new owners, who dis? The same Walkers you know and love! The food and service were amazing! We chose the halibut special and so glad we did! Amazing flavors! Still one of the best date spots in Jackson.

First time and it won't be the last time! What can I say when the food, service and ambiance were almost 5 stars! NOTE: Reservation is REQUIRED! Located in the Fondren, the restaurant is located in an old building and with other ethnic restaurants to compete against, it specializes in American food with a flair of using other ethnic seasonings and techniques to create their wonderful dishes. Kudos to the chefs! Ambiance: 4.95 Stars - The quaint restaurant has limited seating at the bar (6 chairs), 6-8 booths hugging the walls, and 4-6 table in the middle. The booths and tables can seat (2-4). An outside pavilion with 4-6 tables (2-8 chairs per table). Due to its coziness, it can get LOUD. At times it hard to hear your server or staff members and having a conversation can be very entertaining by saying, " What was that", "Huh", "Say again". Don't go there if you want a quiet dinner. We had a fun time talking with each other. Service: 5 Stars - Our sever, assistant server, chefs, hostesses, and other servers ran the restaurant with efficiency, professional, friendly, and knowledgeable of the various dishes. All servers were even bartenders. We had a Mojito and our server ask me on how I like my Mojito. He himself made the concoction after I explained to him the ingredients and voila', our Mojito arrived and tasted the way I like them. Almost if I was the bartender! in addition to cocktails, ask for the Wine Menu or have the server recommend the wine. Our server is very knowledgeable with the different menu items and at times we asked to repeat himself because of how detail he went into the explaining the ingredients. Food: 4.99 Stars. The only .01 deduction was on the sauce on the Iberian Pork which I will explain shortly. Our server explained several different specials (an Iberian Pork appetizer, charcuterie appetizer, two different protein entrées (one fish and one beef). We chose the following items: Appetizer: 4.99 Stars - Iberian Pork glazed with a light red wine and vinaigrette reduction sauce topped with Chimichurri. The appetizer was wonderful but I thought the sauce had a little bit more vinegar based than I liked and took away from the Iberian Pork itself. Originated from Portugal, it it is a sweet and marbled meat, high fat content which makes it tender. So a fork is only needed to cut through the meat. It was a great way start to our wonderful and surprising meal. Salad: 4.95 Stars - ASIAN THREE WAY Spicy seaweed, squid salad, Thai chili crusted tuna, crispy wontons. We were feeling adventurous, so we opted to go with an Asian inspired salad. Plus we laughed due to the name. The salad was really good but the seaweed was on the sweet side. However, the Thai chili was able to cut down the sweetness. The fried wontons gave a crunchy texture and the tuna seared and soft in the center. Entrées: 5 Stars! CRAB, ARTICHOKE & PARMESAN CRUSTED "GIGGED" FLOUNDER Sautéed shallot spinach, charred tomato lemon butter. The Fish was thick, large, with a light coat of flour and pan seared perfectly. The meat was tender and flaky with a very mild flavor. The Parmesan spinach shallot was the bed for the fish and the lemon butter was light and refreshing with a slight citric tastes. It was wonderful! I couldn't taste much of the crab or artichoke however we weren't disappointed with the dish. VEAL & LOBSTER KATHY All natural free-range veal, white truffle risotto, sautéed asparagus, creamy Madeira wine sauce. Ever had a meal where you felt like Sally in 'When Harry Met Sally' when they were at the Diner? Well, the meal was close to that experience! The STAR of the show was the Truffle Risotto. I kinda' had an out of body experience when I tasted the Risotto. Truffle can be overpowering in its Umami taste and making Risotto can be difficult to accomplish. The chef knock it out of the park! The veal was tendered and fried with thin batter of flour and was coated with the Madeira sauce. The sauce wasn't heavy at all. You can taste the seasoning, wine and butter in it. The "knuckle" lobster was tendered and mild. Only downside was the size of the lobster knuckle. I wish I had more. Dessert: 4.75 Stars - We shared a Crème Brûlée. The freshly seared sugar coating on top was yummy and thin. I love the "crackle" sound when using a spoon to break it. The custard itself was smooth with the hint of vanilla bean. It worked well with the coffee. NOTE: If you prefer a strong coffee, you will be slightly disappointed. Price: 5 Stars - We both thought the price was reasonable for the items. It is not cheap but not too expensive either. However, there are some items listed as "market price" so ask your server if you are unsure. Our delicious and wonderful meal cost us around $200 with tip included. Also, the menu will change occasionally. So get your appetite ready and have a "date" with yourself, spouse, significant other or a group cuz you won't be disappointed!

