Perfect fresh seafood meal every time! Walker's never disappoints! The bread less crabcakes are a perfect start. The bartender can concoct a variety of mock tales to your liking. If you don't drink alcohol, but of course, there's a full bar and wine selection. The redfish Anna is delicate, fresh and well balanced with the accompaniments. The fresh fish of the day was triple tail, pan, fried with a lemon butter sauce. It was great! For dessert we split the crème brûlée and the peanut butter and banana fried pie. Both were excellent. The service was prompt and attentive. The only slight negative is that it tends to be a little loud in there, but heck, I think this is my favorite restaurant in the Tri-County area. read more

Hands down, this is the BEST steak I have ever eaten in Mississippi. Aged 45 days to absolute perfection! Even the house salad was amazing, and it comes with blue cheese which I hate. But it bonded so well with the flavors of the salad that I actually enjoyed it! The potatoes were good as well, and the asparagus. Brownie was good, but nothing extra special about it. A Jackson institution! This is our favorite restauran by far!! Almost everything on the menu is absolutely delicious and the service is top notch. We love the oyster app, the lobster app, the calamari and the crab cakes. Hubby loves the filet entree and I love the artichoke parm crusted flounder and the scallops. The risotto is amazing also. If they have the Nantucket Bay scallops on special don't pass it up! read more

Walkers is one of my favorite restaurants in Jackson. The food is incredible and the service is always top notch. My wife got the Redfish Anna and I had Everything Crusted Tuna. We are not even big seafood people, but these dishes are so well prepared and delicious. The redfish practically melts in your mouth and the tuna was so fresh. Both dishes were full of flavor. As an appetizer we had the world famous tamales. They may be the best tamales I have ever had; they definitely live up to their name with a rich taste and soft texture. For dessert we had the fried pie which was a blueberry flavor. The sauces poured over it paired with the ice cream tasted heavenly. I love the layer of sanding sugar coating the pie. I am never disappointed when I leave Walker's. It is always such a treat to go there, and I am proud to have such culinary talent representing the metro area. read more

