We found Oyster Hale by Crush while looking for a spot to grab some oysters after the hubby got his tattoo, and since we both LOVE oysters, this was the perfect way to celebrate. We chose to sit outside on the balcony, and I'm so glad we did. The atmosphere was great, and it gave us that relaxed Hawaii vibe we were looking for. The staff was also incredibly kind and attentive throughout our visit. Now let's get to the OYSTERS! We ordered two rounds, and they were fresh and delicious. But those SAUCES?! Listen! They didn't serve the typical cocktail sauce we're used to. Instead, the oysters came with lemon and a couple of different sauces that were FREAKING AMAZING. Whatever they're doing with those sauces, KEEP DOING IT! They took the oysters to another level. I also had the Chu-Hi Lychee, and OMG! So refreshing and so good. It was the perfect drink for sitting outside in Honolulu enjoying oysters. I would order that again without hesitation. For my meal, I had the Garlic Butter Shrimp with garlic, butter, sweet onion, and mixed greens. The hubby went with the Volcano Roll with spicy tuna, eel sauce, and spicy mayo, along with a draft Kirin Ichiban. Overall, this was such a great little Hawaii find. Great atmosphere, attentive service, fresh oysters, amazing sauces, and a Chu-Hi Lychee that I could definitely see myself coming back for. Would we return? Absolutely! It pains me to write this review because I've put it off for a while, hoping I'd feel differently with time. My partner and I are huge oyster lovers and eat them regularly - we've easily had hundreds over the years. This was our first time trying oysters in Hawaii, so we were really excited to stop here known for their oysters! Unfortunately, after tasting the oysters, my partner immediately felt something was off. He stopped eating them, checked the others, tried one more, and decided they didn't seem fresh to us. We can't say what caused it - it could have been an issue anywhere along the supply chain, they kept telling us they got them fresh this morning, but we didn't feel comfortable continuing to eat them. The most disappointing part wasn't the oysters themselves, it was how our concerns were handled. We let the staff know right away, hoping for some understanding or a solution, whether that meant offering another dish, or simply acknowledging our concerns and not allowing us to pay. Instead, we were told we'd still need to pay for them, and that was the end of the conversation. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. We paid our bill and left most of our meal untouched. We had ordered a dozen oysters but only ate three before deciding not to continue. We also ordered the oyster shooters, which we didn't end up eating. Instead, we headed upstairs to Genius Lounge, where we had a wonderful meal. It's a shame because we were prepared to eat down oysters too. It was disappointing to have our first oyster experience in Hawaii end this way, and it definitely put a damper on what we had hoped would be a memorable visit. I understand that issues with fresh seafood can happen, and I'm not trying to place blame for something that may have been outside the restaurant's control. I just wish the customer service had matched the situation. A little empathy and a willingness to make things right would have completely changed how we felt walking away. Trying to find a late night oyster bar? Oyster Hale would be the perfect fit! Located on the 2nd floor of a 3 story building. Entrance is off to the right side and up a flight of stairs. If you've ever watched "Tokyo Diner's" it gives the same vibes! Very intimate seating, definitely won't make you feel crowded. Quick service and the workers are very nice. We ended up stopping by after an AYCE pizza place. We were looking for someplace in Waikiki that wasn't too far from us and we happened to find this place on yelp. And we are so happy that we did! The buttered clams (nice big fresh tasting clams)dish a soup was amazingly good. They added grapes and strawberries slices which was really surprisingly good. The onions and garlic were sweet tasting and the broth was so ono. We also tried their 1/2 shelled oysters with 3 Japanese sauces which is quite tasty and fresh! Our first night in Waikiki was great. I picked out Oyster Hale by Crush as our first dinner as I wanted a non-touristy local spot that had a feeling of home and that's what you get here. As you enter you immediately see the seating bar and 3 tables. That's it. Highly recommend making reservations. The one thing this place is known for is their oyster shooters. We ordered both Uni and Caviar Oyster shooters. 3 each hit the spot as our first course. Next we ordered the fresh made ahi poke which was so tender the ahi melted in your mouth. Served with lettuce and sweet onions you could make this your main dish or share like we did. We then ordered the Diamond Head Roll which was fantastic and the uni and caviar on top is a great match and perfect complement to this roll. I asked which sake they would recommend that was sweet as most sake is not sweet like we think of but they pointed me to the Hana Peach Sake and wow it was fantastic. Tasted like a peach cooler of sorts with non of that high alcohol flavor. At 8% ABV you won't be getting a buzz so no worries there. I believe this is a husband wife duo and he is the only chef and she is the only server, dish washer, front of the house person. Not sure how I feel about this place? Nestled above another restaurant this place is very small with very limited seating. Plus the night we were there the AC wasn't working very well and is was very hot. Menu is also very small and very pricey of the 4 sushi roll options all are over $20+ and they have a version of a poke bowl and the same type of pricing. Beers are expensive and that is what is the question mark on me coming back. We ordered the uni oyster shooters, sake butter clams, Waikiki Roll and Diamond Head Roll. The raw oysters were fresh as could be and it was perfectly paired with the creaminess of the uni. However, all the sauces that they put in the shooter just detracted from the natural sweetness of the oyster. Oysters that fresh are best eaten plain without all the extras. The clams came out steaming hot with toasted bread for dipping. The broth was flavorful and went deliciously with the clams. The broth was so good that I wanted to drink it. Both sushi rolls were also fantastic. The Waikiki Roll is your salmon and cream cheese roll but better. It also contained crab and avocado. Uni shooters: I wanted to love this, but it was just too tart for me, it overtook all the other flavors. I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to be, but it's not for me. Assorted sashimi: Thick, creamy, how I like um. Mussels: Several didn't open, the ones that did were dry, that's a bummer. However, the garlic butter sauce with roasted tomatoes and grapes, we mopped that up with the warm bread.
