What an amazing find while on a short excursion to Fort Collins. I can't say I've had much Australian food, but these hand pies were absolutely divine with flakey crusts and incredible filling. If you're a fan of savory, this will be your jam. We tried the Steak Cheese and Bacon, the Lamb Rosemary, and the Guinness Steak Mushroom pies along with a sausage roll, profiterole, and apple turnover. The pies are worth every bite. The meat is tender, juicy, and flavorful inside each pie. Seasoning was perfect. The pies were beautifully baked to perfection with just the right amount of butter. Of the three I tried the Lamb Rosemary was my favorite because the meat was sensational good with light hints of rosemary. The sausage roll and the profiterole were ok but nothing to write home about. Loved the apple turnover though! I would go for the pies and skip dessert next go around. But this is a place to repeat. The cool part is they also have pies you can buy to bake at home and they ship pies across the USA. The food is affordable and super satisfying. Seating is limited inside. They have one long table that could accommodate two groups. There's also bar stool seating along the window as well as a few outside tables. Has a modern vibe inside. Girl who took our order was very professional. This place is crazy clean down to the bathrooms. And you know I love a clean restaurant. Best of all the name...The Waltzing Kangaroo. I mean who wouldn't want to try a restaurant with such a fun name? The shopping center doesn't have a ton of parking but we lucked out and found a spot. I guess we were meant to eat here and we will absolutely repeat next time we are back up this way!

My spouse and I went to Waltzing Kangaroo a few days ago for the first time and it lived up to the hype. I got a veggie cheese pie. My spouse originally wanted something that was out and got a rosemary lamb pie instead. Both pies were GREAT! My spouse was concerned that the rosemary would be too much but it wasn't; I tried some of the lamb and it was so tender. My pie was excellent, too; the potatoes were soft, the gravy reminded me of chicken pot pie without the chicken. The crust was flaky and crispy, the flavors were great. I also got a chai latte which was good too and my spouse got a bottled rootbeer. Service was prompt and friendly. We definitely hope to be back.

I love their pies here! 2 months ago I got one of each of their pies to go, and they were so good that I forgot to take pics of them before devouring. This time, I just got the Beef Stroganoff and a latte before work. Very tasty, with a crust that's always flaky. Will have to come here more often to try their various recipes. Even though they serves savory pies, the place gives off a cafe feel. Just a bunch of stools with small 2 seated tables outside. The cashier was the barista, and she was very great.

I adore this place. I don't mean to jump the gun, but if I were a local, I'd come here often. The pastries are fantastic; I love the sausage roll. The pies were flakey and flavorful, sadly I only got to try one during my stay, but I hope to come back given the chance. But nonetheless the pie with the steak was nice and savory, which makes me want to try them all. I also got one of their profiteroles and it was the perfect and not overly sweet and airy. I tried a few bites, seeing how the pastries and pie filled me up, but when I finished it later, that dessert held its own. Anyways, I came on the wrong day, let me tell you that. Do not go when there is a big event such as a football game because you will exhaust yourself through parking finding. The parking isn't super small, but it isn't big either, some days can be way busier than others. The staff here were nice and helpful when telling me what the recent popular pies were, they do have new ones now and again. They also sell frozen ones you can bring home and enjoy when the time strikes.

Service was friendly Ambiance was ok the seating is a little weird, but happy that you have the option to sit - just don't stay long as the seats are super low except for the ones by the window Food idk I thought it was just ok ‍ but others might love it. I just enjoy very flavorful foods and these ones felt very mild in flavor. Just my personal opinion. the crust is the best part. Super buttery and flaky! Chicken and cheese was our least favorite. It tasted very plain. The least flavorful of them all. I'd skip this unless you want a very mild taste. Lamb and rosemary was my fave. Tons of flavor. Steak and pepper was good. Shepherd pie tasted like you'd expect. It was nice to try and I'd recommend people try it at least once, but for me personally I won't be craving to come back anytime soon.

This place is still serving warm, tasty pies! I love the vibe, too--some people are in for their regular cold pies (to go), others are grabbing hot pies (to go), and there's the little seating bar for those who want to eat a hot pie (right now). The chicken and broccoli was the flavor of the month, so I tried it out. It was awesome. Warm, savory, and stuffed with fillings, that flaky pastry was complemented perfectly. I also tried out the apple turnover. It was great--sweet but not overly so, it also carried a wholesome feel. I guess that's because the Kangaroo makes everything fresh in-house. So good.

My work from home lunch - the last of my frozen WK pies and some farm share veg ... gotta go back soon to restock the freezer!