Sometimes you get good advice from a hotel bartender on local places to eat around town and sometimes you get sent to a whole shit show. This time we found a winner!! We stayed at The Westin and were down at the bar grabbing drinks before we went out for dinner. He immediately, without hesitation, not only said this was the only place we should go, he also told us exactly what server we should ask for. He said that Casey was the man who we needed to see. (This was a year ago, so I hope he is still there). Arrived to a packed house but were able to slide in pretty quickly. The place is stupid cute. It's in an old diner and all of the old feel still in it. Fine dining in an old diner. Love it. I'm not into asking for servers I have never met so we just rolled the dice. Server arrives and it's none other than our man Casey. He was pretty rad I must say. He could have owned the place with all of the pride that beamed from him when he talked about the dishes. All of the food was fantastic. Menu may have changed in a year so I won't drool on about it too much. I will say this.... We had a Dry Aged Bone In Ribeye that was the special and holy shit. My wife still says it's the best steak she has ever had. Desserts were awesome! Fried pies with ice cream and a Cinnamon Roll Tiramisu. Oh my goodness! I cannot wait to come back here! '24 - 27/100

5 star dining. In Jackson, Mississippi for the evening and I asked ChatGPT, "If I had one day to live and was looking for my last dinner in Jackson, Mississippi, where would I want to go." It gave me three names. When I got to my hotel, Walker's was walkable (funny) so I went and enjoyed. OMG. I think I found my new happy place. Tiffany and the bar staff were great to me, and I had an incredible meal. One of those meals that you think is for a special occasion and you envy the people who can have it just for fun on a Tuesday. No-bread crabcake was so good, and the chocolate/strawberry fried pie made me want to move to Mississippi to eat here more often. Goodness!

[Walker's Drive in] Upscale American dining restaurant that gives this local, hole in the wall vibe located in the Fondren district in Jackson, MS. Welcomed by the hospitality of some friends, we decided to try this restaurant for dinner (yes this one has been a long time waiting for a review) Started off with their Calamari featuring their sauce which was the highlight. I got the Redfish Anna with their lump crab meat while my friends ordered the Everything Crusted Tuna and the Caesar Salad topped with lump crab meat. Everything came together nicely. I was slightly surprised by the portion of crab meat that comes per dish however maybe I shouldn't be considering the price per dish. The meals gave off a home cooked vibe, flavors were there. Some dishes stood out more than others. Only critique I have was the portion size given the price point however it was a fine dining restaurant. I have been to lunch once last year and have only had dinner at Walker's once over 7 years ago. So I can't say why I picked it for my birthday dinner but it turned out to be a great idea. It's a small, upscale spot on the inside. The outside is rustic and nostalgic and would never give you the impression it's a white tablecloth place inside. So never let what you see outside influence your decision to dine somewhere. Once seated, our server took our drink orders and ran down the specials for us. My mom ordered the seared scallops and my sister ordered the redfish Anna. She subbed the mashed potatoes for risotto and I subbed the thin beans for sautéed spinach. Hands down this is the best redfish dish in the area! The fish was done to perfection! Seasoned right and not dry. The mashed potatoes were very flavorful and the spinach was good too. My mom's scallops were good to but she and my sister said the risotto lacked flavor. The crème brulee was delicious but I wish I had ordered the fries blackberry pie my sister ordered. Both were good! Great way to spend my birthday and the servers even put a candle in my creme brulee. Check them out for a great meal!

