"No other place around the place, [so] I reckon this must be the place, I reckon." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fumzeriEAZM

An eye-catching north Bishop, CA, casino/filling-station complex on U.S. 395, the gas-price tower first drew me to its pumps. However, the electronic billboard for the casino, especially as it ballyhooed Friday-Saturday prime rib dinners, failed to goad me inside because it was never either of those days. With spare time both ways of a recent SoCal-to-Reno round trip (on consecutive Mondays), it was opportune to finally explore the former Paiute Palace Casino, now named Wanaaha, and it gradually achieved go-to casino status. It's attractive inside, moderately illuminated, and you don't get hit by a wall of smoke on entering. Smoking is allowed "only in the dedicated areas," says the casinos.us website. I found no such areas, and didn't ask. Wanaaha has some table games at the center floor, but these days I prefer penny slots in casinos, and ask only that the displays, game sound and control-button lamps be in good order, and that the cabinets are clean. Check, check, check and check. No ashtrays sitting on the control panels. This place is REALLY clean! I'd have no reservations (just *had* to do that) about trying any of the dining options, and plan to do so next time. On the northbound visit I browsed in the gift shop and chose an $8 (no tax) engraved-logo, weighted-bottom shot glass. On the flip-flop I became an Arrow Club member (bronze level), received slot-play credits for $10 and $5, and cashed out $10.20 (on IGT's "Kitty Glitter") when the combined ducats hit zero. Had this city slicker held a valid hunting or fishing license, coulda snagged me another $10 in free play. When in search of competitively priced gas, some grub, and/or diversion at a handy stopover, "Being as there's no other place around the place, I reckon [Wanaaha] must be the place, I reckon."--Curly Howard

10/10 everything in this photo.

I decided to leave Reno at 3am when there were no restaurants open for breakfast for the next 4 hours until I got to Bishop, with that said I pulled over to use the restroom without realizing there was a casino there with a full dinner and everything, I was in heaven with fresh ingredients and a calm relaxed atmosphere. I didn't play any at the casino but it was one of the best basic American breakfasts I've ever had in my 35 years of life. So if you can, TRY THE BREAKFAST!!

Yo.. don't let this line casino fool you, the food in this place at the Wanaaha Lounge is literally the best bang for your buck. The meal I had was GREAT and even the veggies were cooked better than some other steak houses I've been to. Veggies here were cooked to perfection and seasoned well compared to the bland mushy things I've had at other places. Steak was cooked good and seasoned well and the loaded baked potato was perfection. I come to bishop/mammoth a lot to camp (like almost every month) and this will be a new stop for us. Best of all, you can't beat the price.

Great food, Great service, wonderful menu choices throughout the day. Beautiful restaurant and bar. So many TV choices while hanging in the lounge while enjoying a nice cocktails and appetizers. Will definitely stop back for food and service. Maybe play a few slot games and even table games. And did you know they have many different promotions for playing. Also get that free $lot play!

Stopped by on my way home from Mammoth for a filet mignon steak. It was very good and tender, medium rare not that pink but good enough. The veggies were a bit soft and overcooked. My friend had chicken parmesan and enjoyed it. Large portion and good value for the price. It gets pretty busy after 5:00 p.m.

This review is mostly for the restaurant. Let me just tell you, the food was amazing! My family was speechless about how delicious our food was. Husband order the special which include ribeye steak, shrimp wrap in bacon ( he love the bacon), my son order the New York steak with smash potatoes and veggies, my other son order an American hamburger and I order the shrimp pasta. Definitely will be back here if in town. By the way, our waitress was very nice and polite.

Stopped here for a drink and a smoke on a roadtrip. Bar was very clean, and they have an indoors area to smoke. The barback explained to me, that the smoking area is in the darkside of the casino, they call it. The entire casino was very clean, well kept.

It's food! It's 1 step above McDonald's and the quality is questionable, not consistent portions

But when you go upstairs, you can't hear the bowling alley noise, good insulation/sound proofing. My wife and I were in town for a trip and we showed up without a reservation and were about to get a table. We shared a couple items including their escargot and their duck confit. We've both had them in France, and what we had was pretty tasty. The escargot tasted pretty fresh and went really well with bread. I'd try this place again, next time I'm in town.

This was particularly true of the 25/26 season, and I found myself there in what was likely one of the last powder days of the season. I stayed in the Mammoth Creek Inn, a short walk away from Mammoth Bowl, but this is not the first time I've been there. Mammoth Rock Brasserie is somewhat hidden as it exists above a bowling alley, but it is undeniably one of the rare gems in Mammoth Lakes. I walked in at about 5:30pm without a reservation on a Saturday, and everything was great. I got seated quickly near the window with a great view, and was given the rundown of the specials of the day, which I'll be grading individually. - Hamachi Special "Hamachi Crudo" (5/5) - done to absolute perfection, the choice of sauces and a small amount of ginger and seaweed salad made for a perfect tasing experience. The sashimi is fresh of course, but what sauces you pair with it matters - and Brasserie did it perfectly - Seabass special "Loup de Mer au Beurre Blanc" (5/5) - done to perfection! The skin was perfectly crispy, and the fillet done amazingly well and combined with the Beurre Blanc made for an incredible pairing. The mashed potato side and asparagus was also great, although I wasn't really a fan of the root vegetables. There was also the complementary bread and salted butter which were a great way to start. The bread I believe comes from Shea Schat's bakery in the same town. Overall everything was amazing, and you're overlooking some of the best views of Mammoth Lake's mountain range. It's difficult to not recommend the experience, except maybe it being a somewhat pricey fine dining experience, but I think everyone should try it at least once!