The Waltzing Kangaroo is definitely one of those local spots I really hope to see make it through the pandemic - their quiches are the best I have ever had and their savory Australian pies are a lunchtime favorite of mine. I'm happy to say that I'm pretty confident that they will survive based upon some shrewd business decisions they have made. Let's start with how they handled the early days of the pandemic -- they closed. For 2 months. When they reopened, they had installed plexiglass barriers between the server and patron, and were open for very limited hours. They are open more regular hours now, but have installed freezers for grab & go frozen pies, and have developed an online business to ship frozen pies across the US. I love how they have turned the disruptive early days of COVID-19 into a business opportunity that will continue to pay dividends long after we are on the other side of the regular lockdowns and shifting public health policies. It's great being able to stock my freezer with their pies, which I tend to do when their "pie of the month" is a particular fave. I just had my last turkey cranberry brie - November's pie of the month - for lunch, and then swung by after work to pick up some green chile pork (January) and Thai green curry chicken (February) pies to stock the freezer back up. They are a business I do not think twice about supporting, since their no-drama response to the COVID-19 challenges gives me confidence that they are minimizing transmission risks. I do miss the "normal times," when they had a few other things on the menu (quiche! mashed sweet potatoes!) and there was time to linger over a perfectly pulled flat white, but we'll get there in the not-too-distant future and I'm sure Waltzing Kangaroo will still be with us.

When out of town, I am a real pain and insist on dining only at places I cannot normally patronize (that means no chains EVER), and hopefully with a style of food not available in my hometown. Searching for a quick lunch in Fort Collins and seeing Australian food, I immediately set my heart on Waltzing Kangaroo 'cause Australian food isn't all that common. The shopping center in which WK is located is kind of wonky, with one way entrances and exits, and limited parking. We ended up passing it, driving around the block, and almost missing it a second time. Whew! Just be on alert! We entered to a bit of a line, but it moved so fast because everything is truly ready! It is all under heat lamps, but still fresh, and the longest part of the process was customers making their decision. I think, as of late, WK may have limited their selections a smidge, but we had about six or so choices of pies (they have standards and a monthly special ($8 each or less), plus sausage rolls ($4.60) , and sides (mushy peas, mashed potatoes, gravy $3.50 or less). There were also profiteroles, and a variety of coffee-based beverages, tea, hot chocolate, and soft drinks. Currently, no seating inside, but they did have a couple bistro tables out front. The meat pies are lovely: buttery and flaky and so rich! I could not finish my veg and cheese. On the other hand, my husband downed both the beef stroganoff pie and most of a sausage roll (with a loose ground sausage filling, not cased). We were on the go, and the pie is so solid it was surprisingly easy to eat in the car, though you will drop flakes of crust all over. #worthit Now, Imma just be real with you. As good as the pies were (and they were really, really good), I could take 'em or leave 'em compared with the MUSHY PEAS! I had considered a double order, and then when I opened my box, found the serving so large I was glad I didn't go through with that...but then I munched them all up and would have easily consumed a lunch of peas alone! They are so creamy, not too smooth with a pleasing texture, and this sort of meaty/super savory flavor. I have tried to replicate them at home, but to no avail. Waltzing Kangaroo, if you are reading this, please share the recipe so I can go on living happily. Fort Collins had many good-looking options, but I am so happy we went with Waltzing Kangaroo. If I have the chance, I will absolutely return. Oh! And they sell their wares frozen, and they can even be shipped!

I LOVE THIS PLACE. When I went to Australia to visit a friend in Melbourne, all we had were meat pies and I about died when I found out this place existed. I had steak and mushroom and it was perfect. Not to salty, but rich and filling. A little surprised on the price because Australia was actually cheaper haha but I will go back! read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Fort Collins! You can tell they take pride in the quality of their food. Be sure to try the classic Steak and Gravy pie, spinach and feta rolls, and any of the desserts. They also have a meal option called the Tucker Box for only $10 that gets you a pie or roll and two sides (mushy peas, sweet potato mash, or mashed potatoes). It is always more than enough to fill me up. The food is always fresh and made from scratch. I've found you really cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. If you haven't been there yet, change that! read more

Waltzing Kangaroo made a great dinner choice! We ordered two Tucker boxes with pies and two sides each. Mashed potatoes were amazing and the mushy peas were great - and I don't even like peas! Even the hot cocoa was special, definitely not a powdered mix from the back. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the helpful staff! We will come back next time we're in Fort Collins! read more

