The parking lot was fairly full as was the store. When we walked into the store, the produce was straight-ahead and the easiest to find of the items we were shopping for. I don't remember ever seeing such a large volume of fruits and vegetables! We continued down the food aisles on the same side of the store, which could have been a store on its own, given the square footage it occupied. The challenge after the food: find the birthday party paper products. Thankfully, I opened the Walmart app and found the store map and the product search, which both turned out to be very accurate! If we hadn't had the store map, our stay would have been far longer, and we would have wished we had a AAA Triptik! Checking out also turned out to be fast, especially compared to the self-checkout lines which backed up to the fairly wide main aisle. Because I used the Scan & Go feature in the app, I could scan the products as I put them in the cart (which seemed even larger than Co$tco'$), and go through the dedicated lane to validate the purchase. We were the only customers who were using this lane! Best part of the trip! So, if you've never shopped in this super center before, be sure to download the Walmart app beforehand. You'll thank yourself at the Scan & Go check out lane.

This Walmart Neighborhood Market is conveniently located on Alafaya Trail. It is convenient not only because it is on a main road, but is also convenient to the University of Central Florida (UCF) so I am sure that a lot of the students and faculty frequent these aisles. All in all, I will give this particular Walmart Neighborhood Market three stars. It is nothing special, however, but as I said, it is a Walmart Neighborhood Market and you can get in and out in a quick amount of time (though it is Walmart, so expect to check yourself out).

Our go to store is Publix, but I have to give this one a two and this is why…read more.. This store is the closest one to our house, but we avoid it unless we have no choice. We usually drive to the one fifteen minutes away and for good reason. This is the board of health's dream spot. To be clear, I am talking about prepared food, the deli counter, fish, and meat. We've lost track of the amount of times that we watched an employee pause in what they were doing to touch their hair, pick something from their teeth, pick their nose, cough into their gloved hand, and wipe their nose on the back of their gloved hand before going back to serving customers. We've seen the hot food employees grab the trash, grab trash off the floor, use cleaner, etc. and then immediately touch the food. No hesitation, no stopping by the sink to wash their hands, and no wasting time. We've seen employees playing with trash, mop, sweep, etc. with gloves on, see a a customer, squirt hand sanitizer in their gloved-hands and clean the gloves with the hand sanitizer before touching the food. That's not how that works. Not at all. We've watched employees making sandwiches lean over and rest their chests on the actual sandwich, scratch their armpits with their gloved hands, sneeze into their gloved hands, wipe their noses into tissues with their gloves on, come out of the bathroom with gloves on, etc. We had one employee lick his gloved fingertips to open a bag, lick his fingers again, etc. When I pointed out that he might not want to do that, he told me that it was safe because he was wearing gloves. The last straw, and the thing that has been burned into my memory forever, was watching a deli worker pull his apron up, pull his waistband away from his body and reach down to aggressively scratch himself, shift his stance, scratch again, release the waistband so that it snapped back into place before allowing the apron to drop back into place as well, sniffed his gloved fingers, and then repeated back our order to us. We managed a horrified murmured, "We changed our minds," somehow confusing him before we made a run for it. Yes, we did talk to the manager about a few of these. I don't know if the employees here are not being shown basic training manuals or this is a hiring preference, but this is literally the only Publix store that we've ever encountered this at. Let me be clear, when we have to go here, we avoid anything the employees could have made, packaged, etc. And yes, I am a germaphobe and get grossed out easily, but I am pretty sure that anyone else would have issues with this.

The selection of imported drinks and frozen dumplings is awesome, and they do specials all the time if you buy enough groceries you get a free (I think it's like $50). They haven't been as popular lately cause of the newer Asian markets in town but I've been going here since I was a kid and it's an amazing place that deserves some love. Incredibly disappointed in the TLB. I've been a fan for a long time, especially their dry aged…read moremeats, and am more than willing to pay for this type of product. Today, though, I noticed them selling Japanese Wagyu as: Sake Infused Dry Aged A9 Kobe Strip. This is a very scammy way of selling a product. First, meat is graded broadly on three scales - USDA (choice, prime), BMS (beef marbling scale - common in Aus), and the Japanese grading scale. (A1-A5, with most high end steaks being A4 or the gold standard, A5). https://meatnbone.com/blogs/the-clever-cleaver/meat-beef-grading-system-understanding A9 doesn't exist. A BMS 9 could be an A5. But this is mislabeled. They have also used the term A11 in their instagram account. Maybe they are confusing BMS for A-scale, or maybe they are intentionally trying to make their product seem better than competitors. Furthermore, not all Japanese Wagyu is Kobe beef. Kobe beef refers to Tajima cattle raised in Hyogo Japan. The export of this beef is highly regulated to only certain restaurants and purveyors, who will display a seal and certificate certifying the origin of the beef. It is rare, expensive, and most importantly, Bush Brothers (Local Butcher's wholesale purveyor) is not certified to sell, nor do they use in any way, the term Kobe Beef. So it is incredibly likely that this product is mislabeled. This isn't illegal (Kobe beef doesn't have a TM in the US), but it is disingenuous. https://www.kobe-niku.jp/en/contents/certification/index.html https://instagram.com/bushbros Next, "sake infused"is incredibly confusing. Is it referring to the myth that Kobe cattle are massaged with sake? Is it referred to the use of koji (fermented cooked rice) which is often used as an aging accelerant? Or did they really take Japanese Wagyu and infuse (inject, soak?) with sake? And why on earth would you do that!? It would be like making sangria with a bottle of DRC. This product is likely a A5 strip loin (which Bush Bros. does carry) that has been aged. Market price would be somewhere around $175-185/lb. (An unaged cut would be around $150/lb.) When I asked for more information on the most expensive cut of meat in their shop, I was treated with disdain and a dismissive attitude. Neither member of the staff could answer my questions other than to say "It's the highest grade of Kobe beef." To charge $215 dollars for a grade that doesn't exist, for a steak that isn't from Kobe, with an aging method that seems dubious at best, is disingenuous and plays on a lack of consumer knowledge. If The Local Butcher themselves don't know the differences here, they shouldn't sell this product. If they do, they should be ashamed of themselves.
