I can count on one hand how many times I've ever had to escalate and get a manager. I'm not typically the kind of person who would ever say don't give your business somewhere, either. However, this is more than one of those times. This is one of the absolute worst cases of customer experience I have ever experienced. And I won't put this on the employees; they are doing the best they can. This fall squarely on the shoulders of an absolutely horrific manager: Chase. This is a location. I have typically enjoyed. Good deals, good options, excellent customer service. Today, I was returning something that had been given as a gift. The employee was helpful at the return desk and asked if I wanted the money on the original credit card from the person who gave me the gift, or on a gift card. I said that the gift card would work, so I could replace the items right then. I had some excellent selections, and also had some ice cream, and went to the checkout area. I was surprised to find that my new gift card would not work. An employee came over and kindly helped me, but she was unsuccessful as well. The team lead was quick to come over and try to help me further, and then brought me over to another checkout section, but she had no success either. Things went downhill from here: one of the apparent managers, named Chase, came over and told me that he checked the video cameras and decided that this credit card I was just given was not the credit card that returns had given me. I politely told him that it was, and I showed him the receipt of return. He said he didn't care, the numbers weren't the same, and then he started demanding that I check my pockets, like he was airport security. His entire demeanor was extremely accusatory and beyond rude. I turned out my pockets, pulled out my wallet, showed him everything. I had nothing to hide. He said that he didn't care, and that I was not telling the truth. He refused to help in anyway, and he said that this was completely my fault. He told me that there was no one else in the store that I could talk with either, and said that I had to deal with it. I asked that they return the items that I had brought back, and he said that if he did that then that would be theft. In short, he refused to let me use my refund money, and he refused to give me back my items. His behavior was simply appalling; I've never seen anything like it before. I tried to reiterate one more time that I was trying to work to get this resolved, and that instead of trying to simply prove that he was right to me, I asked that he worked with me to resolve this issue. He refused, and told me again that I was wrong. I was forced to leave my new items, already bagged, at the front register and leave the store. Until this employee, Chase, is dealt with, and until things are made right, I cannot in good conscience go back here or ever recommend anyone else do that either. read more

The products I was interested in (bandages and wound coverings) looked like many of the packages had been opened or damaged. Alcohol wipes (prep for self-injection of insulin, etc.), a commonly used item, were completely out of stock. Checkout was very slow, even though the store was not crowded, because only THREE self-checkout machines were in operation; the rest were blocked off. This is really pitiful! I'd like to see this store brought up to reasonable standards. Most Walmart stores are nicely maintained: what's wrong here at Grossmont Center? Let's get it fixed! read more

I was mesmerized by the shopping cart escalator! It's the little things that entertains me!! If you haven't shopped at a Walmart, it's like a one stop shopping experience. They offer furniture, lawn and garden supplies, clothing, toys, pharmacy needs, toiletries, kitchen supplies, bathroom supplies, baby supplies, holiday supplies, books, electronics, and much more!!! Overall, it's a large store. You can be in here for hours. Ample shared parking. Escalator and elevator for your shopping convenience. Cashier was very friendly and helpful. read more

This is my First time doing my grocery shopping at this Walmart Supercenter Store located in La Mesa, CA. This Walmart Store is very clean and organized in their floor displays. I was serviced by Audrina today she was very friendly and she bagged up my groceries with my canvas shopping bag. I spent about only $38.50 on 14 food products I bought at this Walmart Store . I looked at all the prices are much cheaper than the Walmart Store I do my grocery shopping at the College Grove Avenue location in Lemon Grove. The wait time was very short another 10 minutes. This Walmart has a first and second floor. First floor containing most of the food and clothing. Second floor containing all the house appliances and electronic goods. The store is easy to navigate as they have posters above the escalator stating where everything is located. The workers are very friendly and helpful when searching for specific items. read more