My only prior experience with Australian meat pies was from the home-cooking of a friend who grew up in Australia, so I was not expecting much nor had a lot of prior experience. This place is fantastic. It is a new-ish restaurant (around a year or so) but already I am planning to make it one of my weekend regulars. The interior is very clean and well decorated, the staff are very kind and helpful and the price for a full meal is something you can't beat. My personal recommendation would be to get the Guinness Steak and Mushroom pie, with sweet potato mash and green peas for the sides. Especially on a cold/wet day, this combo is fantastic. This restaurant deserves your patronage and I only hope that they will start selling hand-held meat pies at street fairs and other such events. read more

We love coming to the Waltzing Kangaroo for a quick and inexpensive lunch or dinner (or even breakfast, because, why the heck not?) I usually go for the seasonal hand pie or the chicken and Thai peanut sauce, but I have yet to have any that I didn't like. Get the tucker box (pie with two sides) and get the mashed potatoes and mushy peas - seriously AMAZING! We're so happy to have Waltzing Kangaroo in West Campus. read more

Outstanding service and food. I had to keep reminding myself that I didn't have to try everything tonight. I got the chicken/bacon/avocado and my fiancee got the lamb/rosemary with a mini chicken in mornay sauce to share. I'm not a big fan of rosemary, but I liked what I tried of his. The chicken pies were beyond good. I left my glasses in the car and walked around the side of the counter to read the soda selection. One of the staff offered to read them off if I couldn't see them. More food than both of us can eat tonight for $24. With so many good things and options I didn't get to try tonight, we will be back for sure. read more

Love the chicken and Thai peanut sauce pie. So good! There's something to be said about this place -- the service is outstanding, the coffee is amazing (have a long black -- roughly same thing as an Americano, but the flavor of this espresso-based coffee is fantastic), and best of all it really is authentic. Wonderful food. Came here when an Australian scientist came to visit my group, and not only did we love it, but he did too. The prices are very reasonable, the food is perfectly portioned, and the flavor is on point. Have also had some of their (adorable-looking) desserts, and find them to be quite delicious as well! As a grad student, to find somewhere able to marry excellent taste, with excellent prices, is a GEM in the rough. Will come back again! read more

This is what I would call comfort food Aussie style. The personal size meat pies have a thick hearty crust that is done to a perfect consistency. I had the Guinness steak & mushroom. Yummy. You can really taste the care they put into making their pies. The ingredients inside taste high quality and the crust is always perfect and crispy. I only wish I had known the pie I got was spicy (I'm not sure if it was indicated at the store because I didn't pick it up myself). I'm so glad the owners decided to move to Fort Collins! I. Love. This. Place. My family loves this place. We've been here about four times since my initial visit/review, and everything we've had has been delicious. The flaky crust and the meat fillings and the mashed potatoes or mushy peas on the side make for the ultimate, comfort-food meal. A nice Australian Cafe that just opened in Fort Collins. We had to go and try and it was amazing! They were slammed for their opening weekend but when we got to the counter the employees were friendly, smiling and willing to help recommend or just chat really quickly. It's rare to find people that can hold up under so much pressure and still be that friendly! We were blown away! The interior decoration is simple, yet I found myself loving it for that reason. It has a theme, it sticks to it without being overdone, and it feels warm and friendly to go inside. We tried the Lamb & Rosemary, Thai Green Curry, and Steak & Gravy and we ate every bite. Everything is made fresh and hot and the flavors are delicious. I could eat here every day. The amount of food you get for the price is just right, you can feel full off one pie, but if you're hungry go for two! We also tried the Sausage roll and the blend of seasoning inside is mouth watering! I can't recommend their coffee blend enough, we had the Flat Whites and wow it's the best cup of coffee I've had in a long time. The Salted Caramel Bar was to die for, sweet, savory and a dark chocolate on top to add a touch of bitter makes it perfect. If you're on the fence for some reason about trying this place, jump on in with both feet! They do have vegetarian options as well if that's your thing. If I had to give a Con it would be that it is in a shopping center where parking can be a pain. But the food makes up for any parking woes. Nevermind subway's proccessed meats. Waltz into the Kangaroo and get a 100% fresh meat pie! read more

This place is amazing! So many meat pies to choose from, as well as sweets! I've had the Lamb and Rosemary pie, which was super flavorful, and also had the Egg Custard pie which was absolutely delicious and not too sweet. Also had a sample of their salted caramel bar...SO GOOD!!! And EVERYTHING is homemade!! There's also a great coffee menu which I didn't try, but it looks very good and has a perfect selection of drinks and lattes. Will definitely be back on the next trip to Fort Collins! read more

