My husband and I were blown away with this unique and memorable dining experience at Warung RieRie! It's like being transported to Bali in the middle of SD! We savored every delicious bite. Thank you Chef Rie and Dave for an amazing dinner!

Thank you Dave and Rie, for bringing your unique dining concept to life! I felt like we could have spent all evening with you, enjoying Rie's cooking and sharing stories. You deliver the complete dining experience: amazing food + unique atmosphere + warm hospitality + stories behind Warung RieRie. Dave was more than happy to spend time showing us around his garden and was especially proud of his pepper collection. And offered some sage pepper eating advice, chew those extremely hot peppers thoroughly! What other restaurant will you see the chef harvesting peppers from the garden for dinner? We will be back!

If there was a way to give this place 10 stars, I would. The most intimate and delicious meal I've had in San Diego. The perfect setting for a small group of close friends. From the moment you walk through the door you are treated like family as you are escorted through the garden, where 80% of the produce you are served is grown and shown to the fire put where you wait the rest of the group. From there we were told the history of the restaurant and what inspired them to welcome complete strangers in to their home and share old family recipes. Everything we were served was to die for and that's coming from a person who doesn't like seafood but found themselves finishing everything I was served. Highly recommend you booking the next available dinner and be prepared to be happier than a 8 year old on Christmas morning when it's your turn to dine with them.

An extraordinary experience! Dining in an Indonesian hut with family and becoming part of the owners' family for the evening. Incredible hospitality and wonderful food. The couple who own the restaurant are so friendly and hospitable - explaining how the ingredients used in their dishes are mostly picked from their garden. It doesn't get fresher than that! The six course meal was delicious. This is a special occasion restaurant that is not inexpensive, but is worth every penny.

This was our first time at a warung, let alone a place where we were the only party in a beautiful structure that came from Indonesia! The husband greeted us and told us their story of how this came to be, and his wife was cooking each dish and came out at the end to chat with us. We were so impressed by the story and it's something you would need to come to hear and you will be awed. The food came out so beautifully plated. The cocktail we started with was tasty and they had a non-alcoholic drink for someone in our party. The appetizer was so delicious it came with peanut sauce that I have never tasted before, so good!! Then a soup with spring roll came out, the soup had so much flavor and pieces of tender meat that I don't think anyone can recreate. The fresh salad dish came rolled in cucumber with sesame dressing. Our final savory dish was a beef dish with coconut rice and the sauce it came with had different types of spice it was enjoyable to eat. The husband and wife were so attentive and so engaging it was a wonderful evening. The plants in the backyard were so special, we definitely paid not just for the food but also for the experience of feeling like we are in Bali, on vacation. Each dish was so tasty I wish I can come back soon!! I know it's hard to even get a reservation, but if you get a chance, it's worth it!!

We had such a magical experience. The ambiance was so gorgeous and looked like a Bali landscape. Chef RieRie and Dave are so welcoming and all the food was incredible. Reservation sizes are small for an intimate feel so it can be hard to get a reservation but it is definitely worth the wait. Able to do vegetarian if requested in advance - they are very accommodating.

Truly an amazing, unique experience with incredibly great service... oh, the food was pretty good too! There is only one table that seats up to 6 people. It is inside an authentic Balinese hut that was shipped and reassembled piece by piece, quite possibly the only one in North America. We were told 80% of the food served was grown in the garden that is right next to the hut. Unless you pick it off of the plant and put it into your mouth, it doesn't get any fresher. The meal includes a tour of said garden with a origin story of how the restaurant was conceived and came into being. We were served fresh rambutan with tropical drinks during the story telling. Such an interesting story. They change the menu every month (seasonal). This is gourmet cooking at its finest. Since you will likely get different food, I won't go into the details of each dish, but I enjoyed every last morsel of everything served, leaving every plate clean. There are many reasons why this is the toughest place in San Diego to get a reservation. In fact, reservations are by invitation only and the waiting list is a year long unless you are on the short list of people who get texted cancellations.

What an incredibly amazing and delicious adventure!!! We were so lucky to fall into this reservation for my sister's birthday and I'm so glad we did! This place is nothing short of magical! It's like a setting out of a storybook! From the wonderful service to all 5 courses served with the history of the Balinese people in a traditional lumbung all the way from Bali, this husband and wife run private restaurant nails it at every turn!!! Definitely treat yourself to a special night with Dave and RieRie if you can get a reservation!!!!