If I could give ZERO stars, I absolutely would. I am writing this review to warn customers who need to return online purchases. I have had extremely bad experiences with a customer service staff member at this Walmart (I will call him "A", as I do not know his name). He regularly sits at the customer service desk. Based on my experiences, this person does not act with honesty or a customer-focused attitude. Instead, he appears to misuse his position and makes returns unnecessarily difficult. If you have online items to return, I strongly recommend going to another Walmart Supercenter. Do NOT come to this location. I interacted with this employee twice, and both experiences were unacceptable. First incident (December 2025): I purchased a watch online. When I tried to return it in-store, A handed me a small piece of paper stating that Walmart stores could not accept the return. I was told to return it online instead. However, when I tried to initiate the return on Walmart.com, the order was marked "Not eligible for return." This was not true originally, and I later realized that A had placed this restriction, making the return impossible through Walmart. As a result, I had to contact the third-party seller myself, ship the item back at my own expense, and wait for a refund. As of today, I still have not received any refund, even though I mailed the item back on December 29, 2025. Second incident (March 2026): I bought car fluids and oil online and picked them up at another Walmart location. My receipt clearly stated that the items were eligible for return until March 17, 2026. When I tried to return two items at this store, A immediately refused and said they were not returnable. I showed him my receipt, but he refused to even look at it, insisting that his screen showed "not eligible." I asked why returns were always so difficult at this location. He called his supervisor, who confirmed that the items were returnable, and suggested I return them at the pickup store. When I went there, the staff discovered that red text had been added to my order stating "NOT ELIGIBLE FOR RETURN." The employees were shocked when I explained what happened. This behavior is unacceptable. If this Walmart cannot process certain returns, customers should be clearly informed, not blocked in the system. An employee should never add restrictions that make a customer's return impossible. This is the first time in the U.S. that I have experienced such treatment at a customer service desk. It is extremely disappointing and does not reflect the Walmart I used to trust. read more

