You need a reservation! We tried to come eat here on the first night and they had zero reservations so we made one for the next day. The food is amazing to say the least. Being on site of a mediocre hotel, I was a little skeptical. But as I walked in, I noticed it was quite nice with beautiful jazz music playing. The service was impeccable... it's a fairly small restaurant, but there were four food servers and two sushi chefs standing by on the outside, not even including the inside kitchen staff. The food is delicious as well. Especially the soft shell crab. They were out of one of the Japanese beers listed on the menu, but they had an alternate suggestion, which was equally good. This gem is located in The Breakers hotel past the pool in the back. It's small, but the atmosphere is perfect for a meaningful dinner with a loved one or friends. I've come here twice now, once in March to celebrate my wedding anniversary and this past Sunday with a group of friends from out of town. The restaurant was able to accommodate our party of ten. As I said the restaurant is small, both times I've been I never noticed any background music, which was great because we were able to have a conversation and a few of our friends are hard of hearing. Our server was very attentive and patient with our group. He kept us informed of any kitchen delays and was able to answer any questions we had for him. Overall, we enjoyed the ambiance and our meal, which we did pupu style ordering two of everything to share. We will definitely be back to this location! read more

Unfortunately they order is only 1 piece. As for the cooked food, their Wasabi No.1 Special (Crab Meat and Avocado with White Fish, Baked with Secret Sauce) was amazing and different. The Chicken Teriyaki was about the worst I've tried. Extremely gross. The service in the first trip was amazing, the second not so much. Soooooooooo amazing! By far this has been our favorite place which we have eaten while in Honolulu. You really have to know where it is located in order to find it. But once you do find it, you won't regret it. The establishment is very small. I would strongly suggest you make a reservation. Upon entering we were greeted and seated properly. Our server was incredibly attentive and the food came out in five minutes of ordering it. That is how fresh everything is! The dining experience is very quaint and if you were looking for a private secluded table, you will not find it here. You are literally 2 feet from the table next to you. However it is an enjoyable atmosphere and the food makes up for the lack of space. My wife has been to Japan several times and said that this was the closest to a Japanese sushi restaurant in the US as she has ever been to. The single non-gendered restroom is outside the restaurant. We parked at the Bank lot, but there are other parking garages if you're down to scout. We didn't realize we could validate, per another review. Bahumbug. The winners this night were the appetizers. We ordered the Wasabi #1 and the Baked Scallop Special. I loved it. These two alone are worth going back for, even every night. We ordered some sushi dishes as well, but as we were getting more and more full and were so enamored by our appetizers they weren't quite as memorable. The night ended up being just over $100 for two, with several drinks, and a full belly. Definitely affordable for a nice night out. This was one of my last meals in Hawaii and it was one of the best, if not the best. Every dish we ordered was amazing. I especially loved the sushi and sashimi. We got lucky and got a Bluefin Otoro with our Sushi Regular! The fish cuts are all super fresh. The Grilled Saba was another favorite of mine as well as the Eggplant Miso. The prices are not at all high for the quality of food. Sushi Regular (7pc sushi and 1 cut roll) is only $28. Sashimi Regular (5 kinds, 2pc each) is also only $28. The service here is also great! All the staff were super friendly and nice. We asked our server if we could order a side of sweet potato (they don't have it on the menu but it came with the Washugyu Ribeye and we really liked it lol). They don't usually do it but they gave us a side order of sweet potato for $1! The restaurant's exterior and interior itself is lovely. The restaurant isn't super big and the mood is more intimate. Great for more quieter/conversation type dinners. The restaurant is tucked inside The Breakers hotel. I would recommend making a reservation at least a day before. I think they stop taking walk-ins by 8:30pm. Overall, the only thing I'm sad about is not finding out about Wasabi Bistro earlier. Way better than Doraku Sushi, seriously come here instead especially if you love authentic Japanese food. You'll get better service, prices, and quality of food. We walked over from the Sheridan Waikiki. We had made a reservation to help us during post pandemic travels. He decided to order some assorted sushi and miso cod entree. One of the items was the Big Eye tuna at $10 per piece. It was incredible. The crab cut roll was also delicious. The real Stand out was the miso cod set which came with rice , salad and miso soup. While I'd like to keep this place a secret for selfish reasons, I have to give credit where credit is due. Absolute "must visit" place. Only open for dinner, the small and cozy restaurant is hidden inside what looks like a Asian style hotel. The walkway is clean and beautiful and the exterior of the restaurant reminded me of being in Japan where the shops blend in with the surroundings. Inside, it's just as clean and, unlike some sushi places, doesn't reek of fish. Made a reservation which I recommend as the place fills up fast. Ordered several dishes: too much really for two people but finished every last crumb because everything was too delicious to leave behind. Started off with Hamachi carpaccio. Pretty standard with other sushi restaurants and just as yummy. Where this place shines is in the rest of this night's orders: the baked scallops (hot appetizer and could have eaten this all night long and slightly different than other places as it is baked over rice), it's sushi salad (cold appetizer with tons of fresh and delicious sashimi), deep fried crab (surprisingly meaty as it has less flour which was awesome), and it's sushi boat (ordered a side of eel). For our first time at this restaurant, my favorite was the scallop bake. I was also blown away by the scallops. It was so fresh and delicious and to me the price is reasonable. The teriyaki chicken was also delicious and reminded me more of a soy sauce chicken, but it was a huge portion and we had leftovers.
