breakfast option! I must note that they didn't really have a drink menu to speak of. I asked if they offer Mimosas and our server responded that they only had beer & wine... I didn't want to be condescending to our server and tell her that champagne is sparkling... wine... so I just opted for an orange juice. But... a mimosa would have been a much nicer way to start my small vacation. I'm sure we will stay at this property again in the future, and when we do, we will likely visit the restaurant as well. Hopefully next time they will have a drink menu or at least train the staff to ask for help if they don't understand a customers' question. read more

Oh wow! This place saved us! We were staying in Bridgeport and the town is basically closed down! We were lucky to find Virginia Settlement on Yelp and hauled over there (20 minute drive from hotel) to get in 20 minutes before they closed the kitchen. They had no problem with this. They seated us and immediately took our beer order. We ordered our food and it came out within 10 minutes, even though the place was hopping! It was full! People cam in after us, desperate for food, right as the kitchen was to close - they were seated with an understanding smile. WOW WHAT SERVICE! The food was pretty good standard fare - but we ate it all, every bite, and ordered more beer. We were thankful for the service and the fact that they were open. We returned the next morning as well for breakfast, as Bridgeport was completely shut down. Again, we were happy for a warm breakfast - typical fare of eggs and toast cooked with extra butter lol. We'd like to return sometime during the summer and check out the outside dining with the cute lighting and a creek running behind it. We were happy this time to be inside where it was nice a warm vs. outside in the freezing cold! We look forward to coming through here again sometime and stopping by Virginia Settlement! read more