Went to Walmart for a few items. This is my local Walmart and I shop here every now and then. The staff is super friendly most of the time. Walmart used to be the type of store that you could go to get anything for a reasonable price but nowadays it seems that they have skyrocket their prices just like many higher end stores like Albertsons. I don't like for as much as they raise the prices they never seem to have enough staff working the registers even with self checkout. They put like 1 person over the self checkout to manage 12 stations never mind the error code often displaying during a transaction that has you waiting on that same manager to help fix the issue. The regular registers are always short staff and have long lines that often go back to the jewel section. The staff is so nice but I'm not sure how they work under the conditions and I'm sure all customers aren't nice to them having to wait in line so long. The vibe is a chill but a hurry grab what you need and race to the shortest line kinda ordeal. The down stairs womens restroom can always use some tending but is why use the upstairs restrooms if I need to go really bad they are clean. Parking is parking because it's in a plaza what can you really expect? Wish they would hire more staff and not have customers waiting a longer time to check out than they shopped. The fact that I have to keep my phone in my hand the whole time because I have to scan every damn thing in the store to find out how much it costs is absolutely exhausting. I'd rather just shop on Amazon. I get that the beauty section is in all locked cabinets because of theft, but standing around and waiting for someone to unlock it and then dragging them around the whole department so I can pick stuff out is so obnoxious. Because my AirPods were defective, I tried to swap them, but Walmart wanted me to pay an extra $25 because the sale ended. To make matters worse, they put the refund on a merchandise credit before explaining the price difference, so I couldn't even get my money back to my credit card. So disappointing, I see many workers but when I use their buttons to ask for a product, I waited over 10 minutes with no help. I walked out without buying anything because their service is so poor. Hire more workers or pay them enough to help your customers. It's almost like they're making it harder to shop in store to push online sales, which they price higher. I have been here recently with one of my blind clients who needed help in getting a pair of noise canceling headphones and we went to the electronic department to get assistance. We found a representative who is an independent contractor for wireless services but not an Walmart employee. When an actual employee finally arrived, they didn't have the key and provided next to no help for us and ignored our requests and refused to help in any way possible. I buy 2 things. im at the check out close to the front door where the security Walmart person is. When you pay for your items. it does ask you print receipt or not. of course I do print my receipt. I am asked to check my receipt. if they give you the option of do not print receipt would they still ask you for your receipt to check. I think they just need to bring cashiers back. Walmart representative , Evelyn, approached to assist when she saw I was having difficulty. She was able to get the transaction to go through. It took a number of complicated steps, including swiping and inserting and re-inserting and re-swiping. All through the process. Evelyn was smiling and helpful. Very interesting Walmart situated within the Grossmont Center in La Mesa. The parking lot was rather full on a weekday. The store itself is multiple stories and feels a tad claustrophobic compared to their other massive locations. The employees were not the most helpful. The biggest letdown was the lack of fresh produce. We spent time walking around the grocery section in search of fresh greens to no avail. I take them to the Walmart at Grossmont Center, in La Mesa, and Ivonne, the customer service supervisor, tells me they will not accept a "third party transaction return", and that I must contact the third party myself, and ask for a refund. I tell her the pants were ordered from Walmart and my credit card says the payment went to Walmart. She refuses to refund my money. I go to ask to speak to the store manager, and I am told the store manager is not even in the store, and won't return til the next day. This 3 PM in the afternoon. I call customer service for Walmart Corporate office, they take care of every thing, refund my money. Do not shop at this Walmart, and expect good customer service. This Walmart has a big parking lot but the layout inside of the store is just really weird and confusing... We had a hard time looking for the stuff we needed... The self checkout machines were so hard to use... they kept freezing There were many sizes missing and everything was just so unorganized in the women underwear session. The worst part is they locked pregnancy sticks, condoms and any sexual related items in a glass shelf, if you need anything you will have to ring a bell which is by the shelf, we rang the bell and no one came to help us for a while, the only thing we could do was ask employees that walked by and see if they could help us open the shelf, they kept telling us they couldn't ... finally one of the employees came and she was just standing there watching us... Accessibility: there are accessible/disabled parking spots across from the entrance, motion-activated doors to enter, and regular shopping carts inside, as soon as you enter. I did not see any motorized shopping carts...if they have any, they must have all been in use. The isles are nice and wide, and it is well lit inside. Only self check out counters were open. There are also two levels to this Walmart but you have to go inside and go half way down the first level to get to the elevator for the second level. Experience: their selection is much better than smaller Walmarts I have been to, but besides this I didn't like it being two levels, the elevator not being next to the entrance, and seeing no motorized carts. read more