Upscale diner setting with vintage touches- autographed celebrity portraits greet you at the door. Service with a smile (Makayla) was prompt, cheerful, and accurate. Blue plate special was catfish today, and a Fried Green Tomato BLT completed our table. We deduced the meals may have been plated up and had to wait for the fried green tomato, as that was the only item on the two meals served hot. (Fried fish at nearly room temperature... ). Lima bean cooked perfectly (not mushy) but needed seasoning ( no bacon or ham detected). I would return and give them another try, as the menu has lots of delicious-looking options. Dinner items look especially appealing.

Outstanding service and food was spectacular. This was the best steak I have had in a long time. My only call out it's a very small space..

O. M. G. I just had the best meal that I have had in ages. Here I was talking about Jackson not being a foodie town. Walker's drive-in was spectacular. I sat at the counter which was very snazzy. The service was excellent. I had a soft shell crab, flash fried with a garlic butter sauce. Then the foie grad, over some delicious crostini and a sauce to die for. With a cornbread blueberry compote upside down cake with homemade vanilla ice cream. Stuffed. And happy.

Walker's is amazing! Everything I had was soooo good. It's a casual upscale fine dining experience nestled in a building that kind of gives you a divey 50s diner vibe, from first appearance on the outside, but the ambiance inside is completely different. It's candlelit, white linens, etc. Autohraphed photos and notes from celebrities line the walls, along with food and wine awards. Food: Delicious! It was actually much better than I expected and very flavorful. I ordered the filet which came with mashed potatoes and asparagus, topped with crispy onions, friends ordered the Redfish Ana and Flounder. I tasted all three and all were amazing! Hard to choose my favorite between the steak and the redfish. The Redfish Was topped with crab meat and served over a bed of potatoes and asparagus drizzled on a Parmesan sauce. The fish was nice, flaky, and cooked to perfection! We also had calamari and fried lobster skewers as appetizers. Both were great, even down to the salad that came with the skewers. It was probably some of the best calamari I've had. Also, all of the food was super fresh. For drinks, I had Riesling and friends ordered the lemon drop martini and loved it. Walker's had a good wine list. Service: Good Parking: There's a small lot in the back, otherwise you can find street parking or park in another lot in the Fondren area and walk over. Price: Decent prices on appetizers and drinks. Entrees were pricey IMO for Jackson, MS.... but think fine dining. Overall: I loved it! I'd come back for an occasion. Its also a nice intimate date night spot for dinner.

This place lives up to its hype. From the novel of a wine list to my most favorite fish dish of all time, the Redfish Anna there's nothing but praise for our meal here with out of town family. Our only recommendation is to get the steak sauce on the side. The steaks were so perfectly prepared and full of flavor on their own, and having poured the sauce all over that quality of steak would've masked the perfection of their steak preparation. However the sauce on the redfish was amazing and you should get every bite of it. They also accommodated my open table reservation and requests for a booth in the main room (highly recommend for the best atmosphere). We can't wait to go back! read more

Great place for a little upscale dining. The main area is a little small, but they have expanded to another building in the same area. I always prefer to be seated there. It tends to seem more private and have a more, for lack of a better word, romantic atmosphere. The steaks are delicious. My wife says this is the only place that can cook them better than me (brushes off shoulder). While she tends to stick to the fillet, I try to be adventurous. I normally order something different every time (not that we can afford to eat here often). Just pick a fish at random, and rest assured it will be delicious. As for appetizers, I can not recommend the pork bellies enough. They are delicious, succulent and tender. Served in a verde sauce with a piece of the best cornbread since grandma. Not that it's anything like grandmas. It's very different, but also very delicious. If you're looking to splurge on some gourmet food but feel limited on your options....because...you know...it's Jackson, MS, this is the place to do it! read more

