Wallse always seems to be getting better and better. The food is as delicious as the art on the walls is terrific. Wallse is now a true West Village institution. The service and hospitality are outstanding. Remember to take time to look at the art, it is a phenomenal collection.

Ambiance (5/5): The restaurant is very small with minimal/simplistic decor. There's a full bar and several small tables nearby. Might be a little tight on seating but it wasn't busy on the particular early weeknight. Service (5/5): The service is spectacular with constant check-ins throughout our whole dining experience. No complaints. We came for their $60 NYC Restaurant Week 2025 menu. Overall expect small portions but a really great presentation and a blast of different flavors and texture. Watermelon martini - delish! It was made using real watermelon, which we saw being prepared at the bar. Spicy summer corn soup - I really liked the presentation and it was tons of unexpected flavor, tiny bit of spice. Grilled Bavette Steak - The meat was pretty tender although I did not think it had too much taste. The sides of the root and red cabbage were flavored well and complimented the steak. A little underwhelmed by this dish. Salzburger Nockerl - very unique, light, and not overly sweet Perhaps for a place which used to be a Michelin star, I was kinda expecting more. It was operating and felt like a fine dining experience!

Slick quaint Village restaurant with good service and Austrian / German comfort food 5 star ambience: the exterior os almost like a movie set specification for "quaint Greenwich Village bistro". Inside it's beautiful in a chic classic way 4 star food: good bit pricey Central European classics are their main focus. Think every variation on schnitzel you can imagine 4 star service: service is good but slightly frosty. As efficient as Lufthansa, but just as unsmiling...

Despite being open for a long time , it's only My first time here AND it's during restaurant week ( now month ). While prices are soaring everywhere , I think this place is worth trying . I had the chicken liver mousse ( rich as one would expect and probably better shared ), schnitzel ( perfectly pounded and breaded ), and the soufflé . Glad they have RW wine deals as well . Surprise it's not super busy ( maybe because it's a weekday - Monday ) and summer ( most people are away). Cute cozy restaurant in the west village , great service and ambiance .

Lovely Austrian restaurant in the West Village. This is a great spot for a date or special occasion dinner. The menu changes seasonally. Our server gave us great recommendations on the spring menu suggesting we start with the white asparagus which was incredible.

Had Saturday brunch here and the cheddar bratwurst was great but the mushroom cheese spaetzle was quite bland

I happened upon this restaurant recently and wanted to check it out. We grabbed a late Thursday dinner here. We ordered the rabbit schnitzel, steak tartare, heirloom peach salad, and the goulash. Everything was good, except the meat in the goulash was overcooked. The rabbit was definitely not the star of the dish but it was still good, just not exceptional. We had a bottle of wine and the wine was funky, but good. Austrian wine, a Pinot. Service was attentive and great.

First time I walked by this place, the fragrant aroma lingered for a long time, which made me want to come back and try it. Finally made it out to this place tonight, and I have to we are very disappointed. Service: Staff were all pretty friendly and welcoming, however noticed that our waiter was attentive but felt insincere at times. What we ordered: Oyster with tuna and caviar. 1/5 For a $27 appetizer, these have got to be one of the worst oyster we have ever had. The oysters were the size of a $1 coin, and were very dry. It seemed they added the raw tuna to cover up for the lack of the oyster salt water you expect from fresh oysters. Furthermore, the oysters / tuna were a bit fishy/not fresh tasting. Lobster soup: 2/5 Grossly fishy...there is also no lobster inside or it at all. Just tastes like a fishy tomato soup with hints of broccoli? Lobster Ravioli: 3/5 Most of the lobster was over cooked and really tough and chewy. I would say they did an excellent job on the sauce. (Honestly would have to say it's the best part of the entire meal). The ravioli itself however was gross because it was difficult to pick up without the entire thing falling apart. I expected more from a $48 dish. Short rib: 3/5 The beef was a bit tough to chew...and the sauce looked a bit unappetizing. There was no wow factor for the marinade and sauce. They call the side a "potato purée", however it's just some basic mashed potatoes that did not have any wow factor. Disappointing for a main dish with such a high price point. Pretzel w/ Butter ( appetizer) 2/5 Tiny pretzel, nothing special about it. The butter wasn't even that unique. Drinks: 5/5 Delicious cocktails and mock tails. Ordered the gurke which tasted like a dill cucumber refreshing spritzer. Mock tail was a delicious cucumber mint mix. Although we are glad we came back to try this place, don't think we would come back here. The price is not worth it for a meal that's mediocre at best. Save your money and Just go to Boucherie instead