I had dinner here with coworkers and the experience was terrific. A stunner right at the beginning is the literal book of a drink menu. The variety of wines was commendable, and the waitress was even willing to customize a cocktail for me. We tried an array of appetizers and from foie gras to fried portobello. As a seafood lover, my favorite are these delightfully flavorful crab cakes. I had no regrets getting the steak that the waitress adamantly recommended. OMG this place was fantastic! I can't stop raving about how amazing it was. From the unique interior to the delicious fresh fish and friendly service, this place easily demands a 5/5 rating. One of my favorite parts of the whole experience is that the place reminds me of an unassuming prohibition bar in NYC. From the outside it looks like a casual drive in restaurant from the 1950s. Once you walk in, you feel as if you should be ordering a vanilla milkshake at the bar or at one of the colorful booths that align the wall. We arrived on a Saturday evening and the place was packed. Thankfully I was warned that although it looks like a 1950s diner, it's really an upscale restaurant and people were dressed really well. We started off with two glasses of wine. They had a pretty legit 'wines by the glass menu', and most of the wines weren't terribly expensive. Then we ordered their portabella mushroom fries app, which was mushrooms lightly battered and fried in a delicious aioli sauce. It was fantastic, I loved the sauce. For dinner I ordered the miso marinated seabass which was outstanding. This is the second restaurant I have ever been to in my entire life that had forbidden black rice and it complemented the dish so well. The seabass was really fresh and just melted in my mouth and the red curry coconut broth gave the dish a nice flavor. My date ordered the everything crusted #1 tuna, which I took a bite of and wow, this was some of the best tuna I have ever eaten! The fact that it said #1 sushi grade tuna, you knew this was going to be some high end tuna. The tuna came atop delicious cheese grits with tomatoes and chipotle glaze. Excellent flavor combination. Every time I go to Walkers I have an excellent food experience. The redfish Anna is superb and last night I tried the crab/flounder. The spinach was delicious and the flounder was cooked well. The restaurant was clean, packed with guests, and had a continuous flow of traffic. Surprisingly, this restaurant has a second building adjacent to the restaurant for overflow dining. I expected to walk into a diner-like atmosphere, considering that the restaurant is named Walker's Drive-In. The restaurant has a fine dining and diner vibe. I ordered a glass of wine, crab cake, bread pudding, and spinach. Everything was delicious. I should have ordered two crab cakes. The staff seemed to enjoy each other as well as their jobs. It was also exciting to see autographed celebrity pics posted around the restaurant. Chef Derek and his wife are dominating their legacy...I'm not local, but I'm glad that I was in the area. I gave this place a 2 star rating. I was very disappointed with the reservation issue. I made a reservation at 715 for a table. When I approach the receptionist, she had no clue about the reservation. She mentioned , there is no table available, if I wish I could seat in the bar! It made me more upset when I started getting text Message about "Fried Pie". The restaurant did not keep my reserved table, but they have the time to text me about some " Pie!!!". What a joke! The place is noisy like an Union Station. The server was shouting at the desk .. one monk fish ... one Fried Pie. I got a bad headache. I was given a table at last. Even the initial encounter was disappointing, but my waitress Liz was very friendly and helpful. I started with BBQ fried Oysters. It was crunchy and tasty. Loved the crispy fried Lobster skewers with salad. I am impressed with the taste and flavors. I can eat them again and again. Asian three way salad was very refreshing. The tuna was spicy and delicious. Seaweed salad was perfect for me. Miso marinated sea bass was a perfect piece of fish. The was soft, buttery and tasty. I was impressed with the pace of delivery. Suggestion to the restaurant, please be serious about honoring reservation table. I love to give this place a 4 stars, but with your reservation issue, you deserve 2 stars. Loved the egg and asian twist. Truffle fries - great flavor, but many of the fries were just tiny pieces. Such a solid spot and I'm consistently wowed every time I have the opportunity to dine at walkers. What I really love about this place is that no matter how busy they are my are the food is always exceptional. No BS, after frequenting this place I honestly have only had one meal that I didn't care for. It was a seafood special that I personally didn't like but it wasn't due to a slip in their overall culinary excellence. Their staple menu items are top notch and I have 0 complaints or recommendations concerning how they can improve. A couple of pro tips. 1) It's super small (4 stools) but if you get a chance try to sit at the bar. It's a front row view of all the action and you have the opportunity to cut up with the staff a bit. Besides the food their staff is also amazing and cease to disappoint. 2) Their standard steaks are just as good as their specials. The price points between the standard steak offerings and specials are much different. (About double depending on the cut). I'll get the "bone in" special if I'm in the mood to splurge but if I was eating their weekly I'd stick with the standard filet. Don't get me wrong both flavors are exceptional I just don't see a significant difference. Again this is from the perspective of my palette and others may disagree. 3) If you want an intimate experience try to be seated on the original side. It can be loud at times but it's just a really cool spot especially if you are looking to impress a date. In my experience the newer side has been much quieter but it doesn't have the same old school ambiance that the original side has. Regardless of where you are seated the food and service will still be exceptional. 4) Parking can be a challenge so plan accordingly so you are not late for your reservation I've been to hundreds of restaurants throughout my travels and I can confidently say that Walker's is in my all time Top 5 restaurants. If you are in the Jackson, MS area or just passing through this is a must stop. This place is epic and highly recommended. When I heard that we would be eating at Walker's Drive-In in Jackson, MS, my first thought was "I've already had a burger this week". Don't let the name fool you. Walker's Drive-In is an upscale establishment and my meal was first class. A former drive-in (thus, the name), Walker's is located in Fondren, the arts district neighborhood of Jackson, MS. Walker's Drive-In isn't cheap, but the quality of the meal and the excellent service ensures that you receive your money's worth. With the white table linens, dim lighting, and excellent wait staff, I hardly recognized the humble beginnings of a drive-in. Add to that, fresh salads, flaky seafood, tender steaks, and smooth, rich sauces. My dining experience at Walker's was second to none. You won't want to resist the fried pie so save room for dessert! If you remember drive-ins, you'll understand that the dining area is limited so make reservations in advance. There is some patio seating out front as well. And if you go, let them know that you heard about them from Travel and Table! As a side note, I would also recommend checking out the rest of what Fondren has to offer such as unique owner-operated boutiques and weekly neighborhood activities. read more

I happened upon this place one Tuesday while looking for dinner in Jackson. I came in around 6pm. There were tables open with a few of them already taken, but apparently the place was booked with reservations so they could only seat me at the bar! I looked at the (pricey) menu and decided to have a go, as I was hungry so I sat at the bar. The waitstaff was very friendly and informative. I ordered the redfish, which is apparently one of their signature dishes. But it took me awhile to settle on my order, as aside from the actual menu, the waitress read to me a loooong list of daily specials. In any event, the meal was one of the best I've had in the South, which really surprised me as Jackson is not on the coast, so I wouldn't expect the seafood here to be of such quality. I really enjoy this place. It's costly so it's not a place I can frequent, but for special occasions, Walker's is certainly the place to go. read more

Ordered to go. Redfish Anna was delicious: fish was nice and flaky, no fishy smell, seared well on both sides. The lump crab in the white sauce complemented the fish well. The green beans could have used a bit more time cooking, but was tasty regardless. The mash potatoes was pillowy buttered goodness. The fried peach pie was just ok. The food was excellent and most of the service experience was too. The host squeezed us in when we accidentally made a reservation for the wrong night, and the busing staff was super attentive. The table service was an issue. The server at my table told us the restaurant had a full bar and could make any drink we wanted. But when I ordered a cocktail, he sneered and said he would make it for me "because things were slow" (things were not slow). I didn't understand what he meant by this and laughed it off to be polite.
