The Wallflour Bake Shop can be found at local farmers market, and based on their IG, we wanted to check them and try some of their popular pastries. We had an assortment box, including: +Mushroom Danish +a Stuffed Pepper Flat +Apple Cinnamon Even though we came early in the morning, the pastries were cold; not sure if these were made the morning of or the day before, but that was a bit of a letdown. The Mushroom Danish had a large sliced oyster mushroom on top, but would love it if there were more embedded into the pastry. The Stuffed Pepper Flat was okay, and not as spicy as the description stated with the ground beef. The Apple Cinnamon was okay, as the cream in between was a bit too much. Staff were friendly, and I liked how they had each pastries laid out so you know what type of pastry you're getting/ordering. +cold pastries +located at farmers markets

2 years later and I'm still a fan of Wallflour Bake Shop! This time, we got: - Lilikoi sticky bun, still as good as last time! I love lilikoi anything and this was no exception. This is fairly rich so a great item to share. - Curry pastry, I was expecting more of a curry powder taste but this reminded me of chicken tikka masala flavor but with veggies on top. So good! (we got this one two weeks in a row) - Black sesame chocolate croissant - pretty strong black sesame flavor but the nuttiness paired well with the chocolate. I enjoyed! - Bread (I think the flavor was sundried tomato and smoked gouda) - a unique combo and tasty. Tip: if you are only getting bread (and not pastries), there is a separate (shorter) line for just bread orders at the Kakaako farmers market.

Whenever I go to the Kaka'ako Farmer's Market, Wallflour Bake Shop is the first place I check out. Although it gets really packed, I haven't had too much of an issue finding free parking around the area. Their line gets pretty long, and some things do sell out if you're not early enough. They have a wide selection of savory and sweet pastries, with some seasonal changes to the menu. I love that they lay out each item so you can take a look before ordering - they do have an instagram you can check out as well for their menu. Everything that I've tried from them has been a hit, so I'm going to keep coming back!

The vanilla burnt basque cheesecake is so fluffy and rich, without being heavy. It reminds me of a Japanese cheesecake and Chinese egg tart filling combined. Really enjoyed the high quality chocolate and creamy mousse with thin crunchy layer on the bottom of the chocolate dome. The locally sourced ingredients make these pastries extra special. Also tried the sun dried tomato/smoked Gouda sourdough. It's a very rustic and hearty bread with a crusty and well baked exterior. The chocolate babka loaf is an excellent dessert bread with whole hazelnuts and ample chocolate swirl throughout. The service is pretty fast, they have a line only to purchase bread and another to buy both pastry and bread. Worth the wait, go early for the best selection.

I saw them on Instagram and was really excited to try their treats! I saw this chocolate dome like dessert and decided to get it - it was super smooth and silky both to cut through and to taste! I'm hoping to stop by again to try their basque cheesecake! - Miguel Morales Photography

Oh me oh my. I've been told by many a bread/pastry loving friend that I must try Wallflour and it did not disappoint! My favorites included: - Basque cheesecake: as a cheesecake aficionado, this is hands down one of the BEST cheesecakes I've had in Hawaii so far! Not too sweet, perfect texture, with that smokey burnt top...MMM! - strawberries and cream paris brest: holy moly, what an incredible composition of the perfect cream, sweet strawberry, and flaky pastry. like eating a cloud! - guava cream cheese danish: o-m-g guava should be on everything, and it really shined in this pastry! - any donut- they really do donuts well here. so yeasty/pillowy, perfect fillings. you can't go wrong with any of them! My favorite savory pastries included: - Squash flat. I'm not even a squash person but this was so delicious and balanced. - Tomato Pesto danish. Like a breakfast pizza. The tomato sauce was punchy and bright, the pesto was earthy, the pastry was perfect. Just OK for me: sesame croissant (I thought the texture was a little dry and not as flaky/tender as I would have liked but the sesame filling was quite nice), ham/gruyere croissant (again, croissant was rather dry for my liking but the ham was delicious), regular croissant (I am sensing a theme, maybe I just went on a day when the croissants weren't quite the way I like) This is the main reason I go to the Kakaako farmers market!!!

I said I would return. Each time I go to market, I go earlier than most vendors are open and I also don't go to both sides or the market. Habit, I guess. Market brought out a wonderful ambiance for all vendors!! Well, today I walked the entire market and also tried a bunch of different items. I told myself I wanted to try this place again because I knew my first review wouldn't be what they were about. I let them work out the kinks since they first were at market. I knew to give them another chance. I'm glad I did. Let me tell you. The flavor is good. In this humidity to create pastry so delicate and good like them is amazing. The after taste proved they use great butter. The ingredients are high quality and the freshness of the pastry even after hours of it being out shows the excellent workmanship of the bakers!! I'm just amazed and happy. They're organized and friendly. The prices are great. Let me tell you because there are places charging this much and they don't come near the flavor, texture or look of this vendor. I'm glad I came back and mahalo for doing what you do. Next time I want a buttery, flakey, not overly sweet, and high quality pastry, I'm coming back!!!