I am SO glad we did. The vibe drew us in, they had great music bumpin from the outside, it looked lively and welcoming. Let me tell you- I would have skipped dinner and just stayed here all evening if it was my choice! But alas, my husband wanted a bit more to eat. But let me tell you- their knowledge of wine is PRISTINE! I can't tell you what white wine we had but they captured our tastes perfectly. We also shared a bruschetta and it was deliciouso! First I'll start with the wine - we ended up trying all three happy hour wines (HH until 7), which the tables favorites were the white and we ended up getting a bottle to split once HH ended (but I really enjoyed the other vino verde option). It was incredibly refreshing and paired well with the many tinned fish options. As you'd expect - it's a pretty massive selection and there is bound to be a varietal and glass for any palate. It's also attached to a wine store - so it's fine to see all the bottles when peaking over. Food-wise - this is where it was hit or miss, they have a pretty extensive menu (with a whole tinned fish section!) and we ended up ordering the buratta on focaccia (buratta was excellent, focaccia was too dense for my tastes), mushroom truffle crostini (way too salty), the flatbread with sliced kielbasa (was fine), halloume (table favorite ), tinned sardines in lemon oil (delicious), tinned smoked trout (my favorite). Overall the four of us were very full at the end of the meal! The space itself felt very relaxing and rustic, and definitely got busier as the night went on (we got there at 6:50 and left around 9). The service was also fast and attentive - even for the amount of tables they were serving. Overall - I'd definitely go back again, and maybe just focus on the wine and another tinned fish selection!

Thank you to my lovely friend who spent who knows how long trying to get a reservation here. Chilled celtuce (4/5): is it a combination of celery and lettuce? idk but it kinda reminded me of radish, with a clean/slightly bland flavor but it had this hydrating quality to it and a nice crunch. Sesame shao bing (5/5): a literal drug in the most innocuous and tasty form of flatbread. It has the crispiest flake on the outside with a perfectly chewy doughiness to it and a literal slab of butter inside, which melts in real time (careful not to go too ham and let it dribble down your arms and get all over your clothes...because it's just THAT good). Sweet & sour short rib (4/5): the cook on these short ribs were super tender, I just think the marinade was very strong, with a particularly vinegary aroma. Eight treasure rice pudding with sticky toffee (4/5): she's a 4 only because I don't like toffee, but the rice pudding was hands down heavenly. Service was solid, and they have a chic, dim ambience for the tables inside whereas the outdoor seating sits underneath the lanterns and soaks up the streets of Chinatown, so each have a merit of its own.

Walked in at 8pm on a Wednesday and was able to sit right away for a limited time (1.5hrs), which was plenty for us. It's small, as most places in NYC are, and dark & intimate. They also have shared tables, so we sat with another couple. Huge wine selection. Everything we ate was delicious. To me, the Celtuce is more of a novelty - cool, yummy, fresh but small. The crudo was the same thing. So in my opinion, I don't think it's worth the money. The noodles were so good we got 2 orders of it - you cannot skip!! The dessert was also unlike anything I've had before. If you love sticky rice and caramel/toffee, you have to try it. Overall, I do think it was very expensive but the ambiance + some of the dishes were well worth it. I'd definitely come back.