We can't get over the amazing experience that is Warung RieRie. It was an evening spent enjoying spectacular Indonesian food and incredible ambiance. The hosts are great people and we are grateful to have met them. There is nothing like it in San Diego or anywhere else my foodie excursions have taken me. Strong 5 stars in all areas and not a single disappointment. Tip: Keep an eye out for cancellations! If you really want to go then follow their instagram and call them when they post about open dates versus waiting to be contacted on the waiting list.

Warung RieRie is more than we expected. The entire dining experience was unique, welcoming and the food was unmatched. Dave was a wonderful host and makes you feel right at home. He and his wife, Chef Rie, have created a one-of-a-kind dining experience that nobody should pass on. Chef Rie puts a personalized touch on each course, adding fresh garnishments and greens from the couple's organic garden and topping with original sauces that beautifully and authentically add to the saporous taste of all the dishes. This is a MUST try for everyone. We will definitely be back and are excited to see what's on the menu next month!

Yes! It's included with the meal and unlimited. Dave usually makes a couple cocktails that are Bali style and serves them before and during the meal.

I had forgotten how ghost kitchens work, so I didn't order ahead of time. The nasi kuning was good, but there was way too much rice. The same goes for the ayam geprek. They also provided very little sambal, which was quite disappointing. I did enjoy the Teh Kotak, though. Overall, it's a good option if you're really hungry, but I wouldn't come here for the dining experience.

Did they change fish? Tasted the same basically. Still amazing as always. We also tried some new dishes: Beef Tartare Chicken Thigh Skewers Green Curry Mussels The Beef Tartare was just okay. It's the only dish I probably would not ever order again. It wasn't bad, but compared to every other banger on the menu, it's last. Something has to be last. The Chicken Thigh Skewers were AMAZING! OMG, so much flavor in the chicken but the sauce really drove it overboard. Wow. These are a must try, you won't regret it. And lastly, the Green Curry Mussels blew us away. I love mussels and always order it whenever I see it on a menu. We devoured all of the mussels (and added the $9 Roti) and even got a container to-go to save the broth, lol. Truly another banger from Dija Mara. I really appreciate that the menu changes periodically without removing the veteran dishes we continue to enjoy. Just want to mention something besides the culinary spectacles. Dija Mara's decor is every bit as memorable as its food. The artwork isn't an afterthought--it's part of the experience. The dining room manages to feel both trendy and intimate at the same time, while the graffiti-covered back wall adds a playful, street-art feel that contrasts beautifully with the polished food and cocktails. The result is a space that feels creative, unpretentious, and genuinely cool. The industrial concrete and reclaimed wood elements give it a modern edge, while the Indonesian-inspired art creates a sense of place that feels completely unique in North County. This is really our happy place and I hope it never changes.

The restaurant was fairly empty although Resy wouldn't take reservations. Plenty of bar seating. The service was fair, not particularly warm or engaging, which was fine. The food was alluring and beautiful, but the flavors were salty, flat, and mushy. Starting with the Paloma, it was nothing special. Just something you could get with a well happy hour special. Serviceable but unremarkable. Very Instagrammable, however. The pork belly was nicely charred and had nice bite sized morsels on the skewer, good texture, but the sauce was very salty, almost bitter. Forced myself to eat the 2nd skewer, but could not push through the last 2. In contradistinction, the beef rendang was almost bland, like a microwaveable peanut butter Hormel beef stew, and the cardinal sin - the rice underneath was mushy. That was what sealed the nail on the coffin. Bland, albeit tender short rib, on top of smushy rice. Dead. I barely ate one of the 2 pieces of ribs and couldn't do more. The staff wanted to see if I wanted a take out container. When you see a customer that disengaged with the food, you'd better be wary. Being Asian, I don't like to waste food, but when it's so not good, I'd rather walk away and get something else than to finish a terrible meal. Many diners have a millennia of choices in this price point. Sadly, not sure how this restaurant got recognition because it's half as delicious as your typical neighborhood Thai restaurant. Banana Leaf at the Original farmers market in LA is better, though humble and homely. Just very disappointing. Hope it was an off night and that others have a better experience.