Jackson, you have an amazing restaurant on your hands here. Step back in time into this black and white Art Deco, yet still-hip-today dining room. It truly has a see-and-be-seen feel. I've dined here twice, both times visiting from Nashville, and I wish this restaurant was my city. Everything was exceptional, from the carpaccio special app, to their signature redfish Anna, to the amazing coconut curry sea bass, the snickerdoodle ice cream sandwich, and even their house salad. Wowzers! This place knows how to cook, plate, and provide excellent customer service. They're particularly talented when it comes to cooking fish. Absolute perfection. I really hate to write this review, because I truly do love Walker's and their food. I eat here around 4-5 times annually, and it is reserved for nice evenings out and special occasions. The issue I have with our dinner this past Saturday night is the adjacent building seating. We arrived for our reservation ready to have a nice meal as normal. The energy in the main dining room is great - it feels like a hopping restaurant and we were excited to get our eating and drinking on. Well, then the hostess says follow us and we go outside. Now, I have sat in the downstairs of the adjacent building many times, and it is fine. Not great, but fine. We went upstairs however. It was a shocker to say the least. Brightly lit, quiet as a mouse minus the soft jazz, and the decor - eek. It was just such a drastic vibe than the main dining room - it honestly felt like the continental breakfast area in the lobby of a hotel. The food and service were still good - but Walker's, come on now. Don't stick people up there and charge the same prices. It's not right and it's a terrible impression on folks who have never been to your restaurant before. It's not the same experience as the main dining room and you know it - I suppose that's why you put the big banner up with the picture of Walker's to remind folks where they are. If you go at lunch, don't expect to languish inside conducting a business meeting. There will be hungry people waiting to eat and get back to work. If you want delicious food served quickly and efficiently, you can enjoy a mighty fine veggie plate or daily blue plate special. They've come along way from the days of public school melamine plates divided into three sections served by Ms. Inez with the Friday special always being fried, catfish and spaghetti! read more

Best food in jackson. It's by far our favorite special event restaurant, pricy but so worth it. Call days or weeks ahead of time if you can. Good people. Great service also. Attentive and knowledgeable. Try the veal and lobster Kathy, you'll be happy. Fancy ish place so dress up nice if you want. Not required tho. read more

Walker's has been our favorite "celebration" place for years. It is consistently excellent in food, staff, and atmosphere. The place is small and tables close together but the buzz of conversation leads to an intimate dining experience. The main dining room has tables and booths, there is an outdoor patio that is wonderful in the evening, and also a second overflow room. We prefer the main dining area but all are lovely. They have a full bar and extensive wine list. We love the portobello appetizer and wedge salad for a start. While we've never been disappointed with anything on the menu, the special is always a great option and the steaks are amazing! Leave room for dessert because the fried pies and tiramisu are homemade and delicious. Even on a busy night, the waitstaff is incredible. If you're looking for a place to celebrate with friends or your significant other, you won't be disappointed at Walker's! read more

Date night this past weekend was at Walker's - of course we knew it would be ! FIRST DISH was the Wagyu Hanger Steak, served with the house salad with parmesan peppercorn dressing. The steak was served with wild roasted mushrooms (I don't even like mushrooms, OK? And, I ate them all.) and truffle Parmesan shoestring fries. Yummo - cleaned. my. plate. SECOND DISH was the Sea Scallops, served over a shrimp & feta risotto with an asparagus-fennel-bacon-mint salad. I wasn't able to snag a bite, but I can tell you it was good because the hubs had a happy plate. Also on our table was the THIRD DISH of Redfish Anna which is a signature Walker's dish. Always good. Always! We finished dinner with a FOURTH DISH of desserts - Heath Bar Tirimisu, Chocolate Pecan Pie, and the Big Bear Brownie. I have never had a bad experience with Walkers. From Redfish Anna to turkey tamales, they do not disappoint. Last week, I took a table of 8 to dinner there and 100% of the group was impressed. A great friend from NYC who travels the world, continues to say this is one of her all time favorite places to go. A do not miss for a nice night out. My favorite fine dining in Jackson. read more