Yipppeee, we were lucky enough to be in town for the Kaka'ako Farmers Market in Honolulu held on Saturdays. There is just too much food available in Oahu and we had been buying lots of snacks. We saw the Wallflour booth and everything looked so delicious. My wife and I planned to buy one pastry to share. Everything looked so good that we ended up buying 3 pastries. We tried a cinnamon roll, a banana hazelnut croissant and a pear osmanthus brioche tart. All three were delicious, light, fresh ingredients and loved the fruits. The cinnamon roll was the right chewiness, nice frosting and cinnamon seasoning. The hazelnut banana filling was actually evenly distributed inside the croissant and each bite was tasty. The pear osmanthus brioche tart was soft, excellent balance of sweetness and taste of fresh fruit all combined in a great pastry. On our next trip, we plan to try more and different pastries. Now that we are familiar with Walflour we can be strategic in how many and where we buy treats to eat. Save your dessert appetite and get multiple pastries on Saturday mornings.

Wallflour Bake Shop at the Kakaako Farmers Market is a must stop for any pastries enthusiast. On a recent visit, I got to try their cinnamon roll and sticky bun. The cinnamon roll was absolutely incredible, it was so soft and surpassing even the my beloved Cinnabon in taste and texture. The sticky bun was equally delicious, making Wallflour a standout among the market's offerings. If you're ever at the Kakaako Farmers Market on a Saturday morning, be sure to check them out you won't be disappointed.

Amazing high quality pastries and bread! I went to kakaako's saturday pop up and had to try their pastries. I was attracted by the black sesame chocolate croissant, taco breakfast pastry, cinnamon roll, earl grey grapefruit, and Kimchee monkey bread. I was also lucky to snag their Japanese milk bread loaf! I have to say I was disappointed in the black sesame croissant. However, their savory pastries were amazing. I really enjoyed the breakfast pastry with the egg and chorizo in it! Then the Kimchee monkey bread had to be my second favorite followed by the cinnamon roll. The earl grey grapefruit pastry was a cream puff basically. It was sooo tasty but pricey. It cost more than my loaf of bread! The quality of ingredients is on point though. I am definitely going back for the savory pastries and to try all the other baked good!! They do have a pop up on Mondays from 7-11 at the iliili cash and carry but it's hard to go if you're working. Definitely worth trying!

07:30. 24th in line. And they don't technically open for another 30 minutes. No, no. It's not worth it. Go stand in another line..... and leave all these delights for ME! Seriously, it doesn't get much better than this. The freshness. The entire flavor spectrum beyond just sweet (which by the way, is very well controlled). The refinement. The near perfection. Fresh baked, gently sweet, brioche, lightly candied tangerine slice with its juicy interior and bitter citrusy pith and skin, vanilla imbued sweetened kisses of torched meringue all come together to make an incredibly balanced, multi dimensional... oh heck, straight up delicious bready treat. The cinnamon roll, wow! Ultra fresh, fluffy interior with swirls of cinnamon and almost zero interior sweetness topped with a gently sweetened cream cheese spread. No glazing, no candied nuts. Just perfect sweet, tart balance. Don't even get me started on the sublime black sesame roll with a smear of tahini in the interior or the to die for Basque cheesecake with its heavenly airy, smooth, creamy texture. It's like wearing silk undies. Oops. TMI. Prices match the quality $5-$7 each. Very friendly service. Cards through square. Kakaako Farmers Market, mauka side, extreme mauka row. Probably best you don't bother going. Yeah. that would be best. Mahalo plenty. JK.

I saw pics of their pastries and immediately knew I had to order some! Luckily, on Mondays, they are currently doing pop ups at Ilii ilii Can and carry in makiki :) I ordered, Korean corn cheese sourdough bread, a lillikoi sticky bun, einkorn biscuit, cara cara vanilla brioche, and savory bread pudding. Everything was so pretty - especially the brioche! Lillikoi sticky bun: sticky and delicious, and most importantly, I could taste the lillikoi :) Cara cara vanilla brioche: this was by far the star! So pretty, and the brioche was delicious and paired so well with the citrusy cara cara orange which was not chewy or tough at all also, it was topped with little droplets of meringue which definitely added to the taste and beauty of the pastry :) Einkorn biscuit: the biscuit tasted like a normal biscuit.. more on the dry side.. but it was served with a yummy guava jelly and butter Savory bread pudding: honestly I only took a few bites of it so far because I was full from everything else lol! But it was very good and I can't wait to toast it up in the oven Korean corn cheese bread: tastes pretty much just like a sourdough bread with corn and some red peppers added in. We still enjoyed it though with some butter slathered on :) Overall, I highly recommend this place, and I'll be back to try more menu items and get more of those orange brioche pastries!