I walked by this morning to go to a different coffee shop, and I stumbled upon this place. I got a roasted vegetable quiche (not because I am vegetarian but because it looked divine). Whew. This is easily the best quiche I have ever eaten (and I eat a lot of quiche). The inside was creamy, and the seasoning was perfect (not to salty, and it packed many layers of flavor). I'll definitely be returning soon for the meat pies for lunch/dinner. If this place gets WiFi, it would get dangerous for people like me. I'd likely spend my entire paycheck there. If you haven't checked it out, I recommend it highly. I've already texted a coworker to tell her to stop there. ;) read more

For a small, casual restaurant, this is definitely tops. I came here seeking mashed potatoes, which were delicious. I added a rich, dark brown, vegetarian gravy, which was totally yummy. I am vegetarian, so chose one of the two vegetarian pies; Thai peanut and vegetable. There are many types of peanut sauce, and the Waltzing Kangaroo mailed the flavor. Everything is made in- house, from the pie crust to tie desserts. Speaking of which... Never have I seen such a beautiful apple turnover!! I actually got the profiterole and a custard tart. While small, there is obviously so much love invested in this restaurant. It works. The service is friendly and very courteous the restaurant is as clean as a whistle, and the prices are reasonable.I can't wait to go back, and I wish this place much success. I'm from South Africa, I have high standards for meat pies, these were epic! Fresh ingredients, great combinations and classics. Perfect pasty, and the desserts epic too. I absolutely adore the Waltzing Kangaroo, for everything they have to offer! Their meat pies, side dishes, dessert options and coffee drinks are one of a kind, I've never been to a place that comes close to the kind of quality the Kangaroo has. My favorite meat pie is the Chicken Thai Peanut, or possibly the Lamb and Rosemary with sweet potato mash on the side. They've got a delicious fruit tart that is glazed to perfection, and tons of other sweet options. I mozy over every morning for a mocha or a flat white made by their friendly and sweet employees, plus they've got breakfast quiches and little rolls making a perfect sized early meal. The Waltzing Kangaroo changed my whole schedule, I tend to go their daily for at least one of their many choices, I plan all my lunch dates here, and can even enjoy a beer or soda pop if I've already had coffee. Undoubtedly delicious, hand made in house food, unique options and a fantastic staff, it goes without any extra description that Waltzing is my favorite place to be and the most delicious in Fort Collins. Established in 2016.

We are passionate about handcrafting and serving Australia's most iconic dish, the meat pie. In our bakery on Australia's New South Wales Central Coast, we created and perfected dozens of varieties of gourmet pies over the years; meat pies, vegetable pies and dessert pies. While our business thrived, we still dreamt of coming to America to handcraft our pies and to share the goodness of Australian artisan baking. Our dream came true and, after months of searching from coast to coast, and north to south, we're here. We first visited Fort Collins on a cold and rainy Monday, and in spite of the weather, we knew we'd found our new home. We invite you to share the passion for our food!

I have to say that I was glad to have asked for mild/medium spice - it was right at the edge but not over my tolerance level. If there was a reason not to share combos it would be because we'd fight over the momos - it was a good thing we had 2 orders. Both dals were tasty, but I think I will stick with dal makhani in the future. I wish I could remember which curry I had because it was unlike anything I've tried before and delicious. The gulab jamun was the best I've ever had - completely soaked through with the syrup giving it the most delightful texture. My lunch buddy likened it to homemade. The details: I grew up in Australia, and meat pies in Australia tend to be very hit-or-miss, and more miss than hit. They were often bland and soggy. So when Waltzing Kangaroo offered a taste of my childhood right in my neighborhood, I was excited but skeptical. I can honestly say these are better and more creative than any meat pie I had back in Australia. The crusts are flaky, crisp and buttery. I have only tried one filling (the Thai curry) but it was creamy, flavorful and well-spiced. I also shared a small fruit tart with my son, and it was perfect. With all those great meat pies, there is no reason to try the sausage roll, so skip it. It's not terrible but the meat pies are far better. Awesome food! I'm a huge fan of meat pies, and I typically make them myself at home, but a friend turned me on to this place, and I'm glad he did! They have really good gravy, their meat and veggies have great consistency, and the CRUST IS AMAZING! Some people may complain because the food isn't "Australian/British enough", but I couldn't care less. It's close, and the pies are really really good, which is good because that's the focus of the restaurant. I didn't have any of their sweet stuff, but the pastries looked pretty good too.