Last night was our first meal at Walker's since it reopened due to Covid. If you are concerned about safety, Walker's will put you at ease. Temperature was checked before entering the dining room, all employees wore masks, and social distancing was practiced. Every other booth was used, and half the tables in the center were removed. This is definitely not what the name suggests. We were expecting burgers, fries and shakes and instead were treated to possibly one of the best casual upscale meals ever, and most certainly the best in Jackson. They provide high-end Southern dining with creative twists, all in a laid back and friendly atmosphere. Ok, maybe the latter is to be expected in Jackson but it was still a great experience in hospitality worth calling out. They are known for their steaks and the server was very knowledgeable about each cut, down to the marbling score. I definitely was not disappointed with my veal chop, it was cooked to perfection and everything else was just as exceptional. We started with generous servings of the portobello mushroom fries in a spicy, creamy dipping sauce and a most savory pork belly with biscuits and jam. The moist, tender tamales were quite flavorful as well. The desserts and wine/cocktail selection were not to be outdone either. My Malbec paired well with my steak, not buckling from the hearty cut. We also enjoyed every bite of our brownie a la mode, simple but not lacking in any way. This has to be on your must try list if you're in Jackson, really special. read more

Food is always solid here but my one dislike is the room temperatures their red wines are served. The food can be spectacular but then a warm glass of $15 red wine is delivered and puts a damper on the experience. Maybe someday they will approach the wine program with as much thoughtfulness as the food. read more

We usually go here for lunch, and they have some good burgers and plate lunches. The food I've had here has been consistently good, with the exception of that one time I ordered the chicken salad and cornbread dressing. Not my type of hype. There is a good selection of burgers, sandwiches, and salads for lunch, and this is one of the few places where you can actually get a green vegetable or two at lunch. If you order the baked chicken plate lunch, watch out for your chicken serving. I believe the one they gave me was from a cornish hen it was so small. I've had the experience of sitting on both sides, but would definitely prefer to sit in the main building. It wasn't uncomfortable, just the knowledge that someone had been outside with my food gave me the skeeves. The service has always been good, the meal prompt, but the wait can be rather long at lunch. I think that you can find something you like here at whatever price range you're looking for that day. read more

This restaurant, or Local 463, is the best in Jackson. Book it! Fish, steak, and awesome sides. Full bar with specialty cocktails. Lunch or dinner, eat here and you will be in heaven. American-Southern food, and highly rated by locals and visitors! Don't let the name "Drive-In" fool you, there is nothing Drive-In here...this is an upscale, spendy restaurant that is worth every penny. Highly recommended...get a reservation, and enjoy yourself. What a lovely place! Google the neighborhood - Fondren Arts District. So interesting. This is a small place. We had a reservation and where glad. Lloyd was an excellent server. The food and atmosphere were fabulous. We enjoyed the fried lobster skewers and red fish. They have homemade fried pies daily. That was hard to pass up. We went with the cornbread cake piled high with blueberries and a scoop of ice cream instead. So good. Try it out!! read more

I'm pretty sure that once I finish eating at every single restaurant in the world, this will still be my favorite. I didn't eat for 3 days leading up to my meal at walker's, was able to fit back into my nice pants and have enough room for double the appetizers. It was honestly quite amusing at how clean my wife and I plates were when we were finished. I would recommend whatever we got, but honestly, you could probably order anything off the menu and be delightfully pleased. When ordering drinks beware, you're going to get a drink that is fulla licker and you will be impaired. Got my 2nd DUI on the way home after dinner, but honestly, the 5 grand in fines and attorney fees was well worth my meal from Walker's. Thank you! read more