I think Walmart gets a bad rap mainly because of the service and the bad customers that have been caught in photos (people of Walmart) or on WorldStar. I have to say that I have witnessed a fight at this particular Walmart a while back. For the most part, I haven't had a bad experience during the times I shopped here. I was a little bummed recently to find many food shelves empty, from panic shoppers, during our COVID-19 stay at home order. Prices here are usually lower compared to Target. Selection on goods varies, but for the most part I'd say they sell pretty much everything Target does. Whether they have it in stock or not is another story. The workers here are usually friendly and helpful when I've needed assistance. It's a pretty big Walmart with an upstairs level. I usually find what I need and I'm very thankful they have a huge self checkout area. I would hate to have to stand in long lines here. There is a McDonald's in this Walmart. There is an average amount of seating. Tables aren't always clean though. Parking isn't too big of an issue. It's nice because there is also a Target at this shopping center. Between the two, you will probably find what you need. Walmart isn't bad, good, or great. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Filthy store with a repulsive odor. The store is cluttered and disorganized. Little to no space for cart in aisle. Visible mold in refrigerators and freezers as well as most of the produce and plants. I am astonished that they managed to kill a cactus and let it mold . When I brought it up to a nearby employee, I was given a dirty look and they asked me, "what do you want me to do about it?" Price gouging at play at Walmart. As we have been told thousands of egg laying chickens have died or been euthanized due to bird flu. Consequently the egg supply has been impacted raising the price of eggs to new heights. Walmart leads the way with a dozen eggs going for close to $10. Decided to swing by Trader Joe's. Walmart is not for everyone but they do offer some good buys. We stop to get birdseeds and usually find some others much needed things while there. There prices are very competitive. The staff is nice and helpful. Check out the clearance clothing. Sometimes you can get a good sweatshirt for $3. Self checkout is easy with plenty of support staff to help. Now I thought I had written a review for this place last year. Apparently not, but here's the update, it got a bump from zero to three stars from me. My first time shopping at their store previously wasn't thrilled, I was at the toy section and the employee was completely rude and note helpful on my item. This time though, I came in to find another item from collectibles near electronic department, and the teamlead Paul was so knowledgeable, he explained to me what's going on so that when I'm going to write another reviews regarding other two Walmart locations where I went tonight, I won't blame the store entirely. So back to the item I was searching for, I came to College Walmart yesterday they pulled up the barcode and the system said zero everywhere; and I did believe them, but today out of the blue I went visited the Santeria Walmart, they had a tons on the racks but their scanner couldn't tell me neither their employees, so I went to the one on El Cajon which had zero stocks and their scanner was the same situation. Not until I arrived to Grossmont Walmart, and Mr Paul was able to tell me that they were using different apps to scan, and at least he knew more than any of those other people I interacted with, at least he could give me a clear explanation, unlike some people were beyond my comprehension. Guess I still need to go to a few stores tomorrow for my toy hunting, but I was less pissed after Paul. Thank you Paul, your store might not be perfect, but like you said, I needed to speak to the right person because they didn't train you all equally. 3 stars and maybe next time you got more, still have hopes for the place read more

I've been going to this Walmart for years. I just went and purchased $150 worth of stuff. As I'm leaving the parking lot I realize I only have one bag, plus the cat litter, pack of white claws, and laundry detergent that obviously weren't bagged. I immediately bust a U-turn and go right where I left my cart, which was in between two empty parked cars. Nothing was in the carts, which I figured because 1. There's no way I would've left bags in the cart 2. If I did, there's not way anybody could've taken them in less than 2 minutes from when I busted a U-turn. I go back in the store expecting them to be with the cashier who checked me out. Nope. I go to customer service, nobody turned anything in. I don't know what happened here-- not sure if someone took the bags out of my cart that was off to the side when I was paying or what, but now I can't even get ahold of the store to speak with a manager and the customer service line is closed for the night, which is infuriating. I need cameras to be checked or because this does not make any sense. Update: I went back to the store after trying to call the store multiple times. They checked the tapes. The cashier didn't give me my bags, but somehow they disappeared and nobody knows where the bags went. The manager had me go back and get all the items I was missing (which was about 25, I left with about 6 items.) I literally had to go off of memory since the receipts don't even say a full time for the items. The manager then proceeded to go through my receipt and match all of the items and ask for my help to read numbers that she couldn't see. She didn't see some of the items on there and therefore would not let me have them. I realized that I didn't pick up some items, so I went to go get them and I come back, the manager is no where to be found. At this point I found another manager and demanded a refund. This whole ordeal took over 2 and a half hours. What a joke. All because they didn't give me my bags and supposedly lost them in a 5 minute period. This is a very strange Walmart. I should also note, Walmart was a daily stop in my mid-twenties. I was on tour playing drums with a band and there was a need each and every day to stop at a Walmart for something. Needless to say, I've seen a lot of Walmarts around the United States after almost three years of non-stop touring. I think there may be multiple entrances to this particular Walmart but I walked into an area that had really low ceilings, which made it feel small and claustrophobic. Once I advanced a bit more it did open up a bit but I've never experienced a Walmart store that seemed so crowded and cluttered. Not crowded with people, just crowded with... stuff. It felt disorganized and absolutely messy. Guess what? I couldn't find what I was in search of so I had to ask not one, not two, not three, but four employees, all with various levels of (non)concern and no willingness to help me locate my item.