Pork luau and ratatouille flat

I have a soft spot for moderately overpriced baked goods, but they better be delicious. And Wallflour definitely delivers! I've loved everything I've tried from this small popup. I've had the Einkorn biscuit, Khorasan financier, strawberry lemon bostock, focaccia, fougasse, garlic cheesy pull-apart bread, savory bread pudding, ham and cheese croissant, ratatouille flat, pork luau danish, kinako hunny bunny, and chocolate tart with coffee cream. Everything was so good, but I really recommend the strawberry lemon bostock, garlic cheesy pull-apart bread, and kinako hunny bunny. But you really can't go wrong with anything they make, I'm sure. I preorder online for pickup on Mondays at 'ili'ili cash and carry. It's so easy and then you're sure you get what you want. It can be a little wait to pick up though, because there's only one line for pick up and orders. Also, this does create the problem of impulse buying, as the beautiful baked goods are sitting in front of you. Check them out! Or don't, so there will be more for me!

Every morning, without fail, people gathered outside waiting patiently for pastries. No flashy signs. No gimmicks. Just quiet consistency. That alone intrigued me. By the second day, my mind was made up. I'm an early riser, so the plan was simple: go on my usual morning run and arrive before the rush. Japanese culture and craftsmanship have long fascinated me. Through close friends with family roots tracing back to Japan, I've developed a deep appreciation for the culture -- the discipline, the rituals, the precision, and the respect for process. There's a beauty in the intentional pace at which things are done. Nothing rushed. Nothing careless. This bakery embodied that philosophy perfectly. The space itself was small, modest, and aromatic. No overdesigned interiors. No influencer bait. Just the comforting smell of fresh bread and butter hanging in the air. Some bakeries hide behind elaborate architecture and presentation, but this place understood something more important: when the product is exceptional, the product becomes the attraction. The pastries ranged from playful and charming to elegant and refined. The Salt & Butter bread was an instant staple -- savory, warm, and impossibly light. The dough practically dissolved like air. Thankfully, nothing felt overly heavy, because I completely lost control of my ordering strategy. The Kobo Kuma -- a soft bear-shaped bun filled with homemade vanilla bean custard -- was perfection. Equal parts cute and comforting. The Cinnamon Roll was solid, but the Haupia pastry completely stole the show. For those unfamiliar, Haupia is a traditional Hawaiian coconut pudding found throughout Polynesia. The flavor here was subtle yet lingering, delicate without disappearing. The kind of flavor that quietly stays with you long after the last bite. Then came the Blueberry Danish -- beautiful, buttery, and perfectly sweet. I didn't even make it to the savory options this time, which honestly just gives me another reason to return. And I absolutely will -- whether back here in Hawaii or perhaps at one of their mainland locations in Los Angeles. Some places become popular because of hype. Others because of quality. This bakery earned its line.

They have ice cream, cakes, and other desserts Also tip: if you are ordering a malasada also order a coffee or a matcha drink to go with it. The cinnamon sugar from the malasada just matches so perfectly with a drink this restaurant is also a nice place for walking! There's lot of stores and restaurants to walk around! I'm trying to remember but I think there was a book off that was not too far from here! If you either drive or maybe walk. Service: staff was super helpful and friendly while I was there. I was having an issue with my online order because my phone was being glitchy and they were so nice in helping :) Also wanted to note their branding is so cute!! They even sell merch items too

Everyone knows to go to Leonard's for freshly made malasadas, and the constant crowds there attest…read moreto their quality and variety (review: https://yelp.to/jaduiZfQRq). However, there are many alternative malasada purveyors throughout Honolulu, so I depended on local vloggers to find the best ones. This one popped up often on YouTube, and as luck would have it, we were dining at The Pig & The Lady on the next block. How calorifically convenient. We took the opportunity to stop by for a pre-dinner snack since they closed at 6PM. It's a cute shop with multiple sweets including quite a selection of housemade ice cream and delectable mouthfuls called Cake Bombs (Photo 10). We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. I went for the Coffee, while Jamie chose the daily special, Cinnamon (Photo 6). They were soft and tasty, quite comparable to Leonard's albeit a tad smaller. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). Truth be told, it stole the show from the malasadas. FOOD - 4 stars... the malasadas were good, but that ube dessert was next level AMBIANCE - 4 stars...really a takeout operation with a lot of temptations SERVICE - 4 stars...very calm and orderly TOTAL - 4 stars...yet another spot for sweet Hawaiian decadence RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? I'm happy to see a local business thriving but I hope they can improve their customer flow. The baked goods looked as inviting as always but they seemed a day-old or something. The butter horn was hard and not flaky as I've come to expect and the chocolate of the Boston Creme donut wasn't creamy. They may wish to consider: 1, Clearly delineating the line for the restaurant from the bakery. It was super busy for both so there was a lot of confusion. 2. Perhaps placing the number machine for the bakery closer to the door? Tourists aren't familiar with the system so it leads to some unnecessary dissatisfaction. 3. The staff had to leave the counter to get coffee - hot or iced. The condiments for the coffee were on the showcase so people had to be in everyone's way to get their sugar and cream. In fact, if you were standing near the door you had to go through people waiting in line back into the establishment to get those items. But, with all this, the two ladies at the counter were remarkably composed and helpful.