The food was amazing! I had the daily special which was red snapper with a okra,tomato and salsa on top, butternut squash puree and Tabasco on the bottom. Probably the best restaurant in Jackson. I would say equal to the JCT Kitchen in Atlanta or Snackbar in Oxford. I have never been disappointed by anything I have ordered. They are also REALLY conscious of food allergies. Even better? The kitchen staff will modify sides if they know about your allergies! I can't tell you how great that is. Soft shell crab BLT with horseradish comeback and sweet potato fries. Mom said it's a 10!!! I had the meatloaf blue plate with mash potatoes, cabbage, and salad with comeback. My OCD almost went into overdrive when my salad was on the same plate lol but the comeback is wonderful. The cabbage is very good and the potatoes with meatloaf topping was good. The meatloaf has a sweet tomato paste-y taste that I didn't care for, but overall a great lunch. Will definitely come back to try other lunch plate specials. The fresh sauté green beans could have a bit more garlic butter. 3.5 Stars Side dish: Deep Fried Brussel Sprouts. Hot, steamy and fresh. Has a slight crunch on the exterior leaves and was seasoned w a sprinkle of salt. 3.75 Dessert: Crème Brûlée and coffee. The crème brûlée crust was crunchy and the vanilla egg custard was good and smooth. It would have been better was a scoop of fresh whipped cream to go with the fresh fruit and crunchy layer. 5 Stars - French pressed Italian coffee. The coffee was a highlight of the dessert. It was hot, fresh, and strong. Just like an Italian coffee should be. It was between an espresso and caffe' Americano. Our, server, Andrew did a wonderful job on the coffee! First of all, I have recently moved back to MS after living in Santa Fe, NM for 13 years where there were many excellent restaurants. Walker's suffers from the problem I have experienced with most southern food - too much salt & pepper and it is generally overcooked. I guess the southern palate leans in that direction hence the health problems rampant in the state. My server was excellent so I cannot fault him. I would also caution against taking elderly relatives to Walker's for dinner. The tables are jammed too close together for them to navigate easily and the large tables appear to be constructed of a paper product which does not support well if they need the additional support for getting up & down. I have eaten there twice. Once at lunch where I sat at the counter. They didn't have the soup I was hoping to find, so I ordered a Taco appetizer which arrived warm, but not particularly hot. For dinner, I ordered the Poulet Rouge which as already mentioned was excessively seasoned with salt/pepper. I love Rosemary, but was challenged to taste any in the dish. Relatives from the coast who are savvy seafood eaters, complained their fish was overcooked. From my perspective, it appeared drowned in some sort of white sauce. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Jackson. They offer a variety of superb dishes, but I think the classic redfish anna is delectable. A few other favorites of mine are the veal, the tamale appetizers, the tuna, and you can't miss out on sides to share like Yukon gold mash or white truffle risotto. I would seriously go to walkers for the risotto alone. Walker's offers the perfect place to meet a friend or business acquaintance for lunch! It has been our go to birthday dinner restaurant, and is definitely one of my top recommendations if you are in the mood to "treat yoself." The desserts are superb, the wine selection is wonderful, and they have an awesome serving staff! If you are a visitor to the area or just a local who has never been- make it a priority to stop here and enjoy! read more

Excellent food and service. The red fish with lump crab was amazing! Wonderful flavors cooked right. The red snapper with mushrooms and capers was also a real treat. Alex was a pleasure to deal with and provided excellent, friendly service while answering questions and making suggestions. Then to top it all off we delighted in the Mississippi peach fried pie, dusted with cinnamon and sugar served with a vanilla bean ice cream and white chocolate sauce. It was absolute heaven. Crisp and clean flavor. Not overly sweet or oily tasting. Sheer perfection. You cannot go wrong dining at Walker's Drive-In. read more
